In this week's Gaming Fun Fact we explore gaming devices that were adopted by the US military including Xbox 360 controllers that were used instead of an outdated periscope control system and PS3s that were combined to create a very efficient supercomputer. The handheld market is heating up with Sony looking to potentially make a splash in the largely Steam Deck and Switch dominated space. If this device does make it to market, will it run the entire PS5 collection? Or will it have its own library like the PSP and PS Vita? Xbox avatars are being sunset, a feature that used to have a lot of prominence in the Xbox 360 era, but is now largely forgotten. Avatars were re-released after their original implementation on the Xbox 360 and have never quite been the same. Honestly we kept forgetting they even existed so they will not be missed. When you use the PS app you're able to purchase games from the PS Store, but this is not the case on the Xbox app. According to Sarah Bond, this is because Microsoft is waiting for the courts to make a final decision in the "Google Play is an illegal monopoly" case. This is yet another bit added to the saga that Epic began when it took on Apple's and Google's ~30% cut of their app store revenues.

In today's Daily Fix: CD Project's long-in-development The Witcher 4 game is now in "full-scale production," which the company has described as the most intense phase of game development. No other details around the game have been revealed, so we're left with just a couple of teaser images. CDPR's other projects, including another Witcher game and a new Cyberpunk entry, are still in development. In other news, Xbox is killing off the Xbox Avatars with the shutdown of the Avatar Editor app. Basically, no one was using them, and if you happened to have purchased any avatar accessories via the online store recently, you may be entitled to a refund. And finally, Amazon has released a teaser for the Concord-centric episode of Secret Level. The game may be no more, but it will live on in at least one more piece of media.

Somebody told me there was some new cool stuff for your Xbox Avatars today and when I looked on the Marketplace I discovered that Tokidoki had opened a storefront on the Xbox Marketplace. Tokidoki is a Japanese inspired brand created by Italian artist Simone Legno that produces a variety of products such as clothes, watches, handbags, toys, and even stylized memory sticks. The art depicted on them ranges from ultra cute to stylish and sexy. Tokidoki even has original characters that get depicted on their merchandise. I am part of the new Xbox Live preview so users not participating in it will not be able to access the Marketplace for Avatars until August 11. The Tokidoki store features shirts, caps, watches, and even two cool looking skateboards that your avatar interacts with. The clothes run around 80 microsoft points while the skateboards are 240. There is also a "Steampunk" store whose prices run about the same. I've been meaning to put up some links on my blog for Japanese and Japanese influenced merchandise retailers.
