Do you really need social media to build a following? To build expertise? To be successful? It's something I've been thinking about a lot. I think lots of creators are too. The rote advice that you see from the ultra successful people just doesn't work for most of us. And it doesn't have to. What if I told you there was a better way. As it turns out, today's guest, my friend and Amazon best selling author of the book start a binge-worthy podcast, Krystal Proffitt, agree: starting a podcast is a great way to build your business. In today's conversation, we talk about why podcasting is the best way to build expertise and trust, why there aren't too many podcasts, and how you can start a successful one. Plus, in the pro show, we talk all about how to do interviews the right way. Top TakeawaysPodcasts are a great, intimate way to get your content in the hands of your ideal audience. And, as Seth Godin put it, they are the generous act of showing up. You differentiate your podcast by making sure your audience feels seen and heard. This could (and should) be through relatable stories, and by engaging with them through feedback. The first thing you should think about, before you every consider which mic to buy, is what's your message? Without a message, you don't have a podcast. Show NotesKrystal ProffittMy interview with Krystal on Podcast AutomationAmy Porterfield Sponsors: Check out Liquid WebGo to http://porkbun.com/HowIBuiltIt24 to get $1 off your next desired domain name at Porkbun! ★ Support this podcast ★

Ever wondered how to transform your caregiving experience into a journey of peace, joy and empowerment? The answer lies in auditing - a process I recently undertook for my podcast, the Caregiver Cup, with the help of my coach, Krystal Proffitt.  Krystal's invaluable insights gave me a clear picture of my podcast's strengths and weaknesses. Our discussion spanned new tools, website evaluation, SEO, and the pros and cons of outsourcing - all elements that contribute towards taking a podcast to the next level. But the idea of auditing doesn't just apply to podcasts. As caregivers, we too can leverage this process to move from a state of overwhelm to a stage of empowerment. Only a fraction of caregivers step into this phase, but the benefits are immense - tackling feelings of stress and loneliness, and above all, improving caregiving. In the episode, we explore three potential ways to perform an audit, assessing not just the caregiving aspect but also other life areas. Steve Hartert from JotForm helps us understand the central categories to focus on in a life audit, making it easier for caregivers to break down different aspects of life - from health to finances, and translate these insights into action steps. As we conclude, we discuss the joy that can be discovered in auditing, highlighting the importance of examining our current situation and making conscious efforts to enhance it. So, join us as we navigate through the process of auditing, filling our cups, and living our best caregiver lives. Support the showThank you for listening. Content repurposing is a buzzword in business circles these days, likely because we're all running at breakneck speed and don't have the bandwidth to create MORE new content. Enter….content repurposing: using one key piece of content as the cornerstone for various other forms. But, what does content repurposing for podcast hosts and guests look like? Will you be reusing the audio in different ways? Transcribing it? Creating videos? Deep breath. Lucky for us, we can repurpose content without being a tech whiz or a videographer or spending hours a week recording ourselves. In today's episode, I chat with my friend and content strategist, Krystal Proffitt, to get the lowdown on how she not only repurposes content, but plans it with an eye toward repurposing. Krystal is a content strategist, coach, and host of the award-winning show, The Proffitt Podcast. She specializes in helping entrepreneurs start, launch, and market their content. Not a podcast host? No sweat: your guest interviews are content, too, and can absolutely be used as the basis of your content strategy. Topics covered include: Krystal's background in marketing and blogging, why she transitioned into podcasting, and how her current business grew out of listeners asking for help How, when planning out a piece of content (like a podcast episode), Krystal is already thinking about how parts of it can be repurposed for YouTube, Instagram, etc. Why Krystal sees her podcast as the most important piece of content she produces How to share podcast episodes you've been on, once they go live - and how, by leveraging the opportunity, you're creating a referral network and more opportunities The key channels that Krystal focuses on Full show notes and resources: https://thepodwizegroup.com/content-repurposing-krystal-proffitt

Turning Readers Into Writers

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 31, 2022 26:32

It's been over two years since I started my podcast, Turning Readers Into Writers. When I think about when I first started out, and that very first trailer, that very first episode, and how nervous I was about recording everything, how new it all felt. I was so happy when I found the wonderful Krystal Proffitt, who guided me through everything in lovely easy to follow steps. So what have been some of my Podcast episode highlights? My first author interview was with Elisa Menz, a really brave thing to do as a new author. It was her first podcast. She was doing it in her second language and I was so grateful she put her trust in me.A big turning point for me was interviewing Bethany Tucker, who generously shared her techniques when she's editing her clients' work. Rhonda Douglas was another highlight. She'd written a great blog post on her 4 Folder Method, which I loved and find out more, and so she shared with me her 4 Folder Method.Physical Therapist, Dr. Alexa Harrigan, talked to me about being a pain-free writer. She touched on desk ergonomics, general health and well-being, and how to make activity a part of your daily life without going to the gym. An episode I learned a lot from was with author Sylvia Hubbard, who says you don't need to have everything worked out beforehand. Just having a general idea of where your story is going to go is enough to get started writing. You can iron out the wrinkles later. In terms of crafts, one of my favourite episodes was with September C Fawkes, and she talks about how to use a cliffhanger, and to date, it's still one of my most downloaded episodes. In June of last year, I talked to Nadia Coburn, and we talked about healing trauma through narrative. This has been a very popular episode as we've all experienced trauma at some stage in our life. At the end of last year, I chatted with Nikki Vallance, a debut author. She's also a life coach who uses her skills to help mid-lifers who feel stuck. As she says, she wants to inspire ‘closet novelists'. We talked about the benefits of coaching and both agree that even if the focus of the coaching is on the book, it can impact all areas of your life.I recently interviewed Imogen Clark, the multi-million selling author of contemporary women's fiction. Despite her enormous success, she is incredibly down to earth and pragmatic and epitomises for me the ‘career author'.After raising her family, Imogen took time for herself and explored what it was she wanted in this next stage of her life. She'd always loved writing and so invested in herself by taking a degree course. In March 2022 I interviewed Yuktha Asrani, who really epitomises, for me, the opportunities lockdown has afforded us if we've chosen to take them, and she certainly did!Yuktha is a wonderful example of how, if you have a passion and you decide to follow it through, you can do anything. For those of you who have been with me since the beginning, I want to say a big, big thank you. Thank you for being part of this journey. Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/emmadhesi)

How to Be Successful With Brand Sponsorships as a Creator with Justin Moore

The Future Belongs to Creators

Creators come to ConvertKit with dreams of doing what they love for a living. That usually means sacrificing 9-5s for passion and creativity. But often creators forget that a lifestyle doing what you love only comes when you learn to monetize that passion and think like a businessperson. While skills like negotiation rarely come naturally, all it takes is a little education to increase your income and experience real creative freedom. Sponsorship Coach and Founder of Creator Wizard Justin Moore is an expert at helping creators navigate sponsorships and earn a living doing what they love, in the most literal sense. From living without a paycheck gap, navigating paid sponsorships, and negotiating rates, to simply having the confidence to initiate a brand deal, Justin helps people take the leap from aspiring creator to full-time, successful entrepreneur. In this episode, Charli, Miguel, and Justin discuss the biggest mistakes creators make when it comes to brand sponsorships, what an ideal sponsorship looks like, how to win brands over with confidence, and why you're never too small to add value and earn money working with the brands you love. Key Takeaways [00:58] - Have you heard?  [01:05] - Snapchat is introducing revenue sharing on ads in creator stories.  [04:47] - IZEA released their State of 2022 Influencer Earnings. YouTube and TikTok were the top-earning platforms.  [06:51] - ConvertKit is conducting a survey about the creator economy. Here's a sneak peek at early survey results!  [07:55] - Today's main topic: How can creators run successful sponsorships?  [08:08] - Always ask the brand what the goal of the campaign is. Your pricing should change based on the brand's goal.  [08:55] - Brands have three main campaign goals: conversion focused, content repurposing focused, and brand awareness focused. You can charge the most for brand awareness campaigns. [14:11] - Creators often negotiate against themselves. Rather than overexplaining your rate, lean into the silence and let brands respond.  [16:38] - Don't be reactive with your negotiations. You're not beholden to the brand's proposal. You can create your own “packages” with different content and pricing options.  [21:54] - Be honest with yourself about which sponsorships are a good fit for your audience, be responsive with brands from the beginning, and be flexible if brands occasionally request things outside your contract.  [28:51] - You have to engage brands at every stage of the creator pipeline. Otherwise, you may go months and months without receiving a paycheck.  [30:51] - Don't wait to initiate sponsorships! You have incredibly unique value regardless of your follower count.  [34:41] - When it comes to working with brands, confidence is key.  [36:59] - Listener shoutout! Krystal Proffitt recently hit 4,000 subscribers on YouTube and got to speak at Podcast Movement University.  [37:40] - A sneak peek at next week's episode.  Quotes[13:56] - “There is so much value in the content that you're creating for brands and you should not just be giving the kitchen sink away for free.” ~ @justinmoorefam[22:23] - “It's very very critical that you are honest with yourself that this is going to be a good fit for your audience. If you have a fast money mindset when it comes to working with brands and sponsors and things like that, it's going to be very difficult for you to maintain an intimate connection with your audience as well as one with brands.” ~ @justinmoorefam[31:48] - “What I'm here to say to you is that it does not matter how many followers you have for you to actually start working with brands. Because there are so many different ways that you can bring value to those brands.” ~ @justinmoorefamLinks Watch The Future Belongs to Creators on YouTube Fill out ConvertKit's creator survey!  Justin Moore Creator Wizard Creator Wizard on YouTube Join Justin's email list Snapchat  YouTube Instagram  TikTok  So…TikTok Sucks IZEA The State of Influencer Earnings 2022 Report Wattpad  Facebook Krystal Proffitt Podcast Movement University Isa Adney Connect with our hosts Charli Prangley Miguel Pou Stay in touch Apple Podcasts Spotify Twitter Facebook Instagram Start building your audience for freeWith ConvertKit landing pages, you can build a beautiful page for your project in just a few minutes. Business Unveiled: Expert Tips and Secrets from Top Creative Industry Professionals

If you’ve already looked at our guest today, you might be thinking this is my sister because we share the same last name. Well, she is not my sister. I didn’t even know she existed until just recently, but I’m so glad I know her now! Her name is Krystal Proffitt, and she knows so much about podcasting from her experiences helping people create their own. So if you are interested in starting a podcast, this episode is for you! The podcast world has really taken off, so you may wonder if it’s too crowded for you to join in. Though there are so many talented people doing podcasts, it’s not as crowded as you may think. If you choose a topic for your podcasts that is too broad, then yes, it will be over-crowded. If you get very specific, however, there will be an audience for you and, surprisingly, more success. Speak to a very specific audience, and you’ll find that that audience actually exists outside of your mind.  Getting started is always the hardest part. There are two things that people usually get hung up on. One of them is that they are afraid that they’ll sound stupid. This is natural: no one likes the sound of their own voice. Krystal suggests that you practice talking to yourself so that you can get comfortable with your own voice. The other issue people have is that they don’t have a plan. Nothing gets done if you don’t have a plan! So to get started, practice speaking and start planning.  Sometimes you might not even know what to talk about, but Krystal has some brainstorming ideas for you. Start with answering the questions you get asked the most. Then, create podcasts on all of the stuff you already know. Get that easy stuff out of the way first before you start diving into research topics. As you get established, choose topics that will lead you towards your goal, whatever that is.  Podcasts are a great way to connect with people. If you, like me, want to make a difference in the lives of other people, then a podcast is a great place to start! It’s amazing how much influence your voice can have on your audience. It can be a point of connection between you and your audience. If you want to know more about podcasting, listen to this episode. Check in again next week for even more tips and tricks!    Main Topics: Is the podcast world overcrowded? Getting Started Brainstorming Ideas   Key Takeaways: “Just keep trying, keep exploring those voices that say ‘Hey! Try me!’...because you’ll be very surprised at what you’ll find out about yourself.” “The most important thing is to figure out who you want to talk to.” “There is nothing wrong with your voice. You sound just fine, and there are people out there that need to hear the messages that you have.”
