Playliste: Julio Iglesias feat. Stevie Wonder - My love Korn - Here to stay Mariah Carey - Obsessed Chris Gaines - Lost in you Def Leppard - Pour some sugar on me Victoria Beckham - Not such an innocent girl Kylie Minogue - Can't get you out of my mind Michael Jackson - Who is it? Michael Jackson - HIStory Guns N' Roses - Chinese democracy Michael Jackson - You rock my world
Send us a textCarlos Castro is an award-winning music mixing and recording engineer/producer based in Los Angeles, California, with a remarkable 30-year career in the music industry. His expertise has earned him 13 Latin Grammy nominations, two BASF awards, and numerous platinum and gold records, cementing his reputation as a leading force in sound engineering. With a passion for high-fidelity sound recording, Carlos is the owner and operator of Watersound Studios in Studio City, California, where he continues to create groundbreaking music projects.Carlos's journey in music began at a young age. Born in Mexico City into a family of writers and opera singers, he became fascinated with sound recording at the age of nine, when a portable cassette recorder ignited his curiosity. That curiosity led to a brief but memorable incident in which he recorded the sound of a microwave oven, sparking a lifelong love for music and audio. As a teenager, Carlos worked as a DJ in Mexico, later becoming a finalist in a national DJ competition. His passion for sound grew as he studied piano and began exploring music production.Carlos's professional career took flight after he worked at B&K Studios in Mexico City, where he honed his engineering skills. Inspired by albums like Michael Jackson's Thriller and George Benson's Give Me the Night, both of which were engineered by the legendary Bruce Swedien, Carlos sought out opportunities to work with the best in the business. At the age of 19, he attended Full Sail Center for the Recording Arts in Florida, and soon after, he impressed Swedien with his innovative spirit and was invited to work at West Viking Recorders in California.During his three years with Swedien, Carlos contributed to major projects such as the Free Willy soundtrack and Michael Jackson's Super Bowl halftime show. After the Northridge earthquake, he continued to develop his career by working at several major Los Angeles studios before moving on to engineer for iconic Latin music artists like Luis Miguel, Shaila Dúrcal, and Alicia Villarreal. His first major project, Amarte Es Un Placer by Luis Miguel, was a turning point in his career.Carlos's journey culminated in the creation of Watersound Studios, which took three years to build from the ground up. The studio reflects Carlos's engineering soul, with state-of-the-art equipment and a commitment to producing exceptional sound. His career has seen him collaborate with some of the biggest names in music, including Shawn Colvin, Selena Gómez, Demi Lovato, Luis Miguel, Molotov, and many more. His work has been featured in numerous film and television projects, including Desperate Housewives, Hellcats, and the films High Chicago, Perfect Wave, and Alleged.Fluent in both English and Spanish, Carlos has worked on projects across cultures and continents, bringing his versatile expertise to both analog tape and digital workstation recording. Whether collaborating with major artists or working on a film score, Carlos continues to push the boundaries of sound, leaving his mark on the global music industry.___________________Music CreditsIntroEuphoria in the San Gabriel Valley, Yone OGStingerScarlet Fire (Sting), Otis McDonald, YouTube Audio LibraryOutroEuphoria in the San Gabriel Valley, Yone OG__________________My SGV Podcast:Website: www.mysgv.netNewsletter: Beyond the MicPatreon: MySGV Podcastinfo@sgvmasterkey.com

I spent nearly a decade working with Bruce Swedien on projects for Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Barbra Streisand - to name a few.

Here at Gearbuds HQ, we bring you the GOODS. This week that holds extra true as we are joined by our newest Gearbud, Evan Thomas Weiss, the monstrously talented and prolific driving force behind Into It. Over It., Pet Symmetry, Their / They’re / There, and probably a few more you already know and love.On top of being The Nicest Guy(tm), Evan also finds time to work in brand partnerships at Reverb, which we discuss as he generously walks us through his musical history and evolution. We consider the irony in being a Gearboi but not a DAWboi, having his cover blown after showing up on a Rolling Stone best of list, trying to hone in on the source of his drive and motivation, remembering all of the songs, and our first cars. Also discussed: sweet old Eventide and Korg rack gear, Recording in Progress and the importance of engineers, Jimmy Eat World’s Clarity, Slate’s Fresh Air plugin, Black Friday plugin deals from Soundtoys, UA, Waves, NI, Trapt getting kicked off FB, and the legacy Bruce Swedien.…What’s a spammer jammer?

Pop Culture in the Pantheon of Fine Arts” (“Dangerous desde Mark Ryden hasta Michael Jackson.

ED CHERNEY is an engineer, mixer and producer. He’s won Grammys and TEC Awards and just won his first Emmy. He owes success to the musical greats he’s sat behind over the years — giants like Quincy Jones and Bruce Swedien, Don Was and Phil Ramone — listening through their ears, learning how they make great music. Ed’s all up in the tech, but knowing where a song’s heart lies and seeing that it shines through is what he’s known for and maybe why he’s worked with such diverse artists as Bonnie Raitt. The Rolling Stones. Wynton Marsalis. Iggy Pop. Bette Midler. Eric Clapton. Wynonna. Buddy Guy. Jackson Browne. Lenny Kravitz. Ry Cooder. Keb’ Mo. Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, John Mayer, Elton John, Sting, Bob Seger, Jackson Browne, the Goo Goo Dolls & New Spinal Tap. 3 GRAMMYS. One Best Engineered Album win -Bonnie Raitt’s “Longing In Their Hearts” came in a year that he recorded and mixed three of the five albums nominated in the category.Ed has won 5 TEC Awards awarded by NAMM and was inducted into TEC Hall of Fame in 2015. He has recorded and mixed Willie Nelson’s new “Summertime, Willie Nelson Sings Gershwin,”. Ed founded the Grammy’s Producers and Engineers Wing. And I’m current (and past) governor of the L.A. chapter of the National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences. I’m also a founding member of the META Alliance, a group of audio industry experts dedicated to the implementation of high-quality standards in music recording and delivery & participates The Grammy In The Schools and Grammy Camp. He’s a guest lecturer for recording programs for Berklee College of Music (which offers an Ed Cherney scholarship), the USC Thorton School of Music, CitrusCollege and CalArts. Born into a family of talented musicians in Lima, Peru on May 18, 1986, Tony Succar’s very DNA must be imbued with cadence and rhythm. The Succar family moved to Miami, Florida when Tony was just two; at the ripe old age of 13, Tony’s own music career began. He says, “I was privileged to be brought up in a family of musicians: I couldn’t be more grateful.” Succar’s music education began on piano then segued to percussion. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Jazz Performance from Florida International University in 2008 and his Master’s degree in 2010.Succar has worked with artists Arturo Sandoval, Néstor Torres, Ed Calle, Tito Nieves, La India, Obie Bermudez, Jennifer Peña, and Tito Puente Jr., among others. Growing up in Miami—a multi-cultural “Melting Pot”—molded him into a versatile musician, prompting him to make the most of his prodigious talent.President of his own entertainment company, Mixtura Productions, Tony Succar is well-versed in a number of professional roles: bandleader, percussionist, musician, producer, composer, and arranger. He is currently endorsed by Gon Bops, a top percussion brand, and Sabian, one of the leading cymbal manufactures in the world. Whether in a timbales solo, an orchestration, or an explosive groove, Succar’s sound is gripping and distinctive and accommodates the energies and interests of musicians and dancers. Notably, at every performance, Tony focuses on the integrity of his music.Succar’s compositions emphasize combinations of syncopation, harmonic curiosity, rhythmic uniformity, and tasteful melodies. With his unique arrangements and personal charisma, Succar breaks the mold to create enticing masterpieces for all. Tony’s debut album (CD/DVD) “Live at the Wertheim Performing Arts Center” is a prime example. The album received excellent reviews from mainstream media, including this one: “An exciting fusion of South America, Cuba, Jazz and South Beach flavor from an up-and-coming artist who will almost certainly be heard from more in the future.” – Jazz Chicago Reviews.Assembling an exceptional production team and featured artists, Tony Succar has created The UNITY Project, a unique endeavor aimed at the minds, ears and hearts of a global audience. Pop legend Michael Jackson’s music and life philosophies heavily influenced Tony as a youngster and teenager, truly igniting his musical ideas and passion. The UNITY Project is the result: an innovative sound that interconnects elements of American Pop, Jazz, Tropical, and World Music with the enduring foundations of the King of Pop. The UNITY album will explode beyond mainstream media to appeal indefinitely to markets around the world.Unity features more than 100 musicians, such Latin superstars as Tito Nieves, Jon Secada, and India, and the mixing magic of Jackson’s legendary engineer Bruce Swedien. The mission of the UNITY Project is to honor the legacy of Michael Jackson, King of Pop, by remaining true to his artistic essence, excellence, and music. The UNITY Project seeks to unify all human beings’ hearts, talents, peoples and cultures to ensure that the imaginary barriers between people and countries shrink until—just as Michael Jackson envisioned—we all live harmoniously together.

Liquid Mind is the name used by Los Angeles composer and producer Chuck Wild. There are few composers with as much love for slowness in their music as Wild. Chuck draws from classical and pop influences as varying as Beethoven and Brian Eno, Bartok and Rachmaninoff, Bach, Chopin and Fauré, Duruflé and Brahms. Early live and studio experience with the Capitol Records' group “Missing Persons”, and studio work with Frank Zappa, Michael Jackson and many others have helped Chuck to develop high production values. Spending many studio hours over the years with five time Grammy winning engineer Bruce Swedien and famed producer Ken Scott has inspired Chuck to explore unique and subtle gradations of sound and feeling in his music. In November 2005, Chuck presented at the American Music Therapy Conference regarding the use of slow music in treating anxiety. Liquid Mind VII: Reflection won the Coalition of Visionary Resources Award for Best Meditation/Healing Music album of 2005. Chuck's musical experience spans three decades, including writing 125 songs and compositions used in TV/Film and albums. The Pointer Sisters, Tommy Page, Timothy Leary, Wink, Jennifer Rush, Thelma Houston, Glen Medeiros and Philip Bailey are just some of the artists who have recorded his songs. Wild co-composed music with Michael Hoenig for the Emmy (TM) winning ABC-TV series Max Headroom. In 1992, his first composition for two pianos, Los Angeles Fantasy, was premiered by Zita Carno and Gloria Ching at the Bing Theater in Los Angeles. The same year, Wild co-scored the Academy Award (TM) winning film The Panama Deception. In 1989, he co-wrote (with Marti Sharron) the song "You're My One and Only," #1 hit in Europe for Jennifer Rush. Over the last twenty years, Chuck has lent his studio talents to projects with Michael Jackson, Paula Abdul, Missing Persons, Philip Bailey, Frank Zappa, and many other artists. http://www.liquidmindmusic.com
