Tread Perilously's wandering in the time loop brings it to Person of Interest and an episode called "If-Then-Else." When the team must stop Samaritan's manipulation of the stock market, they end up pinned down in the New York Stock Exchange building. The Machine must work out a scenario that will allow them to complete their mission and escape. It starts running simulations that, by necessity, must be rest. With the microseconds winding down, will it conclude that the only way to win is to sacrifice the assets? Or will a random day in 2003 prove its creator taught it empathy? Erik is astounded to support a benevolent AI. Justin finds the whole thing difficult to take on board and realizes this show is not Numb3rs. The Cavortex enters the proceedings, which leads to extra analysis of the star's performance. Amy Acker, Sarah Shahi, and Micheal Emerson, meanwhile, prove to be MVPs. Justin claims Terrence Malick is Erik's favorite director ... which leads to a story. The pair determine what happened to Elias Koteas. They also keep coming up with actors who would've been better as the lead. Time proves to be Person of Interest's greatest foe. Gary is becoming an endangered name and Erik names the best AI on television.

This week we are dodging both serial killers and potentially God while we discuss “Improbable”! We're talking the strangely Italian everything about this episode, how much we adore Ray McKinnon's scowl, Burt Reynolds' charm, the lengths Robert Patrick will go to to avoid being in a silly scene, the probably sarcastic clapping circle for Reyes, and the forty-second shot where we all have to pretend Arlene Pileggi is Gillian Anderson. They thought we wouldn't notice! We derail for a while and try to figure out what NUMB3RS is about, throw tomatoes at all the bad lip-syncing, talk about how important it is for serial killers to name themselves, and feel a ghost walk over our graves about a terrifying deleted scene. We all dodged a bullet.Send us an email at scullynationpod@gmail.com or follow us on Instagram!

Patronato do SciCast: 1. Patreon SciCast 2. Apoia.se/Scicast 3. Your TSHE hosts have busy lives! So this week we're re-airing a true classic! Enjoy all of the deep Numb3rs, Castle, Bones discussions. We really covered Cop/Not Cop well! Also, let us know what you think of the new guest hosts at the beginning. Personally, we think they could work on their professionalism, but they're entertaining! At long last, Ann, Bobby and Hillary tackle the questions that have been on everyone's minds (and in the TSHE tickler file) for months now: What is (and isn't) a cop/not cop show, and more importantly, what—based on strict scientific criteria and rigorous research—are the best and worst cop/not cop shows? You'll know we weren't trifling when you see this episode is 2.5 hours long. Also discussed: The Word of the Day, a listener's (extremely welcome) cat pictures, the form-over-function failings of fondant, Hillary's hot takes on last week's Soderberghian Oscars, Bobby's myriad life updates after a couple of weeks away, and the deeply upsetting things Ann has seen in the bowels of Southdale Center.Connect with the show! This is your show, too. Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman, marking my 94th episode of VideoFuzzy, reporting the progress I've made in cataloging thousands of VHS transfers and digital recordings, and with this installment, titled "Into Every Generation," I celebrate seven years of doing so. Helping to mark the occasion, in my Fuzzy Feature I chatted with longtime friend and friend of the pod Marc Bailey, also known as Grailwolf, to talk about the 1992 release of Joss Whedon's "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," the FX presentation of which turned up on disc 1604 in my classic collection. We talked about the movie, the TV series it gave rise to, the spinoff of "Angel" and the comic series, as well as other Whedon projects, and farther reaching ramifications of the production. In honor of this film turning up in my cataloging project, I have expanded the mystical center of my media collection to include Joss Whedon productions, in my newly renamed Joss Under Murph Studios Challenge, linking shows in my collection through "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip," "Six Feet Under," Ryan Murphy productions and/or Joss Whedon productions. A few connections become quite a bit clearer and just make more sense with the acknowledgement of this expansion, which suggests it was a de facto center all along. In Cross Connections I explore some of the impacts of this expansion, certainly through my Fond Reflection farewell to the movie Buffy's Watcher character Merrick, played by Donald Sutherland. I trace other connections through "Criminal Minds," "The Closer," "NUMB3RS" and a two-part "Alice in Wonderland"-themed Syfy miniseries starring Caterina Scorsone titled "Alice." In my Classic VHS-to-DVD Collection, for this set covering discs 1601 through 1625, I talked about a significant second-season episode of "Rescue Me," a documentary recounting 40 years of the Broadway production of "Hair," the pilot epiosde of "Criminal Minds," Syfy's miniseries "Alice," and a bunch of episodes from "Arrested Devleopment," "South Park," "The Simpsons" and "24," alongside a bunch of music videos as well as the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards, hosted by ... oh. Sean "Puffy" Combs. In my Current direct-to-digital recordings, I talk about Pat Sajak stepping down form hosting duties on "Wheel of Fortune," podcaster Terry Geo's 2023 stage production of "Blink: A One-Man Gay Rom-Com," that link available here: https://bit.ly/45DbBeV and a spoiler-y look back at the first season finale of "Doctor Who," which I include at the very end of the show in case you're still avoiding spoilers. TOP TWELVE: Here's a "Top Twelve" episode guide for people looking for a quick read-in on this blog and podcast effort: https://videofuzzy.libsyn.com/about. Enjoy!
Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman, marking my 93rd episode of VideoFuzzy, reporting the progress I've made in cataloging thousands of VHS transfers and digital recordings. In my Fuzzy Feature, I talk about the two-part series finale of "Monk," which turned up in my cataloging efforts this time. In Cross Connections I traced ties through "Monk," "Fringe" and "Moonlighting," and highlighted Golden Thread connections with Larry Clarke and Sharon Lawrence. In my Classic Collection (VHS-to-DVD), cataloging discs 1576 to 1600, I found where I'd appeared on local noon shows promoting community theater, clip posted to VideoFuzzy's Instagram. Also, "Fringe" – both here and in my Current Collection – "Medium" "Monk," "Criminal Minds" "Prison Break" and "NUMB3RS" and animated shows like "American Dad," "Venture Brothers," "Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law" and "Tom Goes to the Mayor." I found some racy commercials and talk about the marketing concept of "floym." Plus, music videos (check out Jack Johnson's 2005 "Sitting, Waiting, Wishing" here: https://bit.ly/3WFdK7q) and episodes of "The Twilight Zone." In my Current Collection, I added a BUNCH of material this time including I already mentioned "Fringe" up there, I added seasons 4 and 5 to my collection, plus the entire series of "Moonlighting" and a couple different ties to "Medium" and "Fringe." Plus comments on "Feud: Capote vs. The Swans," "Spider-Man: No Way Home," "The Batman," Alanis Morrisette's recent turn on "Austin City Limits," and more from the new season of "Doctor Who." I close out with a couple unique productions. I explore the Indigo Girls' 1995 VHS release "Watershed: 10 Years of Underground Video" callback to sister podcast "VideoFuzzy the Soundtrack" Ep. 10: Caramia, some of the cool things I found there. Then my hubby, Ralph, and I recently took in the "Wheel of Fortune LIVE" production at Prairie Knights Casino and Lodge with cohosts Bob Goen and Daisy Wang and announcer Cody Dove, who was really leaning into that "Better Call Saul" credit. It was a great time and they put on a fun show. TOP TWELVE: Here's a "Top Twelve" episode guide for people looking for a quick read-in on this blog and podcast effort: https://videofuzzy.libsyn.com/about. Enjoy!

Idea: A gritty, realistic, HBO-style drama about an amoral social expert/negotiator/facilitator who works on contract to help solve problems for people or organizations, such as facilitating illegal commerce, helping a president avoid a scandal, helping someone get a date, etc. Also: avoiding the hacky network TV "genius protagonist" procedural format ("Lie to Me", "The Pretender", "Numb3rs", etc.) where the main character is too smart/powerful or making the main character's skill(s) relevant to each episode/plotline stretches believability; a backstory in which the main character honed his social skills in the mob but then the mob dissolved and so he went solo; the main character is like James Bond making witty comments at the Baccarat table but then there's no gunfight and everyone just peacefully walks away (like a Bond movie made in a world where movie violence isn't allowed); maybe the main character has almost supernatural social skills but can't get along with his family and repeatedly bombs at standup comedy open mics Niko Lukoff (linktr.ee/LaughYourLukoff) Justin Hicks (facebook.com/justin.hicks.92798) Skippy Rose (instagram.com/skippyrosecomedy youtube.com/@SkippyRoseComedy) Tom Walma (https://creativitywasted.com twitter.com/thomaswalma twitch.tv/gameymcfitness) This podcast is part of Planet Ant Podcasts (https://planetant.com) This podcast is powered by Pinecast.

David Krumholtz (Oppenheimer, Numbers) joins us this week to candidly share his experience overcoming thyroid cancer, the difficulties surrounding this disease while working in Hollywood, and how it was preceded by a nine month panic attack. Later, David talks about the validation he received from Christopher Nolan after landing a prominent role in Oppenheimer, his humbling first day on set, and a crazy story of how auditioning for this part evidently led to him becoming sober. We also talk The Santa Clause, pivoting on Numbers, and a horror story of a honeymoon. Thank you to our sponsors: ❤️ Betterhelp: https://betterhelp.com/inside

According to filmmaker and founder of the Identity Development Institute, Stephen Gyllenhaal, “The best instrument in the world is another human being.” In this episode, he and Thomas discuss the importance of resonance to trauma healing. Similar to attunement, resonance involves communication between nervous systems wherein our bodies transmit our pain to others within a safe and open environment. This is also the basis for the Intention Method (IoPT) sessions that changed Stephen's life and inspired him to start training others in this unique methodology. He explains that early traumas make positive change and evolution difficult, and how being present in connection with others has allowed him to experience profound healing. He and Thomas also discuss how the art of cinema is a form of resonance, and the themes of galactic resonance that are explored in his upcoming documentary, The Universe Sings. Key Points: 00:45 Movies as an expression of trauma 06:54 Trauma travels generations 11:24 Healing requires digging at the core 18:45 The human being as an attuned resonator 24:52 Resonance is presence 28:36 Film and TV representations of trauma 37:18 How media creates spaces for conversation 41:46 The way to trauma healing Stephen Gyllenhaal is a film director, poet, and Founding Director of the Identity Development Institute, which aims to grow a community of practitioners, researchers, and educators that integrate trauma in facilitating healthy identities. He is well-known for directing movies, such as “Film Spies” and “Waterland”, and several episodes of hit TV shows, “Numb3rs”, “The Mentalist” and “Twin Peaks.” Sign up for updates by visiting our website:

Prophecy Radio episode #76 dives into the late Lance Reddick's body of work, where we talk about his most iconic roles and which of his movies we watched most recently. As always, we also catch you up on all the latest Riordanverse news, including some updated information for the The Sun and the Star tour with Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro. Lastly, we continue our journey through The Kane Chronicles with The Red Pyramid chapter 3. Remember, we're keeping this discussion spoiler-free! New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and updates (00:03:29) Read Riordan has a women's history month spotlight on Gaea. This is your reminder that tickets for the NYC stop of the Sun and the Star book tour are now available. And if you can't see Mark Oshiro on tour for TSATS, be sure to find them on tour for Into the Light. Becky NEEDS you to listen to this Cinelinx interview with Roseanne A. Brown. There's a bit more news we're saving for next week, including a quiz and Rick's latest blog post. Lance Reddick (00:09:07) We talk about where Lance Reddick grew up and how he started off by studying music. The Yale School of Drama has had a lot of famous alumni at this point. Of course, Lance's breakout role was on The Wire, and we talk about how much we'd love to go back and watch it some day. And let's not forget Lost and Fringe. He also put out an album called Contemplations & Remembrances. We've talked a lot about his role as Charon, and also about his imposing presence and deep voice. That deep voice made made him the perfect choice for Commander Zavala in Destiny. Did you tear up when you read about how Destiny players saluted Zavala in the game on the day he died? Because we did. It's really too bad the Resident Evil Netflix show got cancelled. One of the best parts about digging through a prolific actor's IMDb page is searching for their forgotten roles. Did you know Lance made an appearance on The Nanny? Kristen didn't forget that he appeared in an episode of The West Wing. He also had several roles on various Law & Order and CSI shows—as do most actors these days. And let's not forget the throwback that is Beyoncé and Jay-Z's “03 Bonnie & Clyde.” If Karen gets the opportunity to talk about Numb3rs, she will. Can you guess which two roles Lance had within the Batman universe? It's time to talk about the Lance Reddick roles we were already familiar with. White House Down and Olympus Has Fallen kicked off two franchises that Lance Reddick has appeared in. And although Karen wouldn't recommend It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, you can see Lance on that show, too. Now it's time to talk about the two new Lance Reddick movies we watched for this episode. Karen heard good things about The Guest, but Kristen isn't sure how she feels about it. Monster Party is not for people who don't like body horror. Lance might not have huge role in either of these movies, but like most of his other portrayals, he makes an impact. We talk about all of Lance's upcoming, unreleased roles. What are we expecting and looking forward to in Lance's portrayal of Zeus in Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1? Watch the video of Lance talking about his role as Zeus. The Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid (00:58:58) This week, we're reading The Red Pyramid chapter 3. We're so excited that we get Sadie's perspective in this chapter! Why are the police treating these kids like criminals? What's with the icy chill down Sadie's back? Is that inspector evil? Is he in on what's happening? Despite her complicated relationship with her dad, Sadie always wears her necklace. Have you seen an ankh before? Why even bother telling adults the truth if they're not going to believe you!? We talk a little bit about the ongoing conversation around ancient artifacts and repatriation. Was the inspector being super racist toward Carter? Did Carter tell the inspector some sort of cover story, or did the inspector lie to Sadie? Would Thalia and Sadie be best friends, or mortal enemies? Feedback (01:18:03) Henry calls us out on expecting answers in chapter 3. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 77, which will be a random catch-up episode and will include a portion of an interview with Mark Oshiro about The Sun and the Star before tackling The Red Pyramid chapter 3. Azita Ghanizada is currently making her Broadway debut in "The Kite Runner" as Soraya, and is now the first woman of Afghan descent to originate a role on Broadway. As we learn, Azita's childhood life was far from ordinary and easy. Her family fled Afghanistan and ended up in the US as political asylum seekers. Similarly to what happens in “The Kite Runner”, she had trouble getting citizenship because she didn't have proper paperwork, including her birth certificate. She talks about growing up and learning how to speak English through watching tv shows and movies, which has also sparked her interest in acting. She shares how she pursued acting by buying a one-way ticket to Hollywood and ended up working at E! for a couple of years where she learned everything about show business. From finding a loophole in not getting jobs she used to get to being told she was white, Azita, together with other actors who joined her cause, successfully drafted a new SAG-AFTRA – AMPTP TV/Theatrical hiring contract for the first time in 37 years. She also talked about MENA Arts Advocacy Coalition, an organization she founded to support and educate. Azita reflects on the issues we still need to fight for such as inclusion, and why we have to create from our heart and operate from a place of truth and integrity. Azita Ghanizada is an Afghan American actress who began her on-air camera career as a commercial model. Her family fled Afghanistan to the US and were granted asylum to remain. She has appeared in numerous television series, including “How I Met Your Mother”, “Entourage”, “Veronica Mars”, “The Wedding Bells”, “NUMB3RS”, “Bones”, “Psych” and “Castle”. Her film credits include "Killroy Was Here", “Our Friend”, “We Broke Up”, “Draupadi Unleashed”, “Complete Unknown”, “X's & O's”, and “A Kiss on the Nose” where she received a film festival best actress nomination for her performance. She's the Founder and President of MENA Arts Advocacy Coalition, an organization she launched after helping build the MENA category into the SAG-AFTRA theatrical contracts. In 2020, she gave her first TEDx talk on the path to visibility in Hollywood. In addition to "Ballers," and Freeform's "Good Trouble," she's also got a recurring role on the CBS show, “United States of Al” and is currently performing in Broadway's "The Kite Runner" as Soraya. Adam Hamilton was raised in Shreveport, Louisiana, and began playing drums at the age of three. As a child, Hamilton began aspiring to a professional music career through listening to both his father's records and to the music on the radio. While attending Captain Shreve High school, he experimented heavily with production and engineering and produced demos for local bands in Shreveport. After graduating from high school in 1988, Hamilton moved to Dallas, Texas, and then to Austin to pursue music. While Hamilton was performing at a club in Austin, he met Poison guitarist C.C. DeVille, who invited Hamilton to move to Los Angeles. Hamilton lived in DeVille's home for a time, and played drums in DeVille's post-Poison band The C.C. DeVille Experiment. Other members of this band included Joey C. Jones of 1980s glam metal band Sweet Savage, and Christopher Torak of Liquor Sweet. During the time they were together, The C.C. DeVille Experiment also went by the name The C.C. DeVille Experience. The band, minus DeVille, ended up leaving Los Angeles, relocating to Dallas and Shreveport, and renaming themselves Joey C. Jones and the Glory Hounds, with Hamilton's hometown friend Craig Bradford replacing DeVille on guitar. Joey C. Jones and the Glory Hounds released one self-titled album on Tony Nicole Tony (TNT) Records in 1993; the album featured songs written by C.C. DeVille and by Robin Zander and Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick. His production work includes many titles released by Cleopatra Records, including albums by Leif Garrett, Dale Bozzio of Missing Persons, Vanilla Ice, and George Lynch. Hamilton also produces and writes music for television, and his work has appeared on Family Guy, The Simpsons, The Osbournes, Six Feet Under, Saturday Night Live, Numb3rs, Gene Simmons Family Jewels, Bones, America's Got Talent, and many others.
