Interview by Kris PetersAustralian music icon Diesel kick-started his Bootleg Melancholy Album Tour in December with explosive shows in Avoca Beach and Kiama, where fans got to experience the special musical language he has developed with his band of stalwarts, Richie Vez on bass and Lee Moloney on drums. Presented by New World Artists, Diesel, alongside Vez and Moloney, will resume the Bootleg Melancholy Album Tour this March in Warragul, followed by Melbourne, Launceston, Hobart, Perth, Batemans Bay, Newcastle, Sydney, Wyong, Adelaide with proceedings drawing to a close on Saturday, May 3 in Elizabeth. The two set performance showcases Diesel's impressive career spanning over three decades, with boundless energy and vitality infused into every song, old and new, the audience will be treated to an unforgettable experience shared with music lovers nationwide. “With so much material to draw from, I'm excited to blend new songs with classics,” Diesel shares. “We make quite a bit of sound for a three-piece, and each show will reflect that energy!” Fans can expect a dynamic set list featuring perennial favourites like Tip Of My Tongue, Soul Revival, All Come Together, Man Alive, Never Miss Your Water and Cry In Shame, alongside “new family member” tracks from Bootleg Melancholy.Diesel is also excited to announce an exclusive guitar giveaway with long-standing partner, Fender. Every ticket purchased for the 2025 Bootleg Melancholy Album Tour —including those who have already purchased tickets—will automatically go into the draw to WIN a signed Squire Sonic Stratocaster Electric Guitar, there's one guitar to be won at every show. At the conclusion of the tour, Diesel will personally draw a major prize winner, who will receive a one-on-one Zoom guitar lesson with the Australian legend—a truly unique and exciting opportunity for fans and aspiring musicians alike. One of Australia's greatest success stories, Diesel, has spent three decades weaving his one-of-a-kind musical magic into his rock and blues-fuelled sounds, both as part of the band Johnny Diesel & The Injectors and, more recently, as a solo artist. With multiple #1 ARIA charting albums under his belt, six ARIA award wins and millions of streams alongside a legion of fans, Diesel's creative skillset also expands beyond his own projects, with the talented artist also renowned for his work as a producer and multi-instrumentalist.HEAVY caught up with Diesel on the eve of the first show to find out more. Given the amount of touring Diesel has done throughout his career, we ask if he still gets the same enjoyment out of life on the road."There are some things that I've become more aware of that I don't like," he measured "The good thing about that is you become more aware. You can let it bother you or become more aware of it and… accept, maybe, or take steps to try and avoid. That's the good thing about experience, I suppose. When you first start you just go 'why does that happen?' or 'what do you mean?' Now, I wouldn't say that there's very few variables or surprising things. I think the most challenging thing (laughs)… let's get down to the basics. Watching the carousel go around and your gear doesn't come out. That's always a good start to the day (laughs). Which has happened. Then you think, okay, call this person. Call that person. Call music stores. You start begging and borrowing and then you have to calculate it's gonna come on that flight, but will it make it to the gig in time for the crew? This is all things that have happened, and the crowd, they're not to know. it's not their problem. That's always the biggest challenges. You always allow enough time, of course, but then it becomes like a sliding scale. How much time can you allow because you've got commitments before that and it's also the massive expense of going the day before and things like that. So you've got everyone on hold and you have accommodation and cars for an extra day. These are all big factors for a touring party."In the full interview, Diesel discusses the Bootleg Melancholy Album Tour in more detail, what to expect, the performance time over two sets, balancing each setlist, the other members of his touring band, how to win a signed Squire Sonic Stratocaster Electric Guitar at each show, future music and more including a few music and life lessons learnt along the way.Tickets and more information www.diesel.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.
Grant Rogers worked as a vet in New Zealand before moving to Tasmania to follow his passion to be a farmer. Whilst he admits it was a very steep learning curve, he spent almost 20 years on farm before knowing the time was right to retire and move back into his veterinary practice. Whilst on farm though, he was regularly frustrated by his staff not remembering simple instructions or the seemingly simple steps to move or repair an irrigator, but it's this common frustration that sparked an idea to create Knowby. Knowby is a the tech company providing a web based app for users to create simple step by step instructional guides with short videos, pictures and text which is now used across 30 different industries in 20 countries around the world. For more information head to the website https://www.knowby.co This chat was recorded during the Australian Dairy Conference where Grant was awarded the ADC Innovator Award for the Knowby Platform. Ancret Shipton farms in the Bega Valley, not far from where she grew up, but she never envisioned herself as a farmer. That was until she met Michael, who just wanted to be in dairy. Ancret however considered herself the farmers wife; the sounding board, the support and backstop for Michael's farming dreams. That was until he suddenly passed away after receiving a cancer diagnosis a short 9 weeks earlier that would change their lives forever. In this incredibly emotive chat, Ancret shares how they progressed from workers, to sharefarmers and into farm ownership, the grief she has experienced since Michael's death, the 2 pages of information and 3 pieces of advice he left her with, how she's managed the farm for the last 4 years with unwavering support from her farming advisors and local community and how she's dealing with the secondary grief of farming without Michael. We recorded this chat late last year, and since then I've often reflected on the resilience Ancret has shown and the many lessons we can all take away from this heartbreaking story, so let's get into it. Andrea Vallance started her working career as a woodwork teacher, but quickly moved into farming after marrying Bruce. Although he wasn't in dairy at the time, agriculture was in his blood, so when an opportunity came to share-farm in Mepunga they jumped at it. They've since built up the business, now currently in an equity partnership, by continually seeking advice and upskilling and always focusing on an efficient grass based system. Andrea is deeply involved within her community and we chat about the Timboon Agricultural Project and Demo Dairy Foundation and her passion for providing educational and career opportunities for the next generation. Let's just start this with a confession. I'm deeply in love with photography. And this love affair started young, as a kid growing up in a small regional town in Victoria. I used to pour over the pictures in the National Geographic—those photos were my window to the wider world. They showed me the power of a single image to connect people across cultures, continents and time.My fascination with images grew after my grandparents lost everything, photo albums included, in the Ash Wednesday bushfire. It was such a huge loss, and growing up without access to those family stories made me realise how important photography is to engage us with our history. Since then, I've felt a deep responsibility to document our stories so nothing is forgotten. This eventually led me to found Lauren Murphy Photography in 2013 while also working as the staff photographer at the Warragul and Drouin Gazette. Eight years later, it's a busy photography studio specialising in compelling, authentic portrait and documentary-style imagery for people and brands across Melbourne, the Gippsland and Warragul region, and beyond. While I've had a camera attached to my hip in some form or another since high school, I also credit my time as a social worker supporting the refugee community for five years (along with my full-time role as a mother) for informing the way I approach my photography clients every day—with compassion, empathy and a desire for honest connection. It matters to me that people feel truly themselves in their photos—empowered, confident and ready to tell their story. This pushes me to understand the real person, find the beauty in them and share it with the world. And what a gift that is! The first day I launched my business it was vital for me to have my values ingrained in what I do. I will always welcome people of any age, gender, sexual identity, and cultural background. Our world is made beautiful by diversity, the more we can embrace it the better.I also wish to acknowledge the current Elders in my local community and thank them for being able to follow my dreams on the tribal lands of the Bratowoloong people. I pay my respects to their Elders both past and present and look forward to potential collaborations with the Kurnai community. My studio is not just for me, it's grown into much bigger things with the MAST.SocialsWebsite: https://www.laurenmurphyphotography.com.au/LinkedIn: Lauren Murphy FB: Lauren Murphy PhotographyInsta: Lauren Murphy Photography @laurenmurphyphotographyEnjoy the visual here on Youtube

Joe Meggetto farms in Warragul, where he purchased his farm in 1991, before combining with his father, down the road in 1994. And for the last 26 years worked alongside his father Mario until his sudden death last year. Throughout those years he has taken every opportunity as it presented to purchase land and expand the business, working with the very simple farming philosophy, to make milk as cheaply as possible concentrating on animal welfare, soil health and the environment and waiting to upgrade infrastructure, to do it right the first time. But he hasn't always loved dairy, and in this chat he openly shares how he would regularly cry in the tractor and quietly struggled for a long time, at one point carrying a bullet around in his pocket. So just a heads up, he does openly share his thoughts of suicide and the struggles he has had with his mental health. But also shares his new passion for talking to and helping other farmers with their struggles and the positive change to his mental health since talking to his GP and openly sharing his journey in the inaugural Gippsland Jersey, Mental Health Calendar in 2018. It's a bit of a long chat, but so worth it and I feel incredibly privileged to bring it to and would encourage you, if you are struggling with your mental health, to chat with someone you trust, seek help from a GP or a mental health professional and get some help. Joe also gives some really great practical tips throughout the chat In the spirit of reconciliation we would like to acknowlegde the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. The Traditional Custodians of Country are the people of the Kurnai Nation True crime podcasts or episodes usually focus on just murders and missing people but that's not all there is in the field of crimes. Haunted Hills started out exploring a theory that criminals kept the legend going to give them space to keep on distilling illegally, making illegal coins. It shares a little about the small towns, as Robert Kennedy once said "Every society gets the kind of criminal it deserves. What is equally true is that every community gets the kind of law enforcement it insists on." While I encourage people to play judge and jury, we are not re-adjudicating these crimes most of them occurred too long ago to be appropriate however, these discussions create a contrast of values.
Mick Floyd from Sandown Dogs looks ahead to the feature racing in Victoria, including the Group 3 Warragul St Leger on Friday night.
Warragul formed as a town in 1882. It also was built around the railway line. The land as the Kurnai Nations people would have known and utilised had large thick trees with their stone axes, their dwellings and communities were established on the hills (these details were published in the obituary of the first white settlers house and stores). The land was quite damp which created boggy conditions for hooved animals drawing carts that the settlers brought with them. Described by early journalists as a swamp and virgin bush wilderness. Brandy Creek was originally settled first as people pushed further south into the actual location of Warragul as the railway line was out through in 1878. Let's meet the butter makers, farmers, and painters. Join us on live podcast: https://hauntedhillspod.eventbrite.com.au/
