Send us a textKatie and Bridget get lost in the jungle as they re-watch the 80's movie: Predator! Come along as we follow a bunch of muscled, sweaty men (not Magic Mikes, unfortunately) who are traveling through the jungle in search of saving some hostages. What they don't know is that they are being hunted by an invisible being. Spoiler alert: it's the mofo Predator! When the men start getting killed off one by one they resort to blowing everything up, destroying the local ecosystem - via blowing everything up, and continuing to shoot guns even when their arms are blown off. But all that fails because what they really needed was mud! ...Just some mud! We've got Arnolds! We've got gratuitous violence! We've got Microsoft Paint CGI! We've even got a Predator that laughs at the end because why the fuck not! Released in 1987, it stars a cast of characters played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, Elpidia Carrillo, Bill Duke, Jesse Ventura, Sonny Landham, Richard Chaves, and Shane Black.

This week on The Pod Charles Cinecast, presented by The Prince Charles Cinema, our hosts Jonathan Foster and Fil Freitas get transferred to Gateway Prison, where they witness the evil warden subjecting a fellow inmate to some hard time because he previously broke out of another prison under his watch, which resulted in him being forced to run this horrible prison... or something...It's the penultimate episode of the BREAKING THE LAW, BREAKING THE LAW arc, and we are looking at the forgotten Sylvester Stallone prison film, LOCK UP (1989), also starring Donald Sutherland, Tom Sizemore, Sonny Landham, Frank McRae and a cameo from Danny Trejo. It's kind of like Rocky but set in prison, and not nearly as good. Join us, as we talk the silly plot, a random football scene, building cars and more Sly Stallone bombs, as we near the end of our prison sentence. It's actually a pretty fun film, that was lost in the shuffle of the late-80s, where Sly also released another more successful film that had some prison sequences with Tango & Cash. Don't sleep on it for a good laugh... "Your body has to be here, but your mind can be anywhere."If you enjoy the podcast, leave a Rating and Review! Jason Teasley and Mark Radulich present their 48 Hours/Another 48 Hours Movie Review. 48 Hrs. (pronounced 'forty-eight hours') is a 1982 American buddy cop action comedy film directed and co-written by Walter Hill, co-written by Larry Gross, Steven E. de Souza and Roger Spottiswoode, and starring Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy (in his film debut) as a cop and a convict, respectively, who team up to catch two hardened criminals. The title refers to the amount of time they have to solve the crime.Though it is predated by Richard Rush's Freebie and the Bean, the film is often credited as being the first in the "buddy cop" genre, later popularized by films such as Lethal Weapon, Bad Boys and Rush Hour. 48 Hrs. was Joel Silver's first title as a producer. Its supporting cast features Annette O'Toole, James Remar, Frank McRae, David Patrick Kelly, Sonny Landham, Jonathan Banks and Brion James. The musical score was composed by James Horner.Released by Paramount Pictures on December 8, 1982, 48 Hrs. was one of the most commercially successful films of 1982, and it received widespread acclaim from critics. It launched Murphy's film career, and earned him a Golden Globe Award nomination for New Star of the Year – Actor. A sequel, Another 48 Hrs., was released in 1990, also directed by Walter Hill, with Nolte and Murphy reprising their roles.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsosnapchat: markkind76FB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulich

This is actually the very first podcast we ever taped and it's still my favorite. In it, Craig, Rob, and I dig into this movie, talking about what Predator has to say about masculinity, geopolitics, and ultimately, which version of Arnold is the most powerful of them all. Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as Dutch, the head of an elite mercenary extraction squad who are sent deep into the Latin American jungle to “rescue” some high-level US diplomats. And they are quite the crew also including CIA operative Dillon played by Carl Weathers, Mac played by Bill Duke, Billy played by Sonny Landham, and Blaine played by Jesse “The Mind” Ventura – they have all of the firepower they could possibly need plus a cast including TWO future governors, so what could go wrong? Well there happens to be a special visitor from WAY out of town who's on the hunt….for human skulls. :o And this visitor has his own firepower, including laser guns which can dismember his victims along with cloaking technology allowing him to sneak up on them among the trees. What results is ONE hell of a battle between Man AND Alien directed by genre master John McTiernan who would go on to direct Die Hard the following year! That's right, this time on Planet 8, we take on that ugly mutha f#@%! -The Predator! An iconic creature design, and a classic original film, your crew takes a look at not only that first film, but the maybe not so great films that followed! The 1987 Predator, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, is one of the great sci fi action films, but the Predator itself went through many changes before we got the amazing alien hunter we see on screen. We'll go through all the mis-fires and how we eventually got the brilliant design from legendary Stan Winston and his team. Of course, you have to bring the suit to life, and we can't forget the portrayal of the Predator by the late Kevin Peter Hall. He gave the Predator a real sense of intelligence and personality. The first film also featured a very entertaining cast as the special crack team of commandos. Besides Arnold as the leader, Dutch, there was Jesse Ventura, Bill Duke, Sonny Landham, and Carl Weathers. This strong set of characters contributes to the enjoyment of the film, so that the viewer is glued to the screen even when the Predator is not around. Predator moves from action film to sci fi to horror and back around again, but does it flawlessly, with perfect pacing, keeping the suspense going in the early parts, right up to the final battle between Dutch and the Predator. It's hard to find fault in this film. Even Alan Silvestri's score is perfect! However, the subsequent cinematic appearances of the Predator have never measured up to the first one. Predator 2, with Danny Glover, Gary Busey, Ruben Blades, Maria Conchita Alonso, and Bill Paxton, was set in Los Angeles in 1997 (released in 1990) and featured a new predator hunting in the sweltering city. While it's still fun seeing the Predator, it just isn't as interesting as the original. The cast doesn't gel as well. But there are some cool bits, especially towards the end when Glover faces the Predator and enters his spaceship. The further we get away from the original, the more the quality suffers. AVP -Alien vs. Predator - seems like a sure fire concept, but it was a bit of a mess. AVP:Requiem -well, we didn't even rewatch it! 2010's Predators is somewhat entertaining, but we all agree, Adrien Brody was miscast as the tough special forces guy. It had some nice variations on the basic predator design though. But the worst of all the follow ups was 2018's The Predator - there are stories that this film was heavily rewritten and edited, but even so, good lord, what a terrible film. While not an official Predator film, a flick we do love is the short film Batman: Dead End, which features the Dark Knight versus both Predators and Aliens. You can see it here on YouTube. Will anyone ever be able to make another truly terrific Predator movie? What would it take? Is it just a limited concept? What do you think? For our Sensor Sweep this time, Recon Office Karen shares one of her beloved pieces from her collection, her Sideshow Legendary Scale Bust of the unmasked Predator. This was produced in 2011 and is still available from certain stores and on eBay. It's about 16" high and has all the fine detail we've come to expect from Sideshow. So if you're a big fan of the Predator, you might want to hunt it down! That's all for this time. In this episode Mark talks about one of his favourite films: the 1987 science fiction action horror film "Predator" directed by John McTiernan. The first installment in the Predator franchise, the film stars Arnold Schwarzeneggar as Major Alan "Dutch" Schafer, the leader of an elite paramilitary rescue team, who are recruited to save some hostages that have been imprisoned in guerilla-held territory in a Central American rainforest, but who unwittingly find themselves in the crosshairs of a Predator from a technologically-advanced alien race who stalk their targets while continuing to remain invisible and who hunt and kill those whom they see as their prey and who treat whomever they kill as trophies - including the members of an elite mercenary rescue team, whose numbers dwindle one by one as they face off and ultimately find themselves outmatched by this lone deadly extraterrestrial creature. The film also stars Carl Weathers as Dillion, Bill Duke as Sergeant Mac, Richard Chaves as "Poncho" Ramírez, Jesse Ventura as Blain, Sonny Landham as Billy, Shane Black as Hawkins, Elpidia Carrillo as Anna, R.G. Armstrong as Major General Phillips, and Kevin Peter Hall as The Predator. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/markthepoet/message
It's the big 1-0! What a milestone for our dumb little show. To mark it we return to the king, Arnold Schwarzenegger, for the first time since our inaugural episode with one of his career-defining roles, 1987's PREDATOR directed by John McTiernan. This is a movie that James knows like the back of his hand it shows (Bryne, not so much, and in fact Bryne appears to be confused about the Predator's existence and motivations. Classic overthinker). James tells a very sweet story about his history with PREDATOR that in a way, put him on a path we're currently continuing with this very show. The boys discuss their favorite one-liners in the movie, the sheer testosterone permeating through the screen, Shane Black's backstory with the movie, the horror aspects of the film, plot holes, and how Jean Claude Van Damme of all people was originally cast to play the Predator, of all people. Plus we dive into Sonny Landham's porn career, and James alludes to a huge personal problem. Adulthood!!! Predator was released on June 12, 1987, and Roy has been in love with this film since day one of its release. Is this another occurrence of what Sean calls being mugged by nostalgia? We unpack this and other discussions and disagreements over the quality of this sci-fi action masterpiece. Predator gives many gifts to movie-goers of all ages. The action and explosions are first rate. We are treated to many of the best one-liners in action cinema history and the genius of Stan Winston and his team. We see the magic of ‘Old Painless,’ the M-134 machine gun used by Blaine. Though you do not get much of a back story on the soldiers, the squad of Dutch, Blaine, Mac, Hawkins, Billy, and Poncho are an all-time team. Adding Dylan, pusher of pencils, adds to the joy as well. To complete the discussion, we mention some of the stories behind the production. The lengths they had to go to keep Sonny Landham on set is interesting. Did you know the director, John McTiernan, served time? There is a story behind a bet between future governors, Arnold and Jesse Ventura. It is funny and a little ridiculous. Add Carl Weathers’ sneaky gym stories, and you have some great behind the scenes stories. As our gift to the listeners (and ourselves), we are re-joined by Mike Scott. He is the host of Adkins Undisputed and co-host of the Dana Buckler Show. He has an encyclopedic mind for multiple genres of movies, but even without asking him, we have the utmost confidence that action is his favorite. We thank Mike for joining us and look forward to future episodes with him as our guest. Kiki is also back. She was on our Cuties episode.
Released in on June 12, 1987, up and coming director John McTiernan’s second film introduced action and horror fans to a brand new kind of extra-terrestrial threat. It was a bonafide box office hit when released due to its star-studded macho cast, while solidifying Arnold Schwarzenegger’s rising star power status. Alongside Schwarzenegger, the film cast Carl Weathers, Bill Duke, Jesse Ventura, Sonny Landham, Richard Chaves, and Shane Black as a group of commando mercenaries on a rescue mission in Central America who unknowingly encounter an alien creature bigger, badder, and more powerful than they are. The hunter we call…Predator. On this episode Tim Williams and guest co-host Laramy Wells discuss the 1987 Sci-Fi Action Blockbuster - “Predator”. Here are additional behind the scenes trivia that we were not able to cover on this episode: Both McTiernan and Schwarzenegger lost 25 pounds during the film. Schwarzenegger's weight loss was a professional choice while McTiernan lost the weight because he avoided the food in Mexico due to health concerns. Unlike McTiernan, most of the cast and crew suffered from traveler's diarrhea since the Mexican hotel in which they were living had problems with its water purification system. In an interview, Carl Weathers said the actors would secretly wake up as early as 3:00 a.m. to work out before the day's shooting. Weathers also stated that he would act as if his physique was naturally given to him and would work out only after the other actors were nowhere to be seen. The weapon that Blain (Jesse Ventura) is using is a minigun. This is a weapon most commonly mounted on the side of a helicopter and many, many modifications had to be made to make it usable in the film. It was powered via an electrical cable hidden down the front of Blain's trousers. The firing rate was slowed down to approximately one-third the normal rate of fire, both to reduce consumption of blanks, and to make the spinning of the barrels visible on film. It is rumored that Ventura had to wear a bulletproof vest, because of the forceful ejection of spent cartridges, but this is false. Unmodified miniguns eject out of the bottom, with the cases essentially falling out, due to gravity. Close examination of the film, especially the scene in which Mac fires the minigun at the fleeing predator, along with the other commandos, show that the ejection of the minigun was not changed. The "B" camera was given a reel of incorrect film stock, which is why some shots look a lot grainier than others. Did you know Jean-Claude Van Damme was the original alien in "Predator"? Big D tells about how the Muscles for Brussels tried to turn the Predator into a kickboxer from out of space and why Van Damme told film executives to kiss his balls. Learn more than you ever wanted to about mini-guns, jungle recon, and thermal imaging. And hear about how Sonny Landham was assigned a bodyguard to protect the natives he encountered. We talk about how the 3D enhanced certain scenes and other slight tweaks, even though hardly any are needed for this perfect movie! We also mention James Cameron's recent chat where he answered Gillinator's question about human Arnold in the next Terminator! Then we get pumped for Killing Gunther which was not out yet when this was recorded, but look for a review in the next episode!
