Masters of the Universe (2026) 450!!! Holy crap people!!! This is our 450th episode! and its about Masters of the Universe! Thats a whole lot of Podcasting… For this momentous milestone we are doing what we do best: diving headlong in and compounding some Elements of Awesome into something great: this is us mixing in a half tonne of “‘80s nostalgia” a few cups of “sweet ass toy-line”and then filtering it through the lens of “Summer blockbuster movie” with just a dash of “music by Queen”! We are heading to Eternia and checking out The Masters of The Universe movie from director Travis Knight! (We keep it spoiler free for the first half) Join us as we find out: Is this tentpole He-Man based action-adventure film juiced up with The Power of Grayskull or has it been brought low by the evil forces of Skeletor (or Jared Leto in this case)? Dion, Quinny and Jill are all arguing over what their Masters of the Universe name should be, mostly because nobody wants “Rim-job” or “Felch-or”. Synopsis After being separated for 15 years, the Sword of Power leads Prince Adam (Nicholas Galitzine) back to Eternia, where he discovers his home shattered under the fiendish rule of Skeletor (Jared Leto). To save his family and his world, Adam must join forces with his closest allies, Teela (Camila Mendes) and Duncan/Man-At-Arms (Idris Elba), and embrace his true destiny as He-Man — the most powerful man in the universe. https://youtu.be/4kmireaj30c A huge shout-out to the heroic warriors (and the evil forces of Skeletor) who join in with our moderated live-chat during the Twitch stream, each Tuesday night at 7:30pm AEST. Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) has taken the rocket powered leap from the small screen to the big screen and he's brought his little green pal, baby Yod…. Ahem.. sorry… Grogu with him. It's been 7 long years since Star Wars was in cinemas last, so here we are, finding out if this latest offering is worthy of being in “the movies” or if it's actually just five TV show episodes in a trenchcoat. In this podcast you will find out if… this is the way. Or if it's more “wrong way, go back”. Fire up the hyperdrive with New Republic Commander Jill, badass bounty hunter Dion and Underground-Fight-Club Hutt gladiator Quinny. I have spoken. Synopsis: The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu. https://youtu.be/MA2cRCQb_ow A huge shout-out to the bounty hunters and Rebel Scum who join in with our moderated live-chat during the Twitch stream, each Tuesday night at 7:30pm AEST. Remarkably Bright Creatures This week's pick isn't a loud franchise sequel or a cinematic universe tentpole. Instead, it drifts in on quieter currents. Remarkably Bright Creatures began life as a much‑loved novel, the kind that lives on bedside tables, book clubs, and “you should really read this” conversations. Its screen adaptation arrives via Netflix. It leans into reflective storytelling rather than spectacle. At its heart is a gently unfolding story about unlikely connections, emotional repair, and the strange ways people – and creatures, help each other survive. It's the sort of film that invites thoughtful discussion rather than demands instant hot takes… which makes it incredibly dangerous for one of our podcasts. On review duty this episode are Jill, Dion, and Quinny: One of them is a secret cephalopod and you’ll never guess who…. https://youtu.be/lmp9LLXrAGY A huge shout-out to the sexy cephalopods from all the seas and oceans who join in with our moderated live-chat during the Twitch stream, each Tuesday night at 7:30pm AEST. And especially to those who have decided to be to be generous to us stupid humans and drop your underwater booty into our aquarium. Thanks for supporting us directly via our Ko-Fi jar and now also by subscribing on Twitch! You are all our octopus teachers… If you like what we do, drop us a sub! Mortal Kombat 2 It’s been 5 years since the last Mortal Kombat film was almost apologetically released onto our screens in a mid-covid streaming-first market. It was a moderate success at the time and folks were generally taken with the humour, the action beats and the relatively lore-accurate storyline. They were less interested in the new lead character Cole, who had never appeared in any MK story up to that point and whose main power seemed to be getting the seven shades of shit kicked out of him. Director Simon McQuoid has taken his licks on that one and has made the smart decision to follow up on that first story with a very different focus, and a lot of improvements. Mortal Kombat: Annihilation sits at the very top of the pile of worst sequels, and most crushing disappointments ever. Lets hope that this sequel doesn’t need the same tag line “Destroy your expectations”. It’s a 1 vs 1 match tonight with Dion in the red corner, and Quinny in the other colour non-descript corner (he can’t tell he’s colourblind!) we can only assume Peta and Jill are having their own knock-down drag-out fight in some other arena! Synopsis Johnny Cage joins other fighters in the ultimate, no-holds-barred battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn, a powerful tyrant who threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders. https://youtu.be/TaiIWS05TCw A huge shout-out to the Kombatants from all realms who join in with our moderated live-chat during the Twitch stream, each Tuesday night at 7:30pm AEST. And especially to those who have decided to be to be super lovely, generous humans and drop your Kombat Koins into our Koffers! Thanks for supporting us directly via our Ko-Fi jar and now also by subscribing on Twitch! You ALL are EXCELLENT, whether you’re working for the forces of Outworld, or some other powerful interdimensional faction… If you like what we do, drop us a sub- zero! Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord Star Wars has become an increasingly Televisual universe and who would have thought so many years ago, that animation would actually give us some of the most epic and anticipated match-ups the fandom has ever wanted. Maul: Shadow Lord is the latest animated offering from Lucasfilm this time exploring a part of the history we know very little about. And the machinations of one of the coolest and most intimidating villains: Dryden Vos. Also Maul is in there too jumping around and being all mopey and shit. Will this show align into a unified Solo inclusive Timeline? will anyone care? GONK! Synopsis Set shortly after the Clone Wars, we follow the former Sith Lord as he rebuilds his criminal syndicate, Crimson Dawn, during the early reign of the Empire. Based on a Force vision, Maul targets the underworld, confronts Inquisitors, and seeks to corrupt a disillusioned Twi’lek Jedi Padawan, Devon Izara, to be his new apprentice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zjw8vciJgKY A huge shout-out to the Sith lords and ladies who join in with our moderated live-chat during the Twitch stream, each Tuesday night at 7:30pm AEST. Deadloch Season 2 Instead of a return to the sleepy seaside Tasmanian village of Deadloch, Season 2 of the hit show takes us right up the top end! With a cast of wonderfully weird characters, both new and old, crocodiles, bogans, dismemberment and a million creative ways to say “it’s fuckin hot“, Deadloch proves that “The Kates” are a creative force to be reckoned with. Who would have thought that chaos lesbian cop dramedy would be right at top of the “most anticipated” list for 2026!? The whole team is in for this review and be aware it is VERY VERY full of swearing…. moreso than usual! That means a lot of the C-Bomb! You have been warned! Project Hail Mary Dion and Jill are the two team members who had braved the big dark scary abyss of space for our review of Project Hail Mary, so this one is very much a spoiler free look at the film and a whole bunch of “why you should definitely go see it!” Project Hail Mary is the new film based on the book of the same name by Andy Weir; the author of the other wildly popular space science romp, The Martian. In this new film Ryan Gosling is our resident space smart-guy (this Ken does Space) and the scale of the drama is galactically large! We also talk a bit about what else we have been watching including: Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die, Peaky Blinders: the Immortal Man the Firefly animated reboot And a bunch of other stuff too! We hope you enjoy it! Synopsis Ryland Grace, a middle-school science teacher who wakes up on a spaceship with amnesia to discover he is on a last-chance, one-way mission to save humanity. War Machine Join us for your government mandated propaganda film featuring giant robots and US Ranger training procedures aplenty. It’s War Machine on Netflix, not to be confused with War Machine (2017) on Netflix… (or War Machine, not on Netflix) in THIS ONE… During the final stage of US Army Ranger selection, an elite team‘s training exercise turns into a fight for survival against an unimaginable threat. It’s propaganda, make no mistake about that folks. it’s flag waving jingoistic, “Hoo-Rah America saves the world” propaganda, but with its blend of Predator and Metal Gear, and a hint of Aliens…is it actually any good? Dion is our drill sergeant, Jill and Peta are the New recruits and Quinny is walking down washout lane… Synopsis Alan Ritchson is a soldier in a elite Ranger unit whose training exercise becomes a fight for survival when they encounter a deadly, giant alien robot. https://youtu.be/VVw5p_TFXgY A huge thank you to all grunts and jarheads who illegally tune in to this frequency to listen to each episode of the show while they prepare their next deployment into the theatre of war… or something. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms HBO and George R.R. Martin aren't done with us yet. We're heading back to Westeros to follow a new kind of story. Gone are the multi-generational tales of Kings, Queens, Empires and Dragons; this time we're focusing on a single Hedgeknight and the little boy who wants to be his squire. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms adapts the first of the novellas that introduced these characters, and is a different direction for the whole Game of Thrones Behemoth. In this episode Dion is our Hedgeknight dujour, and Jill and Peta both show no interest at all of being his squire. Quinny is in a character entirely different book series. Synopsis A century before the events of "Game of Thrones," two unlikely heroes wander Westeros. In an adaption of George R. R. Martin's novella "The Hedge Knight," a young and naive but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg, face a series of dangerous exploits. https://youtu.be/1qQtCQvvOpc As always, an chivalrous thank-you to all you Hedge-knights and hedge-days join in with the conversation on the Twitch stream, live each Tuesday night at 7:30pm AEDT. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms HBO and George R.R. Martin aren’t done with us yet. We’re heading back to Westeros to follow a new kind of story. Gone are the multi-generational tales of Kings, Queens, Empires and Dragons; this time we’re focusing on a single Hedgeknight and the little boy who wants to be his squire. Synopsis A century before the events of “Game of Thrones,” two unlikely heroes wander Westeros. In an adaption of George R. R. Martin’s novella “The Hedge Knight,” a young and naive but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg, face a series of dangerous exploits. https://youtu.be/1qQtCQvvOpc As always, an chivalrous thank-you to all you Hedge-knights and hedge-days join in with the conversation on the Twitch stream, live each Tuesday night at 7:30pm AEDT. And an especially huge thanks to any of you secret bald princes with royally large treasuries who are kind enough to support us by casting a tip into our jar via Ko-Fi, or subscribing on twitch… every bit helps us to keep the electricity running. it’s the only thing keeping us alive. Wonder Man In this episode we are getting our thesp on and flexing our character actor muscles with the latest slightly rehearsed and barely directed dramatic reading from the beloved theatrical powerhouse that is Marvel Studios. Wonder Man (which is in no way connected to Wonder Woman) takes a sharp left turn in style and attitude from the usual Marvel fare. We follow two actors, desperate to get the role of a lifetime in a world where not only is superhero fatigue a real thing, but it's also legally controlled; especially on film sets. Will this super powered Simon get his role that he has been building an entire career to achieve or will Trevor get 25 to life for his history? Three of the team, Quinny, Peta and Dion are in this improv group and they are "Yes, and" ing as hard as possible. Synopsis Small-time actor Simon Williams struggles to reckon with his personal life while hiding his super-powers as he tries to land his dream role. Meanwhile, a shady government agent leverages a new friendship in order to save his own job. https://youtu.be/I04EsGHOSr4 A huge thank you to all the ex-terrorist actors and wet behind the ears thesps who listen avidly to each episode of the show while they should be learning their lines... But also thank you, to those Agents and Damage Controllers who join in on the live-chat during the Twitch stream this week, and every week! If you haven't done so before join us next week for our live show! Special love and thanks goes to those who have financially bolstered this podcast via dropping some their hard earnt winnings into our Ko-Fi cup and now also by subscribing on Twitch! Send Help We love Sam Raimi, whether he's making the best Spider-man Movies, the best Dr Strange Movies, or the best damn Evil Dead Movies ever! Well now he's turning his talents to a new story, something a little different from anything we have seen from him before. In Send Help, Rachel McAdams and Dylan O'Brien are co-workers stranded on a deserted island after a horrific plane crash. Things do not go well for either. Dion, Quinny and Jill are stranded on this desert island podcast, and as usual Jill is the one voted most likely to survive. Synopsis A woman and her overbearing boss become stranded on a deserted island after a plane crash. They must overcome past grievances and work together to survive, but ultimately, it's a battle of wills and wits to make it out alive. https://youtu.be/GKzHoh9EQ3o A huge thank you to all the Corporate elites and their pathetic lapdogs who listen to each episode of the show while they prepare their next corporate merger... Wicked: For Good Is this, the second Act (don’t call it a sequel!) to Wicked (the smash hit musical of last year), a magical tour de force, or a misanthropical tour de farce? Does the film version of everything post intermission overcome some of the inherent issues of the stage show and elevate the material to defy gravity? Or is it all a sham waiting to be doused in water and melt away to nothing? We are here to check out if this Ozian festivating is 100% ozmapolitan or confusifying and disgustificating! It’s Wizardly Dion, Jill the good, and Quinny the cowardly lion with special guest Ardella (of Kansas)! Synopsis: Now demonized as the Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba lives in exile in the Ozian forest, while Glinda resides at the palace in Emerald City, reveling in the perks of fame and popularity. As an angry mob rises against the Wicked Witch, she’ll need to reunite with Glinda to transform herself, and all of Oz, for good. https://youtu.be/c-YXiY0fqoU A huge thank you to all our Flying monkeys, cowardly lions, and wannabe witches who listen avidly to each edition of the show (whilst probably singing along), especially those of you joining in on the live-chat during the Twitch stream this week (and every week!). The Running Man and The Long Walk In the late 70’s Stephen King was still a ways away from being a household name; he had released Carrie, Salem’s Lot and The Shining and his star was certainly on the rise… but he wanted more. That “more” came in the form of a pen-name that would allow him to try different ways of telling stories: Richard Bachman. Under this name he wrote 4 novels from 1977 to 1982 before his ruse was discovered. This podcast we are reviewing the adaptations of two of those books; The Long Walk from 1979 and The Running Man from 1982. This is the second attempt at an adaptation of The Running Man and this one contains almost 98% less Arnold Schwarzenegger. Are they trudging to the finish line or do they barrel along at a breakneck pace? Join in with Dion, Jill and Quinny for their rambling and occasionally sprinting thoughts on these two thematically similar but structurally opposite films. Synopsis – The Running Man In the near future, “The Running Man” is the top-rated show on television, a deadly competition where contestants must survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins. Desperate for money to save his sick daughter, Ben Richards is convinced by the show’s ruthless producer to enter the game as a last resort. Ratings soon skyrocket as Ben’s defiance, instincts and grit turn him into an unexpected fan favorite, as well as a threat to the entire system. Synopsis – The Long Walk Teens participate in a gruelling high-stakes contest where they must continuously walk or be shot by a member of their military escort. https://youtu.be/ICkzbDZhr6c A huge thank you to all perambulating peeps who trudge through each episode of the show, especially those of you joggers, sprinters, or light shufflers who join in on the live-chat during the Twitch stream this week (and every week!). Frankenstein (2025) The long and storied history of Frankestein and his monstrous creation has been a staple of the cinema landscape since the very beginnings of film. We have seen so many adaptations and interpretations of the Frankenstein monster that some have burned into our psyche in an almost archetypal fashion. From Mary Shelley’s initial creation to today we have seen the monster take a front seat, while the original ideas and meanings have been more and more confused. So how does a creator explore the classic horror story and find something new? with great difficulty if “I Frankenstein” is anything to go by. Well if anyone can do it and do it well, it’s our man Guillermo Del Toro! In this review, Dion is the mad scientist, Jill the voice of reason and caring in a cold heartless world…and Quinny is of course the simple creation: The monster whose origins are born from scientific folly and not from human kindness. Synopsis A brilliant but egotistical scientist brings a monstrous creature to life in a daring experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation. https://youtu.be/y80V_oiAqWU As always, an assembled thank-you to all you crazy mad scientists of mirth who join in with the conversation on the Twitch stream, live each Tuesday night at 7:30pm AEDT. And an especially huge thanks to any of you newly created quasi-monsters who are kind enough to support us by casting a tip into our jar via Ko-Fi, or subscribing on twitch… every bit helps us to keep the electricity running. it’s the only thing keeping us alive. Predator: Badlands The Predator franchise has been long and incredibly varied in it’s scope and quality. From the very first film which was, lets be fair, a macho man monster movie… to the ongoing saga that has been explored in Comics, Games, Movies and animation. The character of the Predator has crossed over with a massive range of other IP’s from Batman and Judge Dredd to Archie (?!) and even the ENTIRE MARVEL UNIVERSE… But thus far we’ve never seen them as anything other than an antagonist. Well all that is about to change in Predator Badlands! Young Yautja hunter Dek is ready to take on the most deadly planet in the galaxy to prove himself to his family. He is going to need to learn a lot about working together with others to survive. Dion, Jill and Quinny are the Predators in this review, and they are hunting down a great film! Nacho Libre Is this your Lucha Libre inspired high flying, wrestling based adventure comedy film? NO! … it’s NACHO comedy film! not… your… nacho. get it? Ugh. From the mind of Director Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Minecraft) comes the story of Ignacio; friar, cook, and secret lucha wrestler. Jack Black stars in this 2006 comedy. And with the unnecessary fart noise of Nacho Libre ringing in our ears, we bid a fond farewell to wrestle-tober; a month where we all learned something and that wrestling films are the friends we body slammed along the way. So now it’s wrapped up just in time for the Spooky season of halloween to sneak on in, for a bit of fun to round out the month. The whole wrestling team is in this episode, and even though they are all wearing lucha masks… you can tell who is who. Synopsis Ignacio (Jack Black), or Nacho to his friends, works as a cook in the Mexican monastery where he grew up. The monastery is home to a host of orphans whom Nacho cares for deeply, but there is not much money to feed them properly. Nacho decides to raise money for the children by moonlighting as a Lucha Libre wrestler with his partner Esqueleto (Héctor Jiménez), but since the church forbids Lucha, Nacho must disguise his identity. https://youtu.be/VNjDltT-Fks A huge thank you to all the mini estrella (and Maxi too) wrestlers who listen to each episode of the show while they train for their big moment… But also thank you, to those hard bitten old wrestlers who never took off the mask, who join in on the live-chat during the Twitch stream this week, and every week! The Wrestler Despite his failing health and rapidly diminishing fame, Randy “The Ram” Robinson (Mickey Rourke) continues to eke out a career as a professional wrestler… partially due to financial hardship and partially in an attempt to hold on to the success of his heyday. Is his world improved by the quest to find love and redemption in the arms of Marisa Tomei‘s “aging” exotic dancer? Or will he find an emotional sanctuary with his estranged daughter (Evan Rachel Wood)? It’s from the same director of Requiem for a Dream… what do you think? It’s laughs all round for this one folks, as we body slam into our first film of Wrestle-tober! Darren Aronofsky’s much lauded 2008 film is our cheery little topic for this week, and the whole team are in the ring for this one! Jill and Peta are the wrestling beauties flying high off the top rope, Dion is hiding behind the Spanish announcers table and Quinny was the ref they knocked out about 10 seconds into the match. Synopsis A faded professional wrestler must retire, but finds his quest for a new life outside the ring a dispiriting struggle. https://youtu.be/wBOqvDs3yko A huge thank you to all the aging wrestlers and exotic dancers who listen to each episode of the show while they should be doing other things… But also thank you, to those wrestling promoters and Deli managers who join in on the live-chat during the Twitch stream this week, and every week! Megaforce From the deepest darkest corners of the 1980s comes a film that most will never have heard of… And for pretty good reason: it’s ridiculously cheesy, utterly misogynistic, completely ridiculous and it may well be the reason camping chain Kathmandu is going out of business: because its just THAT camp! But it’s Dion’s cult cinema choice, and its hard to look past its godawful costumes and insane vehicle designs… But if you do you’ll find something quite fascinating: you’ll find te core text that informed such properties as G.I.Joe, MASK, The A-Team and in later years Team America: World Police. The movie is called Megaforce and it is the absolute definition of cult cinema. some will love it, many will hate it. but it’s sure got something to say. All of the team are here, though some more begrudgingly than others and Peta’s “But Why’s?” are so numerous and loud, that we though we’d actually broken her. https://youtu.be/3vQEgkyf03o As always, a huge thumbs up with a kiss to those great guys and begrudging gals who join in with the conversation on the Twitch stream, live each Tuesday night at 7:30pm AEDT. And an especially huge thanks to any of the generous motor biking mad-men and buggy driving crazies who are kind enough to support us by smashing a tip in our jar via Ko-Fi, or subscribing on twitch… every bit helps us to keep the bikes fueled up and the skin-tight bodysuits polished…. Eddington Divisive, challenging, disquieting; all adjectives that have been placed upon Ari Aster‘s previous works Hereditary, Midsommar and Beau is Afraid. It’s good then that his latest work Eddington continues to encompass these and many more adjectives in its two and half hour running time. Like every film at the moment is stars Pedro Pascal, but unlike every film it also stars Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone. A tale of misinformation and miscommunication set in the height of the pre-vaccinated pandemic; It’s not going to be for everyone. And in fact it was even for all of us. But it’s got a LOT to be unpacked and discussed. Dion, Jill and Quinny are all in for this one, and honestly none of them are sure who is who in this messy narrative. Synopsis During the COVID-19 pandemic, a standoff between a small-town sheriff and mayor sparks a powder keg as neighbour is pitted against neighbour in Eddington, N.M. https://youtu.be/F09HnJHQIdk A huge thank you to all the Mask mandate loving Pro-Vax badass types who listen to each episode of the show, especially those of you passionate protestors of the wwoke way of life who join in on the live-chat during the Twitch stream this week (and every week!). Red Sonja It's been an age since we've seen Red Sonja... a Hyborian Age in fact! Since the characters creation in 1934, her adaption to comics in 1973 and the first film's release in 1985, she has caught the minds of innumerable great creators, artists and storytellers. She has also shown up in this film. After 2008's aborted Robert Rodriguez helmed version which was to star Rose McGowan, it's been a long time between drinks for the OG beautiful barbarian. it's obviously harder to get actors interested in scale mail bikinis in the modern market... it seems you just have to wait long enough and drop the budget enough that eventually someone just says "Screw it, why not?" and thats how we got here... All four of the review team are in for this review, "Occasionally Red Jill", "Pleasantly Earth-toned Peta", and "Concerningly Puce Dion". Though they are all mightily annoyed with "No Confirmed Colour Quinny" for his terrible choice... He's in movie-choosing-jail for a while yet to come... Synopsis The film follows the adventures of the nomad barbarian Sonja, who unites a group of unlikely warriors to face off against Dragan and his deadly consort Annisia. https://youtu.be/Lk7ItIJwAhE?si=Q1L00K3xC2kWIRvK As always, a Hyborian high five to the barbarian and babe-arians who join in with the conversation on the Twitch stream, live each Tuesday night at 7:30pm AEDT.
