Inspirerend!
THEY'RE BAAAAACK. Not the Eurovision folks, we've never done Eurovision before. We can only do it once, it's a Netflix movie. But we ARE with Meg and Carla again! The BeWBs are back and we're sorting Carla's favorite movie in the whole world ever! Rachel had never seen it before and doesn't even know what Eurovision is, and Lauren only saw it once when it first came out, so Carla was the leader of this episode. I didn't mention Meg. Meg hates Lars. And also Meg and Carla are the ones fighting this episode, not Lauren and Rachel. Anyway, we sort Lars, Sigrit and LGBTQ+ icon Alexander Lemtov. But not the elves. Please don't stab us for this elves, you're unsortable. Anyway, this is unhinged. Ja ja ding dong. Please listen to this episode and watch this classic Will Ferrell comedy.

In this episode, Steffi and Aðalbjörn discuss the new Netflix movie "Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga." Eurovision is very popular in Iceland although they never won the competition. This year, Daði Freyr's Song Think About Things was tipped the favorite. Unfortunately, the song contest was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The movie follows Sigrit and Lars from the small town Húsavík. Together they go on a journey to win the famous song contest. Through the story, the film touches on several Icelandic cliches, myths, and insider jokes. Listen to the episode to find out: How well does the movie portrait Icelandic culture and society? What is Eurovision, and why is Iceland so crazy about it? Do Icelanders believe in elves? (Spoiler: Listen to a real-life elve story) And finally, does the movie deserve the hype? Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams star as two aspiring pop stars with the sole goal of representing Iceland in Eurovision. Directed by David Dobkin, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga both pokes fun and celebrates the annual show. As Lars, Ferrell delivers a familiar but entertaining performance. Backed by McAdams as Sigrit, they make a wonderful comedic duo. We highly recommend this film if you're looking for a goofy escape from our pandemic riddled lives. Never miss a review by subscribing. I just have to go ahead and admit I don't understand Will Farrell. I still like him but I don't get him. He is awesome at what he does, until he isn't. In the last 10 or so years he's way more isn't than is. He had a strong run with some great movies with a few bombs in between. If you look over his career and count the good verse the bad his good ones are about 1 in 4. So basically 25% of his movies are really good, and 75% range from iffy to horrible. I used to excuse his bad movies by saying he is fearless when it comes to comedy, and that he is not afraid to take chances. That is no longer an excuse. The great movies he made shows his potential, and it shows that he knows what is funny. Sadly this Eurovision thing is not going to be his comeback movie. The movie is based on The Eurovision Song contest they have every year. The movie opens up in 1974 in Husavik Iceland a small fishing village. Everyone has gathered to watch the contest. There is actual footage of Abba performing in the contest that they won singing Waterloo. A young boy named Lars is captivated by the show and vows to his friends and family that he is going to win that contest someday. He is joined in his adventure by a childhood friend named Sigrit. We fast forward many years and Lars, played by Will Farrell, and Sigrit, played by Rachel McAdams, are singing some crazy song called Volcano Man. Lars' dad played by Pierce Brosnan comes in and tells them to be quiet and tells Lars that he is wasting his life and not only has no chance to win the contest, but he will never amount to anything. Lars' entire life is devoted to winning that contest, and Sigrit's entire life is devoted to Lars. But alas, her love for Lars is not reciprocated. This is impressed upon us every time someone asks if they are brother and sister Lars replies “more than likely not”, and Sigrit says “absolutely not!” This is a running joke, which becomes endearing more than funny along the way. A series of events, and not their singing talent, gets them to the tryouts, where everything that could go wrong, does go wrong. But they manage to get to the finals via a weird stroke of luck. Which is one of the funnier moments in the movie. The movie is a really long 2 hours and 3 minutes. It's Rated PG-13 for crude sexual material and some violent images, along with language. I think when Farrell was writing this he envisioned Blades of Glory but it doesn't come close. First, not many Americans are familiar with the Eurovision Song contest. B. The actual contest is so over the top with elaborate costumes and such it is already a satire of itself. It would be like making a movie about the bad singers they used to show on American Idol. It's really hard to be ironic about something that is already ironic. There are a couple of huge production numbers that contain actual winners of past Eurovision competitions. The movie can't decide if Lars and Sigrit can sing or not. They are supposed to be horrible, but then they are not. Lars' terrible accent seems to come and go, and I'm not sure if it's on purpose or if he is just lazy and wanted to get it over with. I know I did. My Score: 2 Buds Learn more about your ad choices. A new study found men speed TWICE as often as women do. Researchers in the U.K. looked at over five billion miles worth of driving data. And they found men speed 94% more than women. So about twice as often. And young men are the worst: 17-year-old guys break the speed limit 130% more than women that age. It doesn't start to even out until we hit our 30s. O.J.'s Former Longtime Manager Produces Documentary Finally Revealing "Who Killed Nicole?" It was 26 years ago this month when the world was captivated by the white Bronco chase that eventually led to O.J. Simpson's surrender to authorities. “Who Killed Nicole: The Definitive Investigation” is a documentary that says forget everything you thought you knew about OJ and the brutal murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. This unflinching doc presents shocking new evidence and never-before-seen footage from an investigation 20 years in the making. Dave Bautista & Kristen Schaal star in this comedy, a poor outing that feels like the unholy offspring of “The Professional” and “Stakeout”. More proof that Dave Bautista's film career peaked with the Guardians of the Galaxy films. Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (Netflix) When aspiring musicians Lars and Sigrit are given the opportunity to represent their country at Eurovision, the world's biggest song competition, they finally have a chance to prove that their dream is worth fighting for. Will Ferrell, Rachel McAdams and Pierce Brosnan star in the new comedy based on the real European song contest. Think “Blades of Glory” meets ‘The Voice”, this is not Ferrell's best work. Irresistible Steve Carrell, Rose Byrne & Chris Cooper star in the story of a Democratic strategist who helps a retired veteran run for mayor in a small, conservative Midwest town.
