Hey everyone! Terribly sorry, but technical difficulties made this episode come out a day late, but I promise that it's worth the wait. On today's episode we spoke to Tiana Jung. We had her in an episode on season 1 and we're so excited to have her here again with us. It's impossible not to enjoy her friendly and inviting personality, and boy does she have some stories to tell. Tiana grew up in Port Moody, and has performed in theatre all around Vancouver over the years. She then went to NYU Tish in New York on Broadway to study drama and musical theatre. Unfortunately, she was another victim of graduating during the pandemic. She had to come home in March 2020, hoping that she would be able to return before graduation, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. She was just about to start tech for an all women show called Pregnancy Pact which unfortunately didn't get to go forward because of the pandemic. Tiana has been back in Vancouver since March 2020, and we're so incredibly excited to have her here with us. New York's loss is Vancouver's gain! Thanks again, as always for coming back to listen to our little show. Like and subscribe on your podcast platform of choice if you haven't already.

On this episode, Dr. Lee Pierce (she/they)--Asst. Prof. of Rhetoric and Communication at the State University of New York at Geneseo--interviews Dr. Clare Daniel (she/hers)--Administrative Assistant Professor of Women’s Leadership at Tulane University--on her judicious new book Mediating Morality: The Politics of Teen Pregnancy in the Post-Welfare Era from University of Massachusetts Press (2017). Mediating Morality is a contemporary exploration of the construction of teen pregnancy in legal events, activism, media campaigns, television, film, and across many domains of popular-political culture since the dismantling of the welfare state, which Daniel definitively places in the year 1996. Daniel argues that these domains of public thought have merged to reconstruct teen pregnancy as a privatized and deeply personal issue of moral failure--what Daniel, following Lauren Berlant, describes as intimate citizenship--rather than symptomatic of ineffective policies that reproduce racist, classist, and sexist structures of inequality. In addition to engaging readings of popular culture texts such as the movie The Pregnancy Pact and pregnancy prevention campaigns, Mediating Morality is also closely attuned to the legal and political events since 1996 that have authorized and capitalized upon an approach to teen pregnancy that absolves the state of responsibility. Pregnancy Pact is a pop-rock musical which tells the story of a group of teens who make a pact to become single mothers together. The 15-year-old Maddie is devoted to her three best friends and they are to her. So, when Brynn gets pregnant, the friends all plan to have children, raising them together and living a dream. Episode 4: Pregnancy Pact   Kristina and I went deep for you guys this week. I just got back from a vacation in my hometown so in honor of being home, we watched The Pregnancy Pact starring Thora Birch!   Sidney Bloom (Thora Birch) is a Internet blog reporter who travels to her hometown of Gloucester, Massachusetts to investigate a string of teenage pregnancies and stumbles upon a clique of gullible and naive schoolgirls who have formed a pack to get themselves all pregnant to stick together. As Sidney seeks more answers to why, she also hits obstacles from the conservative community who are in denial as to what's going on right in front of them and being forced to ignore the realty of teen parenting   The film is available on youtube (google it!) but you can see a better version on Amazon and you an even sign up for a free 7 day trial to the Lifetime Movie Club! All Lifetime all the time!    check it out here: https://smile.amazon.com/Pregnancy-Pact-E-Television-Networks/dp/B004ZLW14S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468284040&sr=8-1&keywords=pregnancy+pact   After that, check out the documentary about the real Gloucester 18 at http://www.gloucester18.com   As for the film “17 Girls” mentioned in the podcast, you can watch it on iTunes and Amazon

Please join me as I chat with Max Ehrich, the angst-driven teenage son of “Lauren and Michael Baldwin” (Tracey Bergman and Christian Leblanc) who returns to his hometown after a long absence at a Canadian boarding school. Fen begins to add fuel to the fire as he becomes infatuated with Summer Newman and becomes her partner in crime in cyber-bullying. For the first time in Y&R history, the plot revolves around the show’s teens and the obstacles that come with being on the brink of adulthood, including young love, rocky parent relations, and cyber bullying. Max has taken on a variety of roles from dancing his heart out in his feature film debut HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3: SENIOR YEAR to catching Vanessa Hudgen’s interest in her music video “Sneakernight.” He received his first recurring guest role on ABC’s “Ugly Betty” as “Randy,” a homophobic bully who unhealthily tries to hide his own love of theater. Ehrich also had the starring role of “Jack Kelly” in the Disney stage musical, NEWSIES, a tale centered around ‘Kelly’ who dreams of a better life far from the hardship of the streets and rallies his army of newsies to strike. He’s gone on to have other notable TV appearances on shows like “iCarly”, “No Ordinary Family”, “Shake It Up!”, “Parenthood” and “Working Class”. He also starred as the male lead in the Lifetime movie THE PREGNANCY PACT as “Jesse Moretti,” a high school baseball player with a promising future whose life is shaken up when his girlfriend intentionally gets pregnant.

The Pregnancy Pact is a Lifetime Movie that aired earlier on this year. After watching this movie, I knew that it was my responsibility to bring further discussion about this topic. The show brought to light many important issues such as the way teens feel and talk about sex, peer pressure, the way schools are dealing with the situation of sex education and teen pregnancy, what parents really know about their children especially when it comes to sex, etc. There are so many angles that I found unsettling in this movie. The sad part about it is, this is A Parent's Reality. So we are going to address it on Monday, October 11th at 9pm est on www.blogtalkradio.com/terrylebony. I think all parents should be listening and encourage your children to listen as well. You will be informed. To call in and listen and/or comment dial 718.508.9378.
