If you have not been to the movies of late, this conversation is probably a hint for you to do so.  But if you've been to the cinemas of late, chances are you might have watched the Barbie Movie, Oppenheimer or the latest instalment of the Mission:Impossible franchise, the Dead Reckoning Part 1.  Speaking of which, beyond the cast and directors, have you ever wondered what made the movies come to life? What about the visual system that makes the iconic pink colour pop in the Barbie Movie. Or the immersive sound system that makes you feel the blast in Oppenheimer or that car chase in Mission Impossible?  Our guest for today is Dolby Laboratories. The firm works with artists, storytellers and businesses to revolutionise entertainment and communications with its visual and audio systems such as the Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision and Dolby Cinema.  But how does this work exactly, and are these players considered at Dolby Laboratories, customers or partners? Also, what are some of the products in its pipeline for this year and the next? Director Gareth Edwards joins us to discuss his visionary new dystopian sci-fi film, "The Creator." The movie features some incredible sound work — including a glorious Dolby Atmos® mix — but with some unconventional sound design choices for a science fiction film about artificial intelligence and fully autonomous robots.Joining the director to discuss all this and more are sound designers and supervising sound editors Erik Aadahl and Ethan Van Der Ryn, along with re-recording mixers Tom Ozanich and Dean A. Zupancic. This is another of our in-depth conversations, which we were proud to conduct in person at our Dolby screening room in Hollywood. We were delighted to discuss the filmmaking process and the risky creative choices required to craft such a groundbreaking track.“The whole making of a film is [a] dance. You're on a razor's edge. You go slightly too much this way, it's really obvious and cliched. You go slightly too much this way, it's up its own arse and no one understands it. And you're just trying to do that knife edge the whole time. And the way you get there is not through being a really clever. To be honest, you pick a side to start on and then you go right up to the limit.” —Gareth Edwards, Director / Producer / Co-writer, “The Creator”Be sure to check out The Creator at a Dolby Cinema® to get the full experience in Dolby Vison® and Dolby Atmos®.Please subscribe to The Dolby Institute Podcast wherever you get your podcasts. You can also check out the video for this episode.Learn more about the Dolby Institute and check out Dolby.com. Guest host Jon Burlingame returns to delve into Lorne's process — including some on-the-fly performances during his interview — and why he so badly wanted to record elements of the soundtrack in so many locations from around the world.“You sometimes have these choirs [that] have to sing in different languages. And of course they can do it. But it's just not natural to them. So that was one idea that I had: Wouldn't it be amazing to have the musicians from that city or from that town be part of this soundtrack? The same way that the crew, and the extras, and the actors are from that environment? Academy Award-winning composer Ludwig Göransson returns to the Dolby Institute Podcast to discuss his latest collaboration with auteur filmmaker Christopher Nolan, with guest host Jon Burlingame. They discuss the composer's process which, on this film, was anything but traditional, including why he composed over three hours of music before principal photography even began.“But then the real job begins when [Christopher Nolan] comes back and he goes into the edit bay and he sits there with [picture editor] Jennifer Lame and they start putting together the movie. And they put together the scenes. And they already put my music in those scenes, from what we'd already written. Sono state costruite dalla Sony e sono larghe solo 5 cm per poter essere posizionate facilmente dentro gli aerei.Visibile in sale IMAX , 4DX ScreenX e Dolby Cinema. Playlist Cinemahttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dkaLl2HB4I&list=PLnrgTmL_RFxrZRJXrTrPSlMzJNsKt0nefIMAXhttps://www.imax.com/4 DXhttps://www.cj4dx.com/Dolby Cinemahttps://www.dolby.com/movies-tv/cinema

Jurassic World Dominion is a 2022 American science fiction action film directed by Colin Trevorrow, written by Trevorrow and Emily Carmichael and based on a story by Trevorrow and Derek Connolly. It is the sequel to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), the sixth installment in the Jurassic Park franchise, the final film in the Jurassic World trilogy, and the conclusion to the storyline started in the original Jurassic Park trilogy. As with its predecessors, Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley produced the film with Trevorrow and Jurassic Park (1993) director Steven Spielberg acting as executive producers. The film stars an ensemble cast including Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill, DeWanda Wise, Mamoudou Athie, BD Wong, and Omar Sy. Dern, Goldblum, and Neill reprise their roles from the Jurassic Park trilogy, appearing together for the first time since the 1993 film. The film is set four years after the events of Fallen Kingdom, with dinosaurs now living alongside humans around the world. The film was planned as early as 2014 as part of a future Jurassic World trilogy. Filming began in February 2020 but was suspended in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It resumed in July and concluded four months later. Filming locations included Canada, England's Pinewood Studios and the country of Malta. Unlike its two predecessors, Legendary Entertainment was not involved in the film's production as Universal ended their partnership with the company in 2019 after the expiration of their four-year deal. Jurassic World Dominion is distributed by Universal Pictures and premiered in Mexico City on May 23, 2022. It was theatrically released in the United States on June 10, 2022, in IMAX, 4DX, RealD 3D, and Dolby Cinema. The film has grossed $462 million worldwide, becoming the fifth-highest-grossing film of 2022, but received negative reviews from critics who criticized its screenplay and runtime, with many claiming the franchise had run its course. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/popcorn-junkies/message

The newest and final installment of the Jurassic World franchise roared into theaters on Friday and we are delighted to share this conversation with director Colin Trevorrow and his sound team, to discuss how they crafted the soundtrack to this latest dinosaur Summer blockbuster. On today's podcast: — Colin Trevorrow, Director and Co-writer  — Christopher Boyes, Re-recording Mixer  — Pete Horner, Re-recording Mixer  — Al Nelson, Sound Designer and Supervising Sound Editor  — Gwendolyn Yates Whittle, Supervising Sound Editor  Jurassic World Dominion features another monstrous soundtrack that these dinosaur epics are known for. But as you might have guessed, keeping those big action set pieces sonically coherent enough for an audience to actually enjoy is a very complicated, but also enjoyable, challenge for the sound team. "One thing that we take for granted as humans, when we walk into a chaotic environment, our brains are actually mixing that environment for us. Where what we choose to focus determines what we're actually hearing. In a theater, we have to do that for the audience. If we just put all the sound in, then you don't hear anything — because it's chaotic and our brains are not able to do that in a theatrical setting. So as mixers, Chris and I are collaborating, trading off, 'OK, this is a moment for dialogue. This is a moment for dinosaurs...' And then in the midst of it, somehow there's an orchestra playing. And so we have to also make room for themes, which are incredibly important to how you experience the scene and feel about it. So that's the challenge and, honestly, the excitement of doing a scene like that. You have everything at your fingertips and you have to decide, 'What are we hearing here? What are we hearing here?' So it's really fun." — Pete Horner, Re-recording Mixer, Jurassic World Dominion Be sure to check out Jurassic World Dominion in theaters, and ideally at a Dolby Cinema, near you! https://www.jurassicworld.com/ (https://www.jurassicworld.com/) Please subscribe to Sound + Image Lab: The Dolby Institute Podcast https://linktr.ee/dolbyinstitute (wherever you get your podcasts). Top Gun: Maverick is a 2022 American action drama film directed by Joseph Kosinski and written by Ehren Kruger, Eric Warren Singer, and Christopher McQuarrie, from a story by Peter Craig and Justin Marks. It serves as a sequel to Top Gun (1986). The film stars Tom Cruise as Captain Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, a test pilot, alongside Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, and Val Kilmer. Set 36 years after its predecessor, it follows Maverick's return to the United States Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor program (also known as "Top Gun"), where he must confront his past as he trains a group of younger fighter pilots, among them the son of Maverick's deceased best friend Goose. Development for a Top Gun sequel was announced in 2010 by Paramount Pictures. Cruise and Kilmer were approached to return in their roles from the original, as were producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott. By mid-2012 a draft of the screenplay was finished, however Scott died by suicide and the film's pre-production was put on hold. The film is dedicated to Scott's memory. In June 2017, Kosinski was hired and wrote a new draft of the script. Principal photography took place from May 2018 to April 2019 in California, Washington, D.C., and Maryland. The film was shot using IMAX-certified 6K full-screen cameras. Its release, initially scheduled for July 12, 2019, was delayed first by efforts to shoot several complex action sequences, then by the COVID-19 pandemic and scheduling conflicts. Top Gun: Maverick premiered at CinemaCon on April 28, 2022, and was theatrically released in the United States on IMAX, 4DX, ScreenX and Dolby Cinema on May 27, 2022, by Paramount Pictures. It will be followed shortly thereafter by release on Paramount+. The film received widespread praise from critics, who commended the direction, action sequences, visuals, emotional weight, and performances; many deeming it superior to the first film. The film has grossed $275 million worldwide, making it the eighth-highest grossing film of 2022. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/popcorn-junkies/message

Director Matt Reeves joins us again this week to discuss The Batman. This is part 2 of our special 2-part episode on this movie, where we discuss the film's incredible cinematography. If you haven't already, be sure to check out part 1, where we break down the sound and music of The Batman, in our podcast archive from earlier this week, or on YouTube: https://youtu.be/uZ_3Kdm_ZhE (https://youtu.be/uZ_3Kdm_ZhE) Joining Matt is Director of Photography Greig Fraser (who joins us separately, later in this episode, as he is currently on location in London), and Supervising and Lead Digital Colorist, David Cole. But this episode is not just a deep dive into the technical aspects of their fascinating post-production process, but also includes details on how Matt and Greig managed to make such an epic movie feel like you, in the audience, were right there in the middle of all the action. "When we shot things, even like the Batmobile chase, even though there's a tremendous amount of visual effects in the movie, I didn't want you to be aware that we were doing them at all. And so we always used the parameters of how you would do it if you were doing it practically. And so [with] the Batmobile chase, we're putting cameras and we're locking them onto hard mounts, so you're watching a lot of hard mounts and that kind of stuff. And then, 'what's in focus?' And it's in the middle of rain. And 'what does that rain look like?' And there were times when Greig would take a filter and put a little bit of silicone on it... so that when you put it in front of the lens and when it got wet, you had the sense that it wasn't just that we were in rain that was perfectly photographed. The lens itself got wet. So you feel like you're in the middle of it. And so everything was about putting you squarely in that experience." — Matt Reeves, Director, Co-Writer, and Producer, "The Batman" Be sure to https://www.thebatman.com/ (check out The Batman) at a Dolby Cinema near you. So be sure to check out part 2, where we discuss the cinematography of The Batman, which will debut this Thursday! In this episode we are joined by Matt and his incredible team of sound and music artists: Michael Giacchino - Composer Will Files - Supervising Sound Editor Douglas Murray - Supervising Sound Editor Andy Nelson - Re-Recording Mixer Somehow, despite their very busy schedules, we managed to spend over an hour together (in-person!) discussing the amazing work this team did. And as you'll soon discover, this is a group that works incredibly well together, each bringing their exceptional creativity and craft to the process. But we also spend a lot of time discussing how Matt manages to bring everything together so seamlessly as the director: "You have to become an emotional compass. To me, that is the job of the director. Because you have so many incredibly creative people who you're working with. Here: I make a movie in my head and a piece of paper — that's one version of the movie. And it's a very narrow band of what that movie could be. And then you work with these artists and you want everyone to bring something... And I have to be an emotional compass to say, 'that idea is great! That idea really works!' Somebody has to do that. And the way you do that is by immersing yourself into that thing." — Matt Reeves, Director, Co-Writer, and Producer, "The Batman" This episode is a master class in filmmaking and collaboration, with a ton of insights into the process of crafting this latest superhero epic. Mortal Kombat 2021, film review - rDNA Podcast #MortalKombat #MortalKombat2021review #FilmReviews Mortal Kombat is a 2021 martial arts fantasy film based on the video game franchise of the same name and a reboot of the Mortal Kombat film series. The film stars Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Tadanobu Asano, Mehcad Brooks, Ludi Lin, Chin Han, Max Huang, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada. It is directed by Simon McQuoid (in his feature directorial debut), from a screenplay by Greg Russo and Dave Callaham and a screen story by Russo and Oren Uziel. The film follows Cole Young, a washed-up mixed martial arts fighter who is unaware of his hidden lineage or why assassin Sub-Zero is hunting him down. Concerned for the safety of his family, he seeks out a clique of fighters that were chosen to defend Earthrealm against Outworld. Following the critical and commercial failure of the 1997 film Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, a third Mortal Kombat film languished in development hell for a period of nearly two decades. In late 2010, Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema (whose parent company acquired the franchise from Midway Games in 2009) began developing a new film, with Kevin Tancharoen serving as director from a script written by Uziel in the wake of their Mortal Kombat: Rebirth short film. James Wan was announced as a producer in August 2015 and McQuoid was hired as director in November 2016. Production took place at Adelaide Studios in Adelaide and at other locations in South Australia. Principal photography occurred from September to December 2019. Mortal Kombat was released internationally on April 8, 2021, then in the United States on April 23, simultaneously in theaters in Dolby Cinema, IMAX and 4DX and on the HBO Max streaming service. The film received mixed reviews from critics and grossed $83.6 million worldwide against a $55 million budget. It became HBO Max's most-successful film launch to date. A sequel is in development with Jeremy Slater set to write the screenplay. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/doseofnerdacumen/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/doseofnerdacumen/support

In Part Two of our conversation about "Nightmare Alley," we are joined by an impressive team of sound artists, who worked very closely with Guillermo del Toro in crafting this film: - Nathan Robitaille, Supervising Sound Editor - Jill Purdy, Supervising Sound Editor - Christian Cooke, Re-recording Mixer - Brad Zoern, Re-recording Mixer - Greg Chapman, Production Sound Mixer We've included some additional material from our one-on-one interview with the director himself, so that we could discuss some key creative decisions and how the team responded to his direction. They remarked not only on his famous eye (and ear) for detail, but how every creative decision seemed to be driven, as always, by story: "One of the things Guillermo said to us is — it's really important that we emphasize the freedom in poverty at the carnival, and the restriction and that suffocating isolation in the wealthy back half of the city, once they start to succeed and they go to the big city. That was the big global bird's-eye note. And so from there forward, that would influence every choice that got made, as we started doing pre-design elements and sourcing the bits that would eventually build the cacophony that was the carnival and the Copacabana and all." — Nathan Robitaille, Supervising Sound Editor, "Nightmare Alley" Definitely check out Part One of this discussion, where we sat down with Guillermo del Toro himself to discuss his filmmaking techniques & philosophies which he applied to "Nightmare Alley," as well as many of his other hit films. We recently sat down with legendary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro ahead of the premiere of his latest film, the slick and stylish noir thriller, "Nightmare Alley." Our conversation was so inspiring that we decided to release this podcast in two parts. Today, enjoy this inspiring, one-on-one conversation for a unique glimpse into the creative process of one of the greatest directors working today.  If you are at all interesting in filmmaking, consider this podcast episode a must-listen. This is especially true for anyone interested in what a film director does: "One of the functions of the director is to make sure that there are no departments that are independent in the visual realization of the film. Meaning... you create a series of parameters that are narrative, and that can be broken [down] into color, light, shape, form. That those disciplines are understood by all those departments. When you say, 'what great cinematography,' you're saying, 'what great production design.' When you say, 'what great production design,' you're saying, 'what great wardrobe.' And when you're saying, 'what a great image,' you're saying, 'what great set decorating.' And that's when the director does the job of the director — which is to make sure that these efforts are symphonic, to story and to character. So one of the mandates I give is: We're not creating eye candy, we're creating eye protein. And it should be nutritious. It should tell you something about the character. It should immerse you in a motif." — Guillermo del Toro, Director, Co-Writer, Producer, "Nightmare Alley" Part two of this discussion, with the "Nightmare Alley" sound team, will be released later this week, so make sure you are subscribed to Sound + Vision Lab: The Dolby Institute Podcast https://linktr.ee/dolbyinstitute (wherever you get your podcasts). We're turning back the clock to 1984 as we talk about "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" with Supervising Sound Editor & Re-Recording Mixer Will Files and Composer Rob Simonsen. Unlike many modern action-adventure films, this team, led by director Jason Reitman, tried to make everything sound as authentically '80s as possible, eschewing modern sound design and film score aesthetics, in order to give the audience an experience reminiscent of the beloved original film (which happened to be directed by Jason's father, Ivan Reitman). The result is a delightful throwback to the action-comedies of yesteryear. And the three of us absolutely NERD OUT today, as we talk about all the ways they pulled this off, from both a technical and aesthetic perspective. "When Jason [Reitman, the director] and we sat down to talk about the movie, he said, 'You've got to put yourself aside. This is... really about being custodians of what was done." So we had a lot of conversations about that and he said, 'I'm telling every department that that is the mission here. It's not to do what necessarily is, like, cool and modern and hip. This is about discovering the original, keeping it, and - where we can - walking forward, but in the clothes of the original.' So, I think it was really important for Jason to signal to everyone, right at the opening logos: 'We got you!'" — Rob Simonsen, Composer, Ghostbusters: Afterlife Be sure to https://www.ghostbusters.com/ (check out Ghostbusters: Afterlife at a Dolby Cinema near you). The latest James Bond film, from director Cary Joji Fukunaga, is a veritable feast of emotion and tone. Along with the requisite jaw-dropping action sequences, the film is chock-full of emotional pathos and tender moments, appropriate for Daniel Craig's sendoff as the titular British super-spy. But also, perhaps surprisingly, some very humorous sequences, as well.  With a running time of over 2 and 1/2 hours, the sound team had their work cut out for them, and on a very tight timeline. So how did they manage to craft such an exciting, yet tender, and often hilarious new Bond film under such tough deadlines? Today we sit down with supervising sound editor Oliver Tarney and re-recording mixers Paul Massey and Mark Taylor to find out exactly that. Did they go back in and make changes after the film was "finished?" After all, the release was delayed substantially due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  "Sometimes on a really focused tight schedule on a big film there's a certain energy about that. And if you had more time, you could explore more, it can become over-polished. Something a little bit sterile can creep in sometimes. I've been on movies that felt like that a little bit. So there is an energy with everyone just going full-tilt, trying to get something done. And there might be a few little rough edges, but that's part of it. It doesn't feel over-produced. Maybe there would be that danger if you opened it up again and just said, 'we've got all this time.' You start maybe just making it a little bit too sanitized or something. The incredible new adaptation of "Dune," from director Denis Villeneuve, has some astonishing sound work, fully embracing the immersive capabilities of Dolby Atmos®. Creating this soundtrack was a long and painstaking process, which began in pre-production, as Denis took a novel approach by bringing his sound team and composer on board very early in the process. This gave them extra time and creative freedom to unlock some truly next-level artistry on this film. We recently sat down with Denis and his all-star sound team of Mark Mangini, Theo Green, and Ron Bartlett, to discuss this and their approach to this very ambitious project.  "[A]t the end of the day, you're not mixing sound, you're mixing an image. #DetectivePikachuReview #Pokemon #Podcast Pokémon Detective Pikachu[c] is a 2019 mystery film directed by Rob Letterman. Based on the Pokémon franchise created by Satoshi Tajiri and serving as a loose adaptation of the 2016 video game of the same name,[6] it was written by Letterman, Dan Hernandez, Benji Samit and Derek Connolly, from a story by Hernandez, Samit and Nicole Perlman. The film was produced by Legendary Pictures in association with Toho. It is the first live-action Pokémon film,[7] as well as the first live-action film based on a Nintendo game property since Super Mario Bros. (1993). Ryan Reynolds stars as the voice and facial motion capture of Pikachu, with Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, Suki Waterhouse, Omar Chaparro, Chris Geere, Ken Watanabe and Bill Nighy in live-action roles. The plot follows a former Pokémon Trainer Tim Goodman and the titular Pokémon as they attempt to uncover the mysterious disappearance of Tim's father, Harry. Filming took place from January to May 2018 in Colorado, England and Scotland. Detective Pikachu was released in Japan on May 3, 2019[8][9] and in the United States on May 10, 2019, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures in RealD 3D, Dolby Cinema, IMAX, 4DX, and ScreenX formats.[10] It is the first Pokémon film to be distributed theatrically in the United States since Pokémon Heroes (2003) and the first to be distributed by Warner Bros. since Pokémon 3 (2001). The Rotten Tomatoes critical consensus calls it an "offbeat adaptation" that should appeal to fans. The film has a worldwide gross of $433 million. It is the second highest-grossing video game film adaptation of all time behind Warcraft, another film produced by Legendary Pictures. Free Guy is a 2021 American science fiction action comedy film directed by Shawn Levy from a screenplay by Matt Lieberman and Zak Penn, and a story by Lieberman. The film stars Ryan Reynolds (who also produced) as a bank teller who discovers he is actually a non-player character in an open-world video game and decides to become the hero of the story and save his friends from deletion by the game's creator (Taika Waititi). Jodie Comer, Lil Rel Howery, Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Joe Keery also star. Following a year-long delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Free Guy was theatrically released in the United States on August 13, 2021, in RealD 3D, IMAX and Dolby Cinema by 20th Century Studios. The film received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised the film's clever concept and visual effects and compared it favorably as a combination of Ready Player One, The Truman Show, The Matrix, The Lego Movie, and Grand Theft Auto. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/popcorn-junkies/message

"Nine Days" is an unusual and remarkable film. A kind of supernatural fable about aspiring souls enduring a rigorous interview process in order to get chosen for life. It is an incredible debut from gifted filmmaker Edson Oda, and we are very proud to see this film finally get a theatrical release, as it was a recipient of the Dolby Institute Fellowship, which gives independent films funding to mix their films in Dolby Atmos®. And we couldn't be more pleased with how this film turned out! We recently spoke with writer and director Edson Oda, supervising sound designer Mac Smith, and re-recording mixer Brandon Proctor, about how they managed to craft such a thought-provoking film which asks some of the most provocative questions about existence itself. But it does so in a very subtle way, as the film invites audiences to craft their own interpretations and meanings. This was all very much by design: "As a filmmaker, we always want to give enough [information] and not give more than that. And I'm not just talking about storytelling. I think it's [the same] for sound or images – or anything – when you're telling a story. You want to leave some gaps, so the audience can fill in those gaps with their imagination. I think that's, for the most part, the thing that can happen when someone has contact with any piece of art, or any piece of work, or anything that they see: 'Okay, now I'm going to complete this with my assumptions, with my images, with my history, my imagination.'" — Edson Oda, Director, "Nine Days" The film just entered a wider release, so https://www.sonyclassics.com/film/ninedays/ (be sure to check out "Nine Days" in a Dolby Cinema while you still can).  Many thanks to our friends at Sony Pictures Classics for giving this film the release it deserves and for helping us pull this conversation together this week. The cult classic "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" came out just a little over ten years ago, and to celebrate the anniversary, the filmmakers (and Universal Pictures) decided to remaster the film in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for a theatrical and home video re-release this year. Dolby had the privilege of sitting down with the director, Edgar Wright, and the Sound Designer, Julian Slater, to talk about the experience and to find out just how different this new and improved version of the film will be. "Sometimes going back in - remastering something - can be a bit of a chore.... But in this case, it was actually a very sweet reunion... I sat in this theater watching the Dolby Cinema version with the editor of the movie and the sound mixer of the movie, ten years later, and watching it I had like NO notes! It was such a pleasure because it was such an easy experience, because it was like 'well, it sounds and looks better than it ever has done. And what better way to celebrate ten years of this movie?'" — Edgar Wright, Director of "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" Be sure to check out the 10-year special re-release of "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" at a Dolby Cinema or home theater near you. 0:22 Jeremy WatsonHey Sean and fellow Patrons! What do you think happened to 2014 Thanos's timeline once he jumped to 2023? Without Thanos in that time, he can't perform the snap in 2018. Also, do you think that Tony's snap eliminated all Thanos's from all timelines? Thanks!3:30 Jeremy WatsonI know we are many months away, but do you think Endgame will get any attention come award season?7:30 Eric JensenHi Sean, just wondering if you have any thoughts on how Endgame and infinity war would have been different had Cap and Tony not been so divided after Civil War.  If they were all for the accords would the avengers have beat Thanos and prevented the snap?  At the beginning of Endgame Tony certainly blames Cap for the negative outcome.  Thoughts?9:47 Jeremy WatsonSean, I know Markus and McFeely recently came out and said that Steve could always wield Mjolnir but didn't in AoU to Thor's benefit. I personally liked thinking that he had to clear his conscience in CW before being deemed worthy. Which version do you prefer? Sorry if you already mentioned this before. Thanks.15:19 Robert KlauserWhat's up Sean? As much as I'd like the underwater Easter egg to be Namor and Atlantis, do you think it could also be the Deviant City (I believe it's Lemuria) from the Eternals?17:24 Derek BeebeHey Sean, why do you think Cap chose Sam and not Bucky to replace him?  I understand the out of universe reason of course, but he was always much closer to Bucky.  Was it because Bucky had too much of a damaged past to ever be accepted as a public icon?  Fears of his mind conditioning coming back?21:34 Derek BeebeI still can't believe they killed off the real Thanos ten minutes in and replaced him with what I jokingly referred to as Fake Thanos to be the final villain.  My issue with this is that this is not the character we built an emotional connection to over the course of Infinity War.  This is not the character who sacrificed Gamora.  Didn't it bother you that the villain for the movie was not the one so masterfully developed in the previous movie, but an alt universe alt reality copy?28:28 Derek BeebeAt the end of Endgame they say they're going to go looking for 2014 Gamora.  But she was right there for the Avengers Compound battle.  How could she have gotten away?  Did she steal a space ship?  Didn't all of Thanos' ships get dusted?31:14 Derek BeebeDid it bother you that Starlord just returned to his homeworld for the first time since childhood, and we didn't get to see his reaction to that at all?33:59 Giuseppe VicarettiHey Sean, my question for you this week is hopefully a good one. If you were given the opportunity to cast your own MCU movie on any Marvel Character (that we haven't seen yet in these first 22 movies), which character would you choose and pick 3 actors (whomever you would like) you would choose as the top build leads.35:45 David RosenHey Everyone, I continue to be amazed at how well paced this movie is. Even having after my fifth viewing, the movie still doesn't feel like 3 hours. In hindsight, I find it amusing how big a deal was made of it being “too long.” I glad the movie didn't have an intermission, but IF the movie were going to have one, where would you have put it? Personally, I think I would cut it right after they all zap into the quantum realm, and then pick up again just as they boom into quantum tunnel, going into Avengers 2012. This seemed like the most natural spot to pause with the swell of the music and where the story was, being the end of the ramp up and the beginning of the time heist. Is there anywhere you think the movie could be cut in two?38:33 Orion ZangaraHey Sean!! Just curious, do you think it's possible Disney will use Disney plus as a testing ground for new characters in live action shows and then introduce the character in the movies? Possibly something more family friendly like Squirrel Girl or Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur (but not necessarily). I'd assume this would be less of a financial risk than making an entire movie on a more obscure property (although of course this has been done with Guardians and soon Eternals and Shang-Chi).Thanks so much for creating such an awesome podcast! You guys are doing a fantastic job! I love listening to you guys talk about this stuff every week. Two thumbs up! 41:49 Keith MerrillEnjoying the podcasts Sean.  My question is having seen Endgame multiple times and in multiple movie theater formats,  Which one do you find the most enjoyable or prefer?  For me it was the Dolby Cinema experience.44:54 Woo S! KimOne of my favorite cameos of Stan Lee outside of the MCU and or Marvel Television is his cameo on “The Simpsons,” now that Disney owns “The Simpsons” I would really like to see Kevin Feige guest star on “The Simpsons. What Marvel Television and or Marvel Studios would you like to see on “The Simpsons” Sean, other than Feige I would love Tom Holland and or Clark Gregg, what about you?  45:53 Woo S! KimDo you believe “Eternals” will be the first to show the ramifications beyond Earth of  Professor Hulk''s snap? Related to this, I have to believe and perhaps this is just my own head canon, but I doubt it's just me that The Decimation and Professor Hulk's snap caused a ripple effect that woke something up or created something that wasn't in the MCU previously such as Kang and or Galactus, do you concur Sean?48:14 Woo S! KimDo you think the five year time gap in “Avengers: Endgame” and or the Time Hopping was done from a logistical standpoint to free up Marvel Studios and potentially future creative people that Marvel Studios will bring into future projects, so that said creative people don't have to stick to a certain timeline and allows some people to do stories that they couldn't do in the “Infinity Saga?” Along these lines Sean, do you believe that Marvel Studios is going to stick with one through line in terms of telling their stories for the next five to seven whether that be in films and or on Disney+ such as the one True Believers aw in the “Infinity Saga” or will there be a feeling of more stand alone stories even more so than the one we saw in “Black Panther?”52:37 Carole and HelwalkPlease help me settle a discussion I am currently trapped in regarding Endgame:  I say 2014 Gamora was dusted when IronMan snapped his fingers to wipe out Thanos and his army since she had come with him to 2023.  My friend insists she just scurried away?!?!?!?!  Your thoughts?  As always, thank you!55:00 Brandon McCollumHey Sean, what are your thoughts on the rumored Nova movie?  Do you think they will take the Ant-Man route and focus on the characters second incarnation with Sam Alexander, or do you think they will let Richard Rider take center stage? Personally, I would go with Rider, but I would be down for either.  Blue Blazes!!!57:00 Giuseppe VicarettiNext question is more of a general question. Where did it all start for you Sean? Not just your podcast hosting, but your love for Marvel as a whole as well, where did it start for you and what steps did you take to get where you are now as far as covering all things Marvel? And if there's one thing you could change what would it be?1:08:44 Mike GonyeaHi there Sean, hope all is well man. One of the many questions I have from Endgame is in regards to potential Doctor Strange sequel set ups. The was the ancient one talks about how the repercussions of taking the stones out of time can lead to disastrous results. Could this be something that is simply contained to the specific timeline/reality the stone was taken from, or could that have a overflow/bleeding effect into the timeline/reality the stones were taken to as well? The scene felt similar to the potential Black Panther 2 set up with the earthquake reference earlier in the film. Could there be something there? Thank you so much for all you do!1:13:12 Oni OmoregieHi, Sean. Outside of BP and Doctor Strange 2, I am most excited about Shang Chi in the coming “phase.” However, as someone who grew up watching classic martial art films with wonderful choreography, I am slightly worried that Marvel won't get the best to choreograph the movie. Winter Soldier and Civil War had great fight scenes, but I am expecting more out of Shang Chi. What are your thoughts on this issue?1:15:41 Mike GonyeaIf Marvel Studios decides to use the snaps as the catalyst of the mutant X gene and bringing the XMen into the MCU. Would this be specific to what the Avengers call Earth? Or could that be all across the universe? And on the thread of XMen in the MCU, what would be some fantasy casting you would like to see for some XMen characters? Thanks for everything buddy, have a good day!1:17:55 Mike GonyeaGranted this idea would nullify the entirety of Endgame somewhat... but if the point Time Heist was to get all the stones, why not just go back to when they are about to get the gauntlet off of Thanos on Titan in Infinity War and chop off his arm and jump back to the present/prime timeline? Granted there would be a lot more risk going to take the stones directly from Thanos compared to collecting them from different points in time when it is 'safer'. More of a thought than a question I suppose, thank you for your time Sean! ✌1:21:43 Jim ScroggsWhat character do you think Bryan Cranston could play in the MCU? I wouldn't mind seeing him as Ben Parker but I know the time might have passed to see Uncle Ben1:22:49 Matt MillerHey Sean, with the recent report that Guardians 3 is going to start filming next year? Do you think it will be slated for a 2021 release? Also now that the fox deal is complete do you think Disney will rerelease or put up the animated Spider-Man or X-men series on Disney Plus? Thanks!1:27:23 Jim ScroggsAlso, I can't remember if you answered this but could Marvel come back around the Keanu Reeves since he was rumored to have been close to joining Captain Marvel1:28:22 Seth GoslinMaybe I've missed something but it seems like the door to time travel is still open at the end of Endgame. Professor Hulk has the machinery and Hank Pym is back and could make more Pym particles. The temptation to tinker with time and the threat of what enemies could do with this seems potentially problematic. Do you think that something should be done to take time travel off the playing field (going forward in the MCU)?1:30:53 David RosenWith Thanos now gone (both in 2014 and 2023), it would seem that there is a cosmic power vacuum waiting to be filled. Assuming that we don't go back to see what happens in 2014, do you think we'll see what happens to the cosmic power structure in the current 2023 MCU timeline? Also, since he was merely killed instead of snapped out of existence in 2023, unless Tony's snap also got rid of his 2023 army, what do you think happens to Thanos's now leaderless army, and might we see that come into play in future movies if we get to see how the cosmic power structure realigns itself following Thanos's demise? Also, though we haven't seen many cosmic villains beyond Thanos yet, who would be your pick to fill that void?1:35:31 David RosenIn some of your previous discussions regarding Thanos's characterization in the comics, you talked about how his ego and arrogance would sometimes be the things that lead to his downfall. Did you see any of that inflated ego or arrogance in End Game, and if so, do you think it contributed to his loss at the end? I attribute part of 2014 Thanos's loss to him not actually collecting the Infinity Stones for himself, but rather relying on the knowledge that his future self was able to do it, and also allowed the Avengers to collect them for him. I believe one of the reasons Thanos won in Infinity War was because he used each subsequent stone he collected to help him get the next one till he basically was an unstoppable force. Knowing that he had already done it in the future though, made him think he could just take it by brute force, instead of using the powers that the stones afford him. Do you this as a type of arrogance, and do you see it tracking with his comic book counterpart?1:44:11 Seth GoslinI'm happy about the passing of the shield to Sam. I'm having trouble visualizing how he will operate as the new Cap. Do you have a sense of how he will fight? Do you think he will continue using wings? Any chance of a new serum for him? What's he like in the comics?1:46:06 Seth GoslinI liked the "quantum rat". We've seen the MCU enrich its own past many times now. Is there any scenario that you would think would be a fun reveal that the rat was a shape-changed hero that we haven't seen previously or do you think it should just be left as a rat?1:47:21 Alex WardHey Sean! Just wondering what you think of the concern that the creators behind Avengers: Endgame, such as the Russos, Markus and McFeely, are "pulling a JK Rowling" by supposedly "over-explaining" aspects of the film? I do agree that this is an issue to some extent, such as their response "I wish we were that smart" in response to the question about the possible Namor easter egg, because it takes some of the fun out of these little moments being open to interpretation. However, this is probably moreso the fault of the interviewers (if "fault" is even the right word), as Markus & McFeely, etc., are not openly volunteering these random factoids like Rowling is prone to do.1:57:03 Alex WardWould you like to see the Russos move over to the Star Wars universe? How likely do you think that'd be?1:58:00 Alex WardI think you've mentioned being a Game of Thrones fan before, so I was wondering what you think of the season so far? With the common criticism of Benioff and Weiss being that they are better at adapting than coming up with their own material, how do you think they'd fare in the MCU?2:00:45 Michael WeaselboyHey Sean I was just wondering how do you think Marvel will try to make Namor different from Aquaman if/when he gets his own movie in the MCU?? Also do you think he will stay unlikeable?? I know the Universal rights issue holds that up but still. Thoughts?? See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Sean answers your Marvel questions!01:32 Woo S! KimAfter seeing what has happened on Marvel Television series' this past year and I didn't believe you fully for years, Sean.  Whether it be on Superhero News, on this podcast when it was called “Making Mine Marvel” or when you rebranded the podcast to its current name that the Marvel TV universe wasn't fully connected with the MCU proper universe, I concede your point, you were correct and I was incorrect perhaps this may change after the Disney/FOX perhaps it will, possibly it may not.  My question is there are so many names for humans with powers in Marvel right now and there will be a famous name that Disney will be able to use in the very near future, I am currently starting Season Two of “The Runawayz” what would you call the characters that have powers on that series?  Going back to my earlier statement could one call them Mutants because my geek mind is remembering that there are some Mutants  that get their powers not through natural genetic mutation, would you be alright with Marvel TV using the name Mutants, even though certain characters will never reference the or team up with the X-Men? Or would you prefer Marvel TV using the term that Captain Rogers used in “Avengers: Age of Ultron”  “Enhanced.”  Me personally there are so many different types of humans with powers in Marvel, and there is going to be even more in two years in the MCU, unless they are identified as an Inhuman etc. I just call a human with powers, a “Hybrid Human.” I may have gotten that name from a Marvel comic, I can't recall.   What are your thoughts, Sean?5:38 Woo S! KimI remember before “Avengers Infinity War” you did not like the idea of the Iron Spider armour from the source material being brought over into the MCU reason being because you said the color scheme from the comics Iron Spider looked too similar from Iron Man's Red and Gold armour, being that Feige and his team differentiated the MCU version from the comics, do you like the Iron Spider Armor in “Avengers: Infinity War?” Also, do you think the Iron Spider armor is a nanotech attachment I just say that because of how the armor connected with Spidey above Earth's atmosphere and how Spidey's armor looks almost exactly like Iron Man's Nanotech Armor, especially how their helmets come on and off in “Avengers: Infinity War”    Lastly, I would prefer in future Avengers films, if Tom Holland's Spidey is going to stick around for the long haul, that he use some version of The Iron Spider armor, what say you, Sean?08:28 Woo S! KimSelfishly after seeing the “Captain Marvel” Special Look on January 7th, after seeing Captain Danvers in the tavern with Nick Fury, I want Thor to survive the Battle with Thanos so we can see a drinking contest between Captain Danvers v. Thor in a future Avengers film, I think Captain Danvers has a good chance of out drinking Thor, what are your thoughts Sean?09:22 Paul ShearmanHey Sean and patrons hope you're all well this week. So, Spider-Man Far From Home trailer - wow! I won't post spoilers in case people haven't seen it yet, but I loved it. The stand out question for me, of course, is - pre or post snap?Im sure you'll be covering the whole trailer (this would be very weird if you didn't!) and I'm looking forward to catching your video reaction later on (one bit in particular at the end I'm sure will be really fun to watch your reaction!).Thanks for your time Sean, and enjoy the rest of your week everyone!13:43 Zachary KleinsasserHey Sean and fellow patrons! Hope everyone is having a great week. I had a thought during your Spider-Man rant on the January 11th Daily Bugle. If Marvel is in talks to purchase Spider-Man and bring him back home, what happens to the ‘Into the Spiderverse' Franchise. I loved that movie and it propelled Miles's and Peter's Spidermen to the top of my favorite lists. I would hate to see the potential for what that universe could be go away. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks for all that you do!17:22 Alex WardHi Sean and patrons! Great talking with many of you in Discord yet again this week! I was wondering, do you think Marvel Studios will treat X-Men like the Guardians in terms of having their own team-movie series from the get-go, or will they more likely set them up as their own sub-franchise like the Avengers, where we see separate movies first (maybe, in this case, Wolverine, Storm, Brotherhood of Mutants, etc.) come together for an event "X-Men" movie? Or are the characters too interdependent on each other to standalone, at least through Marvel Studios' perspective? I can't help but think Marvel Studios has bigger plans for X-Men than many of us expect!21:11 Spencer ToycenHey there, Sean! Just a quick question regarding the Kree-Skrull War and possible MCU storylines. Is there any room for Rick Jones in the MCU? He's been a sidekick to everyone, most notably sharing atoms with Mar-Vell, but there's zero chance he'll show up in couple months. Thanks for the podcast and all the hard work!23:42 Alex WardWhat do you think is implied by the construction scene in the Far From Home trailer, and what do you hope it means? https://twitter.com/CharlesMurphTHS/status/1085244708094382084?s=1927:46 AlexSo Sean, it just dawned on me  that there could be some problems with bringing the X-Men and Fantastic Four instead the same world. Particularly since the X-Men are traditionally hated and disliked while the FF are traditionally beloved. I get that there is difference between being a mutant like Charles Xavier and a mutate like Reed Richards but  would people in real life really even care to make that distinction?  Why would the public fear and detest Mutants like Scott Summers and Jean Grey while at the same time revere Mutates who are arguably freakier than a lot of Mutants like Mr. Fantastic — who can stretch? And especially The Thing who's literally the most freakish of them all? Why are the FF not even commonly mistaken for Mutants when there's already an overlap between them and the Mutants? These are serious logic questions that Feige and his team have to address in order to make the integration of these characters they're getting from Fox believable. 32:40 Alexif Peyton Reed were to be offered a choice between directing the first ever MCU Fantastic Four or directing the third installment of Ant-Man which do you imagine  he'd choose over the other? I'm sure you know as well I do  that Peyton has always expressed interest in directing FF and he was even tapped to direct the movie as far as the earl 2000's before  he left over creative differences. Reed in a recent Colider Q&A for Ant-Man & The Wasp pointed out that Feige was there as an assistant developing the movie so Feige is aware of Reed's interest in the property therefore making him a very strong candidate to direct FF.  It would be interesting for things to come full circle and he ends up directing the film but my problem is I'm no fan of Reed(the director, not the stretchy guy)  and would much rather have an independent new director who brings something new to the table like Ryan Coogler, Jon Watts,  Chloé Zhao and Cate Shortland. Sure the Russo's started out making Captain America films before helming  two big Avengers films but that should be the exception to the rule and I'd still much prefer a different director take over director duties for  the FF.37:42 David RosenHey Sean and Friends! Another week, another MCU trailer. It looks like Sony/Marvel tried to do their best in terms of not giving away when this movie takes place, including photo-shopping Peter's passport to remove all the years,  including when it was issued as it seems Peter is picking up it up from a Passport office and that would give it away (although I wonder if he didn't need one to go Germany in Civil War). However, I was wondering if Nick Fury's clothes might also give away something, as he's back in his black outfit, which we haven't seen him wear since CA: Winter Soldier. Since he was still wearing street clothes in the Infinity Way post-credits scene, is the fact that he's back in black a clue that this takes place after Avengers, End Game?40:47 Alex WardOne major Avenger we haven't seen onscreen yet is She-Hulk, but I suspect this partially has to do with the Universal deal, and partially to do with her somewhat-sexist superhero name. Do you think it's possible that if Bruce dies in Endgame or gets "cured," that the next Hulk will be Jennifer Walters (perhaps dropping the "She-")?42:07 Brett HeierHey Sean! I just watched the Spiderman Far From Home trailer, I thought it looked amazing. In one scene Nick Fury and someone else are shooting at the Earth elemental. The other person looked similar to Maria Hill. Do you agree or think that is someone else. Another thing, when Mysterio shows up his powers seem very real, I know he's a special effects master but his powers looked similar to Dr. Strange's. Also, do you think maybe the elementals are just projections by Mysterio so he can look like a hero? Finally, there has been a lot of talk about there being a Sif show. Personally, I would love to see that. I know you would rather have her in a Valkerye show, but what are your thoughts about sif's possible show and her absence from Thor Ragnarok. As always, thanks for having an awesome podcast!47:24 Michael Louis WeaselboyHey Sean I how is your week going?? I hope it is well. So I just watched the Spiderman Far From Home Trailer I loved seeing Mysterio for that brief second and the action looks cool as well. One think I am wondering about tho is what is Vultures role in it?? We know Michael Keaton is in the movie but do you think he has a brief cameo or maybe just a bit part? Thoughts??49:12 AlexWhat are the chances of Nick Fury actually be the Chameleon in disguise who's in cahoots with Mysterio?51:01 Xavier ArquerosHi Sean and fellow Patrons. So I'm going to L.A. in early May and I want to see Avengers Endgame in the best movie theatre possible. I would love a Dolby Cinema or a great IMAX screen. Thanks Sean, keep the good work.53:51 Hector Giovanni NavarreteHey Sean and fellow Patrons! So with Nick Fury appearing at the end of IW and potentially coming back in AE, starring in CM, as well as being in SM FFH, and that rumor that said he was either going to be in a D+ series or lead one; do you believe he is going to have an important role in the MCU moving forward past AE and into Phase 4 (if that's what it's called)? If so, how do you think he will be used? I'm glad that he is coming back after a long absence after AoU!55:58 Derek BeebeHi Sean, this is my first time Qing for your A, so I apologize if this has already been done. What do you think of the current Marvel cartoons?  (Avengers, Spider-Man, GOTG)  Are you watching them on the reg? I just read an article rumoring they're about to cancel all the series for the Disney Plus switch.  Do you know anything about that?57:25 Derek BeebeWhat did you think of the last generation of Marvel cartoons?  (Avengers EMH, Spectacular Spiderman, Wolverine and X-Men, Iron Man Armored Adventures)  I was particularly enamored with AEMH and SSPM!57:29 Derek BeebeWhat's your opinion of the 90s Spider-Man and X-Men series?  Those were my introduction to the comics and they hold a special place in my heart, though both had terrible final seasons.58:46 Derek BeebeWhy would Peter know who Nick Fury is in Far From Home?  Isn't he a secret spy?  (you answered this in Discord but I figure it makes for good radio)1:00:17 Derek BeebeWhat's your opinion on when Far From Home takes place?1:00:30 Derek BeebeIf Mysterio is an American character, what's his excuse for showing up when these monsters attack in Europe?1:00:57 AlexWhat do you think about my idea  of when the MCU X-Men happens  the they have the X-Men  get in the colorful comic-accurate costumes and MCU Wolverine laments the fact that they wear such flashy costumes only for MCU Scott to respond with,"What would you prefer black1 leather spandex?" See what I did there?1:01:29 AlexHow would you handle the FF's celebrity status in the MCU if they might potentially will appearing in the MCU as modern day heroes  after the Avengers and Spider-Man have shown to be big superhero celebrities already?1:03:25 AlexWhen discussing the prospect of ending the era of the MCU that started in 2008 with ''Iron Man" Feige cited The Star Trek Next Generation series finale ''All Good Things..'' as a reference for how to wrap up a series.  Though obviously the MCU will continue past Endgame have you for curiosity's sake checked out that episode of Trek and I realize I'm asking you this question not knowing whether or not you're a Star Trek fan.  When Feige  mentioned that episode he pointed out that episode wasn't about death  but about the finality it brought to the characters --namely Picard in which he pointed out that character started playing poker with the rest of crew which should've done earlier.  While obviously that doesn't mean nobody will die  since Fiege was merely using that as  an example to illustrate his point but I gotta say it makes me wonder can Marvel get away with not really killing anybody in Endgame?1:10:16 Moonie HassanHey Sean, so I was having a discussion about what the FFH indicates to the end of Endgame, if what Feige said was true about FFH picking up minutes right after Endgame, then doesn't the tone from the FFH trailer seem a bit off? You would think it would be a bit more somber or down, unless the hero's that were dusted return without any memory of what happened in Infinity War, thoughts?1:15:11 Hector Giovanni NavarreteIn regards to the D+ series, would the actor reprising their roles to play these characters have had to have signed new deals/contracts in order to do so? I am assuming they did have to. If so, is that a good sign that these actors/actresses like playing these characters in the MCU? See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Things Past. We know that Odo has a colored past. He held the post of security chief under the regime of Gul Dukat during the occupation of Bajor. As an outsider, he would seem to be the ideal candidate to protect the Bajorans from unchecked Cardassian brutality. But while he sees himself as the voice of justice, a strict adherence to policy can lead to wrong decisions. That's what happened when he allowed three innocent Bajorans to be executed on his watch. In this episode of The Ready Room, we're joined Mike Schindler, Mike Morrison, and Brandon-Shea Mutala to discuss the delayed aftermath of that event in the episode “Things Past.” It's a unique semi-flashback story that puts Odo in the shoes of one of the executed men—along with Sisko and Garak. Join us as we discuss Odo's choices, how DS9 builds its mythology, Quark during the Occupation, Kira's powerful moment, and much more. Plus, in our news segment, we discuss the writing team for the new Star Trek television series as well as the many flavors of Star Trek Beyond that are headed to theaters—including IMAX, IMAX Laser, Dolby Cinema, and the very unique Barco Escape.
