Dispensationalism and the 12-Day War: A Deep Dive with Andrew Rappaport

Andrew Rappaport and Adam Parker dive deep into the complex interplay of biblical theology, politics, and international relations, centering their discussion on the ongoing conflict in Israel and the implications of dispensationalism in contemporary Christian thought. The episode kicks off with a robust exploration of the so-called "12 Day War," where they dissect recent events, including the intricate socio-political dynamics surrounding Israel and Iran. Rappaport sheds light on the theological underpinnings that shape views on Israel's status as a nation and its relationship with the Jewish diaspora, while Parker interjects with a critique of how modern interpretations often clash with established doctrines. The duo doesn't shy away from addressing the controversial political rhetoric surrounding figures like Ted Cruz and Tucker Carlson, using their exchange as a springboard for examining broader cultural narratives within the church. Ultimately, they emphasize the necessity of engaging in informed dialogue about Israel that transcends simplistic narratives, advocating for a nuanced understanding of both scripture and global politics.Takeaways: The podcast delves into the complex relationship between modern Israel and the concept of dispensationalism, exploring theological implications that arise in current geopolitical contexts. Andrew Rapoport highlights the significance of understanding Israel's historical and biblical context amidst contemporary debates, emphasizing a need for accurate theological discourse. Adam Parker expresses concern over the increasing anti-Israel sentiment within Christian circles, noting a troubling trend of theological interpretations that seem to dismiss Israel's significance. The discussion critiques the recent 12 Day War, with insights into the motivations behind military actions and the implications of U.S. foreign policy on Israel's security. Listeners are encouraged to engage thoughtfully with the contentious narratives surrounding Israel, aiming to foster more genuine conversations that bridge differing theological perspectives. The episode serves as a clarion call for Christians to not shy away from political discussions, stressing the importance of addressing these issues from a biblical perspective, rather than purely cultural or political lenses. Paul Rappaport is an accomplished guitarist who first heard guitar when he was a kid in California, watching a live local TV show featuring country guitar players…a show that was broadcast from a huge L.A. car lot. He learned to play, fell in love with the instrument and by high school was playing in bands. While attending college at UCLA, Paul got a job offer. A very appealing offer from Columbia Records. The position sounded good, but what really sweetened the deal was when he learned he could have all the records he wanted…for free. During his 33 years at Columbia, Paul Rappaport proved to be gifted at promotion and marketing and at forming close relationships with artist and bands, who knew him as Rapp. He gave Elvis Costello the red Rickenbacker used on Armed Forces. Pink Floyd asked Rapp to join them onstage at the London Arena. And he created some of the most memorable and visually stunning event promotions in rock history. All of this is told in Rapp's fascinating new book – Gliders Over Hollywood: Airships, Airplay, and The Art Of Rock Promotion. You can order Gliders Over Hollywood: Airships, Airplay and The Art of Rock Promotion from Barnes & Noble here. You can also order the book from Amazon here.Save on Certified Pre-Owned ElectronicsPlug has great prices on refurbished electronics. Paul Rappaport in conversation with David Eastaugh https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gliders-Over-Hollywood-Airships-Promotion/dp/191682918X Gliders Over Hollywood tells the exhilarating true story of a blue-collar kid nicknamed ‘Rap' who grew up in thrall to rock'n'roll, then found himself right in the middle of many of his heroes' lives as he became the most renowned rock promotion man in the USA. Paul Rappaport enjoyed a storied thirty-three-year career at Columbia Records, where he was instrumental in the careers of everyone from Bob Dylan to Bruce Springsteen, Pink Floyd to The Rolling Stones, Elvis Costello to Billy Joel, Judas Priest to Alice In Chains, and many, many more. The music business from the late 60s through the 90s was an exciting time that mirrored the music and the musicians making it. It was also a time of new and creative ideas on how to market this groundbreaking cultural phenomenon. Eccentric characters were everywhere, and often the managers, promoters, disc jockeys, and record company staff were just as big a show as the performers themselves. This dynamic, entertaining memoir captures the magic of these times and the people who made it happen, revealing the never-before-heard secrets of the promotion and marketing that turned the music industry on its head. From creating the Pink Floyd airship to sword-fighting with Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden and receiving a guitar lesson from Keith Richards, it's a book packed full of extraordinary adventures with some of the biggest names in rock.
