April is well upon us and we here at Cinema Degeneration thought it was time for another Appreciation Month topic! We bring to you a celebration of the life and career of the late great filmmaker Mr. Albert Pyun. Pyun was a maverick director with over 50 directing credits to his resume before he passed away unfortunately in late 2022. Often operating well outside the studio system Pyun delivered films the only way he knew how...his way. We are continuing the adventures and our 2nd episode with what is one of Pyun's more obscure films with the 1997 action crime story "MEAN GUNS", starring Christopher Lambert, Ice T, Thom Mathews, Yuji Ohumoto and more. This action packed and quick witted crime thriller is a story about what happens when you lock 100 killers in an empty prison and make them fight to the death! Join Cameron Scott and co-host Lee Russell as they discuss this hidden gem and go off on a few rants including, but not limited to, Guy Ritchie and Quentin Tarantino films, Smokin' Aces and even Steven Seagal at one point. Join us for a month long celebration of the expansive Pyuniverse! "You have all betrayed the syndicate. Maybe in little ways over a long period of time. Maybe once. Maybe one big time. Maybe something in between. You blabbed, you stole, you plotted, you saw too much, maybe you did too little."

October is upon us and we here at Cinema Degeneration thought it was time for another Appreciation Month topic! We bring to you a celebration of 'Single Serving Slashers', slasher movies that never got a sequel. There are plenty of chapters in the sagas of Chucky, Jason, and Freddy; however, we wanted to honor those often overlooked slashers that only graced the screen in one thrilling film. For the 7th chapter on these colorful killers we drop another flick from the 80's with "HOUSE ON SORORITY ROW" from 1982. Written and directed by Mark Rosman this movie came out during the heyday of slasherdom. This tale is filled with all the tropes...pranks gone wrong, double crosses, evil doctors, sorority sisters being stalked and killed one by one, red herrings galore, and the party to end all parties! Join our hosts Cameron Scott and the rest of the crew at the 'Last Call At Torchy's Podcast' Gary Hill and Lee Russell, as they take a deep dive into this underappreciated gem in the rough that goes to show that when the nightmare ends the terror begins. "You're the last one of your friends alive. You're the bait."

We here at Cinema Degeneration have declared May 2022 "Rutger Hauer Appreciation Month!" Twice a week we'll be releasing a show diving into a different film from Mr. Hauer's catalog of 175 film and television roles all throughout the month of May. The late Rutger Hauer, who unfortunately passed away in 2019, was a consummate professional thespian, writer, director, and devoted environmentalist, amongst many many other things. He graced the silver screen in many amazing shockers and brilliant films, normally playing heavies and villains and was known for his intense yet subtle performances. His amazing talent truly knew no bounds. For our 8th episode we bring you Hauer's first leading role in Hollywood with the 1983 thriller "THE OSTERMAN WEEKEND" from legendary director Sam Peckinpah. This spy espionage adventure is star studded with such actors as Chris Sarandon, Dennis Hopper, Craig T. Nelson, Meg Foster, Burt Lancaster and John Hurt. Based off the Robert Ludlum novel the film was plagued with production troubles, including an ailing Peckinpah directing from his death bed (this would be his final film) this action drama is so convoluted that it's amazing that it was ever finished in the first place. Join our hosts Cameron Scott and his compadres from the 'Last Call At Torchy's' podcast Gary Hill and Lee Russell as three of them talk about one of the most confusing Rutger Hauer films available. "The truth is just a lie that hasn't been found out."

In this episode, we had the opportunity to sit down with Lee Russell of Russell Pool Company in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Russell Pool Company was founded by Roy and Betty Russell in 1965, and today it is owned and operated by Keith and Lee Russell who have continued the tradition of designing and developing beautiful swimming pools. We all know that pool construction is a science, Lee shares with us why that is especially the case in Louisiana's unique environment, which includes year-round rainfall, high humidity, and shifting soil. In addition to pool construction, Russell Pool Company has a pool service division and operates a retail store. Ever since we first met Lee and got to know him at a Tributary event, we knew we had to have him on to share what he knows. Lee talks with us about what it is like being in a multi-generation family business and the ups and downs that come with it. He also shares several business tactics that he has implemented since he became one of the owners. To this day, Lee still plumbs in their equipment sets and is very involved in the day to day operations of the business because he truly loves what he does. The Russell Pool Company story is a special one that deserves to be told and we are honored to share it with you all. Dr. Snuggles and friends return for episode 63 of your guide to the truly astonishing world of softcore films, and the world’s number one podcast on that subject! We’ve reached the final installment of the Embrace the Darkness trilogy already. Part II was one of the best movies we’ve done in a long time (according to everyone other than Jimmy Ether, at least). Will Part III get the same kind of amazing reception? We’ve got two guests - Lee Russell from They Must Be Destroyed On Sight! podcast and film composer/musician Timothy Fife - to help us work that out. It goes in some weird directions, let’s just say that. This time, Jennifer has to decide between a romance with a mortal journalist, and one with a 200 year old vampire named Victor who wants to make her the Queen of the Vampires. What will she choose? The answer will - quite honestly - surprise you. That said, the big surprise is also the most disappointing thing about the film - fan favourite vampiric weirdo Jack is written out of the film very early on. RIP Jack. Your bizarre line delivery will never be forgotten. Out-acting the heck out of practically everyone in this movie is the always delightful Tiffany Shepis. Naturally, we focus on her life and career in our Spotlight, which is handy because it turns out Lee is a SUPER FAN. She’s well on her way to 150 credits on IMDB, and she’s only just hit 40. And it’s worth noting that at least a handful of those credits are with friend of the show Rolfe Kanefsky! Hey, why not call us on our hotline? (724) 246-4669! Then, Michael Dudikoff leads a party into the jungle to find treasure and of course Nazis. Robert Vaughn and Donald Pleasance snore, L.Q. Jones and Herbert Lom shine and Dudikoff monologues in River of Death from 1989.

Cinema Beef is back again this week and we’re packing heat with two films that have two protagonists showing some bad men a little respect. I am joined by Lee Russell of They Must Be Destroyed On Sight Podcast to get down and dirty with these two masterful picks. In Sunday In The Country, Ernest Borgnine takes a few baddies captive and fucks with them for a while in a Canuck-sploitation flick that you should seek out. In Straw Dogs, Dustin Hoffman ignores his beautiful wife and his own masculinity until some bad man try to burn down his home and get theirs in an incredible finale. Simpson also star in Gary’s pick of Killer Force aka The Diamond Mercenaries.

Gary is joined by Lee Russell from They Must Be Destroyed On Sight podcast to dive back into the Cannon vault for two more gems. In Street Smart, Christopher Reeve plays an investigative reporter who is getting a little too far into his story involving a smooth talking pimp played by Morgan Freeman in his first feature film. Then in Superman 4 The Quest For Peace, Reeve puts on the tights and is pitted against Lex Luthor’s Nuclear Man in this farcical, under-budgeted dynamo.
The brilliant Daniel Harper joins the amazing Lee Russell and the senile James Murphy for a discussion on the last ever Amicus films. Drunken pilots keeping a tally of the pterodactyls they're shooting out of the sky, scantily clad cave women, WW1 submarine soldiers, and Peter Cushing's gargantuan drill.

Get out your Aqua Net go get stoned with a savage. The beef is back with some new reviews for you. I am sans Jamie and X on this one. I am joined by two very capable folks being Lee Russell from They Must Be Destroyed On Sight and Willis Wheeler of N.F.W. and Two Drink Minimum Commentaries and of course Terror Troop. We cover two films where white folks are messing where they shouldn’t have been messing being the slasher in the snow with Blood Tracks and the Michael Berryman machete wielding, drug infused, Jonestown promoting and Willie Aames loving Cut and Run.

Mike, Max and Shane discuss their bachelor weekend in Miami and the responsibility of “checking in” with their significant others. Jody Hill (“The Foot Fist Way”) and David Gordon Green (“Pineapple Express”) tell Mike about collaborating with HBO, their shared brand of humour, working on “Vice Principals” for two seasons, original plans for the script, developing characters, onscreen chemistry, David working with Nicolas Cage and exploring a variety of genres. Danny McBride (“Eastbound and Down”) and Walton Goggins (“Justified”) tell Mike about Walton’s interest in comedy, how Danny got his start in acting, their history together, casting Walton as Lee Russell, inspiration for the characters and how they define success. For dessert, Shane describes his reaction to Alex’s pregnancy test results.
Lee Russell and James Murphy continue their terrifying journey through the filmography of Amicus Productions with their most fun episode yet. They talk a classic anthology with tiny murderous dolls, the voodoo-enthused extremities of a dismembered body, strange tailors (ooooh), and pretty young scissor wielding women. How can you not listen?

James and still-fresh new awesome co-host Lee Russell continue to look at the Amicus genre films with this Christopher Lee starring version of the Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde story. Both were surprised at just how good this film was. It's available on YouTube in full if you want to check it out before listening.

Welcome to Episode 103 where the loose theme is stuff that Tom Savini worked on...granted this was not my most creative double bill, however I like to think that the movies speak for themselves. We're back! A quick regeneration for one of us, but City of the Dead has returned from its mouldy tomb. James and new co-host Lee Russell (of the excellent They Must Be Destroyed On Sight podcast) are here to tackle the next Amicus horror film. They're viewing vampires! Watching witches! Seeing stranglers! And dealing with decapitators!
On the third anniversary of the release of the first episode of MBSing, MBS holed up in a studio and took 35 calls from past guests of the show. The topics ranged from specific episode updates to current concerns to catching up. Here's the fourth installment of nine calls from friends: Nick Johnson, who shared a story about the worst NOFX concert experience he has ever had. Bryan Duff, who addressed some FAQs he gets about his episode re gluten, food allergies, and paying attention to what your body wants and needs nutritionally. Claire Friedman, who realized her life changed pretty drastically mere days after recording her episode. Eileen Tull, who gets to rejoice over The Force Awakens surpassing her expectations for it. Kevin Budnik, who ran me through a Kid's Choice Awards ballot from a 1998 issue of Nickelodeon Magazine. Erin Lann, who talked to me about giant, penis-resembling ocean worms. Julie Marchiano, who asked me about my dad in Cats and explored the change her gluten allergy has had on her hot dog enjoyment. Mark Colomb, who questioned my continued enjoyment of podcasting and speaks to the effect his change in environment and employment has had on his own podcasting habits. Lee Russell, who asked me if I'd seen any horror films recently and recommended The Invitation, Green Room, and The Lobster. Thanks to Iron Galaxy and The Chicago Podcast Cooperative.
In this episode, Shana and Daniel are joined by Lee Russell of the They Must Be Destroyed on Sight podcast to discuss Resurrection of the Daleks. This was Lee's first exposure to the Fifth Doctor era, so lots of general Davison stuff is discussed in lieu of trying to specifically analyze this mess of a Doctor Who story. Although Shana ships Tegan and Laird pretty hard. Main Topic: Resurrection of the Daleks. With special guest Lee Russell of They Must Be Destroyed on Sight. Not the premier Davison episode. Davison not ready. Bland. "The Tegan era." Tegan and Laird. Turlough on the Dalek ship. Everybody dies. Davros. Rasta Androids. "A Dalek With Sour Cream." Kinda shallow. Too ambitious? "I'm sure Moffat would say that." Office-appropriate punk. "Let's go have some sex and then try to save things." Metal detector. Lytton. Kind of a Nazi vibe, but not in a racist way. Should the Doctor kill Davros? Rehashing Genesis. Better-handled in the New Series. Darker Doctor. Davison's interiority. Clip show. Smith and Davison. Diversity. The Daleks and their human helpers. Stein the Stutterer. Biological essentialism. The Nazi race in metal form. Rewriting. Davros without the Daleks. They've got legs. Turlough. Dalek Bukkake. Tegan and Janet. Next week: The Eleventh Hour/The Big Bang. Find They Must Be Destroyed on Sight here. Lee's Twitter handle is @Houghly_Reviews, and his Youtube channel is here. Find Our Stuff! Find us on iTunes! Jobber Radio Episode Eighteen -- "Peanuts Replacement" (11/21/15) Hosted by: Bomber, Matt Zion, Rab & Lee - Of course we are only two episodes back and Peanut no-shows! So filling in his spot we have Lee Russell a friend of Matt Zion and a youtuber! On this episode the cast sits down to talk about WWE Survivor Series which is only a day away! The card is analyzed as well as several predictions made. Who will win the WWE World Title Tournament? What match will steal the show? What match will bomb? Will there even be a Survival Series Match!?! Everyone talks about the good and bad things that will come from Survivor Series, including how much better it will be than last years. That and so much more! Enjoy! Tune in Bi-Weekly on youtube's Wreckless Eating as well as on iTunes.
Time for some spooky scary movie talk with dear friend Lee Russell. Lee and I have taken the stage together in the Annoyance Theatre's send up of slasher movies, Splatter Theatre, for three years now, and in this ep we get to really break down the source material. From Nightmare on Elm Street to It Follows, Lee has grown up with horror films from a probably too early age and is willing to get into the why of his love for them. The emotions and drive behind these scary stories intrgue him more than the startles and blood, and he aspires to one day make a horror film of his own. Thanks to Basecamp and the Chicago Podcast Cooperative for sponsoring, organizing, and supporting..
In this episode of Oi! Spaceman, Daniel and Shana are joined by Lee Russell of Hougly Reviews and the They Must Be Destroyed on Sight! podcast (often co-hosted by Daniel, so go check it out). They discuss the Third Doctor romp "The Sea Devils," with mentions of some terrible creature effects, campy overacting from Roger Delgado, and what Mac Hulke's socialism meant for his work on Doctor Who. Main Topic: The Sea Devils. Introducing Lee. Shana's initial thoughts on The Sea Devils: fashion victims. With a political subtext. "You don't have to pay attention to that shit!" The Sea Devils in context with the Pertwee Era. Pertwee driving around in boats and Jo Grant getting shit done. A very typical but atypical Pertwee. Can't compare Jo to Liz. Not quite a father/daughter relationship. Moving on to the Master. Eleven-dimensional chess. A useful idiot. The Three/Master dynamic. Turtle drag queens and wisdom. The Master watches the Clangers. Repeated plots in the Silurian stories. Dudes in rubber masks talking politics. "Reverse the polarity of the neutron flow." Parlaimentary Private Secretary Walker. Is Walker a stand-in for Barry Letts? Stupid Sexy Military. Sandwiches and swordfights. Dickish Jon Pertwee. Would Liz Shaw put up with it? Lee and Daniel talk about the beer can. Did Jo kill a guard? The death of Roger Delgado. Malcolm Clarke's score. The Sea-Doo chase. Screwdriver usage. Wrapping up. Next week: The Three Doctors. Find Our Stuff! Find us on iTunes! Or Facebook! We love email (oispacemanpodcast@gmail.com)! And all our episodes are on oispaceman.libsyn.com. Daniel's Tumblr Twitter Shana's Tumblr Twitter You can find Lee's Youtube page here and the They Must Be Destroyed on Sight podcast here. Daniel's a regular co-host of the podcast, so if you want to hear him talk about non-Doctor Who things, go check it out for sure.
Daniel Harper and Lee Russell kick off Nazi Zombie Month with the Jean Rollin "classic". Can a movie with so many naked women be as bad as its reputation would lead one to believe? We also talk a bit about Jack Nicholson, films we've seen recently, and Lee reviews the new John Carpenter album "Lost Themes"."Zombie Lake".John Carpenter's "Lost Themes".End Song: "Ricciolo" by Ennio Morricone.
