This week on Sustainability Now!, your host, Justin Mog, gets his hands dirty with two representatives from the Jefferson County Soil and Water Conservation District: Board Chair, Sarah Beth Sammons, and Environmental Educator, Bethany Pratt. Learn about the vital work being done to protect our natural resources here in Louisville and Mayor Greenberg's proposal to gut it. Learn more at https://jeffcd.org and Find them on social media @jeffcoswcd Established in 1944, the Soil and Water Conservation District is a governmental agency that works to protect Jefferson County's natural resources. This is done through a variety of means; technical assistance, financial assistance, and education. If you are reading this newsletter, you have likely participated in one or more of our programs. Unfortunately, the budget proposed by Mayor Greenberg for the next fiscal year plans to cut the District's already tiny budget by over 54%. If Metro Council passes the budget without restoring funding to the Conservation District, its employees will be terminated, its programs will cease, and conservation work will be severely damaged in Jefferson County. The Conservation District's Board of Supervisors is asking for your help to act in defense of conservation by demanding full funding of the Conservation District. You can help by filling out the Metro Council Budget Comment Form (https://louisvilleky.gov/government/2026-2027-louisville-metro-budget-comment-form) and contacting your Metro Council Representative (https://apps.lojic.org/metrocouncildistricts/). What is most important is that you tell Metro Council IN YOUR OWN WORDS how you have benefited from Soil & Water Conservation District programming. Metro Council is accepting online public comments through Friday, June 5, at 5:00 p.m. Metro Council is expected to continue hearings through May and June, with a final budget vote currently expected on June 25. As always, our feature is followed by your community action calendar for the week, so get your calendars out and get ready to take action for sustainability NOW! You'd think donuts and beer would be an easy sell. I mean, carbs and craft brews, what's not to love? That's exactly what Billy Sammons thought when he planned a beer and bakery pairing event. Creative, fun, and honestly, delicious. There was just one small problem. No one came. Billy knows referral marketing inside and out, which made this flop even more memorable. Because when a great idea falls flat, there's always something to learn if you're willing to look. And there definitely was. Takeaways: • A great idea still needs an invitation You can't just open the doors and hope people wander in. Even the tastiest event needs consistent promotion and personal outreach. • Don't keep all the donuts to yourself Billy partnered with a brewery and a bakery, but didn't tap into their audiences. Big miss. When you collaborate, you share the spotlight and the guest list. • Give them more than a sugar rush One activity sounds fun, but a few extra vendors or experiences turn curiosity into commitment. More to do means more reasons to show up. • Turn the flop into a formula Billy didn't just shrug this off. He built a checklist from everything that went wrong. That became his playbook for better, fuller events going forward. Planning your own event? Make it fun, make it memorable, but most of all, make sure people know about it. Because even the best donuts go stale if no one shows up to eat them.

Bass fishing is changing—and most anglers don't realize why.In this episode, I'm joined by Dr. Steve Sammons, one of the leading fisheries biologists in the country, to break down bass population dynamics and how modern bass management decisions are directly impacting the fishing we experience today. We dive into how bass populations actually function inside lakes and rivers, including recruitment, mortality, fishing pressure, genetics, and habitat limitations—and why simply “adding more bass” isn't always the solution. Dr. Sammons explains how management strategies shape bass size structure, catch rates, and long-term sustainability, and where anglers often misunderstand what's really happening beneath the surface. Most importantly, we challenge anglers to shift their perspective—from blaming management agencies or fishing pressure to understanding the biological tradeoffs that drive bass fisheries. Whether you fish tournaments or just want better day-to-day fishing, this episode will change how you think about bass fishing, conservation, and management. If you've ever wondered why some lakes produce giants, why others feel “overfished,” or how angler behavior influences bass populations, this is a must-listen conversation.

When was the last time you were pitch slapped? You know what I mean — you comment on someone's post, and suddenly your inbox is full of “personalized” pitches that feel anything but personal. In this episode, I chatted with Billy Sammons of Live Local Marketing, who believes it's time to push back against the noise and get back to what actually works: real, human connections. Billy's been building local marketing communities for 15 years, and his message is refreshingly simple — relationships still matter. Here's what stood out from our conversation: Go old-school — because it still works. As digital spaces get more crowded, buyers tune out. Billy says the antidote is face-to-face connections that make people feel seen and valued. Start small, start local. Forget the cold calls. Walk into a business you already support, strike up a conversation, and collaborate on something that helps you both. Keep it simple. You don't need a fancy setup. A phone, a $19 mic, and a tripod are all it takes to start creating local content that connects. Be genuine. Giving only works when it's authentic. If you help someone and immediately flip to a sales pitch, you've lost the magic. Stop chasing viral. The diamonds are in your own backyard — meaningful, local relationships that grow your business organically. Billy's reminder is a good one: You don't have to go viral to be valuable. Sometimes the best marketing starts with a handshake and a conversation. About Billy Sammons With 15 years of experience, Billy teaches proven strategies—like filming video commercials with local business owners—that put you in front of the right people, build stronger relationships, and generate long-term clients. Love to hear from you; “Send us a Text Message”What if the money system itself is designed to work against your values? Eric Sammons, editor-in-chief of Crisis Magazine and author of "Moral Money: The Case for Bitcoin," makes a compelling case that our current monetary system is fundamentally immoral.Government-issued currencies like the US dollar can be created at will, funding unpopular wars and expensive programs while devaluing the money citizens hold. This forces people into increasingly risky investments just to maintain their savings against inflation's constant erosion. For young people today, perhaps hoping to get married some day and start families, this creates what Sammons calls "financial nihilism" - a sense that long-term planning is pointless when the system is stacked against them.Whether you're a tech enthusiast or just concerned about the moral implications of our financial system, this conversation challenges conventional thinking about money.  Discover why Sammons believes Bitcoin might be the most moral form of money ever created.Purchase Moral Money: The case for Bitcoin Visit Eric SammonsJacks Latest Blog: Building the City of God or the City of ManFollow us and watch on X: John Paul II Renewal @JP2RenewalSubscribe to our Newly Resurrected YouTube Channel!Sign up for our Newsletter: https://jp2renew.org/Support the show

Has modern evangelicalism forgotten about key aspects of who God is? In this episode of The Missions Podcast, Alex and Scott welcome Dr. Peter Sammons, Associate Director of Academic Development at Founders Seminary, to discuss the "forgotten attributes" of God—those less-discussed incommunicable aspects of God's nature. Sammons argues that modern Christians tend to focus on God's relational and communicable attributes (like love and kindness) because they are easier to grasp and more emotionally resonant. Sammons stresses that a proper understanding of God's essence and metaphysical attributes is crucial for true worship and doctrinal precision. The discussion also explores why understanding God's immutable nature is essential, especially in missions. Many pagan and world religions depict gods as moody and human-like, but the Christian God stands apart as wholly other, unaffected by human emotion or manipulation. This, Sammons emphasizes, highlights the necessity of theological depth for missionaries. Without it, missionaries risk portraying God as just another tribal deity. Key Points Forgotten Attributes: Focus on God's immutability, impassibility, and aseity, which are often overshadowed by more "relatable" attributes. Essence of God: Importance of understanding God's essence versus merely his relational attributes. Modern Challenges: Cultural and intellectual laziness has led to theological illiteracy and avoidance of difficult doctrines. Missional Importance: Proper theological understanding is critical for distinguishing the Christian God from false deities in missions work. Training Solutions: Founders Seminary offers a Master of Arts in Cultural Apologetics and Missions to deepen theological literacy for missionaries, even remotely. Do you love The Missions Show?
