Hoy recordaremos la vida de la única mujer que emigró a España y consiguió vivir 50 años de okupa con derecho a canapé en un palacio sin que nadie le pidiera contrato de alquiler. Discreta, mística y más rara que la ropa interior de Pedro J. Ramírez, hoy hablaremos de Irene de Grecia de Hannover, la princesa que vino de fuera para enseñarnos que se puede ser Alteza Real y vestir como si acabaras de salir de un retiro espiritual en Albacete. Irene nació el 11 de mayo de 1942 en Ciudad del Cabo porque su familia estaba de "vacaciones" mientras Hitler les arreglaba el cuarto baño y la cocina. Que también es mala suerte nacer con corona y que lo primero que veas sea un avestruz en vez del mayordomo de Ferrero Rocher. La madre de Irene estaba mu agobiá porque no hacía carrera con la chica. Sus otros dos hijos mayores mostraban más ambición, el Rey Constantino II de Grecia y la Reina Sofía de España, pero Irene se llevaba todo el día rescatando gatitos. Nuestra protagonista se interesó pronto por el piano, la arqueología y los OVNIs. Mientras su hermana Sofía aguantaba el tipo y los desplantes del campechano, Irene se dedicaba a mirar al cielo por si venían a buscarla los marcianos y se libraba de ir a la comunión de la sobrina. Se dice que sabía tanto de arqueología que cuando veía a algunos de sus parientes en las cenas de gala, no sabía si saludarlos o datarlos con carbono 14. En los años 60 se instaló en Zarzuela con una maleta y una sonrisa, y allí se quedó medio siglo. Con lo que se ahorró en hipoteca, la mujer montó Mundo en Armonía, una ONG para ayudar a todo el que sufriera, incluidos los animales. Era tan buena que se hizo vegetariana radical; decía que no comía nada que tuviera ojos, por eso en su nevera solo había lechugas y, sospecho yo, algún bote de tofu con el que podías alicatar un cuarto de baño. A Irene la llamaban la "Tía Pecu" (solterona en griego). Tenía dinero pa comprarse una peluquería pero ella prefería ir con su pelito corto y sus túnicas de la India, que lo mismo le servían para una recepción con el Papa que para hacerse una limpieza de aura en la casa de Nacho Vidal. En la década de los 80, mientras España se modernizaba a base de hombreras y movida, Irene seguía a lo suyo: el yoga, la meditación y el piano. Dicen que tocaba tan bien que relajaba hasta a Pocholo cuando iba de visita a la Zarzuela, cosa que venía estupendamente cuando el ambiente en casa se ponía más tenso que la cara de doña Sofía cuando se montaba en la furgoneta de JuanCal´lo. Irene nunca se casó. Ni un novio, ni un desliz, ni un "aquí te pillo, aquí te mato", ni una Corina Larsen. Ella decía que estaba muy bien sola, y viendo el panorama de los matrimonios de sus hermanos, la mujer no era mística, era vidente. Decidió que para aguantar a un rey, mejor se quedaba con sus cuencos tibetanos, que al menos si los golpeas, suena musiquita. Aquí Irene ya tenía el pelo como un matojo rodante del desierto, los dientes que se empujaban más que en la boda de Lolita y los deos amarillitos de aliña el tofu con curry. Durante sus últimos años, la pobre Irene empezó a tener la memoria un poco "en modo avión". Se le olvidaban las cosas, pero como siempre había vivido en un mundo de energías y dimensiones paralelas, a lo mejor es que simplemente se estaba mudando definitivamente a Raticulín. Desgraciadamente, el 15 de enero de 2026, con 83 años, Irene decidió que ya había aguantado bastantes recepciones oficiales y se fue en un platillo volante que la recogió en el Palmar de Troya, dejándole a la Reina Sofía el mando a distancia aunque ustedes siempre podrán recordarla cuando escuchen unos cuencos tibetanos o .conozcan a alguien que siempre vaya en “modo avión”.
