Sudip Bhattacharya joins us to unravel the post-Trump landscape of socialist strategy, wading through the murky waters of political transitions and internal leftist tensions. How can we nurture class consciousness and fight against anti-DEI rhetoric that threatens to strip away essential rights? Together, Sudip and I confront these urgent questions, examining the evolution of the Republican Party towards Western chauvinism and the unsettling alliance between tech oligarchs and Trump's agenda. As we navigate this complex terrain, we provide insights into the dissatisfaction among socialists with elite discourses on identity politics and misleading media narratives about the working class. Our conversation also dives into the challenges of maintaining unity within diverse organizations such as the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Drawing on personal experiences in union organizing, we emphasize the importance of staying focused on core objectives like job protection and workplace diversity, even when faced with ideological divides. Sudip shares anecdotes from a DSA town hall event, offering a firsthand look at the debates surrounding strategy and the need for both domestic and international perspectives within the movement. This dialogue highlights the importance of thoughtful public discourse and effective collaboration to strengthen class unity. Finally, we explore the broader implications of American foreign policy and the potential for global solidarity in challenging U.S. hegemony. By engaging with international perspectives, we uncover the impact of American political actions on global relations and the potential shifts in alliances. From understanding the complexities of radicalization to critiquing rhetoric-driven strategies, we underscore the necessity of addressing tangible issues that people care about. Join us for a compelling episode that navigates the intricate dynamics of socialist strategy and outreach in today's volatile political climate.Sudip Bhattacharya is a former journalist and will be focused on exploring race in the United States at Rutgers University. Step into the complex world of geopolitics as we engage in a provocative dialogue with Donald Parkinson from the Marxist Unity Group and Cosmonaut Magazine. Ever wondered how Aleksandr Dugin's perspectives on Vladimir Putin shift when viewed from Russia's internal lens? Discover the nuances of his book "Putin vs. Putin: Vladimir Putin Viewed from the Right," and how it provides clarity on Dugin's ideological leanings compared to his more globally recognized "Fourth Political Theory." We unpack the influences of far-right esoteric thinkers like Julius Evola on Dugin, his critical take on Putin and Medvedev, and the convoluted relationship he has with Nazi ideology, all while maintaining his Russian patriotism. We then scrutinize Dugin's admiration for Putin's centralizing strategies as outlined in "The 12 Labors of Putin." Find out how Putin's efforts to stave off Russia's disintegration, particularly in the Caucasus, and his suppression of ethnic separatism align with Dugin's vision. Our conversation spans from the federal structure of the Russian Federation to Putin's methods of curbing regional autonomy and disciplining oligarchs. We also delve into the intricate dance between Eurasianism and Islamism, and how Dugin selectively aligns with certain Islamist factions. This discussion paints a comprehensive picture of the ideological and geopolitical strategies at play within Russia. Finally, we tackle broader geopolitical ideologies, juxtaposing right and left strands of Eurasianism with insights from thinkers like Zbigniew Brzezinski and John Mearsheimer. We navigate the complexities of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East, the contentious "land back" movement, and the evolving nature of counter-systemic politics, including the rise of MAGA communism. Reflect with us on the future of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), and the critical need for a cohesive programmatic vision. TL;DR: All hammer and no sickle makes for fashy time In the first of a three part episode recorded in October-November 2023, Pete, Arjuna, and RoboG talk about Pete's ongoing involvement in Québec Solidaire, arguably the best left party in North America, as their election for co-spokeswoman approaches. He also discusses what happened to Cornel West's presidential campaign in the months after Thoughts From Montréal 2 came out, and spills some tea on a spinoff group of the Maine Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Is organized labor in the U.S. making a comeback? Over the last few years, unionization efforts have proliferated across the service sector, in Amazon, Trader Joe's, Starbucks, just to name a few. The movie and TV industry is facing rare, simultaneous strikes by writers and actors. By early August, more than 300,000 UPS workers may be on strike, which would be the largest private sector strike in the US in several decades. My guest this month is Eric Blanc, assistant professor of labor studies at Rutgers University. Eric studies strikes, new workplace organizing, digital labor activism, and working-class politics. He is also a longtime labor activist, currently serving as organizer trainer for the Emergency Workplace Organizing Committee, a collaboration of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and United Electrical Workers of America. Full disclosure: I am also a member of the DSA. Eric is author of, among other books, Red State Revolt: The Teachers' Strike Wave and Working-Class Politics (Verso 2019). His writings have appeared in journals such as Politics & Society, and also in The Nation, The Guardian, and Jacobin.Following my conversation with Nadia Kim last month about age and optimism, I wanted to talk to an early-career sociologist. Eric was recently a graduate student in Sociology at NYU, making him my youngest guest so far. I started out as usual by asking Eric for his take on whether we're living through especially dark times. Like Anna Branch in May, Eric takes the long view, even with regard to climate change.Given the current weather all over the world, I find Eric's optimism about climate change heartening, even as I am unable to share it fully. The wave of labor activism and the possibility of a large strike at UPS in a few weeks is indeed energizing. Eric's assertion of the need for sociologists to work with, and for, activist organizations echoes Nadia Kim's call last month. Our discussion of the larger political implications of labor activism for democracy in the U.S. was especially illuminating for me; it echoes my conversation with Cedric De Leon of the UMass Labor Center in February. Join me in August for a conversation with Prudence Carter, outgoing president of the American Sociological Association. Hope you have a good summer till then!https://ericblanc.orghttps://laborpolitics.substack.com/
Trevor Loudon exposes how communists and Marxists have taken over the state of Minnesota. The socialist takeover started many years ago, in 1905, when thousands of communists fled Finland and settled in northern Minnesota. This movement has been growing and influencing politicians and legislation ever since, with influential characters like Mark Ritchie and Paul Wellstone. Communist comrades have ties to the Labor Party, which is now Democratic–Farmer–Labor (DFL), and influence politicians at all levels of government, from city councils to the Senate and the governor's office. In addition to the many communist front organizations like the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), leftist groups have adopted Agenda 2030. They are pushing left-wing policies at every level throughout the state. This is why the Minnesota legislature introduces radical laws and imposes left-wing ideology onto culture. These policies are meant to advance communism in the Midwest. ⭕️ Watch in-depth videos based on Truth & Tradition at Epoch TV

Across the United States, over the last few years, democratic socialists have been running for office in numbers not seen for a century. The Bernie Sanders presidential campaigns may not have been victorious, but socialists have run for city councils, state legislatures, and even judgeships and won. In this special 90-minute audio documentary, Current Affairs talks to members of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) who have reached elected office about how they campaigned, why they won, and how they have been able to use the power of their office to advance a progressive agenda. This presentation is meant to inspire those who wonder how you can effectively change things without compromising your principles. It touches on questions like: What kind of backgrounds do socialists who make it to office come from? How do they pitch their political views to voters? How do you assuage the fears of constituents who are, for example, worried about violent crime? What are the first things that happen to you when you become a state legislator? How can coalitions function effectively? How does corporate lobbying actually work? What do you do if you're in the minority and can't pass legislation? What kind of opposition will you encounter from the "party establishment"? Can you actually succeed at meaningfully changing public policy? Local and state offices are extremely important, and more within reach than federal office, but their activities are often unknown to the average person. This program peels back the curtain and shows how the "sausage" is made in state government and how leftists can be effective there.Elected officials featured in the program:Sara Innamorato (Pennsylvania State Representative)Nikil Saval (Pennsylvania State Senator)Vaughn Stewart (Maryland State Delegate)Emily Gallagher (New York State Representative)Robert Peters (Illinois State Senator)Franklin Bynum (Houston Criminal Court Judge)A transcript of the full interview with Robert Peters was published in Current Affairs here.Edited by Tim Gray.

On December 2nd, the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA)'s National Political Committee declined to expel New York Congressman Jamaal Bowman from the socialist organization. This decision capped a weeks-long debate within DSA over how to respond to Bowman's “yes” vote on funding Israel's anti-rocket Iron Dome system and his participation in a recent J Street trip to Israel/Palestine. Beyond the specific issue of how DSA should respond to Bowman's divergence from the group's line on Israel/Palestine, the controversy highlighted broader ideological and strategic questions: What's the relationship between electoralism and the struggle for Palestinian rights? How should the left should relate to liberal Zionist groups like J Street? In this episode, Senior Reporter Alex Kane, Editor-in-Chief Arielle Angel, Assistant Editor Mari Cohen, and Fellow Dylan Saba discuss the Bowman debate and the questions it raises for the left. Co-hosts Will Beaman, Natalie Smith, and Maxximilian Seijo discuss recent critiques of the Sunrise Movement by influential members of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) on social media and in the pages of Jacobin Magazine. Problematizing the DSAers destructive zero-sum rhetoric regarding the allegedly correct “theory of change,” the gang suggests an alternative mode for organizational provisioning, rooted in neither the sovereignty of a dues-paying membership structure nor the sovereignty of “outside” donors. It is impossible to take part in an interdependent social organization that knows no externality because everyone is responsible to everyone else, whether inside or outside a particular organization. Misunderstanding inter-organizational dependence, the Superstructure co-hosts argue, has led these writers to accuse Sunrise of “social disembeddedness,” a reactionary charge with little basis in reality. In contrast, the Superstructure team proffers a self-consciously generative and analogical model of social coordination that opens organizational activity to diversity and difference. Eric Mann is in conversation with James Burke about lessons learned from the Just-Concluded New York City Mayor and City Council Elections: - On June 22nd, New Yorkers voted across the state in primary races New York City the largest city council in the U.S. (51 council members) voted to elected a new Mayor, new council members, borough presidents, District Attorney, and Comptroller - DSA and progressive/left groups worked from Buffalo to Brooklyn to elect socialist candidates aligned with Defund the Police, Green New Deal, and other key issues like social housing and funding for mass transportation - New York City voters experimented with Ranked Choice Voting which for the first time allowed voters to choose up to 5 candidates on their ballots - AOC and her affiliated PAC made key endorsements but failed to win the Mayor's race in which Eric Adams and former NYPD officer won on a campaign built on public safety - Progressive organizations put forward various slates of City Council endorsements, often overlapping in their endorsements. In some cases, as with the Working Families Party and the Democratic Socialists, an endorsement comes with different types of institutional support, from strategy consulting to volunteers to fundraising assistance. - The New York City Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), meanwhile, supported only six candidates in separate Council districts, concentrating resources on those who explicitly identify as socialists and noting that “12% of the City Council could be socialist.” Despite progressives losing the NYC Mayor's race in Buffalo, India Walton is on the path to becoming the mayor of Buffalo, New York – the first socialist mayor elected to a US city since 1960, when mayor Frank Zeidler of Milwaukee, Wisconsin left office. James Burke, a long-time organizer in Harlem who worked on city council races will offer his insights into the role of progressives trying to impact the electoral arena and answer Eric's and your questions.

GUESTBettina Johnson is a Chicago born and raised abolitionist organizer, Co-founder and current Steering Committee member of Liberation Library and on the Steering Committee for the AfroSocialists and Socialists of Color Caucus of the Chicago Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). She is also on the Steering Committee of Chicago DSA’s #DefundCPD Campaign, and Co-lead for the Training Committee of the Black Abolitionist Network-steered #DefundCPD CampaignOVERVIEWBrownTown invites Bettina Johnson to talk all things #DefundCPD campaign, nuances and strategies for abolitionist organizing, non-hierarchal structures, building responsive institutions, and training the newly politicized.Bettina begins by sharing her journey growing up in Chicago and finding her movement home in various organizations. The gang compares and contrasts their work and thoughts on abolition and broader "defund police" campaigns pre- and post-George Floyd uprisings before digging into the momentum theory of organizing--turning the energy and politicization of highly visible moments into sustainable movements. As Bettina notes, "we need as many people and as many entry points to start that [politicization] process that feels good for people." BrownTown and Bettina discuss various entry points into grassroots work and the non-hierarchal structures and autonomous actions that folks are encouraged to take within more current and common decentralized movements. Near the end of the conversation, the gang gets in the weeds about #DefundCPD in Chicago and other defund campaigns nation-wide naming the specific campaign goals as abolitionist steps and not a reformist reforms. However, they center nuanced inter-movement discussions about the role of "refunding" and what responsive institutions should and could like that that do not re-ify the harm of the prison-industrial complex under a different name.#DefundCPD educated, organized, and mobilized thousands of Chicagoans around the abolitionist demand to defund the Chicago Police Department on the heels of a global uprisings against state violence and white supremacy and for Black lives. Now, a campaign coming out of hibernation in April 2021, what lessons have we learned from 2020? Why is hibernation necessary for movement work? Building upon years, decades, centuries of work, what types of organizing strategies and tactics need we build on or alter in terms of autonomous coalition-building, trust in camaraderie, and exhausting all of our skills in our work towards liberation? Here's their take.--Follow Bettina on Twitter!Follow Liberation Library on their site, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.Follow Chicago's AfroSocialists & Socialists of Color Caucus via Linktree, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.Follow the #DefundCPD campaign via Linktree, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.--CREDITS: Intro/outro song Fuck Tha Police by NWA. What role has organised labour played in anti-racist and civil rights struggles, past and present? We look at recent actions by workers and unions as part of the Black Lives Matter movement, and the historic role of black workers' organisers and socialists in the US civil rights struggle. We also discuss the unfortunate presence in the US labour movement of “unions” representing the police, and what might be done to challenge that. This episode also features an excerpt of an interview with Robert Cuffy, a Guyanese socialist currently based in New York, where he's a public sector working and trade union activists. In 2018, after defeating a powerful corporate Democrat in one of the biggest political upsets in American history, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez became the most prominent progressive in the United States. In office, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez has proposed visionary policy, like the Green New Deal, and become famous for her willingness to challenge the status quo directly--a formidable poise she developed over more than a decade of experience in grassroots organizing. Ocasio-Cortez, who will turn 31 in October, is a politician with a long career ahead of her. As she cruises toward a second term, more than anything else, she has proven that it is possible to fight back against the moneyed political establishment and win. On the first episode of the second season of “Who Is?,” join Sean Morrow, host of “Who Is?,” as he talks with the journalist who first covered AOC’s longshot primary challenge, the volunteers who were with her from the start, and the activists fighting on the ground to propel the progressive movement forward. TWITTER: @KenzoShibata Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ClassTimePod/ Patreon: Patreon.com/KenzoShibata Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/classtime Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/classtime/ Via Brandyn Buchanan (MADSA DSA): Today, Councilman #khalidkamau resigned as chair of Metro Atlanta #DSA’s Executive Committee. In his resignation press release, khalid left out an incredible amount of information that people deserve to know. So we decided to take a few hours and lay out the details so people can make their own decisions about our collective character, and his. I’m writing this in my own voice, but this statement has the support of the entire Executive committee. The Background When we all came together in September, the press releases were really happy to note that we were the youngest and most diverse EC in the history of the chapter. Let’s just briefly talk about what that entails: It’s an EC of six people that featured two Black men (plus khalid, so three) and an indigenous woman. People of color are a voting majority here. We’re all working people on really low income, doing a tremendous amount of work to equip our members and comrades in Atlanta to fight racism, capitalism, and imperialism. So are we gonna do that with a bottom up democracy that listens to people, learns about their struggles and then engages in the fight with them? Or will it come from a “president” or “CEO” type that goes to nice dinners, makes political promises and then demands that the membership haul ass to make good on them? Councilman khalid is resigning from the chapter because he’s not getting his way on this central question of what we are: period. We are a member organization, not a PAC. Our over one thousand members are responsible for setting the political line of our organization. We’re happy to work with anybody with good will from across the political spectrum (obvious receipts to come), but people have to know what’s going on, know who we’re signing on with and give approval. When he discovered he couldn’t do all this in his style, by hisself, he jumped out. The Endorsement Process In his resignation statement, khalid makes a number of false statements about our endorsement process, and also levels an accusation that the EC blocked endorsements. Let’s dig into those. A member of the Local Electoral working group (and person of color!) submitted a resolution for our June general meeting agenda to reorient our electoral strategy towards #ClassStruggleElections. This resolution is cosponsored by over 40 members, including nearly every influential person of color in the organization. To give you some background, we currently have a two-meeting endorsement process, where candidates are expected to give a Q&A in one meeting and then members debate and vote whether to endorse in a second meeting. Read the rest here: https://medium.com/@heybrandyn/metro-... Councilman Kamau's initial post: https://medium.com/@khalidCares/black... The catalyst for this sad tale was me. I signed on to a mission that any undergraduate Sociology major with an understanding of the pathology of white supremacist thinking would have known was impossible. The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) have long been criticized as a toxic environment for women and people of color. After an exodus of organizers of color from 2016–2018, local DSA chapters in cities like New York and Chicago underwent transformations worthy of the organization’s radical reputation, diversifying the complexion of their leadership, electoral organizing and other outreach. However, some local DSA chapters continued doing the same thing, expecting different results. The Metro Atlanta Democratic Socialists of America (MADSA) has been one such chapter. In 2019, I was asked to give the Opening Speech at DSA’s National Convention in Atlanta. At the time, I was one of only three elected officials in the State of Georgia that openly-identified as a Democratic Socialist. MADSA was on its third chair of color in less than one year. Two Black leaders had publicly split with the chapter, criticizing MADSA as both racist and sexist. I would like to pause here to apologize to those two women. My male privilege blinded me to the seriousness of their allegations, and I was lulled into thinking that my celebrity as an elected official would propel me over the institutional barriers that previous leaders of color had faced. I allowed myself to be convinced that I was a magical negro who could transform a troubled institution. SHOW LESS

Labor Express Radio Interview: Marianela D'Aprile, member of the National Political Committee of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), discusses the “Bernie bump”. Both in 2016 and now again, in 2020, the DSA has seen massive increases in membership. As a result, the DSA has become the closest thing to a mass socialist party we have seen in the United States in at least 70 years. At the same time, the organization has worked to avoid the limitations that come with electoralism. Embracing a “class struggle election work” strategy that privileges movement building as much as winning elections. The DSA has also launched new partnerships at the national and local level with several unions. All these topics are discussed in the interview. Labor Express Radio Interview: Carl Rosen - General President of UE discusses how unions can and must organize a militant, bottom up worker fightback in response to the COVID-19 crisis. Jerry Mead-Lucero of Labor Express Radio interviews Carl Rosen, General President of United Electrical, Radio & Machine Workers of America (UE) about his recent article in In These Times magazine entitled “We Need the Labor Movement To Organize Worker Fightback in the Face of the COVID-19 Crisis”. Rosen layouts an agenda for organized labor to meet the needs clearly expressed by the working class in the explosion of self-activity we have witnessed in recent weeks with strikes, walk-outs, and other shop floor actions by both union and non-union workers alike disgusted with their bosses unwillingness to take the dangers of COVID-19 seriously. It is a bold call that includes partnerships with the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and other forms of progressive, democratic unionism we have not seen in generations in the labor movement in this country and points to the current moment as a potential turning point for organized labor and the U.S. working class. Greg, Brian, and Colin are joined by co-chair of the Seattle Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), Captain Maddie, to talk about the recent national DSA convention, Shaun Scott's primary win and campaign in the general, the extremely cool city council candidate (not at all a malleable shapeshifting extraterrestrial excavated from a tomb of Antarctic ice) Alex Pederson, and the Political Action Committee (PAC) money that backs him, and stories from the incredible talents showcased in Candidate Survivor.
We take a look at the National Convention of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Is it democratic?
Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) has mounted a massive disinformation campaign to fool the American voting public. Thousands of members are flocking to the rapidly growing organization. Many DSA members have also joined the Democratic Party, holding key positions in almost every state. Millions of voters have supported DSA candidates running as Democrats. Hundreds of DSA-supported candidates have been elected to county commissions, city councils, education boards, and state legislatures across the country. Two members, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.) and Rashida Tlaib (Mich.), have penetrated Congress. DSA-driven policies — Medicare for All (socialized healthcare), the Green New Deal, National Popular Vote, $15 minimum wage, illegal alien amnesty — are rapidly becoming Democratic Party policy. All this is possible because DSA has managed to convince the U.S. mainstream media and most of the public that they are harmless European socialists who don’t want communism. They want America to be more like Sweden or Norway, not like the Soviet Union, China, or Cuba. Read the article here!
Eric Blanc is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Oats talked with Eric about his recent book, "Red State Revolt: The Teachers' Strike Wave and Working-Class Politics" (Verso: 2019). No Borders Media News Roundup Podcast #2 featuring three anarchists: Kim Kelly (writer and organizer from New York City), Andrew from It's Going Down, & Jaggi Singh from No Borders Media. -> Listen to the podcast here: https://soundcloud.com/nobordersmedia/newsroundup091818 On this latest (September 18, 2018) No Borders Media News Roundup Podcast, we feature a conversation between three anarchist media-makers: Kim Kelly (writer and organizer from New York City), Andrew from It's Going Down, and Jaggi Singh from No Borders Media. We discuss Autonomous Disaster Relief in the context of Hurricane Florence, with reference to Hurricane Sandy (2012) and Maria (2017), and a breakdown of the colonial-capitalist exploitation of Puerto Rico. We explore a core topic of these news round-ups: Trump Resistance. We criticize the ruling class appropriation of resistance, and take a critical but open-minded look at the growth of social-democracy on the left in USA, with detailed reference to the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and the candidates they've supported, like Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez in New York City. We highlight ongoing examples of autonomous, grassroots resistance, including the Prison Strike, anti-fascist organizing, Occupy ICE actions, various teachers strikes, Indigenous Resistance to pipelines, and more. We get an update about an Occupy ICE comrade from San Antonio, Mapache, who stood up to neo-Nazi violence, as well as to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), but was recently deported to Mexico after a months long detention. We muse about the continued relevance of, and increasing interest in, anarchist ideas and practice. This includes the inside scoop on the recent Teen Vogue article on anarchism (written by our guest Kim Kelly). We finish up with a discussion about the necessity and importance of left-wing anarchist media in this current political moment. In Part 2 of the series “Nothing Natural About Capitalism,” Leah talks to Austin-based activist Ryan Rosshirt about permaculture design and the challenge of building a society that supports meaningful work. Like so many Americans, Ryan was jolted into political action by the rise of Donald Trump. He quit his desk job before the 2016 election to focus full-time on canvassing for social justice and environmentalist issues. At the same time, he discovered a passion for gardening; a small vegetable patch grew into the backyard microfarm where he’s producing a lot of his own food today. On this episode, Ryan talks about implementing permaculture principles to repair the ecosystem in his backyard. Also, he and Leah discuss the idea of “vocations,” the structural barriers imposed by capitalism that prevent people from enjoying meaningful work, and how the Austin chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is fighting business interests big and small to improve quality of life for workers.
Capitalism: Can't live with it, can't live without it! Or can we? And what is the connection between capitalism and what we eat, how we work, and who bears the impacts of climate change? For a lot of us, the ecological consequences of our economic system are clear: factory farming, algae blooms, pollinator decline, and the Trump Administration's evisceration of the EPA. What, if any, are the alternatives? In this two-part series, "Nothing Natural About Capitalism," the Starship Hothouse will boldly go where no gardening podcast has gone before, as Leah attempts to articulate some nascent ideas about how the design principles of permaculture, combined with the populist vision of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), might offer a ray of hope in these dispiriting times. In Part 1, Mike Moody, co-host of the Star Trek Discovery Pod (and the engineer of this show) interviews Leah about how she envisions a path between democratic socialism and environmentalism. Also, Leah tracks down one of her podcasting heroes, Chenjerai Kumanyika, co-host of Gimlet's Uncivil, at the Podcast Movement Conference in Philadelphia. Kumanyika explains that capitalism is not just an economic system; it's a mindset, and he offers insight into why we are having these discussions right now. In Part 2, Leah interviews activist and permaculture designer Ryan Rosshirt about why he joined the DSA, how he turned his backyard into a permaculture farm, how what civic engagement can improve our quality of life. From Co-ops, to city council meetings, to the joy of chickens, we're covering a lot of ground here, so bear with us!

Capitalism is dangerous and makes people suffer according to The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) who say they are out to upset the status quo. National DSA Director Maria Svart sat down with FOX Business Correspondent Adam Shapiro to explain the DSA's short and long-term goals, which some people will find troubling but others embrace. The D-S-A says it has 48,000 members. Their core principle rejects an international economic order sustained by private profit. Asked to explain what that means Svart said, "In the long term we want a society where workers control things." When asked if that meant eliminating private ownership of business Svart responded, "If that's what the voters wanted eventually I think you are talking about a utopian vision which is certainly our vision in the long term but it's not something I anticipate happening anytime soon." Svart lays bare the ultimate goals of the Democratic Socialists such as limiting the ownership of private property, nationalizing healthcare and pushing the Democratic Party further to the left.

FBI visits more activists in WNC From BRABC: On September 8, 2017, an FBI agent attempted to visit a comrade in western North Carolina. They visited a house, and the person there stepped outside to talk to the agent, who repeatedly asked if the comrade in question lived there. The person at the house did not engage with those questions, and instead insisted on a card from the agent that a lawyer could call later. The agent said it was regarding a case being handled by another office. This comes at a time when Anarchists have been standing up to a grand jury and other FBI harassment across the state of North Carolina. The person who the FBI agent was seeking secured legal representation. On September 13, 2017, their lawyer called a number the agent wrote down, and the FBI specified that they were actually looking to speak with the person's child, a minor. The FBI said that they were seeking the original person because a legal guardian had to be present for the agent to talk to the minor. During that call the agent stated she wanted to ask about graffiti on a car related to a case being investigated by the FBI Field Office in Raleigh, NC. The minor in question has now secured legal representation. Nobody above is speaking to the FBI. We cannot just hope that harassment like this stops. Get educated on how to protect yourself if the FBI shows up. If you are approached by the FBI, refuse to answer their questions. Know your rights! Please read If An Agent Knocks for more information. Bonus: https://www.patreon.com/posts/14485685 This is our LIVE TAPING episode with Khader El-Yateem and Jabari Brisport, who were inspired to run for city council by Bernie Sanders (whom they admire) and by Trump (whose scary & destructive victory convinced them to enter politics). A Palestinian, Arab-American, socialist Khader El-Yateem is a community organizer & faith leader who is committed to social justice. He talks about how his experience being imprisoned & tortured by Israeli soldiers inspired him to seek understanding and dialog. He ran as a Democrat and though he lost the primary by 7 points, he scored an amazing victory by coming so close and taking on the Democratic Machine. Like Rev. El-Yateem, Jabari Brisport was endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). A third generation Brooklyn resident, Jabari is still in the race, having run on the Green Party ticket. We discuss the Bernie Bro Myth, which they shatter as an Arab-American and African American, "coming out," as socialist and why they ran in the parties they did.
On this episode, Matt & Jesse have a discussion with Kelsey Goldberg (@KelseyFGold) and Jack Suria Linares (@SuriaLinares213) from DSA-Los Angeles chapter about the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Kelsey and Jack explore their childhood and later political awakening by describing the moment (or moments) that led to not only their transcendent belief in socialism, but how they went beyond mere beliefs by deciding to take action and become activists and organizers via their self-discovery process. We will also learn about DSA's history and contributions, as well as its future aims as a consequence of its recent National Convention. Additionally, our visitors to the show will talk about what DSA-LA has in the revolutionary pot that's about to boil over into a Mario-Brothers pasta of comrade-goodness. By the very end of this podcast episode, Kelsey, Jesse and Jack get our ‘DSA-Curious' Comrade, Matthew, to break down his resistance and finally #TrySocialism.
