The combination of growing up in an environment heavily influenced by Hip-Hop culture, it was only a matter of time before Rey was exposed to the turntablist and b-boy side of things. The "DJ" in Hip-Hop always went hand in hand with the "MC '' or "B-Boys" at all the scenes whether underground or mainstream in scenes throughout New York City. But it was the actual art and technical skills behind DJing that locked in his interest and passion for it. Absorbing all the information possible from attending DJ Battles, being behind the DJ booth at nightclubs, and watching performances from the best to do it such as DJ Q-Bert, MixMaster Mike, Roc Raida, Jazzy Jeff, DJ Scratch, and DJ Kid Capri, all that was left was to get behind the two turntables and a mixer. The rest was history.' From hours of practice in the good ol' bedroom to DJing in the hottest spots in New York City and New Jersey, the potential in this "career" was endless. Fast forward years of DJing events, and radio. networking, and showcasing his talent, Rey has built a name for himself as a DJ and an MC in the tri-state. In addition, he's become the vice president of one of the most sought-after Latin & Caribbean events companies in NYC. While being one of the main talents of the company, he brings his insight to the company and manages other DJs and MCs within the company. The journey still continues as he is a student of the game and new opportunities arise day to day. It's all a matter of learning, growing, adapting and paying it forward. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/2djs/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/2djs/support

ENDO on the Virtual Sessions presented by The DJ Sessions 6/27/22 About ENDO - There are individuals who are early adopters, then there are those who are innovators. Mike Henderson aka ENDO falls into the latter category. A ubiquitous figure in electronic dance music for going on two decades, ENDO is a musician, a DJ, a teacher, an inventor, and a visionary. A graduate of Berklee College of Music with a degree in electronic music production and music synthesis and a lifelong drummer, ENDO's technical know-how is an inherent gift. He serves as a product specialist for the always innovative audio technology company iZotope and as an online DJ instructor for his alma mater, Berklee Online. He has an ongoing relationship with Native Instruments as a certified Native specialist, having trained the likes of Carl Cox, Grandmaster Flash, Danny Tenaglia, and David Morales on Traktor. He has contributed greatly to the accuracy of Mixed In Key's algorithm. He is also the co-founder of the evolutionary mapping platform, MIDI Monsters, and the booking platform, AGNT. “My sets are all harmonic progression,” says ENDO. “Every song is in key, or intentionally out of key, modulated harmonically. You can subliminally play with people's emotions with harmonic mixing. There's all this tension, then you give them the harmonic release. You have to tell your story. You have to find the songs that speak to you. That's the art form, the intuition of a good DJ.” ENDO has unleashed his patented brand of harmonic mixing at events across the globe including: Pacha, Marquee, and Cielo in New York, Sound in Los Angeles, Guvernment and Coda in Toronto, Stereo in Montreal, Spybar in Chicago, Heart in Miami, Sands in Ibiza, Club Vertigo in Costa Rica, as well as BPM Festival in Mexico and Electric Festival in Aruba. He has played alongside John Digweed, DJ Craze, Roc Raida, Victor Calderone, Danny Tenaglia, Carl Cox, Chus & Ceballos, Eric Prydz, to name just a few, and perhaps given them a much-sought-after technical tip or two in the process. In October 1990, Miguel D’Souza started The Mothership Connection on 2SER FM with Roxanne. Within a couple of years it was Sydney’s preeminent hip hop radio show. Every Tuesday at 2pm (or at 2.30pm for a period), it was one of the few places on any radio station that played hip hop, underground hip hop, local hip hop, while also hosting hip hop DJs and open mic freestyle sessions. Around April 1998, Miguel handed the radio show to me. I was 20. I had no idea what I was doing. And I spent five years trying to work it out while also trying to work out what I was about. In this chat (edited from 2.5 hours), Miguel and I compare notes about the show, what it meant to us, the role we think it played in the local community, some of our favorite memories, and how it changed us. Topics include: - How the format of the show evolved - The recent Australian youth protests. Is change happening? - Indigenous hip hop - Finding yourself by bringing others together Contributing to a community while analyzing it - How Miguel researched and interviewed people Getting people into hip hop - Dealing with aggression, bad rap, open doors - How the Internet and September 11 affected rap and the business of rap - The Four Elements, style enforcing, and fascism Stepping aside as one ages - or not? - Participants, observers, and tourists in subcultures - What’s real hip hop and who gets to decide? - Finding an identity in Australia as an immigrant Names mentioned include: Molly Meldrum, Easy Bass, DJ Kavi-R, Gil Scott Heron, Bootsy Collins, Roy Ayers, Roc Raida, DJ Qbert, Def Wish Cast, Just Us, Mako and Perret, Katalyst, Obese Records, Next Level Records, Parallax Records, Celsius, Bliss n Eso, Hilltop Hoods, Elefant Traks, Urthboy, Meta Bass n Breath, The Sleeping Monk, Ugly Duckling, Raised by Wolves, Wu Tang Clan. Photo Rob aka Robert Mayer is a respected NYC photographer that cut his teeth in the trenches of the Knitting Factory club's long-defunct Tribeca location. Our host Peter Agoston happened to be the in-house talent buyer at the time (2007-2009) and among his nightly shows there, many hip-hop parties would be documented by Photo Rob. Dutifully stationed back-stage, Rob captured a very special page in the history of NYC nightlife - photographing shows Peter Agoston booked w/ the likes of Q-Tip, Roc Raida, Busta Rhymes, Sean P, Chuck D, Rakim, Pete Rock, Diamond D, Lord Finesse, Rhymefest, Pharoahe Monch, Jazzy Jay, Peter Rosenberg, DJ Vlad, ?uestlove, Nice & Smooth, Stetsasonic, Gary Wilson, Big Jeff, Black Moon, Odd Nosdam, Jel, Dante Ross, J-Zone, Lil Sci, Lil Dap, Flying Lotus, Black Thought and countless more. BANG! @southernvangard #radio presents @dj-rob-swift @brolicarm ROB SWIFT interview session! The Queens DJ legend has a new album dropping very soon, and recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to get it down the home stretch. "X-Files: Lost & Deleted” will be Rob’s first album in 6 years, so we sat down to have a chat with him about it, among other things. Rob recounts his first meetings with some of Queens’ finest - Large Professor & Dr. Butcher, as well as the influence his father and older brother had on him growing up in Jackson Heights - which led way to Rob’s DJ/producer/teacher/professor/historian career path. Rob breaks down his recent musings on Grandmaster Flash - and why he feels it’s our duty to speak up when Hip-Hop history is incorrectly revised - even when it may mean course-correcting its elders & pioneers. On some local GA ish - we recount Rob’s appearance at the Savannah Jazz Festival in 2008 and how his relationship with Bob James developed, as well as Rob’s view on the Bob James / Madlib lawsuit. Of course we dredge up some good mid-to-late 90’s stories, like his appearance at the 1995 US DMC Finals with Roc Raida, the introduction and subsequent induction into the X-Men / X-ecutioners and some of Rob’s most memorable battles throughout his career, including the legendary X-men / Invisibl Skratch Piklz battle at Rocksteady in 1996!
