Actor Billy McNamara has been in the room for 40 years of Hollywood: "Stealing Home" with Jodie Foster, the serial killer in "Copycat," "Surviving the Game" with Ice-T. He sat for movie nights with Jack Nicholson and Robert Evans, got coached by Anthony Hopkins, and shared a set with a then-unknown Jim Carrey he was sure would never make it. He also lost almost all of it. In this raw conversation with Tyler Ramsey, Billy traces the binges, the overdose, the years living in his car, two runs at sobriety, and the self-financed comeback he is now championing on his own terms. The Marvel Cinematic Universe gets a fresh jolt of paranoia and political intrigue with "Captain America: Brave New World," a thriller that sees Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) trying to define his place as the new Cap while dealing with international chaos, rogue superhumans, and some very questionable allies. Directed by Julius Onah, the film doesn't just bring back some familiar faces—it makes them part of a tangled political mess of past sins and present-day power plays. Tim Blake Nelson's Leader resurfaces with a grudge, Carl Lumbly's Isaiah Bradley adds emotional weight, and oh yeah, Harrison Ford steps into the formidable shoes of Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, who may or may not be hiding a very big, very angry, very red secret. READ MORE: ‘Captain America: Brave New World' Review: Sam Wilson's Heart, Grit & Determination Trump Superpowers In Marvel's New Conspiracy ThrillerDirector Julius Onah joins The Discourse to talk about all of the spoilery details on Marvel's latest, including what he thinks won him the role of director. In his pitch, Onah sought to explore a more grounded and cerebral take on what it means to be Cap in a world that isn't sure it needs one. "It was about a point of view more so than anything," Onah explained about pitching the film to Marvel. "They were familiar with my last film, a small indie film called 'Luce,' and I first had just a general conversation with Nate Moore and Kiana Davidson at Marvel. We talked again, more generally, about theme tone and character. And, for me, it was sort of a gut check moment of like, you're going to go down the road with people. Are these people that you would even just love to have a conversation with about movies?"
Reshoots, delays, and generally bad news about this one across the internet (and let's not even mention Marvel's recent cinematic lack-of-success rate) has made many folks a bit apprehensive about this movie. But now it's out, so let's talk about it.Captain America: Brave New World118 Minutes, Rated PG-13Written by Rob Edwards, Malcolm Spellman, Dalan Musson, Julius Onah, Peter GlanzDirected by Julius Onah~~~~~You can read more reviews and opinions on our website: https://VSMoviePodcast.com.Please LIKE, SHARE, and FOLLOW us on:Facebook (@vsmoviepodcast) (https://facebook.com/vsmoviepodcast)X (@vsmoviepodcast) (https://x.com/vsmoviepodcast)Instagram (@visuallystunningmoviepodcast) (https://instagram.com/visuallystunningmoviepodcast)Threads (@visuallystunningmoviepodcast) (https://threads.net/@visuallystunningmoviepodcast)BlueSky (@vsmoviepodcast.bsky.social) (https://bsky.app/profile/vsmoviepodcast.bsky.social)YouTube (@visuallystunningmoviepodcast) (https://youtube.com/visuallystunningmoviepodcast)Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to our audio wherever you listen to podcasts (https://shows.acast.com/vsmoviepodcast).And please, if you like what we do, consider helping us keep on entertaining you. Deadline broke the news that Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy is being courted as Marvel Studios' first choice to direct the franchise's next Avengers movie. Though so much isn't known about the future of the Avengers due to Marvel's internal shake-up reordering their release schedule of shows and movies as well as the Jonathan Majors legal issues and consequential firing, Deadline did say Levy was given a script from writer Michael Waldron. It is also rumored that more than 60 Marvel characters could appear. Captain America: Brave New World began reshoots in Atlanta last week, with new cast member Giancarlo Esposito joining the call sheet for the 22 days of additional photography. Unofficial, leaked set photos confirmed the actor's involvement after he heavily hinted at an unexpected role within the MCU. While we still have no word on which character Esposito portrays, all signs point to the role being, quote, ‘villainous' in nature. This week treated us to a batch of brand-spanking new, high-profile trailers, Let's break down our thoughts: Venom 3 Moana 2 Alien: Romulus J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings and Middle Earth works have seen their fair share of adaptations, but one character that has long been absent from the proceedings to the chagrin of many readers is The Fellowship of the Ring's Tom Bombadil. That all changes as Amazon's Rings of Power Season 2 is set to feature the character, with English actor Rory Kinnear portraying the enigmatic forest dweller. This was revealed in a Vanity Fair exclusive. Tolkien himself was often hazy on the character, who has been described as older than old, and more of an observer than active participant in the many conflicts of Middle Earth. We couldn't have expected to carve out a collectable popcorn bucket niche when we started this show, but here we are: Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds unveiled a cheeky ad teasing a somewhat risqué popcorn bucket for Marvel's upcoming superhero team-up. The bucket, shaped like a Wolverine head with a comically wide-open mouth, aligns with Kevin Feige's promise of a “crude and rude” design. Two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali is in talks to join Scarlett Johansson in the upcoming Jurassic movie. Chris Hemsworth is in talks to lead a Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover sequel to Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, with no release date yet. Jeremy Renner joins the cast of Rian Johnson's Knives Out 3, his first role since his early 2023 snowplow accident, alongside Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Andrew Scott, Kerry Washington, Mila Kunis, Josh O'Connor, and Cailee Spaeny. (Kaylee Spain-ee) In addition to producing the It prequel series for Max currently titled Welcome to Derry, Bill Skarsgard will also return to reprise his role as Pennywise the Clown from It and It Chapter 2. Television is in the early stages of developing a 300 TV series prequel, with Zack Snyder in talks to direct and produce. Elle Fanning is in talks to star in Badlands, a new Predator universe movie directed by Dan Trachtenberg, who revamped the franchise with Prey. New Star Wars show The Acolyte is premiering right now, and Marvel Comics announced the wookiee Jedi character, Kelnacca, will be getting a one-shot comic book written by Cavan Scott. Pixar Reportedly Considering Reboots Including ‘The Incredibles' & ‘Finding Nemo' How times change. There once was an era when Pixar just didn't think it needed sequels and could just go from original story to original story. In fact in 2016, Pixar's president Jim Morris said there were no Pixar sequel plans after Brad Bird's “The Incredibles 2,” something of a response to the underwhelming reception to “Cars 2” and to a lesser degree, “Toy Story 3.” “Most studios jump on doing a sequel as soon as they have a successful film, but our business model is a filmmaker model, and we don't make a sequel unless the director of the original film has an idea that they like and are willing to go forward on,” Morris said at the time. While Pixar has certainly tried to stick to that—six of the ten movies they've released since the summer of 2016 have been original— since Morris' remarks, they've released “Toy Story 4” (even when they said ‘3' was the finale), the spin-off “Lightyear,” and this summer's upcoming “Inside Out 2.” A “Toy Story 5” is in the works, and now a new report from Bloomberg— discussing many of Pixar's recent layoffs and woes— says not only are sequels still game, but Pixar is considering rebooting some of its classic films. According to the Bloomberg piece, “Every hit of yesteryear is being considered for a reboot, with Finding Nemo and The Incredibles regarded as particularly strong candidates for new titles.” Pixar's new strategy to turn around their financial problems” involves balancing original movie ideas with sequels and spinoffs, the better to remind audiences what they once loved about Pixar.” The new aim is apparently to make three new movies every two years, which is historically much less frequent to their usual, one film a year cadence, “with every other title a sequel or spinoff and the rest standalone concepts or potential seeds for new franchises.” This also sounds a lot like Bob Iger and Disney's less is more approach and their dialing back at Marvel and Lucasfilm. On May 21, Pixar announced the company's largest restructuring, cutting 175 jobs as the studio refocuses on big-screen films instead of Disney+ projects—also not dissimilar to the way Marvel and Lucasfilm are heading, back to the big screen with a deemphasis on Disney+ programming. It's a sign of the times, unfortunately, and financially they are not great at the moment, a trend that is affecting the entire industry. Will they follow through? This industry is fickle, so we shall see, but if the box office of 2024 is any indication, these alarming trends may just continue to dominate for the foreseeable future. In this week's episode of The Discourse, host Mike DeAngelo roams the forest in search of his next victim while discussing “In A Violent Nature.” The movie follows a resurrected killer through the woods as he stalks his victims, all while searching for his stolen necklace. The film is written and directed by Chris Nash and stars Ry Barrett, Josh Lucas, Andrea Pavlovic, Cameron Love, Reece Presley, and more. READ MORE: ‘In a Violent Nature' Review: Chris Nash's Debut Heralds a Major New Voice in Horror [Sundance] During the interview, Chris Nash discusses not only the obvious homages to '80s slashers like “Friday the 13th” but also the less-expected influences that just as heavily influenced the tone and approach to his first feature film. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/theplaylist/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/theplaylist/support

Vetted scooper with an accuracy rating of nearly 80%, DanielRPK has supplied us with another MCU rumor this week, claiming that Deadpool & Wolverine will undergo reshoots in May ahead of its July release. Reshoots are a normal part of any production, but with Deadpool being Marvel Studios' sole feature film of 2024 and these taking place so close to the film's release, do they give us cause for concern, or excitement? James Gunn's recent social media comments attempting to clarify Peacemaker's status in the DCU canon, may have had the opposite effect. While addressing fan questions on Threads, the filmmaker stated that the first season of the John Cena led Max series is not canon and that the second season would take place after the events of Superman, going as far to confirm that movie's events would have an impact on the show. While we have 2 Avatar aficionados on the panel, we'd figured we'd open up the floor to discuss the series, its source material and future. Who's saying, ‘yip, yip!', ? Another Hollywood strike may be just around the corner, as the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) and major Hollywood studios have begun negotiations for a new contract. Similar to last year's WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the primary focuses include wage increases, contract enforcement, "quality of life" aspects, and protections against emerging technologies, including AI. The current contract expires on July 31, potentially leading to a strike if an agreement is not reached in the coming months. Are we clutching our pearls yet?
