Project near Beacon border faces opposition A Beacon developer proposing to build a self-storage facility on land between Interstate 84 and Van Ness Road has finalized its responses to concerns from city and Fishkill residents about aesthetics, traffic and safety. In an environmental-impact statement submitted on April 10 to the Fishkill Planning Board, 1292 Route 9D LLC said its two story, 26,000-square-foot facility would be a low-visibility, low-traffic project and not "change or diminish" the character of the area or quality of life for people living south of the property, which sits across 9D from the Southern Dutchess Country Club. The 30-foot-high structure would be set back 200 feet, or twice the required distance, from the highway and contain 333 self-storage units (ranging from 24 to 240 square feet), 26 parking spaces and a loading area. The developer, based at 268 Main St. in Beacon, estimates that 37 vehicles (including two trucks) will enter the facility on weekdays and 42 (three trucks) on Saturdays. The vehicles must use a driveway just north of Van Ness Road and can only enter from northbound 9D and turn right when exiting. That "right in/right out" requirement by the state Department of Transportation means southbound drivers visiting the facility will have to go past it and use one of Beacon's residential streets to turn around. In comments submitted in October, Mayor Lee Kyriacou said the use of residential streets for through traffic is "inconsistent with best practice" and would harm the community character of Dutchess Terrace, Rock Hill Road and Verplanck Avenue. To avoid having to continue south to turn around, some drivers may attempt illegal left turns or dangerous U-turns, he said. Fishkill residents living on streets north of Interstate 84, such as Dogwood Lane and Chiappardi Place, expressed concern that drivers exiting onto northbound 9D will use their streets as a turnaround to go south. To prevent visitors from using those streets, 1292 Route 9D LLC said it would require the facility's operator to post online directions for entering and exiting, specifying routes that do not require use of the local streets. The developer also said it would petition GPS providers to dictate routes that avoid residential streets. Because the property is in Fishkill's restricted-business zone, where self-storage facilities are not allowed, the developer needs a special permit from the Planning Board in addition to site-plan approval. Granting a special permit requires a finding from the board, with input from the building inspector, that a project "is substantially similar" to other uses in the district and "consistent with the stated purposes of the district." According to 1292 Route 9D LLC, its project "is consistent with the surrounding land uses and the built environment" because it will generate "minimal traffic, noise and air emissions" and be screened from the view of neighbors. At the board's urging, 1292 Route 9D LLC assessed two alternative projects - a residence and a hotel. It concluded that a hotel would generate more traffic than the storage facility and require more tree clearing and parking spaces. A single-family home would not be "economically viable," according to the developer. Liz Axelson, a senior planner with Clark Patterson Lee and the Planning Board's consultant, said in October that a restaurant, small hotel or bed-and-breakfast would be more appropriate. "The assertion that the proposed self-storage would complement any of the nearby uses is not well supported, in my opinion," she said. According to Clark Patterson Lee, 11 self-storage facilities exist within 5 miles of the proposed site. The Fishkill Town Board in August 2023 approved a one-year moratorium on approvals for self-storage, citing concerns from residents about a flood of applications.
The Minnesota Senate has passed a bill providing some benefits to Hmong and Lao veterans who helped the U.S. military during the Vietnam War. In the 1960s and early ‘70s, the CIA recruited tens of thousands of Hmong people in an operation known as the Secret War. Many of those recruits lost their lives. Others fled their home country when the war ended 50 years ago, eventually moving to states like Minnesota. The bill still needs to be passed by the Minnesota House to become law. DFL Sen. Susan Pha, DFL-Brooklyn Park, is a co-author of the bill and joined Minnesota Now to talk about the impact it may have. This story was first reported by Sahan Journal.

The order to change the venue of Bryan Kohberger's trial stems from concerns about ensuring a fair trial. Kohberger, accused of killing four University of Idaho students, had become the focus of intense media attention, particularly in Latah County, where the murders occurred. The defense argued that this level of public exposure could taint the jury pool and hinder the possibility of a fair and impartial trial. The court, considering these arguments, agreed that moving the trial to a different county would mitigate these concerns. The new location is expected to have less pre-trial publicity, allowing for a more neutral jury selection process. It was a complex and ultimately failed process in achieving full equality for Black Americans due to resistance from white Southerners, the rise of discriminatory laws (like Jim Crow), and a lack of sustained federal support. Today's sermon explores the profound and often hidden origins of Easter, dissecting the customs and symbols that have evolved over centuries. With insightful references to biblical scriptures, the speaker emphasizes the importance of understanding and aligning tradition with the core Gospel message. From the Apostle Paul's prayers to early Christian celebrations, this sermon invites listeners to reflect on their relationship with God and the influence of ancient pagan practices on modern Christian rituals. As the sermon progresses, it delves into historical transitions, notably the Roman Empire's impact on religious observances, and calls to question the blending of Christianity with pagan traditions. This heartfelt message encourages believers to seek truth and authenticity in their faith, urging a return to scriptural foundations amidst contemporary challenges. With Pastor Quincy Williams Origins of Easter Ephesians 4:17-19 Main Point: Do not worship the Lord God the way pagans worship their gods. Live above what the world is! Stand tall, Be Strong in Christ Jesus our foundation. Before Christ -God warns Israel not to worship the way of the pagans or to worship their gods. “ 31 You must not worship the Lord your God in their way, because in worshiping their gods, they do all kinds of detestable things the Lord hates. They even burn their sons and daughters in the fire as sacrifices to their gods. 32 See that you do all I command you; do not add to it or take away from it.” (Deuteronomy 12:31-32) -Throughout all the Old Testament the Israelites do not heed God nor His prophets' warnings. “Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord. They served the Baals and the Ashtoreths” (Judges 10:6) -It becomes a very redundant pattern of disobedience and repentance. “The nation that turns from God will always turn to other gods. The reason is simple: when God is removed, the need to worship Him remains” Jonathan Cahn After Christ's resurrection The Early Church -It wasn't until after Jesus' resurrection that He appeared to His disciples and instructs them to “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” The disciples went out proclaiming the good news and baptizing those that believed. -The early Christians emphasize the Passover Lamb and Christ's crucifixion. They celebrated the Passover festival and the Day of the Resurrection which was known as the Day of the First Fruits Roman Empire -Persecuted Christians, they were viewed as a threat to established order. Emperor Constantine's conversion to Christianity 312 AD. Granting religious freedom to all in 313 AD. -In an attempt to push the expansion of Christianity, Constantine practiced incorporating pagan festivals into Christianity. To make it more acceptable and familiar to heathen worshippers. -The Council of Nicaea 325AD addresses theological disputes within the Christian Church and to decide on a unified doctrine. Syncretism-practice of combining different beliefs. It involves merging or assimilating different religious beliefs. -All ancient pagan religions and the occult practiced today stems from Babylon. The first one world religion. “It's interesting to note how often our Church has availed herself of practices which were in common use among Pagans. Thus, it is true, in a certain sense that some Catholic rites of Ceremonies are a reproduction of those of pagan creeds; But they are the taking of What was best from Paganism, the Keeping of symbolical practices which express the religious instinct Common to all races and times." John F. Sullivan Guide for the Gentiles and Jews (Acts 15:28-29) (1 Corinthians 10:31-33) 6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. 8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces[a] of this world rather than on Christ. (Colossians 2:6-8) -Our celebrating of Christ's resurrection and conquering of death is not meant to be once a year! Traditions- a long-established custom or belief that has been passed on from one generation to another. “One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind.” (Romans 14:5) Be a great witness to the transformative power of the Holy Spirit! April 4, 2025Today's Reading: Mark 13:24-37Daily Lectionary: Genesis 47:1-31; Genesis 48:1-49:28; Mark 13:24-37[Jesus said,]“From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that he is near, at the very gates. Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. (Mark 13:28-31)In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.During Holy Week, Jesus foretold what the end of time would be like. Looking around, He mentioned the budding of the trees and the emerging leaves. If you look around you, you see that, too. Jesus wants springtime to remind you that Jesus and His return are near. He is coming again. That seems like a strange message just a few weeks before Easter. Usually, we think about the end of the world in the fall and winter as the days grow short and the darkness lengthens. Here, Jesus mentions it with new life and restoration and the plants growing again. The Last Day is, after all, a continuation of Easter and a celebration of new life.Wait, you haven't thought about the end of the world as a fulfillment of Easter and new life before? That's fair. But do it now. Easter is a spring festival because Passover originally happened in the spring and was observed after that in the spring. As the leaves start to bud on the trees and flowers grow and people start to plant their gardens, reflect that this new growing season points ahead to the “new season” of God's restoration when the current heavens and earth are replaced with the perfected, restored heavens and earth. In a couple of weeks, look at the Easter lilies and think, “Not only is it springtime, but Jesus' resurrection is preparing me for eternal life!” As Jesus prepares you for Easter, He also prepares you for His return in glory when the Tree of Life will bear fruit every month (Revelation 22:1-2), and all things will be new and perfect. Springtime is great, but the eternal life of resurrection with God is even better! Look forward to that day of new life that began when Jesus rose from the grave to new life at Easter. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.Herald, sound the note of triumph; Christ has come to share our life, Bringing God's own love and power, Granting vict'ry in our strife. Sound the trumpet! In the wake of President Trump's executive order on DEI, debates in America have renewed a conversation around DEI in this country. And while the baseline value of greater inclusion is one that many of us share, some DEI programs have proven controversial. Our guest on this bonus episode is the author of a recent report that dives into DEI practices in Canadian federal granting agencies — and asks if they impede political and ideological neutrality and research excellence. Dave Snow is an associate professor of political science at the University of Guelph. He's also a senior fellow at the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, and the author of a new MLI report, “Promoting excellence … or activism? Equity, diversity, and inclusion at Canada's federal granting agencies.” You can find Tara Henley on Twitter at @TaraRHenley, and on Substack at tarahenley.substack.com
After years of hardship and struggle, the purpose of Joseph's trials is finally revealed. Though Joseph's brothers intended to do him harm, God was positioning Joseph to bring about a great deliverance for a people in peril of starvation. As Joseph interacts with his brothers, extends grace, preserves lives, and provides food to the famished, he paints for us a picture of Christ. Join us for session eleven as we see how we, too, are called to represent Christ to a lost and dying world in need of deliverance.Verses Used:Genesis 45:3Genesis 45:4 & 15Ephesians 1:7-8Genesis 45:5-8Hebrews 12:2Genesis 45:11 & 20John 6:48-51Discussion Questions:*What was your main takeaway from today's message?*When Joseph reveals himself to his brothers, they are dismayed to find him alive and ruling Egypt. What does he tell them in Genesis 45:5-8? How does this demonstrate his faith in God and his sovereign plan? What can we learn from his perspective?*In Scripture there are several characters who foreshadow what Christ would do. Joseph is one of them. In what way does he serve as an example of: -Granting mercy when judgment was deserved? -Preserving life when death was destined? -Satisfying an incessant hunger?*As Joseph was a representative of Christ, we too, are called to be representatives of Christ. February 14, 2025 Today's Reading: John 5:1-18Daily Lectionary: Job 10:1-22; John 5:1-18When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be healed?” The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, and while I am going another steps down before me.” Jesus said to him, “Get up, take up your bed, and walk.” And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked. (John 5:6–9)In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. There is a lot going on here. If you keep reading, you see that this healing took place on the Sabbath, which led to a huge discussion a bit later. What is the nature of the day of rest? What is the nature of this healing? Can something so strange really be done with God's approval on a holy day?We can easily look back and say that of course it was good and right for Jesus to do this. But, in the moment, it was a strange thing for faithful Jews to try and understand. How could someone sent by God violate God's own law about working on the Sabbath? But look closely at what Jesus both says and does. There is much more happening here than ‘just' a healing miracle. He speaks words of creation and resurrection. He asks if the man wishes to become “whole.” He tells him to “rise” and walk. And all of this happens near water. What Jesus essentially does is raise this man from the dead and restore him fully to the people of God. This is why the authorities were so angry; to them, Jesus, who they saw as only a man, had done something with evil intent to destroy God's holy law because there was no way God would allow this.On the other hand, the man healed saw the whole promise of God fulfilled in Jesus's words and work for him. Only God could work such a miraculous thing, so of course, Jesus was from God. Creation came forth from water, and our rebirth and resurrection is done through Baptism, but Jesus' words also remind you that “Let there be” came even before that. Here again is the promise that Jesus is indeed God in the flesh, that everything he does is for the love and salvation of his people. It may not always make sense, and it may sometimes be hard to understand, but everything Jesus does, even if it upsets the religious authorities, is a promise that his work is for you.In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.Ev'ry wound that pains or grieves me By your wounds, Lord, is made whole; When I'm faint, Your cross revives me, Granting new life to my soul. Yes, Your comfort renders sweet Ev'ry bitter cup I meet; For Your all atoning passion Has procured my soul's salvation. (LSB 421:4)-Rev. From the Gospel acclamation: "A great prophet has arisen in our midst and God has visited his people." A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark (today's readings) As he was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed pleaded to remain with him. But Jesus would not permit him but told him instead, “Go home to your family and announce to them all that the Lord in his pity has done for you.” Following the calming of a storm at sea, Jesus and the disciples arrive at the region of Gerasenes and encounter a man possessed by demons. Living among the tombs and restrained by chains and shackles he smashed, the demon-possessed man meets Jesus at the shore. Night and day, Mark tells us, the man cried out and bruised himself with stones. Recognizing Jesus by name, the demons identifying themselves as Legion, beg Jesus not to torment them. Granting their request, Jesus sends the demons into a nearby herd of pigs, which immediately rush down a steep bank into the sea. The man returns to his right mind, and the witnesses and nearby townspeople beg the man to leave, who first attempts to go with Jesus and then travels to the Decapolis to proclaim what Jesus has done for him. The people are amazed, and word of Jesus begins to spread. Sometimes life would have us living among tombs, possessed by inner demons. If Jesus drove out Legion, he can drive out any of those who name themselves or any who dwell in us in anonymity. "Let your hearts take comfort, all who hope in the Lord." God, stay beside me this moment and throughout the day as I meditate on the power of Jesus Christ your Son to name and cast out any evil within me. Thanks be to you, Lord, for the gifts of baptism and reconciliation and the true food and true drink of the Eucharist. Jesus commanded the possessed man to do one thing. Let me open my heart in gratitude to his command and find joy in it: “Go home to your family and announce to them all that the Lord in his pity has done for you.” Help me remember your compassion, Lord, as I place my trust in you. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Daily Halacha Podcast - Daily Halacha By Rabbi Eli J. Mansour
A Zimun is recited before Birkat Hamazon when three people ate a meal together. According to the Shulhan Aruch, even a minor – who has not yet reached the age of Bar Misva – can count as the third person for a Zimun, provided that he is capable of reciting Birkat Hamazon and understands to whom he recites the Beracha. Children who have reached the age of nine years are generally assumed to have reached this point. Ashkenazim have the custom not to count boys to a Zimun before they reach the age of Bar Misva. The Ben Ish Hai (Rabbi Yosef Haim of Baghdad, 1833-1909), however, writes that the practice in Baghdad followed the Shulhan Aruch's view, allowing minors to count toward a Zimun, and this is indeed the Halacha for Sepharadim. Thus, once a child reaches this point in his educational development, he may join two adults in forming a Zimun. Likewise, if nine men are present, he may count as the tenth person to allow the group to recite Hashem's Name ("Elokenu") in the Zimun. A woman cannot join with two men to form a Zimun, as this would violate proper standards of modesty. However, if three or more women eat by themselves, then, according to some opinions, they are required to recite a Zimun, while others maintain that this is optional. The Ben Ish Hai concludes that it is proper for women in such a case to recite a Zimun (listen to audio recording for precise citation). Women do not, however, recite a Zimun with Hashem's Name ("Elokenu"), even if ten or even one hundred women eat together. If women eat a meal where three or more men are present, the women should not recite Birkat Hamazon before the men. They must instead wait until the men recite Birkat Hamazon so that they can participate in the Zimun. Even though they do not count toward the Zimun, they nevertheless bear the obligation to recite the Zimun together with the men. It is proper for a host to ask his guest to lead the Zimun. If one of his guests is a Kohen, then that guest take precedence over others in leading the Zimun. A Torah scholar takes precedence over a Kohen, and, of course, a Torah scholar who is a Kohen takes precedence over other Torah scholars. If a Torah scholar who is not a Kohen leads the Zimun in the presence of Kohanim, he should say, "Bireshut Ha'kohanim," asking permission from the Kohanim to lead the Zimun. Some people offer a Levi precedence over others when no Kohanim are present. This is not, however, the prevalent practice, and one is not required to grant a Levi precedence over a Yisrael in leading the Zimun. Summary: The custom of the Sepharadim is to allow a boy to join with two adults to form a Zimun, provided that the boy is old enough to recite Birkat Hamazon and to understand the concept of Birkat Hamazon. (This is generally assumed to be the case once a child reaches the age of nine.) Women do not join with two men to form a Zimun, but three women who eat a meal together should make a Zimun. If women eat together with three or more men, they should not recite Birkat Hamazon until they recite the Zimun together with the men. A guest should recite a Zimun, and a Kohen takes precedence over others, with the exception of Torah scholars, who take precedence over Kohanim.
The order does not change the charges or the trial's timeline but focuses solely on ensuring that the judicial process remains unbiased and fair.(commercial at 9:33)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:090624-Order-Granting-Defendants-Motion-Change-Venue.pdf

From ancient times, Helgafell has been steeped in mystery and supernatural lore. Early settlers in the area believed this hill was more than just a geographical feature—it was a place of profound spiritual power. One of the first settlers, Þórólfur, held the hill in such high regard that he declared no one could even glance at it without first cleansing themselves. Helgafell was also a sanctuary, a safe haven where no person or animal could be harmed. Þórólfur and his sons were so devoted to this sacred spot that they believed their spirits would be taken into the mountain upon their deaths. Want more Icelandic folklore stories? This episode is part of my Folklore Friday series where I am sharing an Icelandic folklore story every Friday in 2024. Click Here for More Icelandic Folklore A Sacred Hill Steeped in Lore From ancient times, Helgafell (which translates to "Sacred Hill") has been steeped in mystery and supernatural lore. From Pagan Worship to Christian Reverence Before Iceland converted to Christianity, the people who revered Helgafell were pagans who worshiped the Norse gods like Þór (Thor) and Óðinn (Odin). Interestingly, the hill's sacred status endured even after Christianity became the dominant religion.Monks eventually built a small chapel on Helgafell, and though it's no longer standing, you can still see the faint remnants of its stone foundation today. The hill's spiritual significance seems to transcend belief systems, making it a symbol of both ancient traditions and new religious practices. The Mystical Ritual of the Three Wishes One of the most fascinating traditions tied to Helgafell is the ritual of the three wishes. For those curious to try their luck, here's how it works: Start your journey at the grave of Guðrún Ósvífrsdóttir, a notable figure from Icelandic sagas, located nearby. As you climb the hill, you must remain completely silent—no words, no turning back.Once you reach the top, stand by the old chapel ruins, face east, and make three heartfelt wishes. But there's a catch! Your wishes must come from a place of pure intentions—they can't harm anyone, and you can't tell anyone what you wished for. Over the centuries, many have claimed success with this tradition, swearing by the power of Helgafell to grant their desires. A Must-Visit Spot in the Snæfellsnes Peninsula If you ever find yourself in the northern part of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, consider visiting Helgafell. Whether or not you believe in its mystical power, the experience is sure to leave you with a sense of awe and connection to Iceland's rich folklore. From its ancient Norse roots to its enduring Christian connections, Helgafell offers visitors a chance to walk in the footsteps of history, tradition, and spirituality—all while taking in the breathtaking beauty of the Icelandic landscape. Random Fact of the Episode My personal experience with climbing Helgafell was so much fun. There were even two farm dogs from nearby that followed me up the mountain. They were also silent and great companions. I honestly could not have asked for a better and more fun time hiking that mountain.
