Send us a textEach year I treat myself to a tarot reading from my friend, Karen Rontowski as a birthday present to myself. It's the perfect way to look back, be present, and look to the year ahead. This year was no different, because as the months have unfolded, her insights continue to resonate. One key bit explained my sense of never fitting in with anything my entire life, is when the cards, and Karen said, "You are a bridge." She explained, I am a bridge between all things. Life and death. Political parties. Between elements. Light and dark. Day and night. She that I can see all sides, literally feel them all, and yet I stand apart and create a bridge of understanding between the two factions or things or ways of being. NO wonder I've never felt like I fit in.The last months of 2024 an into 2025, I am understanding that being a bridge is to lead with empathy, it's to feel into the place where two extremes intersect, and now more than ever, the collective needs to harness the magic in that in between space, lean on that healing, that peace, and let that love power factory jet us to a better tomorrow. This isn't fake toxic positivity I'm speaking of here. This is finding common ground and reminding us that we have more in common than we don't when the outlets with the widest reach scream at us that we don't.The Bridge is something I speak of in my show intro, it's the soul of this podcast - to look at where science and supernatural collide, to stare into the space where a soul and a human form join together to create something greater than one plus one is two. So, for the coming weeks, I'm diving headfirst into those spaces. From life and death, good and bad, angels and demons, earth, air, fire and water, and every other duality, they are coming under the microscope so we can all understand the magic.Let's get into it!Want to learn more? Greetings, metalheads! Welcome back to Metal Massacre, the place where Lucian, the weirdo with a beardo, and Dustin, the tsar of gnar, dive into the chaos and creativity of the metal universe. In this episode, we're flying solo, bringing you a laid-back yet electrifying discussion on our favorite metal album covers of all time. From the iconic to the obscure, we're peeling back the layers of artistry that define the metal genre. Join us as we explore the visual masterpieces that have not only captivated us but have also left an indelible mark on the metal community. From the medieval chaos of Bolt Thrower's "Warmaster" to the vibrant insanity of Necrogoblikon's "The Fundamental Slimes and Humours," we're celebrating the album covers that have shaped our musical tastes and inspired countless artists. Lucian and Dustin share personal stories and insights about these covers, including Lucian's nostalgic connection to Dethklok's debut album and Dustin's love for the iconic System of a Down's "Toxicity." We also delve into the unique artistry of The Used's "Lies for the Liars" and the trippy visuals of Tool's "Lateralus." But that's not all! Dustin gives a brief review of Pale Face Swiss's new album "Cursed," highlighting its aggressive and unique sound that blends elements of Slipknot and Acacia Strain. If you're looking for something to fuel your workout or just need to release some pent-up energy, this album might just be what you need.

In this History of Prints (HoP) episode, Tru and I finish talking about the life and work of William Hogarth, the father of Western sequential art.  We look at and pick apart three series: Industry and Idleness, The Four Stages of Cruelty, and Humours of an Election. Timely, no? Hogarth continues to point out society's faults and baser instincts. He never stopped trying to teach the masses about comportment and judgment. I had two messages come in about Gretna Green after I mentioned it in episode #671. Shel O'Toole wrote: "Hi Marc, It was interesting to hear you refer to Gretna Green.  My knowledge of it was as a place people eloped to.  A quick search of Google confirmed my memories.  It was interesting to discover Gretna is a town built during World War 1. The village of Gretna Green is still thriving and it sounds like a great place to visit. It is certainly on my list of places to visit should I get to fulfill my dream of going to Scotland. I discovered in the past couple of years my maternal grandmother's family is from Ayrshire in Scotland.  They came from a village called Coylton. I look forward to hearing about your whiskey tour and seeing photos of Scotland. I'm really enjoying today's show #671 Thanks for all the great music Marc. Sliãnte" Wayne Myers wrote: "Hey Marc, I was listening to episode 671 while playing soccer today and heard you mention the Scottish village of Gretna Green. There is a fantasy author named Linzi Day who lives there and has her book series set there. I know she is amenable to answering questions, because she answered mine. Her book series is The Midlife Recorder series, which starts with Midlife in Gretna Green. Love the show. Slainte." Mary Lynn Deal sent a message on Patreon: "Hi Marc, I'm doing some 3d printing and office work at home while listening today. Still enjoying every minute. Have a wonderful day, Slainte," Rod Nevin commented on Patreon: "Lovely collection of music! By the way Marc, I have to tell you because I know you would want to know, the tune title for Arise & Go has “Strathspeys” and reels, and the correct pronunciation for strathspey is “strath'spay” … last syllable being what Bob Barker always reminded us to do our pets.

This play explores what happens when we leave behind a childhood passion that was our everything. Dive into this pocket of joy as we discuss beginning a career as an "older" graduate, motherhood, Mags' writing process, touring the world with her play, and her clever #backstagesnax on Instagram.Have you caught up with the previous episodes? Bach's view of the body and how that comes through in his cantatas is being studied by violinist and contributor to Radio 3's Early Music Show, Mark Seow. He joins presenter Naomi Paxton and historians of medicine Alanna Skuse and Michelle Pfeffer, alongside evolutionary biochemist Nick Lane. Together they look at music, metaphors and the idea that vital bodily fluids (blood, phlegm, yellow bile, and black bile) and links with five elements (earth, water, fire, air, and space) could regulate our health. Producer: Luke Mulhall Alanna Skuse is an Associate Professor at the University of Reading. She has researched representations of self-wounding in plays, ballads, moral writings and medical texts from 1580-1740. Her first book is called Constructions of Cancer in Early Modern England: Ravenous Natures and her second Surgery and Selfhood in Early Modern England. Michelle Pfeffer is an early modern historian at Oxford with research interests in the history of science, religion, and scholarship in Europe. Nick Lane is Professor of Evolutionary Biochemistry at University College London. Mark Seow is a violinist and academic who teaches at the University of Cambridge https://markseow.co.uk/about Radio 3's Early Music Show is broadcast each Sunday afternoon at 2pm and available on BBC Sounds.
