That big awards show that cast a long shadow over the whole movie business has come and finally gone. And yes, we'll talk about the Oscar telecast. We watched it. You might not have. Maybe you did. But now there are finally some new movies to talk about. Neil Rosen starts us off with "Wildflower." It's a coming-of-age film that follows Bea Johnson from birth to graduation as she navigates life with an intellectually disabled parent and an extended family who can't quite agree on the best way to help. That segues nicely into "Campions" in which a former minor-league basketball coach (Woody Harrelson) is ordered by the court to manage a team of players with intellectual disabilities.Bill Bregoli has something completely different - "65"which stars Adam Driver as an astronaut who crash lands on a mysterious planet only to discover he's not alone. And Bill McCuddy fills us in on "The Ritual Killer" which stars Morgan Freeman and its about a detective on the verge of retirement who teams with a professor of African Studies to track down a serial killer who is performing the ancient black magic practice of Muti. We've also got "The Quiet Girl." It's an Irish film about a quiet, neglected girl who is sent away from her dysfunctional family to live with foster parents for the summer. And we also look at Th New York Times Presents: Sin Eater: The Crimes of Anthony Pellicano." It's a two-part series on Hollywood's dirtiest P.I. Anthony Pellicano who is out of prison--and he's talking. Previously unseen evidence raises questions about why so few Hollywood stars faced consequences when Pellicano was exposed. It's time to forget about all those movies and shows you've been hearing about for the past 6 months and find something new. Preview on the Oscar Show for next weekend.
It's time for another ill-informed Oscar show! Especially given that Scott and I have only seen one of the best-picture-nominated films. So to fill the void, we invited Gregg Beever one of two Inglorious Hipsters, and Mark Jowett the twisted mind behind Deed The Inky, to join us and share their predictions. What happens next will blow your mind. But probably not. But we still hope you enjoy the show! Image by Hollywood Souvenir Shops on Flickr. Used under Creative Commons License.
Episode 182 - We return with our thoughts on the Oscars and announce the winner of the annual Oscar Challenge! www.stormfrontpros.com
Dave popped in for an impromptu episode of the Crow and Dave show. We talk about the Oscars, again. Crow has some ideas to make the show shorter and wonders how unions are driving the film industry overseas. The lanyard issue comes up again. We discuss Dave's exercise routine and why Crow does not exercise. Finally Crow opines on the Malaysian Ariline crash. Enjoy!
It's Oscar weekend! And this week's Fordham Conversation is all about the Academy Awards. Fordham Conversations producer Alen Kanlic talks to Matt Atchity, Editor in Chief of Rotten Tomatoes, to find out about movie reviews and how those affect nominations. Then, Chris Williams talks to Fordham professor Damian Lyons about how love and technology intersect as depicted in the Best Picture nominee, "Her."
Maureen and Trisha discuss their Oscar predictions!
Episode 181 - It's that time of year again! The guys give their picks for the annual Oscar Challenge! www.stormfrontpros.com
Recent Oscar news and a recap of our favorite films start out this week's episode. We then move into OSCAR PREDICTIONS! We give our picks for every major category, as well as throw in some extremely important trivia about the nominees (spoiler alert: we're predicting an EGOT!) We end the show with a brand new segment called DON'T WATCH THIS MOVIE. Listen in to find out more.
People love talking about movies — whether they're according-to-Hoyle qualified to or not. And we're no different. But Scott and I aren't going to deign to talk movies on our own, oh no! In this episode, we chat Oscars with Mark Jowett, Gregg Beever, and Erin Bourne — variously regulars on the Inglorious Hipsters podcast and Edmontonians at large! The panel does its best to guess — based both on Hollywood politics and the merits of the individual films — who will win the major categories, and even some of the minor ones. Give us a listen and share your predictions! Image by ebbandflowphotography on Flickr. Used under Creative Commons License.
Ben and Garrett go over some news and trailers and then get into their Oscar picks for the big categories that are part of the I’d Like To Beat The Academy Contest
