Clare is set to benefit from a boost to its Garda numbers but not as many as had been expected. There's been a mixed response to the news that six of the latest 154 Gardaí attested at Templemore will be allocated to Ennis Station. However, an earlier announcement at the end of July predicting an additional 15 Gardaí for the Shannon division now seems to have faltered To discuss this further, Sally-Ann Barrett was joined by Timmy Dooley, Tulla-based Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and Tony Mulcahy, Shannon Fine Gael Councillor.

Over 1,500 Clare students will receive the results of their state exams today. The portal to view both Leaving Cert and Leaving Cert Applied results opens at 10am this morning. 1,412 students sat the Leaving Cert this summer, while a further 103 undertook the LCA examination. This year marks the first of the State Examination Commission's attempt to return grade levels to that of 2019, the last pre-pandemic Leaving Cert year. Alan Morrissey was speaking with Donna Ní Ghallchobhair, Guidance Counsellor from St Joseph's Secondary School in Tulla. To give advice for students going out tonight to celebrate receiving their Leaving Cert results, Alan morrissey was joined by Sergeant Dominic Regan, community policing sergeant for Ennis and Garda Eoin Cummins, operational garda in Ennis.
Leaving Cert students in Clare are pouring over their results this afternoon. Over 1,500 young people across the county have been receiving their final grades since 10am this morning. The anxious wait is over for Clare's 1,412 Leaving Cert and 103 Leaving Cert Applied students, who have been receiving their results online and in person at schools across the county today. This year's results are down due to grade deflation, with top grades down by around 2 per cent. It's the first stage of phasing out grade inflation, which was brought in during the pandemic. Close to 100 Ennis Community College/Gaelcholáiste an Chláir alumni gathered in person to see how they fared and these students have been telling Clare FM how they got on. It begins a busy week for the county's outgoing leaving cer students, with the first round of CAO offers issued on Wednesday, before the appeals window opens on Sunday, August 31st. Guidance Counsellor at St Joseph's Secondary School in Tulla, Donna Ní Ghallchobhair, is advising students to reach out for assistance if they're unsure what steps to take next. She says everyone's pathway after their exams is different, given the array of options available. Meanwhile, Clare Gardaí are urging caution as those who received their results head out to celebrate. Keeping your phone charged, planning where you're headed and how to get home, and staying in touch with a parent throughout the night are the key pieces of advice they've issued. Operational Garda in Ennis, Eoin Cummins says everyone should take responsibility for both themselves and their friend group.

The Social Democrats have criticised the Government's proposal to raise the size limit for cabins or garden homes to 45 sq.m, calling it a "half-baked plan" to relocate people into what they describe as "glorified garden sheds." The Cabinet was informed that a public consultation on the proposal to increase the permitted size for such structures to 45 sq.m will launch today. This is larger than the original suggested upper limit of 40 sq.m. Under current rules, an extension to the rear of a property is exempt from planning once it is 40 sq.m and is attached to the property. Under the plan, the units must comply with building regulations while the size of the residual private garden space of 25 sq.m must be retained and set back from boundary walls. To discuss this further, Derrick Lynch was joined by Timmy Dooley, Tulla-based Fianna Fáil Minister of State and Donna McGettigan, Sinn Féin spokesperson on Further and Higher Education, Shannon TD.

Clare's Minister of State insists the Government's decision to join a €150bn EU Defence Programme will protect the country against growing threats into the future. Tánaiste and Defence Minister Simon Harris is expected to confirm Ireland's entry into 'Security Action for Europe' today, which will allow the state to acquire military equipment faster and at a lower cost. The SAFE deal only covers specific items such as air defence systems, artillery, ammunition, drones and anti-drone weapons. Tulla based Fianna Fáil Minister Timmy Dooley has been telling Clare FM's Daragh Dolan that Ireland's cyber and security weaknesses have already been exposed by bad international actors.
Clare's Minister of State claims future planned offshore windfarms along the county's coast will have a greater chance of coming to fruition than those proposed to date. It follows the recent decision of Fuinneamh Sceirde Teoranta not to proceed with its 400-megawatt Sceirdre Rocks Windfarm due to "scructural and technical challenges" identified during site investigation work. A national Designated Marine Area Plan, or D-MAP, is currently in the works, with sites off Clare's coast suited to offshore development to be identified by the end of 2027. Tulla-based Fianna Fáil Minister of State at the Department of Climate, Environment and Energy, Timmy Dooley, says once the D-MAP is in place, companies can put forward more informed proposals.
This Friday, June 20th, the historic St. James's Church, Knockjames in Tulla will come alive with music and community spirit for a special charity concert. A member of the Clare minor hurling backroom team says the squad are out to remedy what went wrong during their first encounter with Cork this season. The Banner travel to FBD Semple Stadium on Sunday to face Cork in the All Ireland semi final, with The Rebels having gotten the better of the round robin game in Tulla by 3-24 to 3-17 when the sides met in April. Barry O'Connell, who's brothers with manager Ger, is Head of Performance Analysis for the squad, with the pair having previously worked together when involved in the Clare camogie setup. He says when reviewing the video analysis of the previous defeat, the shortcomings of that performance became immediately apparent.
Rent Pressure Zones are to be extended to cover the entire country. Sweeping new changes will be brought to cabinet for approval today following a meeting of government leaders last night. In a major change to how renting works in the country - every single tenancy will be in a Rent Pressure Zone This means yearly rent increases will be capped at 2 per cent or linked to inflation - whichever is lower. However, rents in newly built homes will only be linked to inflation. To discuss this further, Alan Morrissey was joined by Tulla-based Fianna Fáil Minister of State, Timmy Dooley and Shannon Sinn Féin Representative and Homeless family support worker, Shane Doody. It's feared casual traders could be damaging the viability of permanent businesses in Clare. Fianna Fáil Councillor Tom O'Callaghan has this week called on the local authority to review of its policy in relations to Casual Trading Licences which are permits granted to the likes of food truck operators and stallholders. There are 12 designated casual trading areas in Clare, namely the Ennis Market area, Ballyalla Lake, Ennistymon Town Centre, Doolin Pier, Fanore, Kildysart Square, Kilfenora Square, Killaloe Car Park, the Square in Kilkee, Miltown Malbay, Drumgeely in Shannon and Tulla. Councillor Tom O'Callaghan says he wants to be sure that all casual traders are fully compliant with the law.

To discuss this further, Alan Morrissey was joined by Aine Mae Crowley who had a kidney and pancreas transplant in 2017, based in Miltown and Kirsty Donnellan from Tulla.
Businesses in Ireland are taking a “wait and see” approach to capital investment, amid ongoing uncertainty over US tariffs. That's according to the Government's Annual Progress Report, which has been published. It highlights the unpredictability of US trade policy, as President Donald Trump continues to threaten sweeping tariffs. In the report, the Government has revised down its economic growth forecasts due to global uncertainty and warned that a transatlantic trade war will lead to a further economic weakening. It expects Ireland's domestic economy to expand by 2.5% this year, down from an earlier forecast of 2.9%. In the event of a tariff war between the EU and US, it said growth this year would be forecast at 2%, falling to 1.75% next year. Alan has been discussing this with the Ennis economist and Assistant Professor of Social Policy at UCD, Micheál Collins.. To discuss this further, Alan Morrissey was joined by Tulla-based Fianna Fáil Minister of state, Timmy Dooley.
A comprehensive plan relating to areas suited to offshore wind development along Clare's coast will be completed by the end of 2027. Tulla-based Fianna Fáil Minister of State at the Department of Climate, Environment and Energy, Timmy Dooley, has confirmed that a national Designated Maritime Area Plan, or D-MAP, is in the works, with details to be published this summer. The plan will identify areas along Ireland's entire coastline suitable for offshore renewable energy projects such as offshore wind farms. Speaking at a meeting of Clare's Economic Development Strategic Policy Committee at Moneypoint Power Station, Minister Dooley says it's good news for western counties.
Clare minor hurling manager Ger O'Connell says his side can take 'a lot of learnings' from yesterday's defeat to Cork. The rebels raided Dr.Daly Park in Tulla for a seven point win in their Munster Championship round 3 clash with full forward Callum Coffey netting a hattrick. Next up for the Banner is a trip to Mick Neville Park in Rathkeale to face a Limerick side still searching for their first win of the championship. O'Connell says his side were slightly off the pace and were duly punished by their opponents.
