We would regularly stop to take heed of our surroundings. Crouched, we attempted to tune into the immediate environment, allowing the surroundings to occupy our senses so we could better filter what was going on around us. I was not the first to see it; that honour goes to my then-friend, who I shall not name as it is not my place to recant on his behalf. I know that he reached back with his arm without shifting his gaze from what he had seen and grabbed my arm. I looked where his head was fixated and saw it for the first time. It appeared crouched, almost as if it were mimicking our actions, no more than 20 or so metres from us. Although in that moment, I was unclear as to what I was looking at, what I can say was that it was large, to my eyes and mind, it was huge, black in colour, and not stationary, as I could see it moving ever so slightly from side to side.With all of us now firmly transfixed, it raised what I believe to be its head. The singular sizeable black mass now had a head, with two large triangular-shaped ears set at the top of the head. This was not a dog or one of the big cats, and its next action told me my assertions were not wrong. With a distinct, slow deliberateness, it stood up. This week we wanted to focus on making the most mobile characters we could, and it was intriguing to see the different directions we took to get there. Everyone's got a unique idea and cool plan for optimizing a TTRPG character build for your DnD 5e games. But what if your parameters were a bit askew? Or what if you wanted to semi-optimize, but flavor it around a specific roleplay concept? Well friends, look no further! We give you "Twisted Builds"! What are Twisted Builds, you ask? We set up 10 simple rules to follow. Listen in on any Twisted Builds episode and get some interesting ideas for new characters down the road. Or, write in and tell us how we did it all wrong! The rules are simple. Establish a Theme. Declare a Concept. Impose a Twist. All characters are level 10 using Point-Buy. All races and classes are acceptable without explanation. All of Tasha's Optional Rules can be used. No Homebrew unless it's semi-official on DnDBeyond. Multiclassing is allowed but must follow requirements for Ability Scores. No magic items unless the class somehow grants them. Any mundane items are allowed. All Subclasses can only ever be used up to a total of 10 levels. We want to showcase different builds. Established setting will be within the world we've been creating in other Workshops. We'll continue adding things to the world in future episodes! These builds are purely for fun and quirky concepts. When a newspaper reporter from the Philadelphia Inquirer traveled to the remote mountain wilderness of Clinton County in 1890 in search of a story, he discovered more than the rustic ways and quaint customs of the backwoods hill people-- he discovered an unspeakable horror. It was in Sugar Valley where the Inquirer reporter discovered William Bierly, an elderly man, known to locals as a "raving lunatic", who had been chained like a wild beast for 35 years and forced to live inside a wooden pen.
