Walt Disney World has a serious problem in Star Wars Galaxy's Edge and there's no easy solution. Our take on this, plus the Garden Rocks concert line-up, a lengthy Disney pool closure and top picks for Valentine's goodies at Disneyland and Walt Disney World.Do Disney Parks Have a Star Wars Problem? There's trouble brewing in Galaxy's Edge and it's not coming from the Dark Side. After months of persistent rumors and speculation about the value and experience of Disney's Galactic Starcruiser, Disney has announced that it was forced to cancel several Galactic Starcruiser dates in the summer and fall months due to low occupancy, which could be a troubling sign for the hotel's future. People who had booked were offered half-off to book again on a future date. Speculation has been everything from the cost, to the characters involved to the repeatability of the experience. For me, it's also an issue of the guest experience, or rather the pricey and intended immersive experience being ruined by obnoxious and other annoying guests who typically ruin things for others on virtually any Disney attraction. This type of behavior has gotten worse since Covid as the entitled few have been frequently ruining it for all--so much so that Disney has changed its acceptable guest behavior policies and publicized the fact. No matter what the reason, is there any way to fix the problem? For us, it's not the price alone: it's the experience. If you're paying that kind of money for an immersive experience, the risk of having it jeopardized by someone filming all the time and not taking part, is a no-go. In my opinion, Disney should ban all guests from bringing phones or any kind of devices, except in your room. Anyone acting out of accepted standards should be jettisoned through the airlock. Make this clear up front. --Garden Rocks Concert Lineup for the 2023 EPCOT International Flower & Garden FestivalThe Garden Rocks Concert Series Line-up is coming into view for the upcoming EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival in March. Pete and Vicky discuss the 2024 point charts released by Disney Vacation Club. For the first time in a few years, there were no significant changes. DVC also increased direct pricing for most resorts. Disney announced the closing date for Splash Mountain at Walt Disney World. RunDisney volunteer benefits have been reduced without notice, starting with the recent Wine & Dine Half Marathon. DVC Points Charts Released for 2024 Disney Vacation Club released the 2024 point charts last week, and the biggest item of note was that there were no significant changes beyond the dates of the holidays shifting. This is the first time in four years that the points charts have stayed the same, as over the last three years Disney has been slowly increasing the amount of points required for staying in October and November while at the same time lowering the number of points required for summer stays. Source: Disney Vacation Club website Splash Mountain at Disney World Closing January 23rd On December 3rd, Walt Disney World announced that the final day of operation for Splash Mountain will be on January 22nd, with the ride permanently closing for good on January 23rd. There has been no announcement for the final closing date of Splash Mountain at Disneyland Resort, but the ride is expected to close soon since both rides are scheduled to re-open in late 2024 as Tiana's Bayou Adventure. Source: Walt Disney World website, Theme Park Tourist Direct Pricing Increases across Multiple DVC resorts Disney Vacation Club increased direct pricing for Aulani Disney Vacation Club Villas, Disney's Riviera Resort, and Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa to have a base price of $217 per point. Many other sold-out resorts had direct pricing increase by $10 per point: Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort (now $275) Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge (now $215) Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney's Wilderness Lodge (now $250) Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas (now $210) Disney's Beach Club Villas (now $275) Disney's BoardWalk Villas (now $240) Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort (now $165) Disney's Vero Beach Resort (now $150) Disney's Old Key West Resort and Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spas went up as well by $5 to $205 per point. The only resorts to not increase were Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and interestingly Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, which is expected to have new units opening in 2024. While direct prices are increasing, resale prices are dropping due to a large amount of units on the market. Many DVC contracts can be purchased on the resale market for up to $100 per point less than direct pricing. Source: DVC News RunDisney Reduces Benefit for Volunteers Volunteers for the recent Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend were surprised when they received park tickets that were not valid until after 1:00 p.m. In the past, Disney would mail out full-day park tickets to each volunteer within 60 days after the conclusion of a race. However, this time they were handing them out as they were leaving the event. Source: WDW News Today My DVC Points is an awesome community of DVC members. New DVC Member Lounge coming to Disneyland in 2023 Disney Vacation Club is developing its first Member Lounge at Disneyland Resort in California. The lounge will be called “Disney Vacation Club Star View Station” and is anticipated to open in the first half of 2023. The new lounge will be located in the heart of Tomorrowland at Disneyland Park, in the space on the second floor of the Star Wars: Launch Bay building. The sleekly designed “space” will be home to a dedicated Disney Vacation Club Member Services team, as well as plenty of casual seating, complimentary Wi-Fi, device-charging stations and more. The new lounge will be open daily during scheduled hours to eligible* Disney Vacation Club Members with valid park tickets and reservations to Disneyland Park. Source: Disney Parks Blog Discounts on three older properties for direct purchase DVC has reintroduced discounts for three older properties: Disney's Old Key West Resort, Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort, and Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows. Old Key West and Saratoga Springs currently have a base price of $200 per point while Polynesian is set at $250 per point. The supply of points at these resorts is limited given their "sold out" status. Net prices for Old Key West and Saratoga are on par with Riviera while Polynesian is considerably higher than even Grand Floridian.
