It's time for one of those huge episodes. Well, it's a four parter anyways. 1990 was a damn fine year for horror movies. Unfortunately though, once again, there is no iron clad masterpiece amongst them. Just a stack of really decent films. But, what do I think was the very greatest horror movie that came out during 1990? Well, here we have the top 10. The worst 10. A slew of also rans. Some awesome mates. Some special guests. Several pints of beer and a 6+ hour running. This is 1990, A Year In Horror. It's a pretty long journey this one, part 1 of 4 in fact. Demon Wind (1990) synopsis: “With the need to investigate the mysterious death of his grandparents, Cory and his friends assemble back to the old farm where it all began, sixty years earlier.”Starring: Eric Larson, Francine Lapensée, Sherry Leigh, and Stephen QuadrosDirector: Charles Philip MooreThis week on Podcasting After Dark, Zak and Corey breakdown and review Demon Wind! Sure the movie is low-budget and pretty darn silly, but it has a lot of charm, the effects are great, and Dell (played by Bobby Johnston) is a goddamn beefcake! Demon Wind is the perfect movie to watch with friends while kicking back some beers and burning some joints! Die, Monster, Die! (1965), Necronomicon (1993), and Gods of the Deep (2023) While Stephen King may dominate when it comes to movie adaptations of his work—good or bad—one might expect that H.P. Lovecraft, given his immense impact on the literary world, would inspire just as many films. Yet, despite his influence, far fewer movies have been made from his stories than you'd think. Perhaps it's because Lovecraft's horror isn't about the details of what his characters see, but rather what those horrors do to them—often driving them into madness. And therein lies the beauty of his work. In this episode, we dive into three very different films, spanning three decades, each drawing from the strange and unsettling tales of this enigmatic author from Providence, Rhode Island. If you're not well-versed in Lovecraft's work, this is your chance to experience three adaptations—loose as they may be—that offer a glimpse into his nightmarish imagination. Films Mentioned in this Episode: Castle Freak (1995), Color Out of Space (2019), Creepshow (1982), The Crimson Blade (1963), Crying Freeman (1995), Demon Wind (1990), The Devil-Ship Pirates (1964), Die, Monster, Die! (1965), Dracula Prince of Darkness (1966), The Dunwich Horror (1970), The Evil Dead (1981), From Beyond (1986), Gamera, Guardian of the Universe (1995), Gods of the Deep (2023), Hatchet (2006), The Haunted Palace (1963), Humanoids from the Deep (1981), In the Mouth of Madness (1994), The Invisible Ray (1935), Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988), Leprechaun (1993), Leprechaun 2 (1994), Leprechaun 4: In Space (1996), Leprechaun 5: In the Hood (2000), Leprechaun 6: Back 2 Tha Hood (2003), Lovecraft Country (2020), Lurking Fear (1994), Necronomicon (1993), Re-Animator (1985), Return of the Living Dead III (1993), The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), The Unnamable (1988), Vampyres (1974)
In this week's episode, we're covering a movie that we've frankly been putting off for like two months now with the 1990 supernatural (?) thriller (??) "Demon Wind." Special topics for your consideration include: running at full speed out of the gate and being unable to maintain that pace for any amount of time, lying about the dates of milestone events, He-Man lights, wizards, pudding, and what if anything a demon wind actually is. As far as horror goes, 1990 was an absolute mess as evidenced by the high highs and low lows of Episode 28- "Child's Play 2," Episode 97- "IT," Episode 132- "Tales from the Darkside," Episode 167- "Puppet Master 2," Episode 184- "Tremors," Episode 194- "Santa Sangre," Episode 320- "Nightbreed," and Episode 335- "Frankenhooker." Happy February friends...oh crap! It's actually March; damn you short month. Well, I guess the boys will be doing two episodes this month. Welcome to the Season 6 premiere of Filmed Obscura. The boys made it to 39 episodes and now their bringing some fun horror movies to the mix. This season, Chris and Justin will be tackling goofy, fun horror movies. It's a horror-centric season but the films will be uber fun. In fact, NOTHING like Season 4. For the premiere, Justin picked a loving tribute to films like The Evil Dead, Demons and Night of the Demons. It's got demons. It's got campy characters. It's got wind. Sort of? Get ready for Demon Wind. There might be angels...and lots of tangents. Sorry, but enjoy! We are on social media, but as you'll see, we're really bad at it.Filmed Obscura: @FilmedObscura on TwitterJustin: @rustyman_51 on Twitter and IGChris: @chrisherdter on IGTheme song composed by artist Zagi2 courtesy of Freesound.org. :)
What is scarier than Demon Wind? No, that's not a fart. It's the title of this week's film but either way there's not much more terrifying or more hilarious than a horrendously scripted horror movie. The box art for DEMON WIND (1990) is iconic. We have fond memories of admiring it in the video stores of our youth. But is the movie any good? We wanted to choose a less obvious title for right before Halloween, and we wanted something sort of corny, like HELLGATE or DOOM ASYLUM. Did we choose correctly, or will we regret this film for the rest of our lives? Also, Ed says a lot of insane stuff on the podcast lately-- how does this impact his dating life? Strap in for another classic episode about a less than classic film.
Could a movie as recent as 2015 be considered iconic? We argue that IT FOLLOWS can, as we break down the sex follower masterpiece during our October horror month. We ask all the annoying logistical questions everyone does, while Ed comes up with the ultimate loophole. David Robert Mitchell is just one of the many people who should never listen to this episode. But YOU should! Please rate and review, and join us next week (ish) for DEMON WIND (1990)!

Yo, Junkies! JFD is back with another round of Dom DeLuise Patreon Donor picks this episode. There will me psycho killers, demon zombies and retro swinger orgies! What more could you ask for?Up first, Lucio Fulci takes his unique brand of Italian giallo to the grimy streets of early-80's NYC in The New York Ripper from 1982 (picked by Eddie) about a serial slasher who targets young women and talks like a duck on the phone. Then, a group of horror cliches go to visit a remote farmhouse where one of the kids' grandparents had been murdered, only to find the site is still haunted and overrun with zombies in 1990's Demon Wind (picked by Evan). And finally, Anna Biller writes, directs, does set design, costumes and stars in Viva from 2007 (picked by Matt M), a wonderfully retro and kitschy tale about a woman bored with the trappings of early 70's homemaking and sets off on an adventure to awaken her sexuality. All this plus a recap of the crap we've been watching in quarantine, chicken pot pie chat, Parker's thoughts on Cats, Nerd News, this week's most notable blu-rays and so much more! Austin Snell joins us this week to discuss the making of his cult film, "Exposure." The movie is a classic tale of a couple going to a cabin in the woods to work on their relationship, only to encounter an evil force that is capable of turning people into monsters. With killer effects in the same vein as "Demon Wind," and "The Evil Dead," Austin made a fantastic film for audiences to enjoy.
