I've said it before and I'll say it again, marketing is storytelling over and over again. In this day and age marketing is both easier and harder than it's ever been before because it's all about storytelling. When your marketing plan is unclear, and there is no story being told it just doesn't exist. There are several things to consider when looking to implement and deploy your marketing strategy. For example, what does your user experience look like on your website, what social media platforms are you investing your time on, do you have SEO and several others. In this episode, we're going to cover the factors to consider in the implementation of your marketing plan after you've worked through the other pillars I've mentioned in the first 3 parts of this series. And if you're interested in diving deeper into each of these pillars, come join us in my course, Launch to Livelihood! Design is so much more than your logo, typography and your brand colors. In this 3 of our 5-part series, we're going deeper and thinking wider about the design of your business. Beyond the aesthetic piece of designing your business is what I call, design functionality. Similar to brand identity, marketing materials and web design, the design functionality of your business is just as critical in building your business. Both equally important, design aesthetic encompasses the LOOK of your business while design functionality encompasses the FEEL of your business, i.e. What draws people to your business based on how it makes them feel, and also, how it makes you feel? Designing your business to fit with your personal life and your long-term goals and visions, and finding ideal clients that fit your personality type and the types of people you enjoy being around. Never forget, people will hire you for you, not your photography, so design it in a way that aligns with who you are. I also share some staggering facts about user experience and your website that will help you consider the design piece of your business. In the last episode, we talked about the foundation of your business and the very first pillar of marketing your business, DISCOVERY. Make sure to give that a listen if you haven't already. There is SO MUCH information out there on how to build a successful business. It can feel overwhelming to know what you should and shouldn't do. In my experience, some of the best advice comes from those who have been through it. Those who have made several mistakes tried plenty of tricks, and have been able to count their wins and successes. This is why I'm sharing this five-part series, How to Ethically Scale Your Business without Using Slimy Marketing Tactics. I'm going to break down my personal approach to business, mentoring, coaching, and what has been the foundation of what would end up being a million-dollar photography business. Trust me, I've been there, done that when it comes to getting a business off the ground, and I'm passionate about sharing all the ins and outs with others so you don't have to feel all alone. In this first episode of five, I share the three mistakes I see people make when it comes to ethically scaling their business. Marketing yourself is so important! Afterall, it's how people find your business. Sales and marketing should not feel slimy. It should be an invitation and it has to come from the heart if you want it to make waves. If you find yourself paralyzed to even start, or hiding behind factors that don't push you to truly put yourself out there, or if you're struggling to niche down and know how to market yourself in a way that feels GOOD and true to you, give this episode a listen. Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart because it opens you up to really uncomfortable growth and with that comes plenty of opportunities for imposter syndrome to show up. Imposter syndrome has a great way of stopping you in your tracks. It tricks you into overthinking mode where you begin justifying all the reasons why you CAN'T do something or why you don't belong. But if we shine a light on it, imposter syndrome is an indicator that you're about to do something new, something different, something really freakin' cool and probably challenging! So, rather than cowering to its fear, notice it, thank it for being there and remember that you're embarking on a new YOU and pushing past your comfort zone. In today's episode, I speak openly and honestly with Launch to Livelihood alumni Kelle Marie and Kristin Bailey about all the times in which imposter syndrome has shown up for all of us. We each touch on how it affects each of us individually and what we've done to overcome it. We touch on: Imposter syndrome as a direct reflection of your self-worth Self-counseling ourselves through imposter syndrome The struggles that Enneagram 6's have Comparison as the thief of joy How boundaries play an important role in squashing imposter syndrome The value in knowing how imposter syndrome shows up for you so you can catch it when it's happening The importance of having a community that lifts you up Come be vulnerable with us. Let's talk about organic traffic vs. paid traffic. You've built your website, your social media content is flowing, and you've got blog posts written and posted. In other words, your organic traffic is built, and now it's time to dive into paid marketing. Paid traffic is an excellent way to bring more people your way. But how do you do it and what are things to consider? Listen to this episode where I coach Malina Taylor of Malina Taylor Photography on how to get started and be successful with posting Google ads.We talk about: Knowing if you're in the action phase and ready for people to sign and commit, or if you are in the exposure phase where you just want people to start noticing you The benefits of having organic material (blog posts, reels, tiktoks etc.) already set up prior to posting ads Making sure your blog content is long enough in order for Google to pick up on them easily Looking at how to capture someone's attention with the 7-word rule Creating reels that show your face and give your followers informational content they want to know about And lastly because we're entrepreneurs, we touch on doing scary things. The importance of respecting the process with its highs and its lows. You will go from being scary and hard with not much is happening to being scary and hard because you're overbooked and have so much to manage. One of the fastest ways to build your client base is by defining a niche. Once you know your niche it's liberating because you know who you're working with and how to price yourself and then own that pricing. From there, you can begin telling your stories. The stories that draw your dream clients to you. Your website is the first place where you get to begin telling your stories. It should tell viewers who you are, who you're speaking to, and why they should be here. People want to know why they should choose YOU and your business. So, highlight yourself on your website and your social media presence. The people who resonate with you will begin to follow you and care just as much about the service or product you're selling as they will about who you are as a person in your day-to-day life. And all of this will be easier for you to do once you're operating from the playing field that is your niche. Listen to this episode with Katie Paye of K.P. Your website should be working hard for you. It should be your first employee and if you're just starting out, hopefully, it's your only employee for a while. But in order for it to do its job well it's important that you strategically set it up. In this coaching call with Elizabeth DeVoe, we cover mannnny of my top tips for building your website in a way that will attract your dream clients. After all, your website is FOR them! For example, and I know I've said it before, but I'll say it again, having your prices front and center on your website is one of the best ways to build trust with your ideal clients. Not only does it reduce your workload by having to answer to everyone who inquires, but you know when someone does inquire that it's highly likely they really want to work with you! In entrepreneurship, the magic really begins to happen once we niche down. That's when things start to grow and take off. Once we find our niche we align with our purpose, our drive, our dream clients, and the vision of how we want to be working and who we want to be showing up as. I'm not saying it's not valuable to practice many things and apply yourself in more ways than one. When we are just getting started that's exactly what we want to do (unless of course, we know our niche right off the bat), that way the day you do work for whatever niche you will go into, you'll know you've found it cause it will spark inspiration within you. On this coaching call, I'm speaking with Amber Canterbury of P Lazy Y Photography about niching her photography business down. We go into the fun and irritating game of asking WHY over and over. Why that client? Why that specific work? Why you? We also cover building your website so that you speak directly to your niche of people. And as an added bonus (especially for those photographers of you out there) I help Amber with tips on how to get photos of your niche onto your website when you're just starting off and don't have enough to go off of. For those of us creative entrepreneurs who find a way to blend our creative passions into our work, we really have our lucky stars to thank (not to mention years of work and practice at something). I mean, how cool is it that we can earn a living doing what we love most with what inspires us. But speaking of earning a living, not everyone wants to pay us for our talents. Worse is when they tell us they can't pay us anything but they'll get us “exposure”. When you know, like really know, your worth and talent, exposure isn't what you're looking for. Holding boundaries and knowing your worth is key to finding the clients who will pay for your services. In this episode, I'm chatting with my good friend Katy Wherry. She's a flutist (a really excellent one) and is on a mission to celebrate the talent of others and lift them up so they can feel confident to go out in the world and not only share their talent but get properly compensated for it too! We touch on: “No” is a full sentence and not making excuses when we have to use it The importance of taking breaks from your passions especially when they become your work Trust that when one thing doesn't work out that the thing that is waiting for you is on its way Rest without guilt or shame Find your passion and the money will follow The correlation between the money you spend and the energy you give And so many more good tidbits! Whether you are just beginning your business or you are pivoting to the next level in your business you're most likely going to ask yourself the question - how do I price myself? And it's a very important question to ask because how you price yourself will inevitably attract different clients. Therefore, it's important to know who your dream client is and what is the best way to set your pricing in order to attract those dream clients. In this Fearless Fifteen episode, I am talking about two different pricing structures that you can use when determining how best to set your pricing at different stages of your business, for different offerings you may have, and for different types of clients that you're attracting. These two structures are Charm Pricing and Prestige Pricing. I am a firm believer in building your team as soon as you launch your business. It's something I wish I'd done for myself when I first started mine. Hiring a team, especially a virtual assistant, will bolster your business tenfold. With the support of a trusted person or several people, you'll be able to prevent burnout (yes please!), scale more quickly (more of that!), and have the type of accountability you need to stay the course (I can breathe!). In this episode of the Fearless Fempire podcast, I'm chatting with my trustee, incredible, life-saving, VA, Brianna Robinson. Not only has Brianna helped my business grow immensely, but she's given me the freedom to focus on the things I love to do and create more work-life balance. Brianna was raised by her entrepreneurial parents whose footsteps she'd never thought she'd follow. But alas, her academic career pursuits of visual communication journalism, business administration, and serving others through public administration, landed her where she is today, helping hold creative entrepreneurs like myself together. We talk about: Hiring team members who have integrity and character over experience Knowing who is a good fit for your team Knowing when it's time to hire The value of creating strategy and setting expectations so when you do hire you have a clear sense of what support you'll need How much more enjoyable work is between independent contractors who hold a greater sense of accountability to themselves and the team as well as the freedom to work how they work best A bonus sidebar conversation on moving out of debt Show Links: Effortless by Greg McKeown
It's information overload out there! Search #entrepreneur or #business and you'll be inundated with advice on what to do and what not to do! The truth is, we all must find our way by simply doing. What works for one person, might not work for the other. This is how we build a strong foundation to stand on. When I left the corporate world back in 2012, I had no clue what I was doing. But throughout the years of experiencing both success and failure, I have ground to stand on now. And I'm still always learning. The things I've learned over the years have helped me lean into my leadership strengths and style, and have helped me understand what feels good in my business. I've learned where my boundaries are and have built the moral compass for my business so that I can show up each day in my business feeling excited about it. These 10 things are a part of that. Take what you want from them and leave the rest. You'll find your way by trying what works for you too. It's probably safe to say that we are all raised with weird, confusing beliefs about money whether they come from our families, society, or both. Because of this, it's almost guaranteed that when we step into the world of entrepreneurship we run smack-dab up against our own personal money blocks. Money is energy. How we choose to relate to money is often a reflection of how we relate to our sense of worthiness. By healing our relationship with money, we heal ourselves. Tansy Baigent, a holistic counselor, shamanic healer, therapist and empowerment and meditation coach offers a fresh perspective on an area of money not a lot of people (especially us female entrepreneurs) understand quite yet - cryptocurrency. It's not often we hear someone blending ancient traditional healing practices with future-forward digital currencies. But Tansy does just that. As a crypto coach, Tansy helps guide women to claim a sense of agency over money as part of their sovereignty. Unlike paper money, cryptocurrency, like Bitcoin, is a form of digital currency where you have control over the process, ultimately empowering you to take control of your money and have autonomy over your finances. Tansy inspires us to take responsibility for the way in which we relate to money to build a life filled with abundance and prosperity. If you've been looking for a conversation about cryptocurrency that doesn't make your head spin with words you've never heard of, or that feels unrelatable this is the conversation to hear. Tansy distills cryptocurrency in a way that feels both tangible and inspiring! Come learn with me! We also touch on: How cryptocurrency is a human rights issue Being able to send money anywhere around the world with cryptocurrencies Bitcoin as a lifeline as the future moves on Whether Bitcoin is finite or infinite Tansy's tips for getting started with cryptocurrency and Bitcoin How your life can change when you start working through your money blocks Where to find Tansy: The Crypto Ethic The Crypto Ethic on Instagram Tansy Alexandra Website Follow us at:Taylor Jones Photography Website TikTok Instagram Facebook
