WHY Change is hard. Episode # 054 Yes, there are moments (many millions of moments) when change feels very, very hard. I know. I feel it too. But I need you to know: that’s just a feeling and you can change it. You can make change easier. You can make it easier right now. How you can start easily and effectively changing your life! Change happens one choice at a time. Ask yourself Do I have one good choice in me? What is it? What’s my next great choice? What am I able and willing to do today to make progress? Keep it simple. Stop convincing yourself that change is hard and start focusing on one small choice you can make now or next. You are always just a few great choices away from feeling better and all you have to do is execute one at a time. Stop making change much harder than it needs to be. What is your BIG goal Think of 3 goal posts to help you get there Start where you are at Journaling with Intention Build Confidence Ask Yourself the Hard Questions Stay consistent https://forms.gle/63mEF3LymB7K5pqu5
Are you scaring your customers? Does this sound familiar... You do deep discovery around pain You uncover lots of impactful problems You develop a clear "Why Change" statement But there is tension, there is friction, the system is fighting your great idea Although all of these things are often necessary in sales But...have we stopped to think: The business chose a different solution for a reason Is the person that made the decision still there, and how will this look on them Did our "Why Change" statement cause fear in the business (laying people off, massive change management) In this episode of PsychAndSales David Weiss & Dr. Ehrin Weiss speak with the founder of Demo Solutions, Ed Jaffe about the Triune Brain Theory which focuses on the different centers of the brain and how the thing we say, colors we show, words we use, the pictures and themes we present trigger different sections of the brain For instance it may be hard: For someone to hear your amazing pitch when they are scared of being fired To envision a change when someone is already feeling burnt-out In this episode we talk about better positioning, de-risking deals to get past fear, knowing your audience, speaking their language, and preparing for these situations so your message lands better with your audience

Societal issues surrounding autism not only create challenges for children, but their entire family. Parents of children with autism experience anxiety and uncertainty, especially as their children grow up to become adults with autism. Chances are, they will survive their parents. Then, what will happen? Where and how will they live as adults with autism? In this episode, Toby Mathis of Anderson Advisors talks to Jim Richardson from Neuro Diverse Living. Jim has more than 35 years of consulting services experience and has been investing in real estate for 40+ years. As a principal in a commercial real estate capital consulting firm, Jim raises and manages discretionary investment capital. As a parent of a grown son with autism, Jim’s business vision and personal mission is to connect in a meaningful way. Highlights/Topics: What will happen to Jim’s son, Michael? Every parent raising an autistic child has or will consider available options to plan for future living accommodations. What are options most parents consider? Many families make plans with a sibling, such as a brother, sister, aunt, uncle, or other family member, which may only be temporary. What about a permanent move? Jim wanted to find a place where Michael could move to and theoretically live for the rest of his life. Why? Change for an autistic adult can turn their world upside down. Once might be fine, but not multiple moves. What about group homes? These temporary properties tend to be for people with severe disabilities. Unless Michael gets to the point where he needs that next level of care, a group home can’t accommodate him. What’s a parent to do? Create their own long-term housing solution to meet Michael’s needs as an adult with autism. Jim and his wife, Nancy, started Neuro Diverse Living. Does Michael live with Jim and Nancy? Yes, because they are setting up their first personal care home, also known as residential assisted living (RAL). Will the personal care home only be for adults with autism? Neuro Diverse Living is a 501(c)(3) charity with a blended residence of autistic adults and neurodiverse people. Will Neuro Diverse Living offer 24/7 care? To be a legitimate business, Jim needs to follow local, state, and federal regulations. Jim’s business will provide housing based on the level of daily living that each individual needs. How many people have autism? Nationally, on average, 1 out of 49 people are on the autistic spectrum. In the next 10 years, 1 out of every 4 or 5 adults could have autism. Why create an intentional design for Neuro Diverse Living? Jim intends to make the design model available to other families that want to do something similar. Is it difficult for autistic adults to get a job? For every 10 jobs available, about two could go to an autistic individual. Why does Jim have a separate group that buys properties for him? There’s a tremendous need/opportunity for long-term leases for autistic and neurodiverse homes. Did autism used to be confused with schizophrenia? Yes, years ago. People thought it was some sort of major mental defect. They didn't know what it was or how to treat it. It’s HERE - the exciting news that I’ve been waiting to share with my TAS followers for some time has finally arrived! I am thrilled to announce the launch of my newly re-branded podcast, The Rock Your Brand Podcast! While it’s sad to say goodbye to The Amazing Seller, the truth is, the change is for the better. When you think about the change in your life, you can either face good change or negative change. This change is nothing but positive for me and the crew associated with TAS. We’ll still deliver the interviews and insights you’ve come to know and love over the years but now they’ll be more aimed at brand building specifically. On this episode, you’ll hear as I explain what led to the podcast re-branding, why I’m so excited about the future, and so much more. I’m so glad you are along for the ride as we usher in this new season with The Rock Your Brand Podcast! Why Change? I know that The Amazing Seller Podcast has been a mainstay for many of you over the years and I’m so glad that you’ve been along for the ride. It has been an absolute joy and honor to help hundreds and even thousands of men and women over the years, step out on their own and start something brand new. For years I’ve challenged people to embrace change and to boldly step into a new chapter - now I’ve got a chance to follow my own advice. I’m not running away from change, I’m embracing it and I hope you’ll do the same! Pushing through resistance Every time you set out to do things differently or to start a new direction, you are going to encounter resistance. Sometimes resistance comes in the form of external resistance and sometimes it shows up as internal resistance. How have you dealt with resistance in the past? I felt a ton of resistance as I considered and then embraced the idea of re-branding The Amazing Seller Podcast but I knew that I had to push through the resistance to see positive change. Learn more about the story from TAS to The Rock Your Brand Podcast by listening to this episode! Come along for the ride! Why not start something brand new instead of “Re-branding” the TAS podcast? Good question! I decided to re-brand the podcast because I don’t want to leave anyone behind. If you’ve been coming to TAS for years or if this is your first episode - I want everyone to come along for the ride. Also - if you’ve been paying close attention, you know that TAS has been changing the focus over the last year or so to emphasize branding. Date Published: May 8, 2020 Episode #131 Hello, and welcome to Federal Contracting Made Easy, where we take the complex world of government contracting and break it down into simple steps that anyone can master. Today’s topic is on “DUNS Numbers are Going Away.” The General Services Administration (GSA) is replacing the DUNS number with a new 12-character identifier ID. How soon will this happen? GSA states that this is happening by December 2020. Why Change? The DUNS was created by Dun & Bradstreet in 1962. It has been the official entity verification number since it was required by the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) back in 1998. Why the change? GSA opened the contract to new vendors last year. As a result, they awarded the new contract to Ernst & Young, which will administer the new ID number and manage the transition from Dun & Bradstreet. Next, we will look at the new Unique Entity ID. Unique Entity ID The new Unique Entity ID will be structured to avoid confusion with the tax ID number and Commercial and Government Entity or CAGE codes. All systems that use the DUN’s numbers nine-digit code will have to be updated to use the new 12-digit code. Where to Obtain the New Unique Entity ID? GSA is changing SAM.gov to allow organizations to request the Unique Entity ID when they register in SAM.gov. Whereas, to obtain a DUNS Number, it takes about two to five days if requested through the web or immediately if you call Dun & Bradstreet. GSA says that they understand that this change can be confusing and that they want to provide as much information as possible during the transition. GSA created a website where anyone can go to find out more information. My Thoughts I believe this will be a good thing if it handled correctly. I hate being contacted by Duns & Bradstreet, pushing their services on me. Many small business owners purchased their services, believing that the Government required it. Although Dun & Bradstreet has gotten better about letting potential clients know that their service is not necessary to receive a DUNS number. It is still frustrating to get a solicitation phone call for a service that you don’t want. The number should be system generated when filling out a new registration. That would be optimal, in my opinion. This change should have happened years ago—way to go GSA. Do you want to read more articles by the author? Breaking habits is hard! Whether it’s stop-smoking, cutting out sweets, exercising regularly, going to bed on time or putting your clothes away instead of tossing them on the closet floor, there are a million different things that we intend to do, that we oftentimes don’t! And contrary to popular belief, failing to break a bad habit does not mean that we are weak-willed or that we don’t want what we say we want. Practical ways to break bad habits easily If you have you ever felt like you were stuck in a pattern, locked into certain behaviors, or were living in an endless loop of familiarity and same-old-same-old, that you couldn’t seem to overcome, then this show is for you! For most people, even though the desire to change might be a strong, conscious desire, they still want that change to be as seamless and pain-free as possible. Most people stay in their comfortably familiar territory because it is comfortable and familiar! Change is stressful, and nobody in their right mind chooses to move themselves from a safe, familiar location to an unknown destination. Why Change is Difficult for Humans And therein lies the problem! For most of us, even though we want the change, we are too scared to move ourselves out of what we know and into something we don’t know. Which is where Vidya Ragu, one of India’s Leading Learning and Development Specialists comes in. In today’s show, she and Lora discuss practical ways to make that jump – from the safety of our known world to the joy, satisfaction and safety of the unknown, that we desire, but are too scared to attain. Vidya is the author of the upcoming book, Shed Fears not Tears, which helps people move into the life they desire with ease and grace. She is an International trainer, an award winning entrepreneur, a certified mentor, and has been featured as an expert panelist on many news and television shows, as well as on radio and in leading print media.

I have Elly Turnbull joining me on the show to discuss the brilliant summer internship opportunities which are available through the Change 100 scheme which is run by the Leonard Cheshire Trust, one of the UK's biggest disability charities. The scheme is targeted at giving talented disabled graduates the opportunities to kick-start their careers at some of the UK's biggest companies. Now not all listeners are going to be eligible for the scheme, but don’t stop listening, as you might be surprised at the wide range of disabilities and long-term health conditions that they are looking for, and as we discuss on the show, disability is such a personal thing and often people aren’t confident about disclosing them, so stay tuned. In the episode, we discuss all aspects of the Change 100 scheme, from what it is, the eligibility criteria, how many people they are taking on and how you apply. We delve into the application process in detail, looking at how to stand out in the online application, why you need to really know and think about the 7 competencies, and why you need to be using all of the 200 words at your disposal for each question. We explore what you can expect at a Change 100 assessment centre and why it really will be the nicest assessment centre you will ever attend. We discuss the measures they will put in place to make sure you feel comfortable on the day and how you can stand out and perform. While Darren is on sabbatical, we're in a series called Voices - exploring the different voices around us (call them wisdom, if you want) that might act as guides on the pilgrimage to the heart of Christ. Each week, the speaker will act as the guide to exploring a different voice of their choosing. The guest speakers invited are some of the voices we want people to hear. TEXT 2 Chronicles 5:11-14 Mark 7:31-37 TAKEAWAYS Be mindful this week about when you feel the need to interrupt or interject in a conversation. Ask, "Why?" Change one routine this week. Learn to learn from poverty’, Speak to a church that closes and excludes, And makes rejection its own litany: ‘Be opened, opened to the multitudes For whom I died but whom you have dismissed Be opened, opened, opened,’ how you sigh And still we do not hear you. We have missed Both cry and crisis, we make no reply. Take us aside, for we are deaf and dumb Spit on us Lord and touch each tongue-tied tongue.

2 Broad Categories Questions You Ask Yourself Questions You Ask Others Beneath each are two subcategories – questions we ask about our businesses and questions about our personal lives. And, within each category there are questions we ask for particular purposes: to ignite or stimulate creativity, to calm or motivate certain behaviors, to help us to achieve goals and desired results and outcomes, to improve our performance or the performance of others…and on and on. Both basic types of questions are important because they shape the answers you’ll get, frame the experience you’ll have, as well as the sense and expectation of the future. This is also true about how you help others to frame their experiences and to enjoy more out of life. Asking better questions is a fundamental skill that has the power to make everything better. When you ask better questions it can be more motivating to yourself and other, you can trigger higher and better levels of creativity, it can help you to manage physiological reactions to stress and circumstances that otherwise seemed beyond your control And when you can do these things you become better at everything and in every role. You’re a better leader, negotiator, business owner, problem solver, father, mother spouse, partner and parent. We’ll also discuss some of the science behind this and why that’s helpful but not necessary to use these techniques more often and with less effort. So where do we begin? Why questions matter and how they work? We habitually ask bad questions, and disempowering questions in many areas of our lives and better questions in our lives when we’re more successful This matters because questions are programming for the Reticular Activating System (RAS). Getting the RAS working for you behind the scenes and outside of conscious awareness is a powerful point of leverage. How? Begin to notice (a bit more often) the space between stimulus and response. Also notice where you’re asking way better questions and notice how that correlates to positive outcomes, emotions and results in that area. You’ll begin to catch yourself asking questions and you can use some of the patterns/templates and samples here instead of the less useful questions you’ve been asking. Rubber band and pavlock. Example: You see a person at work and begin to fell irritated. In the past you might ask “What is the matter with him? He’s so irritating…. everyday.” But, when you catch yourself you might ask instead “At the moment he’s starting to do something that often irritates me BUT …What’s something I like about him? Is there anything about what he’s saying that can be helpful? Useful? Inspiring?” When you’re having an internal dialogue, you might find yourself asking “Why do I always do X (a negative behavior)?” You can break this pattern by asking, “DO I really always do it? What do I ask myself in other situations? What about this can I control? How can I use this feeling to achieve a solution? Or…”How can I change the way I fell about this?” Meta & Strategic Level: Asking questions about doing something in a kinder, easier yet more effective way rather than harder. Asking questions about more and sooner. Asking questions that trigger gratitude and a more resourceful state. Why this matters: Asking questions to deliver focus or a more general multiple perspective view. What about the situation is in your control and out of your control? Why? Self: How can I be kinder to myself and others? What would happen if I did more of those things more often? Could I be even kinder than that? What would happen then? What are the good and bad aspects of this? How can I make these questions more effective? What would _____________ do or how would she solve this problem? If I could assemble a group of talented people to help with this who would they be? What would tey say or do? How would they challenge one another? How might this failure set me up for future success? Has that ever happened in the past? What if it did or you could? Others: When they seem to be making something more difficult than it needs to be: What would this look like if it were easier? When they seem to feel that the thing is impossible or beyond them: I know you feel like you can’t yet…But what would happen if you could? What would happen if you did? How do you rate this on a scale of 1 – 10 but you can’t use 7? Is it a hell yeah or no? And? What else? How else? Why? Change of state, motivation How have you successfully overcome obstacles in the past? Learned behavior as an asset Focus Creativity Power/Strength Other areas that could apply
Today’s guest is a product leader who knows how to set-up the sales team for a successful product launch by developing the right product messaging. A great product alone is not enough for success. The interlock between product, marketing and sales requires collaboration to develop compelling messaging to overcome the biggest competitor for most companies, which is Do Nothing. Overcoming the status quo requires story telling, and today's guest has a launch process that will place you on the right path during pre-launch. As a guide, download our 10th annual workbook, How to Make Your Number in 2017. Turn to the product strategy section and flip to the Product Launch and Messaging phase on pages 143 – 146 of the PDF. [p] Why this topic? Product launches fail to generate revenue when sales people and channel partners are not involved in messaging development during pre-launch preparations. When messaging is developed in isolation it is not compelling enough to get your customers to act. Stories told directly to customers by well-trained sales channels enable customers and prospects to answer “Why change?” and this stimulates latent demand while leading to exceptional revenue growth. [p] Joining us is Toby Williams, SVP, Chief Product and Strategy Officer for Ellucian. Ellucian is the world’s leading provider of software and services for higher education institution, serving more than 2,400 institutions and 18 million students worldwide. Listen as Toby discusses how to create messaging to defeat the status quo. This starts with market problems that the solution is solving and to capture it through the customer lens. [p] Toby is responsible for driving product management and strategy, corporate development, M&A, business development, partnerships and cloud business. In the first segment of the show, Toby provides a detailed review of the product launch process at Ellucian. We discuss ‘Why Change’ and the story required to defeat the status quo. The second segment covers messaging frameworks and ‘Why Change Now?’ Toby describes how to use the client voice and stories to tell the story. Toby and I discuss the power of leveraging the clients voice to deliver how the solution has helped their institution. Not only the buyers, but the users of the solution by positioning the users as heroes has resonated in the market. In the final segment, Toby answers this hypothetical question; If a new company hired you tomorrow with a mandate to launch new products, what would you do, in what order, and why? Toby describes a programmatic approach that creates order. Listen as Toby outlines an action plan in depth that describes the steps to launch a new product. The new benefit is cross-functional organization readiness. If you need more help with Product Launch and Messaging, download our 10th annual workbook, How to Make Your Number in 2017.
