It's safe to say most of us struggle with truly being ourselves, without having to create a more polished version for people to see.At the heart of it is often a fear that we will be perceived wrong, disappoint people, be judged, or that people wouldn't like what they see if they really knew what we were like. But what if the parts of us that we feel like hiding are actually our biggest strengths and the most authentic opportunity for people to connect with us?This 5MIN FRONTRUNNERS episode will give you some super quick and super valuable insight into why you should embrace what makes you unique, and more importantly, SHARE who you are with the world. For more snack-sized episodes, visit Frontrunners.life/5MINFR
Are you multi-passionate but have a hard time choosing which ONE to pursue? You might be like I was and think that you had to pick just one in order to be successful. This led to me feeling paralyzed with indecision thinking, “If I only knew which ONE was the right one, then I’d give it my all!” But there’s a different way: Create your own path. I discovered that if there wasn’t a precedent for a career that captured all of the things that I’m passionate about, then I could create it myself! That’s how Frontrunners was born. It is the combination of everything I find fulfilling, merged into a brand new business. So how do you do this for yourself? How do you transition from doing just one thing for a long time into forging brand new multi-passionate business? In this episode, I share my story of transitioning from being a designer and consultant into launching Frontrunners up until now, and the thought process that helped me take the leap. This will provide you with some valuable insight into what it might look like to start your own business from scratch and blaze a new trail that puts you on course toward your most fulfilling life. Listen in and leave a review or comment telling me about what you have always wanted to do!
"I sold my house and everything in it."Can you learn to be comfortable (and even excited) in the most uncomfortable circumstances? — Jenny Donnelly is doing just that. After building a multimillion-dollar business for the last 20 years, Jenny and her husband Bob experienced a massive shift that required them to start over from scratch. Following that, instead of choosing an option that would be predictable and comfortable, they decided to take a BOLD leap that involved selling their dream home and everything in it, the seemingly-impossible way they were able to buy a 50-acre retreat center, and then moving into and renovating the center with 8 other families from across the country. In this episode, Jenny redefines what it means to be in your comfort zone and challenges our assumption that we need to be “safe” in order to succeed. Having everything you could want, while great, isn’t what makes you feel alive; it’s about finding a purpose and living on the edge of your capacity. There are SO many nuggets of wisdom and insight you can draw for your own journey from jenny’s story. You’ll finish feeling inspired, encouraged, and fired up to never settle for anything less than a life on the edge that makes you excited to wake up every day and say, “What’s next!?" Sometimes you don’t win. Sometimes you’ve got to do whatever it takes to get by. Sometimes you have to paint concrete. Those times it feels like your current circumstances are so far removed from where you want to be that you can’t even see the connection. In this episode, I talk about a time when I had to paint concrete in order to pay the bills and support my family.I had no work, a head full of self-doubt, and I felt like a failure. It was a really humbling time, but out of that experience came the realization that difficult seasons are inevitable, what matters is the growth we choose to do while we’re there. If you’re going through something challenging right now, or if you’ve been through something that felt like it might break you, this episode is for you.If you’ve been beaten down by circumstances but you just freaking KNOW that there’s more for you in life, this is for you.If you’re trying to find MEANING in your PAIN, this is for you. Here are the SHOW NOTES to check out all the links in this episode!–––––Welcome trailblazer, you don't have to run alone anymore. Sometimes learning something new can be frustrating. Whether it’s new software, an instrument, a creative tool, or a new profession, there’s a gap between where you are right now and the expectation in your head of how good you’re supposed to be. It’s especially hard if you’re trying to build your influence and credibility. So how do you lead people when you still have SO MUCH to learn? Become a “Student Teacher”. It’s possible to dedicate yourself to continual personal growth while still leading, influencing and teaching others. And there’s no better person to share about this than Diane Gibbs. As both a professor of design as well as someone who is constantly chasing new knowledge, she’s the perfect person to shed light on how you can walk this out in your own life and career. If you’re a busy person, chances are that you have no shortage of things to do. But there is one thing you definitely don’t have enough of: TIME. The other thing you seem to always run out of is your mental capacity. That’s why your brain gets frazzled or turns to goo before the day is over. Not fun. Between the many different kinds of commitments you might have: work, side hustle, passion project, family, social life, eating, planning… oh, and sleep is pretty important too… it can feel overwhelming, to say the least. So how do you, as a driven and dedicated business owner, stay productive and organized when you’ve got a full plate? You need systems and structures that can provide you a better opportunity to do your best work. There are many different tips and tricks and tools you have available to you, and in this episode, I share some of the techniques that have helped me the best over the past 14 years as a designer and business owner. I used to think that I didn’t need anybody. I thought if I was good enough, skilled enough, talented enough, that people would come to me. To me, “Networking” was a dirty word that brought up thoughts of stale phony meetings with bad coffee and dry snacks, where you were supposed to trade business cards with people you hardly knew (or liked). That line of thinking, combined with my self-imposed pressure to have it all together and appear perfect, left me feeling isolated and hurting in my business. And it couldn’t have been further from the truth. We NEED people in our lives. Friends. Peers. Mentors. Community. It’s the only way to succeed and actually enjoy the journey too. In this episode, I dive into the reality that nobody is self-made, where true influence comes from, and how your insecurities and fears can be your greatest tools for winning people over. Every one of us has retold a crazy story that we heard someone else experience. One of those stories that are too ridiculous, too funny, or too unfortunate not to share. But what would it be like if you got those people to sit down and share the stories first-hand, straight from the source, and cut out the middle man? That’s the question that led Jeremy Porth to start his podcast A Legendary Saga, where he interviews people from all backgrounds and has them share their most unbelievable stories. From nearly drowning on a raft, to crazy destructive parties, to getting lost in the jungle during a monsoon in Sumatra, his guests’ stories are insane… and you wouldn’t even believe it unless they told you themselves because they’re all just regular people like you and me. At the deepest level, Jeremy has a passion for the magic of imagination and entertainment, and he believes that everyone is valuable and has a story to tell. And in the process, his podcast ends up being a tool to show us all that our lives aren’t so boring as we might initially think. Join us in this episode to hear Jeremy share a story of his own, as well as how he launched his podcast from scratch, and the value of a hard work ethic in pursuing something you love. I had the pleasure of being the first ever guest on The Rational Enquirer podcast, hosted by my good friend Joseph "Shribs" Schreiber. Come hang out with us as we talk about STEP 0, Harry Potter movies, our definition of success, balancing epic fantasy novels with personal development books, and so much more! Here’s what Joseph had to say:This first RQ Podcast (and every one after) is a direct result of Nathanael Clanton. Thus, it was fitting to have him on the very first episode of RQ. Nathanael wrote a book called STEP 0 about guiding creative entrepreneurs through the starting process of accomplishing their goals; and to say that both the book and him have had an impact on me would be an understatement.
