Berlin-based producer Tantum, aka Thomas Koch, came up as a guitarist before channeling a decade of instrumental discipline into a refined electronic sound rooted in analog warmth, restrained tension and steady momentum. Moving fluidly between minimal, techno and progressive house, he broke through with his 2020 debut on Guy J's Lost & Found, setting the tone for a steady run of club-focused releases. Subsequent outings on labels including Bedrock, Radikon, Poker Flat and Monaberry have cemented his reputation, earning consistent support from key selectors across the scene. Since 2025, he has also helmed the keep my letters imprint, extending his curatorial vision while delivering DJ and live sets built around long arcs, deep grooves and euphoric release. For this Balance Selections mix, Tantum delivers a two-hour journey steeped in refined progressive drama. Featuring music from Frankey & Sandrino, Andrés Moris, Guy J and more, this is an impressive showcase of track selection and narrative which unfolds with purpose from start to finish. @tantum-music

On Thursday, September 28th, 2000, Joseph Mesa Jr, a freshman at Gallaudet University, started to get worried about his friend, Eric Plunkett. Eric had missed an 8pm tutoring session that evening, and when Joseph started asking around, he realized that no one had seen Eric for at least a couple of days. Eric didn't have a roommate, so Joseph went to the Resident Advisor, Thomas Koch, and asked if he could just check on Eric to make sure he was okay. Thomas headed down to Eric's room, but he didn't answer the door, so Thomas used his master key to unlock the door, but when he pushed it open, he was horrified to find Eric lying on the floor in a pool of his own blood.
