On this episode of the world's greatest Steve Buscemi-themed podcast, we're taking a look at the odd coming-of-age nightmare comedy YOUTH IN REVOLT from 2009 where Michael Cera creates a sociopathic version of himself in order to impress a young woman he meets at a trailer park. Stuffed with great character actors (Jean Smart, Justin Long, Fred Willard, Mary Kay Place, M. Emmett Walsh), its episodic format takes some getting used to, but it's much more interesting - and stranger - than the marketing would have you believe. Also, Steve Buscemi is in it (as Michael Cera's father!). All of this and the latest Buscemi news, and all for FREE! You can't pass up that deal. The post Episode 263 – How Do You Do, Fellow Kids? – Youth in Revolt (2009) first appeared on Cinema Smorgasbord.

Please note, this interview was recorded on June 13th, 2023, before the Sag/Aftra strike. This Friday see the release of The Adults, the new film starring Michael Cera, Sophia Lillis, and Hannah Gross as a group of siblings who are forced to come to terms with some of their issues they never got past from their youth. We caught the film this past June when the film was shown at the Tribeca Film Festival. We had the pleasure of talking to both Michal and Sophia about the film. Tune in next week to hear our discussion with Sophia, but for now, enjoy our chat with Michael about The Adults, Youth in Revolt, some animated Scott Pilgrim, Music, and just being a person in this world. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/overduerentals/support

It's time to be bad, dear listeners. And there's no greater bad boy in American cinema than François Dillinger as played by the actor that made all parents concerned for the youth at the end of aughts. That's right. Double The Cera in this episode on YOUTH IN REVOLT. If that wasn't panty dropping enough, you also have Mike and Web. And they're pretty good. Not great. But pretty good. DJ Cosher has a new single out, called ‘Youth In Revolt’ – a collab with talented Jo’burg singer songwriter, Velveteen. He joined Carl Wastie on the Coca-Cola Top40SA on Saturday, 28 September 2019, to chat about the new single. Whilst in-studio, Carl and the team sang 'Happy Birthday' for the Cape Town DJ/Producer - and tested him to see if he can remember some of the songs he's worked on (both released by him and other artists).
The Filmlosophers, Eddie Villanueva, Chad Riley and Spencer Williams, are feeling a bit of a power surge with this week's review of Shazam! (2019). Directed by David F. Sandberg, the film stars Zachary Levi as the titular hero, while Asher Angel plays his human alter ego, Billy Batson. Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer and Djimon Hounsou fill out the primary cast, and there are a number of other standouts waiting in the wings of this mostly family-friendly comic book adaptation. After all, it's only on the colorful canvas of a superhero film that you typically find story elements such as America's foster care system, the seven deadly sins, and larger-than-life preteen heroes in the same mix. The real question, though, is whether that mix is just-right or a little too over-the-top. Listen in to find out our take!

This week Dave and Noah sing Que Sera, Sera with Michael Cera in 2009’s crap trap Youth in Revolt. It stars Cera, Portia Doubleday, Zach Galifianakis, Ray Liotta and Steve Buscemi. After swindling a bunch of sailors, Zach Galifianakis has to take his girlfriend and stepson, Cera, on the run to Clearwater, CA. While they are hiding out in a trailer park, Cera falls head-over-heels with Portia Doubleday, the girl next door. When it comes time to leave, Cera arranges to win the favor of Doubleday through a series of juvenile delinquent acts that will get him kicked out of his mom’s house and lead him back into arms of his trailer park princess. In order to accomplish this, Cera must create an alter ego named Francois to show him the ropes in juvenile debauchery. Que Cera, Cera, we hardly knew yee! You’ll never guess what Dave and Noah have hidden in their closet! Plus, the topics of this week’s podcast: the color of Steve Buscemi’s parachute, Jonah Hills we’d die on, and a palette cleanser that is neither cleansing nor palatable.
