Send us a textWe know it is happening out there, but we may be surprised to hear that trafficking affects the girl next door. Sex trafficking is happening in every state, including right here in Arizona.Sarah Buchanan, founder of Hope Rising AZ and a 16-year law enforcement veteran who served on the human trafficking unit, says there's a critical gap in services for survivors. Arizona currently ranks 13th in the nation for sex trafficking—“… yet Hope Rising Arizona is now the only restorative care sanctuary for sex trafficking survivors south of Phoenix”.As my friend and Executive Director of Hope Rising, AZ, Andy Thomas shares, 80% of women who don't receive care will return to their abusers. The need for safe, restorative spaces couldn't be more urgent. In this episode, you're going to hear the story of a survivor, her name is Selena—She seemed like the girl next door, yet nobody knew that abuse and exploitation at the age of 8--- would set her on a trajectory to entrapment in the commercial sex industry, with no way out. This episode isn't for children or the faint of heart, but it is essential listening. Selena's story will open your eyes to what's happening in our own backyard—and you will see how God has reclaimed Selena's story; she has been rescued and restored. You will also hear about ways to protect your family and how you can be part of the solution.Stay connected with the work of Hope Rising AZFacebookHope Rising Arizona info@hoperisingaz.comPROSPECTIVE RESIDENT HOTLINE: (520) 895-1511 8am - 5pm, MTFight the New DrugHere are two FREE Ebooks for you! 1. After the sudden loss of a close friend, another friend of Sarah's challenged her to a an epic sew-off as a creative outlet for the grief she was holding. Sarah's idea was to sew a swatch onto a trucker hat. Little did she know this hat would propel her into her now extremely successful business, HEC Studio, that sells hats out of her 40 foot solar powered school bus. Sarah always knew she wanted to be her own boss and she made it happen. She knew nothing about diesel mechanics and everything about good (and sustainable) fashion style. She was confident she would figure it all out and with laser-like-vision of being a successful artist and living simply she has created her dream life. Sarah believes in the power of putting your mind to something and making it happen. She's had people doubt her along her path and has let this fuel the fire in her to see things through. A snippet of our conversation: Minimalism Manifestation Now more than ever, consumers are supporting small businesses Self-worth and success Fake it until you make it Sacrifices like being broke to get where you want to go Pivoting during a pandemic Structure and exercise fuel can fuel success Sarah is like a ray of sunshine. Chapter 1: A big day in Ottawa where we're expecting the throne speech as well as a special national address from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.  Global News chief political correspondent David Akin joins us to talk about what we might hear. Chapter 2: After a pretty steady recovery, job postings flatlined in the third week of September.  That's according to data from Indeed DOT C-A, Brendon Bernard is an economist at the Indeed Hiring Lab and he joins us with some analysis. Chapter 3: There have been many changes to how sporting events are held due to the COVID-19 pandemic. One that you may not have noticed is the style of whistle that referees are using. Ron Foxcroft is from Hamilton, Ontario and years ago he created the Fox 40 - the most popular whistle used in sports. Recently, he has had to adapt again, and is now selling an electronic whistle. The electronic whistle has been a hit - the company has received 50-thousand orders so far, including orders from the NFL and NBA. Chapter 4: Another big story out of Ottawa today, as the Supreme Court will hear provincial challenges to a federal carbon tax.  Environmental Defence is an advocacy group that supports a federal price on carbon emissions, and they're one of the groups participating in the hearings.  Sarah Buchanan is their clean economy program manager joins the show Guest: Sarah Buchanan, Clean Economy Program Manager at Environmental Defence. Chapter 5: It's unlikely that Trudeau will call a federal election and Canadians want a throne speech focused on the immediate future. Guest: Darrell Bricker, IPSOS Public Affairs CEO. Chapter 6: Snap elections don't always work out the way the incumbent hopes.  Dave Barrett and Glen Clark both got a taste of reality when they sought reelection. Clark squeaked out a win but it was short lived, and there's no doubt John Horgan is shooting for a majority here.  Guest: Cara Camcastle, professor of political science at Simon Fraser University.

Bonnie Fechter is a fashion label by Sarah Buchanan and Rosie Ingleby produced entirely in the UK which challenges the seasonal structure of fashion collections.  They say: "As designers, we've always been really passionate about clothing and design, however, quickly became disillusioned by the fast fashion industry and how it encourages a throw-away culture. We wanted to create a conceptual clothing label to make people more consumer conscious, to really appreciate the quality and design process involved and to fall back in love with clothes!" Co-hosted with Chloe Vasseghi, in this episode, we discuss influences from their Scottish heritage, the growing crisis of waste in fashion and the need for a new understanding of clothes beyond the fashion prism that sees material in terms of what's hot and what's not.
