This Saturday’s, Sep, 14th., UFC on ESPN+ 16, Fight Night 158 event from Vancouver, BC, Canada, featured a co-main that went the distance between Glover Teixeira and Nikita Krylov, ending in a split decision going Glover’s way & we had an all too brief main event featuring top-ranked lightweight strikers, the living legend - Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone - the underdog for this fight vs. Justin ‘The Human Highlight’ Gaethje. Being not only fan favorites, but friends, made it hard for Justin to keep going hard at Cerrone when he was down, until the ref called the stoppage at 4:18 in round 1 via KO/TKO. We also had a round 1 no contest - due to an accidental eye gouge with Todd Duffee vs Jeff Hughes, decisions on Connelly vs Pereira and Hall vs ACJ. Our opener on the main event ended in a Peruvian Necktie Sub at just 3:38 in round 1 with Misha Cirkunov just killing Jimmy Crute in short fashion. The undercard had four decisions and two finishes. Uppercuts….and sometimes wild haymakers! The creativity comes from position, mix-ups, and that sweet timing. The target never changes. So we pulled out Copywriting Secrets by Jim Edwards. Wrote the 10 Reasons Why People Buy on the board… And kept chopping at it from different angles. What happens in reality is you hit someone, and they don’t always fall down. Sometimes really fuckin hard, and yet there they stand. The secret is to keep chopping away at the same goal until… Either the job is done or until you DECIDE it no longer suits your greater purpose. In this episode, Jeff and Eric discuss UFC 169 and how the Varner vs. Trujillo fight was a perfect contrast to the Overeem vs. Mir fight when it comes to keeping composure when stunning your opponent and how that plays out. Jeff also shares tips on what to do when wobbled and what to do when wobbling your opponent to ensure the fight goes in your favor. Also, Eric shares some strategies on how to properly train the energy systems for MMA to develop peak conditioning and Jeff talks about one of his favorite striking techniques - the uppercut.

It's all about the right upper cut in this video. In this demonstration, I show 2 variations of the right uppercut. The close uppercut, for when you are up close to your opponent, and the long uppercut, that you can use from a longer range. Uppercuts are a great punch, as you can generate lots of power in them and you can start to throw them at your opponent just beyond their field of vision. The short uppercut is used to drive up through the guard of an opponent. Aiming for the underside of the chin, you are trying to whip your opponents head back. When the head gets whipped back, this causes confusion, and this is the time to start following up with more punches - hooks, straights etc. The long uppercut is a harder technique and if timed correctly can be a great knockout punch. To get as much knockout power into your punch as possible, you need to encourage the opponent moving towards you. Combine the momentum of your opponent advancing towards you with your punch powering aimed at them, to give you the perfect recipe for a knockout shot. This advice is perfect for all punches, if you can draw people onto your punches, they will always be harder and this is one of the great skills of boxing. More at www.sneakpunch.com
