Over the years, we have tried several beverages that have had connections to the music industry. Without going into the archives at AboutBeverages.com we can list several right off of the top of our heads. We have had a beer (Enter Night Pilsner by Stone) and a whiskey (Blackened) from Metallica, a delicious dark sour ale (Clutch, from New Belgium) made in conjunction with the band Clutch, and an IPA (Phantom Bride, from Belching Beaver) named after a song by the Deftones. This trend was even on display locally as we tried an anniversary beer (Here Comes a Regular) made by Tombstone Brewing to commemorate the 6th anniversary of Tap and Bottle that was named after a song by The Replacements. While we realize that this week's beverage is not directly connected to a band, its name is so very close to the name of a 1960’s California surf band that we decided to make the leap. In this episode we will be trying the Surfari IPA from Pizza Port Brewing Company. This beer, which is their seasonal release for January thru March, is a re-imaging of a classic West Coast style IPA and features the Nelson hop. In case you were wondering about the subtle music connection, The Surfaris are the band responsible for the surf music classic “Wipe Out.” What did we think? What do you think? Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.
Welcome to November beautiful people, this year has just flown by I can't believe we're already thinking about Christmas! Still on a total wedding high and getting used to the new name - we're actually in Byron Bay this week for our mini moon so it seemed the perfect week to release this episode with Mullumbimby girl, Renée Bargh. I was lucky enough to record this one in Renée's beautiful home in Venice Beach when I was in LA on the way to Necker Island a few weeks ago and she had literally just come out of the ocean, what an absolute goddess. Despite an incredibly successful career over in the US, she remains a down to earth, Aussie beach baby whose family and friends mean more to her than anything. Having always lived for the performing arts, presenting was not Renée's first or even second love. After studying at Brent Street, Renée first set her sights on a career in dancing but then got picked up by Sony as part of a girl band (very originally called Girlband). It was a happy accident that got her into presenting with National Bingo Night on Seven then Surfari on Channel 9, followed by Channel V which then led her to her current position in LA as host on Extra TV alongside co host Mario Lopez and this is her ninth year on the job. Holding her own in Hollywood on the most fancy of red carpets, Renée's charm and talents have won her TWO Emmy awards that you'll hear I made her whip out during our chat. She speaks candidly about making it, homesickness and finding balance and I hope you enjoy as much as I did. + Follow Renée at @reneebargh + More about our videographers, Moon and Back Co + Announcements on Insta at @spoonful_of_sarah + Subscribe to not miss out on the next instalment of YAY!

Noun - Xho.sa The Bantu language of the Xhosa tribe, related to Zulu and spoken by over 7 million people. It is one of the official languages of South Africa. We spent 7 days on the point. The point is a different world from the City. Every day the same. Every day good waves and good vibes from the Lities. Every day starts with Coffee and Cigarettes and every day ends with Black Labels and a Brai. We slept at 9 and woke at 5. Some days we foraged for mushrooms. Some days we bought the biggest crayfish I’ve ever seen. The point was our home and the Lities were our family and the biggest worry we had was Sharks and rolling the land rover on the track to the point. It was a blissful existence. Music by the Brian Jonestown Massacre Filmed and Edited by Guillem Cruells. Supported by Monster Energy.

Surfing somewhere cold has been forever on my bucket list... putting on that 5mm wetsuit with a hood, gloves and boots was seriously the coolest thing ever. You kinda have to dig deep to get psyched to go surf because it’s that cold, or way colder than I’m used to surfing in Sydney. Lots of coffee, music and air punches to warm the body up. We didn’t really get stand up tubes, but fuck I had fun!
