Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to the day in Pittsburgh sports news live around 5 p.m. Eastern. Are GM Omar Khan, coach Mike Tomlin and the Steelers having a better or worse NFL offseason than their AFC North rivals? How do the Steelers acquisitions of names including DK Metcalf, Darius Slay, Kenneth Gainwell and -- potentially -- Aaron Rodgers stack up with what the Browns have done in extending star pass rusher Myles Garrett? What about the Bengals and their key extensions for receivers Tee Higgins and Ja'Marr Chase? Or the Baltimore Ravens with WR DeAndre Hopkins? Paul tackles those topics, the reacts to the latest from Pirates spring training as they prepare to open their season Thursday.

October 23, 2024 - Season 15, Episode 42 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into talking about the latest transactions made by the Pittsburgh Steelers ahead of their first practice of Week 8. We also discuss the health of the Steelers stemming from what HC Mike Tomlin said during his Tuesday press conference. Tomlin's Tuesday press conference provided quite a few talking points for Alex and me to discuss. We talk about his thoughts on QB Rusell Wilson versus the Jets, the challenge C Ryan McCollum faces in Week 8, the status of WR Roman Wilson, the play of T Broderick Jones on Sunday night, and much more. Tomlin also gave his thoughts on the effectiveness of play-action against the Jets, so Alex and I go over those comments and how it all looked on tape. Alex and I then transition into going over what we both learned from the all-22 tape from the Steelers Sunday night game against the Jets. We start on the offensive side of the football and then move over to the defense. We discuss several plays, schematics, and the play of several individual players during this segment. Alex and I look at where optimism should be concerning the 5-2 Steelers when it comes to the team not only possibly making the playoffs but winning a game in the tournament as well. Another wide receiver trade happened in the NFL on Wednesday morning as the Tennessee Titans dealt WR DeAndre Hopkins to the Kansas City Chiefs. We discuss that deal, in addition to it sounding like the Los Angeles Rams might be willing to part ways with WR Cooper Kupp ahead of the trade deadline. We look at Kupp's contract, what the Rams seem to want as trade compensation, and the chances of the Steelers ultimately being able to acquire him. This 109-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted, and we close things by answering a few emails that we recently received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Hour 1 The Knicks lost their season opener in a boring game against the Celtics. Gio is not going to overreact as the NBA season is long. It also seemed boring because we've been through some intense baseball playoff games recently so this felt like nothing. Boomer said the NBA needs to take away the 3-point shot because it makes the game boring and flat. Gio doesn't care about the Knicks game. Boomer said we're a sports talk station. Jerry is here for his first update but first we have audio of Morash saying Evan was out yesterday for going to Mets games and recording Rico Brogna podcasts. We never got to Jerry's update as we were deciding whether Evan got sick from going to Mets games and recording late night podcasts. Jerry returns for the final segment of the hour to do his update and he starts with the sounds of the Knicks losing in Boston. Aaron Rodgers was on with Pat McAfee and was asked about picking his nose and eating it on the sideline. Jerry Jones returned to Dallas radio and can't believe how often he's been asked about Derrick Henry. He called it a ‘get in your ass type of question'. Nestor Cortes would sacrifice an injury that will keep him out all next season if he can pitch in and win a World Series this year. Hour 2 The Chiefs are trading for WR DeAndre Hopkins. Boomer expects more moves to be made in the NFL before the deadline. Teams that are ‘cooked' are going to start trading guys. This got us talking about the Jets firing Rob Saleh. Boomer said not one player has said a bad thing about the guy. The Jets did not get any type of bump since making that move and the defense actually got worse. Boomer said if the Jets are 5-6 or better at the bye, they can still make the playoffs. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the sounds of Kevin Harlan as the Knicks lost in Boston. Aaron Rodgers said he needs to be a better example when it comes to energy. Rex Ryan was on the Pivot Podcast and talked about his love of feet. Aaron Judge is fired up for the start of the World Series. Boomer is not a Yankees fan, but he is a fan of Aaron Judge. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about some crazy NBA player parlay. Hour 3 Phil Simms joins us in his Wednesday spot. We talked about the Giants/Eagles game that Boomer, Phil, Jerry and Gio did on Sunday. We also talked about Russell Wilson's performance against the Jets. Phil said he would be surprised if the Jets could pull off winning 4 in a row before the bye week. If they lose to the Patriots, ‘it's over'. Phil is also loving Bill Belichick in the media as he makes really great points all the time. Jerry returns for an update and has audio from Aaron Rodgers talking about having fun and turning the energy around. The Knicks lost to the Celtics in their season opener. Aaron Judge is excited to play at Dodger stadium. In the final segment of the hour, Fernando Valenzuela passed away and the Dodgers will most likely have a patch on their jersey to honor him. We talked about which players are ‘patch worthy'. Hour 4 The World Series begins on Friday and Gerrit Cole and the rest of the stars need to show up. Boomer thinks this is going to be an offensive series with a lot of home runs hit. On paper this should be a phenomenal series. A woman named Annie called to let us know Boomer's sports minutes are no longer on the stream. Boomer is not happy about this. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the Knicks losing in Boston thanks to a ton of threes. Shaq already said, ‘The Knicks are done'. LeBron and Bronny were on the court at the same time last night. Joey Votto talked about the difference between baseball fans in New York vs L.A. The Moment of The Day:We introduce Phil Simms with a nasty audio drop by Eddie. In the final segment of the show, Boomer wonders if the radio station has Legend Seats for him and Gio.

#titans #chiefskingdom #chiefs #titanup The Kansas City Chiefs are finalizing a trade for Tennessee Titans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, ESPN reports. Hopkins, 32, will help strengthen a receiving corps that has lost Rashee Rice, Marquise Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster to injuries. It's happening: Titans and Chiefs are working to finalize a trade that would send WR DeAndre Hopkins to Kansas City, league sources tell ESPN. pic.twitter.com/aEeKEgI2D8 — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) October 23, 2024 The Chiefs are expected to send a fifth-round pick that can become a fourth-rounder to the Titans for Hopkins. Hopkins has 15 catches for 173 yards this season for a Titans team that has won just one game and struggled at quarterback. Hopkins had a knee injury in training camp that didn't require surgery. He had 75 catches for 1,057 yards last season with Tennessee. Hopkins is the third prominent receiver over the past eight days to be traded. Last week, the Las Vegas Raiders sent Davante Adams to the New York Jets and the Cleveland Browns traded Amari Cooper to the Buffalo Bills. The Los Angeles Rams have also reportedly initiated trade discussions with teams for former Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp. The two-time defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs have the best record in the NFL at 6-0 but have been in the market for a receiver to help quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Brown isn't expected to play in the regular season after having shoulder surgery last month for an injury he suffered in the preseason. Rice also isn't expected to play for the remainder of the season after having surgery two weeks ago to repair the posterolateral corner of his right knee. He was hurt during a victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. Smith-Schuster missed Sunday's victory over the San Francisco 49ers because of a hamstring injury and has already been declared out for the Chiefs' Week 8 game against the Las Vegas Raiders. It's the third straight season the Chiefs have made an in-season trade for a wide receiver. During 2022, the Chiefs sent a third and a sixth-round pick to the New York Giants for Kadarius Toney. He is no longer on the roster, though he did have a crucial punt return in the Chiefs' Super Bowl win over the Philadelphia Eagles in February of 2023. Last season, the Chiefs traded a sixth-round pick to the Jets for Mecole Hardman and a seventh-round pick. Hardman had left the Chiefs to sign with the Jets as a free agent in the offseason. Hardman caught the game-winning pass in overtime of Super Bowl LVIII and re-signed with the Chiefs this offseason. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Jared opens the show saying the Titans stink and everyone knows it, even owner Amy Adams Strunk, but he wants to know if she's actually okay with it. WR DeAndre Hopkins and LB Ernest Jones were traded away today, and Jared says he's on board with the moves. While it's good to pick up some extra draft picks, Jared says it doesn't excuse the bad 2023 draft and $230 million spent in free agency.
