Long known as one of the world's finest Jazz Pianists, Rick DellaRatta also began to receive major recognition as a composer when his symphonic piece “Permutata” was recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra at the Beatles famed Abbey Rd., Studios in 1999, and as a unique and important vocalist in 2004 when he was included in a definitive listing of the greatest jazz singers of all time in Scott Yanow's Book “Jazz Singers”. Jazz for Peace rose from the ashes of 9/11 as a poem and is now considered "The most significant cultural event of our time!", Jazz For Peace. Rick witnessed the extraordinary events of 9/11 from his rooftop less than 1/4 mile away from Ground Zero on that fateful morning when the words of a poem titled “Jazz for Peace” that he wrote on that day went on to lead him to over 850 concerts across the Globe to help the world's most outstanding causes, educational presentations, and instrument donation programs for children.Through his life long endeavor to help advance people to their highest potential through the understanding of Jazz as well as spreading peace worldwide through his "Jazz for Peace World Tour", Rick DellaRatta is considered to be an innovator and a visionary, a designation that became known by many when he was included by The Foundation Center in their list of the top musician philanthropists of our time along with Bono (U2), Elton John, Peter Gabriel and Sting.Socials:Website: https://rickdellaratta.com/Website: jazzforpeace.orgLinkedIn: Rick DellaRatta FB: Rick DellaRatta https://jazzforpeace.wordpress.com/about/unprecedented-achievements/Enjoy the visual here on Youtube

I returned from a trip to Nepal less that a week ago, and I have to say it opened a can of worms. While I loved Nepal overall, I have come away with a lot of questions about traditions, religion and humanity, and how they intertwine. Sometimes not in a good way. I really believe Nepal is a great place, but it was also an intense catalyst for pain, growth and intense curiosity and interest in why we never stop to question our beliefs. I was ready for this trip, but it impacted me far differently than I expected it to.Mentions:Magic Marble Foundation https://www.magicmarblefoundation.org/Community Homestay Network https://communityhomestay.com/Panauti Homestay https://communityhomestay.com/homestays/panauti

This week I spent 2 days at a Changemaker workshop facilitated by the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation. It was challenging but in the most wonderful way. I had a lovely realisation when my ‘list of things I need as a changemaker' made it clear that it's all about the journey.I also found out a life changing secret about the humble sticky note!
This episode includes a conversation between Sophie and Mike as they review my book ‘Get Off The Bench' and pull out the key insights. Frankly, I'd forgotten how much juicy stuff was in this book since writing it in 2019. But there's a kicker… you'll have to listen to find out!Full of wonderful little gems and one great big surprise at the end!
Jeff Morgan's journey from the streets of Redfern to becoming a highly sought-after speaker is one of transformation, resilience, and hope. Growing up in one of Sydney's most notorious suburbs, Jeff's early years were marred by hardship, crime, and stints in maximum-security prisons. His criminal activities escalated from petty theft to more serious offences, including car theft and bank robberies, which led to 18 years in and out of prison. However, during his final incarceration, Jeff had a life-changing moment that set him on a new course. After the death of both his parents from cancer while he was in prison, Jeff turned to education and self-reflection. He began studying nutrition, discovering the power of learning, taking responsibility, and shifting his perspective on life. With newfound purpose, Jeff emerged from prison in 2010, dedicated to helping others, especially young people, make better choices.Today, Jeff is a respected speaker, delivering transformative talks across Australia, focusing on leadership, mindset, health, wellbeing, and empowerment, with a special emphasis on Indigenous youth.Socials:Website: https://jeffreymorgan.com.au/LinkedIn: Jeffrey Morgan FB: Jeffrey Morgan - The Lifestyle Program Insta: Jeffrey Morgan - Mindset Coach @thejeffreymorgan Enjoy the visual here on Youtube
Founder and CEO of Pulsatile Innovations, Elleesha King, has been an ambulance paramedic and registered nurse for over ten years. While often working alone in remote and rural areas, Elleesha found herself having to juggle multiple tasks during cardiac arrest emergencies, especially when trying to accurately check for a pulse. She began to wonder if this was a common problem and why there wasn't a simple tool to help rescuers in these situations. After looking into the issue and talking with colleagues, Elleesha realised that many healthcare professionals shared the same struggle in checking a pulse quickly. Some guidelines recommend finding a pulse within 5 seconds, but Elleesha questioned how realistic that was in high-pressure situations. Since coming up with the idea for Pulse Tile, Elleesha has heard many stories from colleagues and reflected on her own experiences where such a device could have made a critical difference in saving lives or preventing severe disabilities after cardiac arrest. In 2023, Elleesha took a big step by raising funds through extra work shifts and self-funded the development of an initial prototype. Since then, she and the Pulsatile Innovations team have been building connections in the medical tech and startup world, seeking more funding and building strong partnerships to bring Pulse Tile to market as a life-saving product.Socials:Website: https://www.thepulsetile.com/LinkedIn: Elleesha KingLinkedIn: Pulsatile Innovations Insta: Pulsatile Innovations @pulse.tile FB: Pulsatile Innovations Enjoy the visual here on Youtube
In this episode I discuss the concept of happiness, emphasising internal contentment and making life adjustments, preferring continuous change to New Year's resolutions. Reflecting on 2024, there were many successes like our Cambodia retreat, but there were also challenges such as losing our beautiful donkey Jade, and my father-in-law. For 2025, we aim to simplify life by decluttering, automating tasks, and reducing stress. We plan to spend more time together, take more dog-friendly holidays, and implement low-maintenance garden solutions. Kerryn also mentions practical steps like buying a fly net and pre-booking holidays to reduce stress and improve happiness.

In this episode I reflect on our recent Reset Retreat to Cambodia, and our work with the charity Heartprint. Despite Cambodia's history of violence and poverty, I'm exceptionally impressed by the warmth and resilience of the people. We took along an amazing group of women, and together we visited significant historical sites like Angkor Wat and the killing fields, and learned about the country's tumultuous past. The trip also included a visit to a lotus farm and an elephant sanctuary, among many other wonderful adventures. In closing, I can't emphasise enough the importance of privilege, kindness, and community connection, and urge listeners to be mindful and generous during the holiday season.

Let's just start this with a confession. I'm deeply in love with photography. And this love affair started young, as a kid growing up in a small regional town in Victoria. I used to pour over the pictures in the National Geographic—those photos were my window to the wider world. They showed me the power of a single image to connect people across cultures, continents and time.My fascination with images grew after my grandparents lost everything, photo albums included, in the Ash Wednesday bushfire. It was such a huge loss, and growing up without access to those family stories made me realise how important photography is to engage us with our history. Since then, I've felt a deep responsibility to document our stories so nothing is forgotten. This eventually led me to found Lauren Murphy Photography in 2013 while also working as the staff photographer at the Warragul and Drouin Gazette. Eight years later, it's a busy photography studio specialising in compelling, authentic portrait and documentary-style imagery for people and brands across Melbourne, the Gippsland and Warragul region, and beyond. While I've had a camera attached to my hip in some form or another since high school, I also credit my time as a social worker supporting the refugee community for five years (along with my full-time role as a mother) for informing the way I approach my photography clients every day—with compassion, empathy and a desire for honest connection. It matters to me that people feel truly themselves in their photos—empowered, confident and ready to tell their story. This pushes me to understand the real person, find the beauty in them and share it with the world. And what a gift that is! The first day I launched my business it was vital for me to have my values ingrained in what I do. I will always welcome people of any age, gender, sexual identity, and cultural background. Our world is made beautiful by diversity, the more we can embrace it the better.I also wish to acknowledge the current Elders in my local community and thank them for being able to follow my dreams on the tribal lands of the Bratowoloong people. I pay my respects to their Elders both past and present and look forward to potential collaborations with the Kurnai community. My studio is not just for me, it's grown into much bigger things with the MAST.SocialsWebsite: https://www.laurenmurphyphotography.com.au/LinkedIn: Lauren Murphy FB: Lauren Murphy PhotographyInsta: Lauren Murphy Photography @laurenmurphyphotographyEnjoy the visual here on Youtube

It's amazing how often we feel guilty about something and we let it consume us. It's even worse when you've created a narrative in your own mind about letting people down and not living up to the expectations of others. Yes, I teach this stuff, but yet I am human. Sometimes it's absolutely OK to put your own needs first and fill up YOUR cup in order to serve more people. If only we could remember that more often!

It seems we're always quick to judge or blame others, and just as quick to sit in denial or to justify our position. Often even when we know were are in the wrong! But how often are we accountable for our words and actions? And do we take responsibility for things that need to sit with us? What about owning up when we make a mistake. The latter are all things that sit above the metaphorical line, and being above the line helps us to perform better and build stronger relationships. But is it OK to go below the line?
Happiness is that elusive thing we all chase, but what does it actually mean? What if we replaced that never-ending search with celebration and seeking moments of joy. Those things that bring us energy, put a smile on our dial, and fill our cups. What then, are we doing that is compromising our happiness and our opportunity to find those moments of joy, and can we do more of the things that are contributing to our wellbeing?Mention:Sam Horn
What if we could live our lives for ourselves, and not living to please the expectations of others? Do we even know what that would look like? The number one regret of the dying, according to author Bronnie Ware, is “I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me”. When we know what we stand for and what values drive us, we have more confidence to stand in our space and assert and manage our own lives the way we want it to be. Ultimately we want to go to bed at night and sleep with ourselves and like who we are. This level of peace can only be found through authenticity and the courage to truly be ourselves.
We all have emotions and they are actually a great thing. Emotions are often labelled positive and negative because of the way they make us feel, but all emotions serve a wonderful purpose - to motivate us to take action to avoid or gain. All emotions come with a physical sensation, thoughts, and a behaviour. When we get an emotional charge, we can choose to suppress, react or respond. The good news is, we always have the choice.
Fear of failure is a very real thing and impacts almost all of us. But what if we pushed past that fear and took a risk to do something important to us? That's where growth lives, and satisfaction, and confidence. We allow our beliefs and past experiences to determine what we try into the future and so many incredible dreams are never brought to life because of that fear. We miss grand opportunities and can end up chronically sick simply because we allow fear to paralyse us. But what if we put one foot in front of the other and tip toed in to see if we might actually succeed?
This week my partner and I went to Metung Hot Springs. We booked it couple of months ago thinking it would be great to go in winter as the outside temperature would be freezing but it would be lovely and warm in the hot pools. However, we didn't take into account that it might bucket down rain, because it is winter, and that we might actually decide to sit in the car at Metung, chomping on a pie while watching the pelicans rather than immerse ourselves in the geo-thermal pools. What we needed was a big attitude change and a different story to tell ourselves.
Challenging behaviour is something we all face, not only due to another person's behaviour, but also our own. None of us are perfect and we all produce triggers that set off other people's hot buttons. But what's under the behaviour? Before we go judging and criticising others, and pointing our fingers at them believing we are in the right and they are dysfunctional, maybe we need to understand what drives behaviour and how our own interpretations and perspectives assist us, rightly or wrongly, in determining if a behaviour os good or bad. Some great tips in this one as well as an empathy activity at the end.

Self-love is really hard for so many. But where do we start, and how can we start with something that is achievable and believable? Because if deep down we don't believe we deserve it, we struggle to attain it. And what about affirmations? Do they work? Starting with setting boundaries is something most people can do and it can work.

For over 30 years, Simon Rinne survived mental illness. Undiagnosed Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Depression, and Anxiety saw him turn from happy-go-lucky kid to dependent on alcohol to feel "normal". A parental break-up saw him become "the man of the house" - and this is where things turned dark.Social norms that tell boys and men to "suck it up" kept me quiet... and in that quiet, Simon's mind turned to suicidal thoughts. But he survived and after 20 years of suffering in silence, he finally reached out for help in 2012. Simon was diagnosed, and started seeing a therapist. However, Simon expected the therapist to wave a magic wand and cure him. That didn't happen, so Simon kept doing what he was doing. It wasn't until Simon became a dad that he started to reflect on how he was showing up. 1 year later, he burned out. This is where Simon discovered mindfulness, and started to turn from survivor to thriver.Simon is now 40 years old, sober, and using his pain to fuel his passion - talking about mental health! I went on a cruise ship around 40 years ago and hated it. Everybody on board had gastro, the flu, or sea sickness. I had the latter and needed an injection to ease the vomiting and nausea. But, it doesn't end there or end well. I had an allergic reaction to the vaccine and blew up in huge red welts all over my body. I was not interested in sunning myself on the deck, or gracing the beaches of the pacific islands. Instead, I waited patiently to dock at each new port, and armed with a video recorder the size of a TV news camera, I ran solo to explore the undiscovered distant region of the island while fancying myself as a roving reporter.I vowed never to sail the high sea again.Fast forward to 2023, my partner says “I booked us on a family cruise”. My worst nightmare come true! However, I decided to put all my past negative grumblings behind me and give it a go. Have I changed my mind? You'll have to take a listen…
A graduate of Boston College, Burke started out in television as a production Assistant while working other odd jobs, from bar bouncer, golf caddy to factory assemblyman, to sustain the meager TV industry income. His height and physical build came in handy, scoring him a gig loading grip trucks for Powerhouse Films, which further exposed him to commercials and films in and around the New England area. He soon became the ‘go to' guy of Production Assistants in Boston, working every motion picture produced in Massachusetts. After a move to Los Angeles in 1990, Burke quickly moved up the production ranks, working as First Assistant Director on an independent film with Johnny Depp. Nicknamed “the Irish Bull” by his west coast colleagues, Burke went on to secure Assistant Director credits including, Jerry Bruckheimer's acclaimed TV series Skin, Close to Home, CSI Miami, and the pilot for Desperate Housewives. He spent his last five years on Chicago PD. In 2003, Burke was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Three years of doctor visits, nine operations and chemotherapy treatments were all included in part of his rigorous 14-hour shoot day routine. To no surprise, given his well known tenacity, Burke conquered the disease into remission mostly by himself. The experience empowered him to take inventory of his life, specifically his trade, leading him to approach his career from an alternative perspective that was better aligned with his personal values. Best known in the industry for his talent, perseverance and respectful collaboration with colleagues on all levels.Socials:Website: https://tommyburke.com/LinkedIn: Tommy Burke Insta: Tommy Burke @tommy_burke_dga Podcast: Not Just Sunglasses & Autographs podcast Enjoy the visual here on Youtube
For way too long, toxic masculinity has run rife. Men have been taught to be tough, not to cry, don't show emotions and all the other damaging rhetoric. They've also been subjected to abuse and put downs for showing signs of kindness and warmth. This has to stop. The four men I talk about in this episode are indeed putting a stop to the harmful narrative that causes many men to self-loath and in some cases, take their own life. Mark MacManus, Matt Ferguson, Leigh McDonald and Steven Baker aren't afraid to cry, and are actively sharing their stories in an effort to support men and others to ask for help and believe in themselves. Essentially they want people to know they are ok just the way they are.Socials:The Restoration Project https://www.facebook.com/restorationgippsland/Build Grit with Steven Bakerhttps://www.facebook.com/buildGRIThttps://www.buildgrit.com.au/Matthew Fergusonhttps://www.instagram.com/mattyferg21/?hl=enChronic Traumatic EncephalopathyAccording to the Boston University CTE Center, Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) is a degenerative brain disease found in athletes, military veterans, and others with a history of repetitive brain trauma. Emotional Intelligence can be quite an elusive thing. We all think we have it, many don't, and some excel at it. But what does it really mean? In this episode I discuss how we all have emotions, they are all positive even thought they don't always feel that way, and that we always have a choice about how we respond. I talk about how suppressing emotions can make you sick and you will always have leakage, often at the most inconvenient time, and how reacting can create very damaging outcomes. There are 6 questions for you to answer if you feel like digging a little deeper. This episode is not a comprehensive look at emotional intelligence, more so a brief snapshot to inspire more exploration.

Up until 2003, I was a lazy Buddhist and a Trauma/ ICU/ ER Nurse who inconsistently meditated, read the occasional self help book, and was too overworked to recognize or remember my gifts. I was a single Mom, exhausted, and not seeking anything remotely resembling the metaphysical except maybe a good night's sleep with a prophetic dream. Abruptly, on a random Tuesday, everything changed. In October 2003 I found out my closest friend at work was murdering people. This was a true friend I confided in, shared secrets with, and trusted with my life. I adored him. After I helped the Detectives from the New Jersey Prosecution put him behind bars, I set out on a magical path to answer my scariest question:How the hell could I love someone so dark? The journey down the Rabbit Hole to that answer brought me face-to-face with spiritual gurus, energy healers, visionaries, and real-life, spontaneously awakened, modern day Buddhas. I read book after book and took every workshop I could find. I had set out to heal myself and in that process, I had many Spiritually Transformative Events. I also was shown my own gifts, my own team of Spirit Guides, and surprising intuitive abilities which I effortlessly access every. single. moment. of. every. day. I now have created a life filled with abundance, exotic travels, and beautiful relationships. My amazingly full and adventurous life was created through a deep understanding of this Matrix we live in. I DID receive and answer to my question, and it was surprisingly beautiful and simple. The answer appeared loudly during an energy healing session.“Without being inspired by the intense darkness, I would not have been open to receiving all that this physical/spiritual Realm had to offer me.”‘The darkness in him was also in me and it was leading me to the light within this world.'I am now a Reiki Master, a Hypnotherapist, NLP Practitioner, Meditation Instructor, DreamSculptor Practitioner, Reconnective Healer, Integrative Energy Healer, Past Life Regressionist, Crystal Language Reader, Medical Intuitive, and learned "The Work" from Byron Katie. Pulling from dozens of different learned modalities and my own special access to the other Realms, I now help others develop a unique Guidance Plan for deeper connections.
