Hebrews 5:13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant. We are learning today from the author of Hebrews about what he considered spiritual solid food. He considered solid food to be the “word of righteousness.” He said spiritual infants weren't accustomed to such food. The term accustomed is translated from a word that means experience. The idea is that they have yet to experience the power of God's word of righteousness spoken in Christ. We know from the verses above in chapter 4, that he means the word of God hadn't been beneficial to them because it had not been united with faith in their hearts. That makes sense because he had been warning them about the sin of unbelief and their failure to enter into God's Sabbath rest. What is the word of righteousness? It is that Jesus finished the work of righteousness on our behalf through His work on the cross so we could draw near to God for help in living righteously in the midst of suffering in this world. Later in chapter ten, the author stated why believers gather together on a regular basis. It's to stimulate and encourage one another to love and good works (10:24). That's another way of defining righteousness. Encouraging one another to live to love with Jesus is our meat, our solid food. If we are mature in Christ, we should be accustomed to such a diet of spiritual food. That's what I'm seeking to do through the Live to Love Scripture Encouragements. I'm offering my listeners solid food so they can grow to maturity and stand before God, complete in Christ. To live to love with Jesus for the glory of God is the word of righteousness. It's impossible without Jesus. We must believe the gospel that God has provided His Son to be our high priest to give us access to God so we can be filled with the life of God through faith in His Son. As we enter into His life and rest, we learn to obedience through the suffering God orchestrates in our lives. We receive well what He gives us, because we have believed the gospel, the good news preached to us in Christ. I hope you have found the Live to Love with Jesus Scripture podcasts to be solid food for your souls. I hope it is helping you develop a healthy appetite for the word of righteousness—the word that calls you to live out of the life of Jesus Christ, who loves righteousness and hates lawlessness, as the author wrote about Him in 1:9. If it is helping you, please share the food with others who you know are hungry to grow in love with Jesus by loving others. Please let them know about livetolovewithjesus.com and the resources available for their growth in love. I hope that today you will not only trust in the righteousness of Jesus Christ for your standing before God, but also in His righteousness, His love, as you receive well whatever He gives you today, for His glory.
It's going surprisingly easily ...

Daily Halacha Podcast - Daily Halacha By Rabbi Eli J. Mansour
The Shulhan Aruch, in a famous ruling, distinguishes between solid and liquid foods with regard to the permissibility of reheating on Shabbat. When it comes to liquids, the Shulhan Aruch rules that "Yesh Bishul Ahar Bishul," which means that once a liquid food has cooled, reheating it constitutes cooking and is forbidden. It is therefore forbidden to reheat cold liquid food on Shabbat in any manner. With respect to solids, however, the Shulhan Aruch maintains that "En Bishul Ahar Bishul," meaning, the food cannot be "cooked" twice. Even after the cooked food has cooled, reheating it does not constitute a new "cooking." It is therefore permissible to reheat solid foods on Shabbat over a covered flame or hotplate. Common examples of such food include rice and kibbeh. The authorities debate the question of whether or not one may reheat on Shabbat food that is mainly solid, but has some liquid, as well. It must be clarified that we do not refer here to foods that contain liquid inside; nearly all foods have some water inside them. We refer here to a situation such as a roast, or yebra (stuffed grape leaves), which is a solid food but has some gravy sitting on the bottom of the pot. This question depends on how one interprets a certain passage in the Bet Yosef, as well as the correct text of the passage in question. In short, the Minhat Kohen, based on his interpretation of the Bet Yosef, held that a food which is primarily solid has the status of a solid food with respect to this Halacha. Even though it contains some liquid, the food's status is determined by the majority, and therefore it may be reheated on Shabbat despite the presence of some liquid. It is recorded that the practice in Jerusalem was to follow this ruling. Hacham Ovadia Yosef, in his work Yehave Da'at, accepts this lenient position of the Minhat Kohen and allows reheating on Shabbat food that contains some liquid. Interestingly, in a recorded public lecture, Hacham Ovadia appeared to express some ambivalence on the matter, and many understood that he rescinded the ruling issued in Yehave Da'at. But in a later publication (Yabia Omer, vol. 9), Hacham Ovadia clarified that he did not retract his ruling, and that he indeed permits warming such foods on Shabbat. He does, however, add that those who are stringent are "worthy of blessing," as they satisfy all opinions. This point is made by Hacham Ovadia's son, Hacham Yishak Yosef, in Yalkut Yosef. Strictly speaking, though, according to Hacham Ovadia, Halacha follows the lenient view of the Minhat Kohen. Other authorities, however, disagreed. Hacham Ben Sion Abba Shaul (Israel, 1923-1998), for example, ruled stringently on this issue and maintained that one may not reheat liquid under any circumstances, even if the liquid constitutes the minority of a food which is mainly solid. As for the final Halacha, those who have a non-Jewish housekeeper working on Shabbat should preferably ask the housekeeper to place such a food on the Blech or hotplate, rather than doing so themselves. This is permissible according to all views. Those who do not have a non-Jew working in their homes may reheat food that contains some liquid, though it is preferable to be stringent in this regard. Summary: One may reheat on Shabbat (on a Blech or hotplate) dry cooked food that contains some liquid, such as a roast or yebra that has some gravy or juice on the bottom. In order to satisfy all opinions, however, it is preferable to have a non-Jew reheat this food and not to do so oneself.

Rev. Jacob Dandy, pastor at Zion Lutheran Church and School in Terra Bella, CA, joins host Rev. Timothy Appel to study Hebrews 5:11-6:3. Before he expounds more fully on Jesus as a high priest in the order of Melchizedek, the author of Hebrews pauses to warn his hearers against dull hearing. He has continued to give them only the basics of faith, although he desires to build on that foundation and lead his congregation to all of the joyful truths of the doctrine that God teaches. As Christians, we never leave the basics behind, yet we always seek to be active hearers who dig more deeply into the Holy Scriptures to learn more and more of the wondrous truth God teaches. “The New Covenant in Christ” is a series on Sharper Iron that goes through the book of Hebrews. The book of Hebrews is best understood as a sermon preached to those who have gathered for the Divine Service, exhorting them to continued faithfulness to Jesus. As the Son of God and our Brother, Jesus is both our exalted King and faithful High Priest who is truly present with us so that we might fix our eyes on Him.

Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 3:1-9 In 1 Corinthians 3 Paul returns to the issue with which he began his letter, namely the dissension that had plagued the congregation. Here Paul goes to the root of the problem. The Corinthian Christians had not grown much in their communion with God. Paul calls them "people of the flesh, infants in Christ" (1 Cor 3:1). They understood basic spiritual truths, but had not gone very deeply in their grasp of these things. The evidence of their shallow communion with God was "jealously and strife" (1 Cor 3:3). In correcting this matter, Paul points the Corinthians to God and away from the earthly allegiances they had attached themselves to … their teachers, Paul and Apollos. What was needed in this congregation was a deeper spiritual maturity. This evidence of this would be the capacity to receive "solid food," which leads to a deeper understanding of God and His work in Christ. The Bible calls on Christians to "grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" (2 Pet 3:18). There is a diligence necessary for such growth. The disciplines of prayer and Bible study and daily confession of sins and meditation on God's truths are not simply good for us … they are crucial for our progress in our journey to the Celestial City.
How healthy is your spiritual appetite? Are you on a liquid diet or does the offer of a hearty meal sound more appealing? Your answer will determine whether your faith stagnates or flourishes. Ron Moore examines the link between a nourishing doctrinal feast and mature faith. His study will challenge you to expand your menu.
The author encourages the Hebrews to mature to the solid food of the Word of righteousness. His passion is that no one would fall away - and part of that is becoming mature in the Word to discern good and evil.
