The first book in the series is Path of the Dead. Arthur Nakai is an ex-marine and ex-member of the Shadow Wolves, an ICE tactical unit recruited by the US Government to hunt human traffickers and drug smugglers on the US/Mexico border as part of Homeland Security. GoodReads reviewers gave it a rating of 4.02 with 73% of ratings being 4 or 5. One review wrote: Path of the Dead is a well written and fast paced suspense thriller which will take you through some of the most beautiful and rugged country in the United States. I thoroughly enjoyed this book for the wonderful main characters, the imagery of the locations, and the American Native culture. Another wrote: I read Tony Hillerman's Leaphorn and Chee books for years! When I saw a brand new author with a story about Native Americans I jumped right in! I was not disappointed. Full of great characters, this author brought this story to life. Finally another wrote: I really liked that the book is not your usual serial killer thriller. First you are in a part if the U.S. that isn't normally featured in books. Second, it features native Americans in a positive and enlightened way. Third, it is very well written with enough description to bring life and feeling without it being too wordy and dry. The third book in the series, When Silence Screams, came out in 2021 and more stories are in the works. You can find more information on Mark and his work on his website

While Arthur Nakai is attending a wake for a man he considered a brother with whom he served in the U.S. Marines, he receives a call from an old friend whose sons have just been murdered. Arthur soon finds himself involved in the multi-billion-dollar world of the oil and gas industry. He faces an old adversary from when he was a member of the Shadow Wolves, an elite tactical unit within US Customs and Border Protection. Now that same adversary runs a heavily armed group of sociopathic men who are paid to keep the oil rigs and gas wells secure from protesters. Can’t let anything stop big business from getting access to all that reservation land – so what if fracking poisons Native Americans’ water supply and further fractures their community? Death Waits in the Dark (Blackstone Publishing) is Book 2 in The Arthur Nakai Mysteries. Mark Edward Langley was instilled with a love for the American West by his father. After many visits, his connection to the land and its people became irrevocable, but he was appalled at the way he saw Native Americans being treated. After spending almost thirty years working in the corporate world, he retired at the end of 2016 and began to focus on realizing his goal of becoming an author. He created a strong, competent Navajo protagonist, a U.S. veteran who fights for his people and their land. Langley’s first novel, Path of the Dead, was released in August of 2018. He and his wife, Barbara, live in Indiana and split their time between there and the American southwest where he loves to ride horses. In his novel The Shadow Wolves (Page Publishing, 2019), Jake Kaminski tells the story of Ethan Crowe, a Lakota Sioux tracker who spent a career with the Delta Forces and the Defense Intelligence Agency. Crowe's story begins in the hellish nightmare of Bosnia, where as a young scout for a Ranger company, he and two other Native Americans help track down the Skorpions, a Serbian militia committing genocide on the local populace. The action shifts to the present and the southern border of the United States. Powerful Mexican cartels are utilizing vast stretches of the border to send billions of dollars in illegal drugs into the US. Powerful drug lords preside like kings over their empires, secluded and untouchable in their remote mountain fortresses. Killing fields are being found on both sides of the border. Homeland Security needs a solution. General Darren Evans has been asked to form a special team of Native American trackers to combat the cartels where they are most vulnerable in the Arizona borderlands. The group is to be called the Shadow Wolves, and General Evans knows exactly the man to lead them. Crowe is lured out of retirement to the Arizona desert. An elite team is born, comprised of tough, dedicated Native Americans from tribes across the United States. Within the new team are two remarkable Apache women--fierce warriors who will become the soul of the Shadow Wolves. They will battle the vicious Zetas, moving through the desert landscape like ghosts. A mysterious figure sits on the throne of the Zeta cartel. Known only as Yaotl, he claims pure Aztec blood. He lives by his own rules in complete disdain for the laws of the West. A gruesome series of murders and the discovery of twenty young girls being sold in the desert set the stage for a confrontation between the feared Zetas and the Shadow Wolves. The Shadow Wolves will follow a blood trail that takes them all the way to the corridors of power in Washington, DC. Kaminski puts you inside the world of the dreaded Zeta Cartel and the heroic indian Trackers know as Shadow Wolves Learn more about your ad choices. The country's in dire straits indeed, even when not listening to Dire Straits, and it's clear that only two men are literarily capable of breaking down the situation and empowering the masses with knowledge bullets to fell their foes, and those men are ... second-or-maybe-third-tier action protag dude Steven Segal and his pal (?) Tom Morrissey, who wasn't in any movies with DMX. For this roughest of rides, only one man could show up and help us through the deep thickets of paranoid dog-whistling about a version of the Deep State (sic) that lurks just beyond every border, and also in our nation's capital, and also in TV stations and we could go on like this for some time, but luckily (?) Messers. Segal and Morrissey have gone ahead and gone on like that for us, and that man? Why, it's Jeb Lund! Somehow, we make it through a couple hundred pages of magnificently clunky prose, pseudo-positive stereotypes bashing against horrifyingly offensive ones, head shots, manly banter that's torture to read, snake-heavy torture scenes, and more glancingly mentioned right-wing conspiracy theories than was probably healthy. But it's all fun, we promise. So if you're ready to step into the shadows and enter a state that's most deep, please: join us. Keep in touch with Jeb's work here, and listen to his rad podcast, which just may soon feature a guest spot from some fellas you know, here!     Recommendations: Tad Friend, "Jumpers" Modris Eksteins, Rites of Spring: The Great War and the Birth of the Modern Age Judith Shulevitz, "Forgotten Feminisms" series at the New York Review of Books Inspector Morse: Endeavour, BBC Music: "Work the Angles" by Dilated Peoples "Apache Rose Peacock" by Red Hot Chili Peppers "Cherry Coke" by Karate

Howdy, everybody! This week starts out with a (literal) bang as we discuss a security guard who walks into a 7-11 with gun a-blazin to prevent an attempted robbery. After that, we talk about our new favorite airline, Delta. They've decided to take matters into their own hands and make it harder for people to fly with fake support animals!!!!! Finally. Someone's taking a stand. We then delve back into Seagal's work of fiction (we didn't know it was fiction when we discussed it a few episode's back), the Way of the Shadow Wolves. We even read some GLOWING Amazon reviews. To keep it fair and balanced, we then do a story that involves Jean Claude Van Damme. Apparently, he did something that made him break into tears recently. We then do a quick fight round-up and discuss Saturday night's Bellator and UFC fights. O'Neill discusses a story of a a 19 year old college student making and then posting some racist videos. After that winner, we move on to more winners who are taking part in the Tide Pod Challenge. Who doesn't like the taste of detergent??? It's the new ice cream. We move on to discuss a man punching a police horse, a smelly woman we used to deliver food to, and a morbidly obese couple who lost weight and had sex for the first time in their eleven year relationship. Danish also shares an embarrassing blunder he committed at the Y.
