The starting point for all of our activities is political clarity. Only by building in quality will we succeed in building in quantity. But have we fully grasped all that this entails? Antonio Balmer leads off a discussion to shed fresh light on a familiar task we are all engaged in—the task of becoming Marxists. This leadoff was recorded at the 2023 National Congress of what was formerly Socialist Revolution. In July 2024, we will found the Revolutionary Communists of America. IMTV radio - Marxist ideas. Fighting for revolution.

Class struggle is back on the agenda in the USA. Workers at Amazon, Starbucks, Apple, and elsewhere are beginning to organise and unionise. Workers and youth are becoming increasingly radicalised - looking way beyond the Democrats and left-wingers such as Bernie Sanders, and are instead openly identifying as ‘communist'. These developments have important implications for the perspectives for world revolution. A mass movement of the working class in America, the biggest imperialist power on the planet, would send shockwaves across the globe. In this session, Dylan Cope discusses the militant traditions of the American working class, the industrial battles taking place today, and the prospects for revolution in the USA – the belly of the capitalist beast.

The question of how the US working class will create a party of its own—a class-independent, mass socialist party—has been a foremost concern of Marxists since the earliest beginnings of the movement, both in the US and around the world. Reactionaries have long pointed to the lack of a working-class party as an indication of “American exceptionalism” and the weakness of the class struggle in the land of McCarthy. Meanwhile, revolutionaries have tirelessly maintained that a mass workers' party is an objective historical step that must be achieved in order for the US working class to fight back effectively and reverse decades of lost ground in the class struggle. In this talk from the 2023 Montreal Marxist Winter School, Tom Trottier, editor of Socialist Revolution, discusses the struggle for a workers' party in the USA.

Since the fall of the Soviet Union, the U.S. and other imperialist countries have repeatedly declared that history is over, meaning that humanity cannot transcend the capitalist system, which is elevated as the pinnacle of human development. As Margaret Thatcher claimed “there is no alternative” to capitalism, and the best we can hope for is a kinder, gentler, and more “humane” form of it. According to the capitalist class, the fall of the Soviet Union demonstrated that “socialism doesn't work” and socialist revolution is foolhardy, so we shouldn't preoccupy ourselves with fighting for it. Despite this prognosis, socialist revolution is very much on the table in the U.S. and all over the world. As we are facing multiple existential crises for humanity and the planet, socialist revolution is not just possible, but an absolute necessity to ensure our collective future. Some on the left may be tempted to counter the Republican offensive by coming to the defense of CRT, or accepting its characterization as the innocuous study of systemic racism. Socialist Revolution recently held its US Congress. Comrades from every corner of the country met for a weekend of discussions and voted on the US Perspectives document. In this episode, John Peterson gives an updated recap of this discussion document, which draws a balance sheet of the profound transformation of the political landscape in the US and analyzes the major factors that are shaping mass consciousness today.  Read the full US Perspectives: bit.ly/usp-21.  Read a report of the National Congress: bit.ly/USIMT21.  Join Socialist Revolution: srev.org/join.

Will Nguyen is a member and advocate of Socialist Revolution, the US wing of the International Marxist Tendency (IMT), which aims to educate the world about socialism. With enough recruits, they hope to bring down the current capitalist world order in favor of a humanist, worker-controlled system that will uplift all people around the world. It's bold, but I believe you'll see why this mission is worth your while once you listen to Will. Will is also known online as The Star Trek Communist, and often uses the in-universe politics to explain how to improve our world, which I find deeply relatable as a Trekkie political junkie myself. Happy July 26th! Greg and Ian are joined by a new guest Carlos to discuss the dynamics and context of the #SOSCuba movement. We discuss the historical context of US intervention, terrorism, and strangulation of the revolution, and what the Cuban revolution has meant for the Island and the world. We also come up with our new favorite analogy: Detroit is the Cuba of the midwest- targeted for destruction for daring to stand up to the US and the Rich. It's a complex subject but remember, if you find yourself on the same side as the CIA, you might be doing it wrong. 0:00 Intro 4:50 #SOS Cuba and opening thoughts 14:30 Dynamics of US/Cuba Relationship: Colonialism 16:30 Dynamics of US/Cuba Relationship: Communism 23:40 Dynamics of US/Cuba Relationship: US Terrorism and Blockade 40:00 Dynamics of US/Cuba Relationship: Victories of the Revolution 44:33 Dynamics of US/Cuba Relationship: Cuban Internationalism 49:20 Deeper Dive on #SOS Cuba 1:09:00 Why Now? 1:20:00 Detroit is the Cuba of the Midwest 1:34:40 What is at Stake here? 1:47:15 Final thoughts and wrap up
