When Robert's father passes away, it falls to him to choose the necktie his father will be buried in. A daunting task considering his father was known around town as "necktie guy," there are literally thousands to choose from, and the two of them were estranged. It's too late for Robert to repair his relationship with his father, but maybe there's still time to fix things between him and his brother.References and Transcript: https://www.almostplausible.com/episode/necktie/Subscribe to the show:Apple Podcasts: https://apple.co/3u9XeMUSpotify: https://spoti.fi/3Jq4eLVRSS: https://bit.ly/3wrjGngConnect with us:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AlmostPlausibleInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/almostplausible/Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/almostplausible.bsky.socialMastodon: https://mastodon.social/@almostplausibleThreads: https://www.threads.net/@almostplausibleDiscord: https://discord.link/AlmostPlausible

About This Episode: Chantel Winters is a Toronto-based actor, playwright, and producer who has built a career by refusing to wait for permission. In this conversation with host Phil Rickaby, Chantel talks about how the realities of the audition grind pushed her toward making her own work. The conversation also digs into & Other Concerns, the film adaptation of the 2019 Fringe hit An Atlas in a Necktie and Other Concerns, how it evolved from a pandemic Zoom project into a short film now available for free on CBC Gem, and what Chantel learned about producing for screen along the way. She also speaks candidly about the shift from non-union to union work, the exhaustion of self-tape culture, the state of diversity in Canadian film and theatre, and why, despite everything, theatre will always be her first love. This episode explores: How the audition grind pushed Chantel toward playwriting and producing her own work What producing outside of Fringe taught her about ticket sales, venue costs, and the gap between expectations and reality The evolution of And Other Concerns from Toronto Fringe to a short film now streaming free on CBC Gem How Eartha Kitt inspired her play, Dear Ms. Kitt. And much more! Guest:
Read transcriptAbout This Episode Blythe Haynes returns to Stageworthy for a wide-ranging conversation with host Phil Rickaby about indie theatre, artistic process, community, and the evolution of a Fringe hit into a feature film. Blythe reflects on how Toronto's theatre scene has changed since the pandemic, why she believes artists need spaces to experiment and fail, and what Canadian theatre can learn from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe model. The conversation also explores the challenges of sustaining indie work in Toronto, the importance of artistic community, and how Blythe's own understanding of her career shifted during the lockdown years. They also discuss the journey of An Atlas, A Necktie, and Other Concerns — the acclaimed 2019 Toronto Fringe Festival production that eventually became the filmed adaptation And Other Concerns, now streaming on CBC Gem. Blythe shares what it was like adapting the theatrical piece into film, acting while serving as a producer, and working within the unusual constraint of keeping the story confined to a single room. The episode also touches on rehearsal room culture, emotional safety in performance, outdoor theatre disasters, the realities of producing independent work, Gangway Theatre's long-developing project Digital Divergence, and Blythe's growing interest in playwriting and collaborative creation. This episode explores The state of Toronto indie theatre post-pandemic Why Fringe in Canada functions differently than Edinburgh Building artistic community outside traditional theatre spaces Turning An Atlas, A Necktie, and Other Concerns into a film Emotional safety and accessibility in rehearsal rooms Performing The Drowning Girls outdoors in near-hypothermic conditions The importance of process over product in artistic work and much more Guest:

Kevin Cole is an artist, a sculptor, a muralist, creative, Teacher of the Year, philanthropist, self-believer, death threat survivor, and an incredibly genuine human being. His works are featured in 5,000 collections around the world, including the Atlanta Airport and City Hall, and pursuing his dream has led him to places he never thought he'd see. Kevin describes his art as sound boards for human experiences, which is why I'm so drawn to them. They capture moments in time and tell a real story. They're thought provoking. And they're about people and their stories, which is exactly what we're doing here. When Atlanta hosted the Olympics in 1996, it was Kevin who was tapped by the Coca-Cola company to create a 15-story mural that would introduce Atlanta to the world. It's truly an iconic piece of work. You can see a picture of it here. In his own words, he describes what that process was like and why it had to be completed in a unique way and the challenges that arose. He also shares why he credits his mom for becoming an artist, reveals what it was like during the beginning of his artist's journey, what it looked and felt like, and ultimately how he carved a life for himself with his creations and built his business. Later, he shares his creative process and how he taps into creator mode, sheds some light on the intersection of commercialization and art, a wild story about how he narrowly missed 9/11, how to get out of a creative slump, and finally, his realest talk. Thank you, Kevin, for the time, the conversation, and everything you shared. All love baby. I recently spent a week in Chicago with my good friend, Amanda Nadig, making this quilt together. Since I had recently bought a small handheld recorder, we thought it'd be fun to take you behind the scenes day by day as we're making this quilt encountering creative obstacles, when things aren't turning out our way and how we navigate through this particular project together. In part one, Amanda and I shared details about this particular commission, the kind of prep work we did to get ready for our week of sewing side by side in Chicago. We had an in-depth reflection on something that was becoming more and more fascinating to us: the way that by working with someone else, it forces us to create this kind of specialized language around the project, one that you might not even have to articulate to yourself but in the company of another artist, you have to put abstract ideas into words. So, if you haven't heard that part of this documentary project, yet, I encourage you to go back and listen to the previous episode and then join us here again for part two. In this part, Amanda and I strategize about quilting: ① how we choose an overall quilting design ② the important relationship between light and color ③ the body is a measuring tool We close this conversation with reflections and tips that we hope support you in seeking out your own creative collaborations.Click here to see images of this collaboration quilt⤷ Learn more about THE QUILTY NOOK here ⤷ Get your free NOOK trial here⤷ Enter here for your chance to win a FREE YEAR on the NOOK!

Along the way we share some helpful tips and meaningful reflections designed to get you thinking about how you may want to incorporate artistic collaboration in your own creative practice. In this conversation, we discuss:① the curious parameters of this project② things we learned about working with silk③ how we've developed a special language working together⤷ Learn more about THE QUILTY NOOK here ⤷ Get your free NOOK trial here⤷ Enter here for your chance to win a FREE YEAR on the NOOK!

Welcome to Mysteries to Die For and this Toe Tag.I am TG Wolff and am here with Jack, my piano player and producer. This is normally a podcast where we combine storytelling with original music to put you at the heart of mystery, murder, and mayhem. Today is a bonus episode we call a Toe Tag. It is the first chapter from a fresh release in the mystery, crime, and thriller genre.Today's featured release is 25 to Life by John Lansing. 25 to Life was released from White Street Publishing and is promoted by Partners In Crime Tours and is available from AMAZON LINK and other book retailers.TG Wolff Review25 to Life is a PI Mystery and is also characterized as Noir Fiction and Crime Thriller. Jack Bertolino is back for his fifth case. A law student is dead. Her crime? Working on a Project for the Innocent case on behalf of Carl Forbes. What Gloria Millhouse finds? Well, it stinks. Before she can move on it, someone moves on her. Now Jack is on the case, looking for the scum behind the shiny badges of the LAPD SWAT team to find the answers.Bottom line: 25 to Life is for you if you like classic hard-boiled PIs who punch first and ask questions later and do the dirty work that the good cops can't.Strengths of the story. The set-up is classic PI. A bright, talent law student is killed in a murder made to look like an accident. (I don't consider this a spoiler b/c if it was an accident, there wouldn't be a story.) She's connected. Her father is a renowned attorney and political supporter who asked his friend the Los Angeles mayor for help. That help comes in the form of Jack Bertolino, former NYPD inspector turned private investigator. I really like this set-up because it gave Jack a legit reason to dive into the case and the backing to go places and ask the questions he needed to.The pacing is excellent. At no point did my attention wander or did I get bored. I got a little anxious a few times, but that was a good thing. This is Jack's fifth case. I have not read the prior ones and this one stood solidly alone. Lansing did an excellent job of briefly providing any needed back story without providing a full page synopsis of the prior cases. It is obvious that Jack's team were in the previous books as they were fully developed characters, comfortable in their own skin.Where the story fell short of ideal. There wasn't a place it fell short of ideal, per se. There were a few grammar typos, such as “ in the wrong place, but those were minor and did not detract from the story. While I thought the final confrontation with the Big Bad was excellent in terms of action and excitement, I did roll my eyes at the set up. It was the only time that I thought Jack acted out of character. He is brave and aggressive, yes, but he is smart, manipulating situations to put the odds in his favor. This time, he chose to run into hell carrying a water bottle. At least he put a vest on. This is obv my pet peeve. I bet most of you hard boiled PI lovers will love it just the way it is.About John Lansingjohnlansing.comJohn Lansing is the author of four thrillers featuring Jack Bertolino—The Devil's Necktie, Blond Cargo, Dead Is Dead, and The Fourth Gunman—as well as the true-crime non-fiction book Good Cop Bad Money, written with former NYPD Inspector Glen Morisano. He has been a writer and supervising producer on Walker, Texas Ranger, the co-executive producer of the ABC series Scoundrels, and co-wrote two MOWs for CBS. The...

Chris Chandler is a maker of new things out of two things, out of three things, out of four — one of the world's consummate collaborators, sharing tracks with luminaries, fusing the verse he inhabits with the chords and choruses of artists such as Dan Bern, Jim Infantino, Peter Yarrow, Anne Feeney and Paul Benoit. I've known Chris a bit over the years, and years ago shared stages with him here and there, and I've always been moved and awed by what he manages to do with a pair of vocal cords and the truth. But I've never heard his full story or gotten under the hood with the head that makes it all work. I'm joined by filmmaking duo JOSH PIKOVSKY and JORDAN TETEWSKY (Hannah Ha Ha) who have challenged me to watch the disturbingly moist 2013 Alexsei German film HARD TO BE A GOD. The only thing that could be MORE fun than watching a remarkably dense, disgusting, three-hour Russian antifilm about a bunch of alien sh*t perverts is listening to a three hour discussion led by a gaggle of severely brain-damaged goofballs trying to make sense of it all without doing a vom! We get into which one of the Beatles is the most innocent, Jordan can't keep his shirt on and makes some shocking confessions, and I teach the boys about milk parties. After dark, we get into The American Friend, Manhunter, Silence of the Lambs, American Movie, Mutual Appreciation, Z, Norma Ray, Harlan County USA, Ear Ache, Alex Kavutskiy's Guide to Filmmaking, I was There Too by Joey Izzo, Stilts by Dylan Holmes Williams, Yorgos Lanthimos films The Lobster, Dogtooth, Kinetta, Necktie, and Nimic, the Batman. and Serenity by Jack Dunphy. Find Josh and Jordan's short films Hannah in April, Sharon 66, and Bergmensch on Vimeo and Youtube, and follow their feature Hannah Ha Ha on IG to find out what festivals it's playing near you: instagram.com/hannahhahamovie Follow Jordan on IG: instagram.com/jordan_tetewsky Follow Josh on Letterboxd: letterboxd.com/wolfroy And you can follow the pod everywhere @screenvomit, or hit the links here: http://linktr.ee/screenvomit!

Do you "put on love" as a formality? Or are you letting love affect every other area of life?
