The Disney Skyliner at the Walt Disney World resort has become a fan favorite mode of transportation. Is it worth it? This episode of Mouse Minutes was originally recorded just weeks after the Disney Skyliner opened in fall of 2019.
In this episode, we dive into the history and exciting (hopeful) future of the Disney Skyliner. The Skyliner currently serves four resorts and two theme parks at Walt Disney World. Inspired by the original Skyway gondola system that once connected Fantasyland and Tomorrowland in Disneyland and Magic Kingdom, the Skyliner combines nostalgia with modern innovation. Each gondola features designs with beloved Disney characters, adding an extra touch of magic to the transportation experience. With the help of Johnny J from the DMSW Podcast, we're thrilled to unveil a new extension and update to the Skyliner. This expansion aims to enhance the transportation system while adding immersive and interactive experiences, similar to the Hogwarts Express at Universal. Redesigned Skyliner cabins will feature state-of-the-art screens displaying themed visuals and character interactions, making the ride an attraction in itself. We're also introducing air conditioning and solar panels to ensure comfort and eco-friendliness. This new line will connect six additional locations, including Galaxy's Edge, Blizzard Beach, All-Star Resorts, and Coronado Springs, each offering unique interactive experiences. Join us as we explore these exciting plans to transform the Disney Skyliner into a magical journey across Walt Disney World! We've even got commentary from Hannah of Learning the Magic Podcast!Follow our guests on Instagram:@thedmswpodcast & @hannahlearningthemagicProject Managers: Marissa & Johnny JDon't forget to check us out on Instagram and our brand new website!

We share exactly how it works and what you get (and don't get) to help you decide if it's worth the money for you and your family.Disney After Hours Events Return to Walt Disney World Resort in January 2024But Whether They're Worth it for You Depends on One ThingDisney After Hours events coming back to Walt Disney World kicking off on January 10 at Disney's Hollywood Studios, January 11 at Magic Kingdom and February 2 at EPCOT.These separately ticketed events give you three extra park hours to ride rides, visit attractions, meet characters and snack on a few unlimited free treats. Treats usually include popcorn, Mickey ice cream bars or sandwiches and select drinks (non alcoholic) as specific locations in the park.Disney positions Disney After Hours as offering shorter wait times to select attractions and character experiences, but it's important to know that that's not always the case. There may be more dates added in 2024, but currently announced dates and prices are as follows.Disney After Hours Event Dates, Times and Ticket Prices(Ticket Prices in Brackets are Annual Passholder and DVC discount price)Disney's Hollywood Studios: 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 10 - $155 ($125)Wednesday, January 24 - $165 ($135)Wednesday, February 21 - $175 ($145)Monday, February 26 - $175 ($145)Wednesday, March 13 - $165 ($135)Wednesday, March 20 - $175 ($145)Wednesday, March 27 - $175 ($145)Wednesday, April 3 - $175 ($145)Wednesday, April 10 - $175 ($145)Magic Kingdom Park: 10:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.Thursday, January 11 - $155 ($125)Monday, January 15 - $165 ($135)Monday, January 22 - $165 ($135)Thursday, February 1 - $165 ($135)Monday, February 5 - $165 ($135)Monday, February 12 - $175 ($145)Thursday, February 29 - $175 ($145)Monday, March 4 - $175 ($145)Monday, March 18 - $175 ($145)Monday, April 8 - $175 ($145)EPCOT: 10:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Friday, February 2 - $149 ($119)Thursday, February 8 - $149 ($119)Thursday, February 15 - $159 ($129)Thursday, March 7 - $159 ($129)Thursday, March 28 - $159 ($129)Thursday, April 4 - $159 ($129)If you have a ticket for an event, you can enter that park starting at 7:00 p.m. Of special note for the Magic Kingdom: a standby line is planned for TRON during Disney After Hours, meaning there will be no virtual queue (which could have been a time saver, as it was during Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party). Keep reading for new storyline details from our friends at Walt Disney Imagineering and a new piece of artwork coming to the treehouse!Within the updated tree, you'll find the mother's music den, the sons' nature room and the daughter's astronomer's loft. Located on the ground are the kitchen and dining room, plus the father's art studio featrues hand-drawn sketches and paintings of each room.As the story goes, the family created an oasis among the trees inspired by nature and using objects found around them. Next to the stairwell is a waterwheel, powered by a nearby brook. The family uses this and a pulley system to get the water they need into their treehouse. This walk-through attraction should be worth exploring when you visit the park and is likely one of the more overlooked attractions generally.--Disney Skyliner is Closing for Maintenance in January 2024January 16-21 The line between Disney's Pop Century Resort, Disney's Art of Animation and Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort will be closed. On Tour 98, I am joined by Tour Guides Diane Whiting and Mindy Muir and together we compare the Port Orleans Resorts (Riverside and French Quarter) to Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort. We all have favorites and that comes through during the discussion. Our goal is to give you as much information as possible to help you plan your next visit to the Walt Disney World area. Disney's Port Orleans Resorts and Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort are both moderate-level resorts at Walt Disney World, but they offer different themes and amenities. Disney's Port Orleans Resorts consists of two separate but adjacent resorts: Port Orleans Riverside and Port Orleans French Quarter. These resorts are themed after the historic French Quarter and the antebellum South, respectively. The resort features lush landscaping, waterways, and cobblestone streets. The rooms are spacious, and some offer views of the Sassagoula River. Both resorts have multiple pools, and there is a scenic boat ride that connects the two. On the other hand, Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort is themed after the colorful islands of the Caribbean, with each island represented by a different section of the resort. The resort features white sand beaches, swaying palm trees, and a tropical village atmosphere. The rooms are bright and colorful, and some offer water views. The resort has multiple pools, including a large main pool with a pirate-themed water play area. In terms of amenities, both resorts offer similar dining options, including quick-service and table-service restaurants. However, Port Orleans Resorts has a more extensive selection of recreational activities, including fishing, bike rentals, and horse-drawn carriage rides. Caribbean Beach Resort, on the other hand, has a more extensive selection of transportation options, including the Disney Skyliner, which offers convenient access to Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios. In summary, both Port Orleans Resorts and Caribbean Beach Resort offer unique theming and amenities, and the choice between the two may come down to personal preferences. Port Orleans Resorts offers a more serene, Southern-style atmosphere with more recreational activities, while Caribbean Beach Resort offers a vibrant, tropical atmosphere with more convenient transportation options. Hello Tourists!! Tour 80 continues our journey around the Walt Disney World parks and nearby resorts with a trip around Disney's Hollywood Studios. This park has some really good options to suit just about everyone's need. Diane gives us a lot of excellent information to help us plan for our day in this park. We would like to ask you to send you prayers and well wishes to Mindy. She and her family have been facing some ongoing medical issues that are finally seeing some resolve. As a result, she may not be here much over the next several weeks. We appreciate it! Next week, we will tour the Hollywood Studios "area" resorts. Thanks to the Disney Skyliner, there is fabulous access to some nice out of the park experiences that allow us to expand our palette, and get some needed break time for the middle of our day. Until we meet again, friends... TTFN --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/matthew-wallace9/message

Pete, Vicky, and Jen discuss the new renewal information announced for Disneyland's Magic Keys program, including price increases, blockout dates, and other changes. Disney's Skyliner will be down for maintenance in late January 2023. Disney also announced three tours will return to Walt Disney World's EPCOT in October 2022, including the popular Behind the Seeds tour. N087 Season 8 of the My DVC Points Podcast was brought to you by: DVC Resale Market - Industry Leader in DVC Resales DVC Rental Store - DVC Point Rentals Monera Financial - Exclusively Financing DVC Contracts Patreon supporters in the My DVC Points VIP Producer Club. Magic Key renewal program announced Disneyland has finally announced the renewal program for their magic key program, the equivalent of an annual pass in Florida. Some changes are being made as well as a pretty hefty price increase. The top tier program “Dream Key” is being replaced with an “Inspire Key”. This pass has a black-out dates from December 21st to January 1st, leaving no passes available for Christmas holidays. The pass price also went up $200 to $1,599 per person, though photo pass has now been added to all passes and a 20% discount on Genie+ was added to this as well as the “Believe Key”. The other Key levels remain the same, with the Believe Key price now at $1,099, which is a $150 increase. The Enchant Key went up $50 at $699 and Inspire Key for local residents at $449 also went up $50. Magic Key first became available on August 21st, 2021 - and renewals began on August 18th, 2021. Key holders will be allowed to renew up to 30 days after the expiration of their pass. And this is important - When you renew, you can choose to stay at your current pass level or choose any other Magic Key that might be better for you. However, note that there will be no new Magic Keys sold at this time, only renewals. AND, due to the popularity of certain keys, any key may sell out at any time. It's possible that a key may not be available during your renewal period (but you'll still be able to select another available Key). So essentially you are guaranteed to be allowed to renew - but NOT guaranteed to get the same pass you currently have. Source: Disneyland Website and Micechat Disney Skyliner to be down for maintenance January 2023 From January 22-29, 2023, Disney's Skyliner will be unavailable while routine maintenance is performed on the transportation system. It is unlikely that the entire Skyliner route will be closed for this 8-day span; rather portions of the line will likely be unavailable for several days while the rest of the system continues to run. Since there are three separate spurs, it is likely that one or more of those spurs may be scheduled to close for 2-3 days while the other routes continue to transport guests. The exact maintenance schedule will not be known until closer to January. Source: Walt Disney World Website, DVCNews EPCOT Tours to return There are three more reasons to visit EPCOT with the return of fan-favorite tours from the Enchanting Extras Collection beginning October 2, adding to and completing the previously announced lineup of highly popular tours returning to Walt Disney World Resort. Returning tours include the Behind The Seeds tour at Living with the Land: This one-hour walking tour gives you an up-close and personal view of amazing plants, insects and fish throughout four state-of-the-art greenhouses. Second, with EPCOT Seas Adventures – DiveQuest guests once again can dive right into this 5.7-million-gallon saltwater environment and immerse themselves into the sea life surrounding the coral reef. This experience offers SCUBA-certified guests guaranteed calm seas, unlimited visibility, no current and incredible marine life. Finally, EPCOT Seas Adventures – Dolphins in Depth, allows guests without SCUBA certification the chance to meet the bottlenose dolphins at The Seas to learn about their complex undersea behavior and talk with the experts who work with them every day. What's it Like to Visit Walt Disney World Right Now?Walt Disney World is pretty much back to normal in many ways. Masks are a thing of the past. In fact, we felt like the only guests wearing masks at all. We still required a negative Covid test to board a plane home, so we had to be extra careful (although this mandate for Canada is set to expire on April 1, 2022). It's very rare to see a mask on guests at Walt Disney World, except on monorails and buses, where they are still required (although we feel that this mandate won't be here for much longer. As Walt Disney World continues to emerge from the pandemic, there are still some things that are catching up. For example, there are not boats running from Disney's Contemporary Resort. This is because Disney World lost a large number of boat captains over the pandemic and they are currently trying to hire and train new captains as quickly as possible. On a related note, we were told that the SeaRaycer mini speedboats would not be back. Apparently, the boats sat around for too long over the pandemic and simply got gummed up and required too much service to make the fleet worth keeping. We don't believe they will be replaced based on our discussions with Disney Cast Members. Is Lightning Lane Better than FastPass+?In short, no.Disney's Genie + and Lightning Lane make visiting the parks at Walt Disney World much more challenging and frustrating versus previous methods of FastPass and FastPass+. We share full details in the episode, along with some tips and tricks for how to make the most of the current Lightning Lane and Individual Lightning Lane.Disney World Rides and Attractions Continue to Experience DowntimeConsistent with what we had been hearing before this visit, many Disney rides and attractions continue to experience more downtime than was previously "normal" for Walt Disney World. Once again, we believe that this is due to staffing challenges and hopefully this will be remedied once Walt Disney World returns to more robust Cast Member staffing levels. This was particularly noticeable on things like the Disney Vacation Club Moonlight Magic Special Event. When you only have three hours in a park (in this case, Epcot), having Ratatouille down and Spaceship Earth down and Frozen Ever After experiencing issues etc., it's not a good thing. It led to longer lines at the few attractions that were open and overall was a poor experience as a result. In other Disney Travel News...Connections Café Will Be the New Home of Starbucks at EPCOTThis spring, Connections Café will become the new home of Starbucks at EPCOT. Like other Starbucks locations throughout Walt Disney World Resort, this Starbucks will be designed to fit the theme of its surroundings. To make way for Starbucks to move to its new location in World Celebration, Traveler's Café in World Showcase will close this spring. Facemask Requirement Dropped for Disney SkylinerAs of March 16, face coverings are now optional for fully vaccinated guests on the Disney Skyliner. Face coverings will also be optional for fully vaccinated guests on Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. At this time, face coverings remain required by all Guests (ages 2 and up) on monorails and Disney buses.Thank You for Listening to the Disney Travel PodcastThank you very much for listening to this episode, Amelia and I hope that you enjoyed it. For over five decades, it has been so much more than a vacation destination, but has become a living storybook wherein we find ourselves at the center of the tale. Inside every chapter is an epic journey portending to unfold. On every page we find an invitation embossed with each of our names, inviting us to chart a course for adventure. A magic carpet ride, perhaps, or aboard a pirate ship bound for Neverland…oh, the wondrous places we'll go! All around us, we encounter intricacy and intentionality in every moment - a testament to the innovative minds who have brought these stories to life, spurred on by their sovereign ethos that it's kind of fun to create the impossible. Here, the philosophy is this: that the only thing standing in the way of your dreams becoming your reality is your own imagination. Today, we invite you to set that imagination free and come along with us as we carry our dreams to new heights. Climb aboard your very own chariot in the clouds and be Here With the Magic - we're taking to the skies and setting sail aboard the Disney Skyliner! Rising high above the waterways and pavilions of EPCOT's World Showcase, our journey begins with a peek into the romantic courtyards and elegant gardens of beautiful France. Soaring over the world-renowned Gusteau's, we can almost smell the fluffy, sugar-dusted crêpes and nutty fromage wafting from Chef Remy's kitchen. Up, up, and away we go, waving a wistful “Au Revoir” to charming Paris. After a quick little jaunt above the pastel whimsy and swinging ragtime of the Boardwalk, we find ourselves at once in the heart of Walt Disney World. From way up Here, we can spot the temples and clocktowers of World Showcase gliding past alongside our gondola, a curious collection of international treasures reaching toward the heavens. The geodesic shell of Spaceship Earth glints in the bright sunlight, striking and futuristic against its more historic counterparts at EPCOT Center. (7:05) In the distance, a majestic kingdom looms larger and larger as we approach, stunning and regal against a brilliant blue sky. Disney's Riviera Resort, a celebration of the azure coasts of Italy and the opulence of the South of France, this European seaside retreat is a feast for the senses and a joy to discover. Lavish with luxury and an escape into our most rose-colored wanderlust daydreams, the sparkling lagoon and wrought-iron balconies that surround this place are breathtaking to behold. And although we're just passing through, our excitement for what other wonders we might encounter as we continue on our journey blooms with every second. (8:47) Onward we sail, ascending skyward once again. This time, we're trading in the opulence of the Riviera for the laid-back vibes of the Caribbean. Nestled in a lush, tropical wilderness and bordered by silken, white-sand beaches, the quaint island hideaway of Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort burst with vibrant color and vivid life. Here, each charming village is enrobed in shades of turquoise and aquamarine, coral and sunshine yellow. The steel drum sounds of the tropics and the easy, breezy atmosphere seem to enliven our spirit even as we drift above - a quiet moment of joy above the sweet serenity of our own Caribbean oasis. While we could happily prolong this island interlude, our Skyliner convoy has landed in the Hub, where we are promptly whisked away once again to new, fantastic points of view. This time, we're headed along Hourglass Lake on a grand circle tour of some larger-than-life childhood memories to inspire nostalgia for all ages. (10:31) At Disney's Pop Century Resort, the sock hops and Walkmans which brought music and laughter to each distinctive decade are preserved in a living time capsule. An escape to a simpler time, the retro feel and novelty shapes and colors make this an unforgettable place to discover. Every moment Here exudes reminiscence and fun; a chance to experience the joys of generations and find Magic in the fabric of our yesterdays. And as we sail through time, back to yesteryear, we find our gaze wandering across the lake to Disney's Art of Animation Resort. Here, we find concept art and sketches from some of our favorite Disney stories practically springing off the page. From the Pridelands and Route 66 to a plunge Fathoms Below into the Big, Blue World of Nemo, Ariel, and all those beloved Under the Sea friends, this is a place that captivates the young and the young at heart, bringing fairytales and adventures to life in truly spectacular ways. Humming a Hakuna Matata tune all the way, we bid a fond farewell to our redolent memories and allow our escort to return us to the hustle and bustle of the Skyliner terminal, but only for a moment. Once again we careen into the clouds aboard our airborne carriage, this time heading for all the glitz and glamour of Tinseltown and the gleaming black spires of Galaxy's Edge. (17:00) Away we go, into the blissful blue and off toward the marquees and marvels of the golden age of Hollywood. Sound stages scattered across film lots and the ornate exterior of the incomparable Chinese Theater are visible just ahead, and the shadowy outline of the Hollywood Tower Hotel looms at the end of Sunset Boulevard, intriguing and foreboding in equal measure. Although our excursion into this bustling young movie town is a brief and round trip affair, the exhilarating energy of this place is palpable even from the sky. A glimpse into the Hollywoodland of Walt's early career, there is joy and anticipation wrapped in each and every moment. (22:05) Still, we've got one final leg of our journey to complete, and our cortège is already gliding back into the station once again before we are revived from our Golden State reverie. Soon we find ourselves yet again greeted by the postcard panorama of the Riviera, picturesque and perfect as we left it before. Before we know it, the tapered zenith of the Tour de Eiffel is growing larger as we descend into the International Gateway, bringing our Skyliner journey at an end at last. Where we'll go from Here, well, that's a story that is still unwritten. Whether we soar through the skies or sail along crystalline waters or let our own two feet lead the way, there is unlimited Magic for those willing to make the journey. Each step is one in the right direction where imagination is our guide and joy is our companion. It is the journey, after all, and not the destination, which fill the pages of the most magnificent stories. From tales of travel to faraway lands to gambles down rabbit holes and into the wonderland of our cherished memories, it is that first spark of inspiration which leads us down new paths, intuition mingling with curiosity and leading us into a world of Magic that we can return to time and time again. It is the journey that evokes the most powerful memories. Being Here, surrounded in the skies by invigorating joy, we feel emboldened to say yes to new adventures, to keep moving forward. Onward, ever onward, we know that each and every moment will be filled with wonder, with sights and sounds and stories to lift us up when we feel low, and with Magic to bring us to our happiest places whenever we summon the spirit of our imagination and take to the skies.

Get ready for the news and bring your own punchlines,it's time to hit the trail with the Gold Key Adventurers Society! News: Disney's Magical Express and Extra Magic Hours at Walt Disney World Resort to be retired http://bit.ly/EMHRetired http://bit.ly/DMERetire2022 Paris to become even more beautiful with Champs Elysees refurb http://bit.ly/ChampsElyseesRefurb Harbin, China Ice and Snow Festival http://bit.ly/HarbinSnowFestChina Great Boston Molasses Flood, Courtesy of Atlas Obscura http://bit.ly/MolassesAO Coober Pedy, Australia's underground opal mining town, courtesy of Atlas Obscura http://bit.ly/CooberPedyAO That's right Dan. Courtesy of ThemeParkProfessor.com, first we have a report that Disney's Magical Express shuttle service will be retired starting January 1, 2022. Here's Disney's official statement: ““Vacationers have more options to choose from than ever for transportation, including ride-share services that save time and offer more flexibility to go where they want, when they want. In light of this shift, when Disney Resort hotel bookings open for stays in 2022, we will no longer offer Disney's Magical Express service for airport transportation, starting with arrivals Jan. 1, 2022. We will continue to operate the service for new and existing reservations made at Disney Resort hotels for arrivals throughout 2021. Additionally, complimentary transportation options – such as buses, monorails and Disney Skyliner – will continue to be available within Walt Disney World Resort for Disney Resort hotel guests, including to and from all four theme parks.”- Disney Parks” Roger Chapin, a spokesperson for Mears transportation, the company that provides the buses for Disney's Magical Express told Orlando's Spectrum News that ““Walt Disney made us aware of their decision. While we are disappointed Disney will no longer offer this service, we intend to continue offering transportation services between the airport and all area theme parks and hotels to meet the demand of our visitors now and in the future.” In other Walt Disney World news, Extra Magic Hours have officially been retired at the Florida theme parks. In a statement, Disney reps said “Disney Resort hotel guests and guests of other select hotels will be able to enjoy more fun with 30-minute early entry to ANY theme park, EVERY day. It'll be a great way to get a jump start on your Disney day, no matter the day! he new early theme park entry benefit helps us better spread visitation across all four theme parks, while providing added flexibility by giving guests extra early park time on each day of their vacation and in the park of their choosing. Please note that guests need valid admission and a park reservation made via the Disney Park Pass system to enter a theme park.” While it sounds like these are monumental losses to the Disney experience, it's really not all that bad, and there's still a world of reasons why staying on site at a Disney resort hotel is a great value. There's a lot to be said for staying inside the “Disney bubble”, where you don't have to leave the magic when you're done playing in the parks. Transportation between hotels and the theme parks is much more convenient with Disney's complimentary internal transportation system, and makes it easy to take a mid day break when the sun is hottest and the parks are most crowded. The resort hotels themselves have a ton of great options for dining and activities to keep you busy and entertained, including biking, fishing, great pools, kids activities, painting and craft opportunities, tours, movies under the stars and in the pools, world class food and beverage options, you get the point. While Disney's Magical Express will be missed for its value and convenience, there's still great options for getting to your hotel if you don't want to rent a car. While there's not a lot of details yet, as I mentioned Mears appears to be planning some sort of shuttle service to the resorts. You can also get a lyft or uber from the airport for a reasonable rate. The Brightline Rail system connecting Orlando International Airport to Disney Springs is still slated to open in 2023. Better yet, you can let someone else worry about transportation for you- your friendly travel planner at Key to the World Travel can help book a car service to and from the airport for you to make sure that you don't miss any details and everything goes smoothly. Yeah, we're going there. We wanted to find out which theme park attractions are way over rated, and which ones deserve more love than they typically get. And we invited Dave along, so be warned-you'll probably violently disagree with at least one thing he says. Don't at us, bro-take it up with Dave! First the news, where we discuss the recent reopening of the Disney Skyliner transportation system, menu changes at Star Wars Galaxy's Edge, and some more strange AirBnB offerings in what just might become a new regular segment of the show. I don't want to ruin the main discussion segment for you- it's more fun waiting to find out which column we put all your favorite attractions and restaurants into. But do make sure you stick around until the end of the show for details on how you can win a free trip to Walt Disney World Resort courtesy of Key to the World Travel and Theme Park Professor in their Disney Do-Over Sweepstakes.
