It's been a crazy ride following and requesting receipts from Hillsborough County Public Schools. The 100M deficit has resulted in additional cuts and obstacles for our educators. It's time to release the digital filing cabinet. It's all coming out with my wig and sage. Here's the link to the Digital Filing Cabinet: https://teachingfortheculture.com/receipts

In this episode, I had the pleasure to interview Tabitha D. James. Tabitha D. James is an award winning millennial business strategist, two-time author and global speaker who has helped numerous businesses, entrepreneurs, and nonprofits unleash their greatness! Tabitha just released her new book Dear Black Girl: Timeless Gems for Brown Girls Bound to Win.Timeless Gems for Brown Girls Bound to Win is a series of colloquialisms, affirmations and statements utilized by author Tabitha D. James to center excellence in service and abundant thinking. This resource was developed with many amazing people in mind — the thousands of black girls and women she has encountered along her educational, professional and personal journey. Those who have poured into her, those she has poured into and most importantly those who often struggle to see the true value in being who you are while striving to reach goals and WIN!You can support Tabitha by visiting her online: https://www.tabithadjames.com/#TeachingForTheCulture

School board members are individuals elected by their community to serve as representatives of the public. As champions for the community, school board members work to make sure the needs and desires of the public are brought to life by successfully carrying out their responsibilities. There are five major school board member responsibilities. These duties are vital to the work and performance of the local school district.Establish the vision and goals for the school district.Be aware of policies, laws, and regulations that may impact the work of the district; and implement policies that help improve the work of the district and its schools.School board member responsibilities to hire and evaluate the district’s superintendent.Adopt and maintain an annual budget that is aligned with the vision of the local school district.Serve as leaders and representatives of the community and as advocates for students and the school district. When making your selections on November 3rd, be intentional! Our children deserve the best candidate that operates with accountability, transparency, and integrity.
Some highlights in this week's episode:On Tuesday, the MERV13 Air filters were approved. I’m bringing this up because I need you to follow the money and the series of events.Receipt A: https://www2.sdhc.k12.fl.us/BoardAgenda/Shared/Agenda_Print_ver2019.php?BD_MTG_ID=1010I’m really unclear about how this money is being allocated especially with all these different prices given to the public. In the article, a spokesperson told Bay News 9 that the update would cost $690,000. That’s a $190,000 difference! Receipt B: https://www.baynews9.com/fl/tampa/news/2020/08/05/hillsborough-schools-to-update-air-filters-to-help-combat-coronavirusThe district has purchased toxic chemicals that need to be recalled. Parents, please check your child's cellphone. Students who had been victimized by their peers at school had the most negative reactions to receiving fewer “likes” and they can attribute this lack of “likes” to flaws in their own character. A donation to Miami-Dade superintendent Carvalho’s foundation is under investigation. The Office of the Inspector General is reviewing the transfer of approximately $1.57 million dollars from K12, a virtual instruction provider, to the Foundation for New Education Initiatives, Inc. This is the same K12 platform that crashed and burned after a student conducted a DDoS attack on the system.https://www.local10.com/news/local/2020/09/17/donation-to-miami-dade-superintendent-carvalhos-foundation-under-investigation/The superintendent in Palm Beach is under fire as well. Since our children like to participate in these dangerous challenges on TikTok.. I'm tasking everyone to encourage children to participate in the #ChangeTheFrequencyChallenge Here's how the challenge works: For 21 days, children under the age of 18 can not watch or listen to: • Porn• Gang affiliated content & social media pages• Songs with lyrics containing crimes that harm other humans.• Video games that desensitize harming other humans. All games involving guns and committing crimes.• YouTube beefs & fights videosIn this challenge, set the Screen Time to 4.5 hours. Studies show children spend 7-9+ hours in front of a screen. What's developing your children on their screen? Here's the link to the study: https://www.cnn.com/2019/10/29/health/common-sense-kids-media-use-report-wellness/index.html#:~:text=(CNN)%20US%20teens%20spend%20an,screens%20for%20school%20and%20homeworkDuring this challenge, all devices must be collected at night and protected with adult supervision. It's a lot of things being exposed to children with technology right at their fingertips. If you are not checking their cellphone, you are placing them in danger. Our children need to detox during this pandemic. We went from the Tide Pod Challenge to the Benadryl Challenge. The 21 Day Detox could pull some of our children out of depression and encourage the necessary conversations needed at home! CHECK THE PHONE PLEASEEEEEE! Some highlights in this week's episode:The ACLU released a new report titled: "The Cost of School Policing"The report urges the legislature to repeal the mandate that requires a security presence at every school and recommends steps to:Set minimum requirements for training of police in schools.Approve a minimum age for arrest and limitations on the use of force, including tasers and pepper spray, against children.Hire counselors, social workers, and school psychologists in adequate numbers to prevent unnecessary referrals to law enforcement.Adopt student codes of conduct with consequences clearly outlined for specified behavior that limit the involvement of law enforcement to those situations posing immediate safety risks.Alcohol Wipes Investigation in Hillsborough CountyI’ve been going back and forth about the wipes for the safety of the children and employees in Hillsborough County. I was alerted about the issue and we started to investigate.I’m going to post the link to the Google Drive folder with all the wipes invoices that were submitted to me from the district. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/165Y10WwL_ejOPp-HmxVawy9odyvD7hAl?usp=sharingNow when they provided me the invoices, they also issued a statement:"Regarding your question about the disinfecting wipes, the district consulted with infectious disease experts as well as verified information on the EPA website that our disinfecting wipes meet all requirements to combat the COVID-19 virus. The disinfecting wipes we have purchased are listed on the EPA website and registered as a product that kills SARS-CoV-2."I've requested the receipts to substantiate this claim. Simple Hygiene Foaming Hand Sanitizer Investigation in Hillsborough County:If you missed the video covering this situation, here's the link: https://youtu.be/x39h665o-fo. My question still remains… what testing did Fuller do to eliminate the reproductive hazard and why didn’t the district notify staff of this? Why did the district not tell the truth? The foaming hand sanitizer is safe with air conditioning but what will happen when they shut the air off this weekend. If you would love to support the mission, please donate to my Patreon. #TFTC: Episode #7: Our Children Deserve A Seat At The Table by Bianca Goolsby, MBA
Parents, we need to have a talk. Sometimes the teachers do everything they can and the administrators are the problem.
#TFTC: Episode #5: Bullying, Fights, Oh My! Solutions to Address the Increasing School Violence by Bianca Goolsby, MBA
Let's chat about school bus safety for a quick moment! Two people reached out to me THIS WEEK about issues with their child's school bus. It's sad to hear parents not being able to locate their kids! In one case, a female student was dropped home by two male employees without parental consent. What the BUS? Did you know that Hillsborough County Public School uses Uber to take children home who have disabilities? We must have a serious talk about these school buses. The conditions that students travel to school has a direct impact on motivation and productiveness in the classroom. What are your thoughts?
