“Freedom in Jesus” Scripture & Sermon 4/27/2025
2nd Mar 2025 -Rachel Watson - The Way of Jesus - Scripture by Milford Baptist Church
This week we're invited to explore the vital discipline of engaging with Scripture. The story of Mary and Martha from Luke 10:38-42 serves as a compelling reminder of the importance of prioritizing our time with God's Word. Just as Mary chose to sit at Jesus' feet, we too are called to make intentional choices in our spiritual lives. The sermon presents four practical ways to engage with Scripture: memorization, meditation, exegesis, and intentional reading. Each method offers a unique pathway to deepen our relationship with God and apply His truth to our daily lives. As we reflect on these practices, we're challenged to consider: Are we, like Martha, distracted by the busyness of life, or are we choosing the 'better part' by immersing ourselves in God's Word? This message encourages us to see Scripture not as a chore, but as a life-giving encounter with the living God, essential for our spiritual growth and transformation.

Hebrews 5:13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant. We are learning today from the author of Hebrews about what he considered spiritual solid food. He considered solid food to be the “word of righteousness.” He said spiritual infants weren't accustomed to such food. The term accustomed is translated from a word that means experience. The idea is that they have yet to experience the power of God's word of righteousness spoken in Christ. We know from the verses above in chapter 4, that he means the word of God hadn't been beneficial to them because it had not been united with faith in their hearts. That makes sense because he had been warning them about the sin of unbelief and their failure to enter into God's Sabbath rest. What is the word of righteousness? It is that Jesus finished the work of righteousness on our behalf through His work on the cross so we could draw near to God for help in living righteously in the midst of suffering in this world. Later in chapter ten, the author stated why believers gather together on a regular basis. It's to stimulate and encourage one another to love and good works (10:24). That's another way of defining righteousness. Encouraging one another to live to love with Jesus is our meat, our solid food. If we are mature in Christ, we should be accustomed to such a diet of spiritual food. That's what I'm seeking to do through the Live to Love Scripture Encouragements. I'm offering my listeners solid food so they can grow to maturity and stand before God, complete in Christ. To live to love with Jesus for the glory of God is the word of righteousness. It's impossible without Jesus. We must believe the gospel that God has provided His Son to be our high priest to give us access to God so we can be filled with the life of God through faith in His Son. As we enter into His life and rest, we learn to obedience through the suffering God orchestrates in our lives. We receive well what He gives us, because we have believed the gospel, the good news preached to us in Christ. I hope you have found the Live to Love with Jesus Scripture podcasts to be solid food for your souls. I hope it is helping you develop a healthy appetite for the word of righteousness—the word that calls you to live out of the life of Jesus Christ, who loves righteousness and hates lawlessness, as the author wrote about Him in 1:9. If it is helping you, please share the food with others who you know are hungry to grow in love with Jesus by loving others. Please let them know about livetolovewithjesus.com and the resources available for their growth in love. I hope that today you will not only trust in the righteousness of Jesus Christ for your standing before God, but also in His righteousness, His love, as you receive well whatever He gives you today, for His glory.

Sermon: The Deliverance of Jesus Scripture: 2 Corinthians 1:8-11 Teacher: Paul Lawler Drawing parallels from the biblical narrative of God's people journeying through the desert, Pastor Paul Lawler reflects on how our own desert experiences reveal the true condition of our hearts and character. Listeners are guided through the desert seasons of key biblical figures like Joseph, Moses, and the Apostle Paul. Pastor Paul illuminates how these challenging times served as divine setups for breakthroughs, emphasizing that in the desert, God doesn't just change circumstances but transforms individuals.Using the Apostle Paul's experiences as a backdrop, Pastor Paul explores the multifaceted nature of Jesus' deliverance. He highlights that it's not merely a human deliverance but a truth-filled, prayer-filled, and worshipful deliverance. Listeners are encouraged to embrace transparency within their Christian community, recognizing that deliverance often comes through shared burdens and mutual support. We're reminded that the desert may feel like a setback, but it's ultimately a place where divine resources are discovered and where God's transformative work is accomplished.

A luminou reminder that Jesus is "the Way" and His Word is like pure milk (John 14:6; 1 Peter 2:2-3)In 1807, John Newton, best known as composer of the hymn ‘Amazing Grace', encapsulated the amazing grace of God in some of his last words as he lay dying. He declared: ‘I am a great sinner but Christ is a great Saviour.'Jesus was insulted, persecuted and slandered by his enemies. How did Jesus retaliate? He didn't. Per ChatGPT: “No, Jesus is often portrayed as teaching non-retaliation and forgiveness. In the biblical narrative, particularly in the New Testament, Jesus is characterized as promoting love for enemies and responding to hostility with patience and compassion. The idea is rooted in teachings such as "turn the other cheek" and "love your enemies," emphasizing a non-retaliatory and forgiving approach.”Retaliation refers to the act of responding to an injury or harm with a corresponding injury or harm. When he shook my hand, he held on and said, “Pastor, my daughter is in the Air Force, and she is being deployed to the Middle East.” He began to tremble, and tears rolled down his cheeks. It was a poignant moment. I sensed the fear and concern he had for his daughter. He was expressing what every parent feels when a son or daughter is called into the midst of warfare. He said to me, “Please pray for my daughter,” and I said, “Yes, of course.” At St. Andrew's, we have lists of people for whom we regularly pray, but this particular encounter was so urgent that I could not go to sleep that week without first pleading for his daughter before the Lord. Central to the Christian journey is the faithful reading of Scripture and fellowship with Jesus and his followers. This is vividly illustrated in the dramatic encounter between two disciples and the risen Jesus on the road from Jerusalem to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35). The disciples recognize who Jesus is, and are able to proclaim the gospel, only after he explains Scripture in relation to himself and when they share a meal in communion together.

We know the stories of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. We read the words of Moses and Paul. We seek to emulate women like Esther, Ruth, and Mary. But what about the lesser-known women of the Bible? How do their stories fit in the grand narrative of the Bible? And additionally, how should we see ourselves in light of these stories? On this podcast, Shelby and Krystal are joined by Nana Dolce, author of “The Seed of the Woman: 30 Narratives that Point to Jesus.” They discuss the biblical narratives of women like Hagar, Zipporah, and the widow of Zarephath to help us to see the gospel in all of Scripture. As Nana shares, you will hear her passion for the Scriptures as well as for teaching others. Her enthusiasm for God's Word is contagious and we pray that this episode deepens your joy in the Lord. Reading from The Gospel According Matthew 4:1-11 (NLT) ~The Temptation of Jesus~ Scripture reading followed by discussion. This scripture reveals to us the tactics of the enemy. Tempting us to respond out of our lizard brain, hoping we will not think it through. Jesus shifts the focus back to what is true, important, and necessary for life. The enemy takes truth and uses it in a way that is contrary to the heart of God. The enemy will challenge our identity and God’s love for us.
Reading from The Gospel According Matthew 3:11-17 (NLT) ~John the Baptist Prepares the Way Cont., The Baptism of Jesus~ Scripture reading followed by discussion. John continues to proclaim the greatness of Jesus. The display of God’s endorsement of Jesus. The power of God with them but no one is fully grasping yet. Jesus being endorsed as God’s son declares he is the example we should follow and not our own choice of what is right or wrong, good or evil following the example of Adam and Eve.
Matthew 13:7, 22 This parable specifically supports the consistent teaching of Jesus/Scripture that love for riches is incompatible with devotion to God. The post Ain’t Nothing Going To Prevail In Thorny Ground! appeared first on DayBreak Community Church.

The heart behind the story is Jesus’ love and devotion for the ones who do God’s will for us, to love God and love people.
Reading from The Gospel According Mark 1:9-15 (NLT) ~The Baptism and Temptation of Jesus~ Scripture reading followed by discussion. Self-evaluation. The burden we are under is not the oppression from other humans but the aftermath of the fall and centuries of us choosing for ourselves what is right. Recognition that God’s presence is with you right now. Eyes need to focus on the Good News and not our circumstance. The need for a community of believers to come along side you and encourage you along the way.

We know: we're weird. How can we believe in the gospel and still question scripture? Well, we hope this short episode helps answer that question. Although challenging, we hope not to be a stumbling block to your faith. In fact, this is a call to a faithful following of the teachings and belief in the gospel of Jesus Christ. We will be recording our next episode soon. We have the story of Noah and the flood coming up soon. You can bet it'll be interesting.
