A few months ago, I interviewed Nick Roth about his horror comedy “Hanky Panky” and for 4/20 this year, they're doing a campaign every day of the week to promote it. To help out, I'm re-releasing our interview!Tune in as California State University Northridge film professor and filmmaker, Nick Roth and I talk filming in China, silent movies , what does “favorite movie” mean (which is part of his teachings at CSNU) and so much more! Nick truly was a fun guest and I'm looking forward to having him back!Check out Hanky Panky on Tubi.If you're not doing so already, please like and follow Classic American Movies on Instagram and Facebook. Nick Roth comes from a filmmaking family and did a “blood oath” to not pursue that path, until he went with his father to China to make one wild crazy flick in 2013 called “Chronicles of the Ghostly Tribe”. The movie was a nightmare to shoot, but it jumpstarted Nick's interested and drove him to become a film professor at Cal State Northridge as an adjunct professor in cinema studies and eventually leading to his own film, “Hanky Panky,” a horror comedy about a man and his napkin friend saving the world from a dark evil in a cabin. If you're not doing so already, please like and follow Classic American Movies on Instagram and Facebook. I do free movie giveaways, mini movie reviews and more!
Channeling the energy of creative geniuses like Sean Cunningham and Al Adamson, Baltimore indie filmmaker Shawn Wright is bringing back the sleazy gory horror films of yore with his production company FaceMelt Features. His first feature, “Night of the Axe” was a fun throwback to the 80's slasher and his follow up “Spirit Board” (based on the Ouija horror films) is currently in preproduction. After chatting with Shawn, it's very clear he has a promising future in horror films and I'm looking forward to seeing more of his work.To support Shawn's movies, or to check them out, visit www.facemeltfeatures.com If you're not doing so already, please like and follow Classic American Movies on Facebook and Instagram . I do a lot of appreciation posts, movie reviews and free film giveaways!

Are you ready to murder your next movie night? Introducing The Horror Movie Night Cookbook: 60 Deliciously Deadly Recipes Inspired by Iconic Slashers, Zombie Films, Psychological Thrillers, Sci-Fi Spooks, and More by Richard S. Sargent [ISBN: 978-1-64604-491-7; Ulysses Press; July 2023], a killer new cookbook offering thoughtful and tasty food and cocktail pairings inspired by the actual content of chilling classics like Jaws, Psycho, Scream, The Conjuring, The Evil Dead, Halloween, and more! If you're looking for kitschy Pinterest recipes like coffin-shaped cookies or zombie finger sandwiches, look elsewhere. With The Horror Movie Night Cookbook, you'll find recipes inspired by horror's most frightening favorites, including: Crawling Steak (Poltergeist) Campfire Sour (The Blair Witch Project) Zombie Baby Kale Salad (Dawn of the Dead) Bloody Floaties (Jaws) Alligator Bites (Crawl) The Mama's Boy Martini (Psycho) And more! GET THE COOKBOOK HERE: https://amzn.to/46XLaAI Unlike other movie-themed cookbooks, The Horror Movie Night Cookbook takes you inside the films. “Inspired by the film itself, the recipes are built around food that is being eaten in the films or iconic lines or characters within. It's not just a cookbook to pull out in October,” Sargent says. “My recipes are thoughtful and creative meals that can be served any time of the year.” Richard S. Sargent was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Some of his earliest memories are of sitting in front of the TV after school, watching reruns of Chiller Theatre with his mom. You can blame her for his obsession with horror films. Richard is an award-winning actor, director, producer, playwright, and filmmaker. You can find some of his short plays published on Amazon via Left Coast Publishing. His short film, Meat, described as “torture porn with bacon,” was released in the horror anthology World of Death. Richard has always been interested in creative cooking. Most of his day jobs were in restaurants and on food trucks. After taking a few cooking classes, Richard decided doing it for a living would take all of the fun out of it. So he found a new way to keep cooking fun: The Horror Movie Night Cookbook! When he isn't doing theater, cooking for his friends, or watching horror films, he is performing with the band he and his husband created—The Green Winter. You can listen to their music on iTunes and Spotify. Man, oh man do I love this flick! It's one of those ultra-low budget movies from the 80's that you can feel an entire city (Akron, OH, to be exact) helping out to make a filmmaker's dream come true. It was secretly financed by Sam Raimi with his pay for "The Evil Dead II" and voice over's were all done by Bruce Campbell (who voices several people), Ted Raimi and other shemps.I love showing this movie to folks, and my good friend Clay Chamberlin joins the pod to discover this classic slice of zombie horror you should watch and make part of your personal collection. Stay tuned in after the episode for an interview with James L. Edwards, who was a 12-year-old boy who's life would be forever changed when he answered an ad in a newspaper looking for zombies in "The Dead Next Door."

It's time to leave Child's Play behind. But we're not giving the world of horror a rest just yet. Instead, we're swerving right into another hugely influential franchise, starting with Sam Raimi's 1981 classic The Evil Dead. On this episode, Bri Azmoudeh of The Geeky Waffle Network's Killer Waffles podcast joins us to talk about Raimi's cabin-in-the-woods splatter-fest. We'll discuss the film's shoestring budget, the emerge of Bruce Campbell as a movie star, and even the stage musical adaptation. SYNOPSIS Ashley "Ash" Williams (Bruce Campbell), his girlfriend Linda (Betsy Baker), his sister Cheryl (Ellen Sandweiss), and friends Scott (Hal Delrich) and Shelly (Sarah York) hike into the woods to a cabin for a fun night away. There they find an old book, the Necronomicon, whose text reawakens the dead when it's read aloud. The friends inadvertently release a flood of evil and must fight for their lives or become one of the evil dead. Ash watches his friends become possessed, and must make a difficult decision before daybreak to save his own life in this, the first of Sam Raimi's trilogy.
