Ansley Hutchinson, Tess Menzies, and Gabe Sanchez from Boredwalk's content team run through recent current events in the U.S. and what normal citizens can do to help stave off the encroaching fascist authoritarianism of the Trump regime. It's a great primer and source of encouragement for resisting that ANYONE can engage in.  You don't need to be a full-time activist, you don't need to come up with creative and witty protest signs — these are EASY things you can do in your daily life if you are concerned about racial profiling, imprisonment and/or deportation without due process, and rolling back protections for the bodily autonomy and electoral agency of women, people of color, LGBTQIA+ folks, etc. Sometimes it's as easy as just paying attention. Yeah, it's a downer, but so is watching your favorite sports team lose or your favorite reality show twit getting voted off Idiot Island. Maybe take one night off from the trivial brainrot each week and stay informed by consuming news from legit media outlets with contrasting viewpoints to get a balanced take on what is going on, because this is what will help improve the economy and protect your friends and neighbors and family members from being wrongfully accused, jailed, or attacked by the government and the brainwashed citizens who think that stuff is OK. After a nice palate cleanser courtesy of customer CP's review of their copy of our 90s activity book Whatever!, our intrepid co-hosts send the episode out by sharing their own answers to questions from Boredwalk's Delve Deck conversation card sets! They share their thoughts on: things they wished they had known sooner, the best things that have ever been said to them, and the foods they could eat every day without getting tired of them. Tess, Ansley, and Gabe weigh in on the cognitive dissonance of evangelical MAGA's weird (and blasphemous) idolatry of their felonious orange demigogue. Kind of makes you wish the book of Revelation was real. Rapture, take us away! They also weigh in on recent bills making their way through (red) state legislatures that are clearly designed to facilitate harming children. Ansley then shouts out patient Boredwalk fans who are willing to engage with dum-dums in our social comments so we don't have to. You da real MVPs! After a nice palate cleanser courtesy of customer Andrew W's review of his new Worse Days Ahead tank top, our intrepid co-hosts send the episode out by sharing their own answers to questions from Boredwalk's Delve Deck conversation card sets! Ansley, Gabe, and Tess from the Boredwalk content team are back, and Ansley uses the latest Chappell Roan controversy to spark an interesting convo about socio-political in-fighting amongst groups that should be busy building coalitions with each other instead of constantly vilifying people they agree with 95% of the time. Great advice! Tess & Gabe do an excellent job of dissecting how this sort of performative virtue signaling and litmus testing alienates and radicalizes people and pushes them into the open arms of hate groups who use kindness as a Trojan horse to grow their ranks. This dovetails with our co-hosts' response to a recent troll comment on one of Boredwalk's social media posts claiming that "content creator" isn't a real job, which is news to all of us, lol. After a nice palate cleanser courtesy of fan Audrey Lucero's positive feedback and customer Kev's review of our Grievance Journal, our intrepid co-hosts send the episode out by sharing their own answers to questions from Boredwalk's Delve Deck conversation card sets! Due to your insatiable appetite for schadenfreude, the leopards are back for a second helping of MAGA faces! Ansley, Gabe, and Tess read and react to more news items of MAGA cultists getting exactly what they voted for last November. Everyone at Boredwalk HQ would much rather trade these snickers in for a functional democracy to replace the overtly racist and lawless authoritarian regime the red-hatted, non-voting, and 3rd-party-voting idiots have saddled the rest of us with, but when life gives you lemons, you gotta make that lemonade, y'know? As before — and still amazingly — many of these members of the Leopards Ate My Face party continue to support Trump's overall agenda and behavior even as they list all the ways his policies have negatively impacted them and their loved ones. Cults, amirite? After wallowing in disgust at MAGA cultists' persistent idiocy, our intrepid co-hosts enjoy a conversational palate cleanser courtesy of our Delve Deck conversation card sets! Play Episode Listen Later Apr 15, 2025 16:04

We're back with another mini-episode! Tess Menzies & Ansley Hutchinson from Boredwalk's content team share some actionable ways that U.S. citizens who are unhappy with the way the new regime is operating can stand up against encroaching fascism. These include: • Voting! Not just every four years during presidential elections, but in local and midterm elections whenever they pop up! None of this "mY vOtE dOeSn'T mAtTeR" nonsense. Live in a deep blue area and think your vote isn't "needed"? WRONG! Run up the score! Make it crystal clear to supporters of "the other candidate(s)" that their ideas and priorities are unpopular.  Live in a deep red area and think there's no way your vote can sway things? WRONG! Make the elected officials who win aware that their constituency isn't monolithic and that you and your likeminded voters expect a seat at the table, regardless of the electoral outcome! • Coalition building! Stop in-fighting and purity testing! Find common ground with the folks you disagree with least and form a coalition with them to tackle the biggest problems that you DO agree on! • Be media literate! Don't get sucked into arguments with bots and human trolls. It saps your energy and makes you feel like the other side is bigger than it is. Every social platform has mute, block, or restrict features. Use them to your advantage. • Talk openly and proudly about your values and how bad policies are directly impacting you and the people you care about. This helps turn the tide as far as approval ratings and gets other people fired up and engaged. Our co-hosts then read and respond to some recent social media comments on Boredwalk's posts, as well as a recent product review from a customer. Things wrap up with Tess, Ansley, and Meredith trading personal anecdotes sparked by questions from our Delve Deck conversation card sets! They share which habits other people have that are annoying from the Venting Edition, and their favorite things on the internet from the Joy Edition. In a rare treat since our return from podcasting hiatus, Boredwalk co-founder Meredith Erin sits in with Tess Menzies & Ansley Hutchinson from the content team to discuss the shockingly unconstitutional disregard of due process the new administration in the U.S. has been engaged in. Meredith breaks down what due process is, describes some of the recent incidents of the federal government infringing on civil liberties of visitors and immigrants here in the U.S. legally, and why that is a threat to every U.S. citizen. We'd be remiss if we just offered problems with no solutions, though! Meredith shares some really easy, low-effort ways to make your voice heard and put pressure on your elected representatives to fight back against this lawlessness. Our co-hosts then read and respond to some recent social media comments on Boredwalk's posts, dissecting what misinformation & disinformation actually looks like in practice. Things wrap up with Tess, Ansley, and Meredith trading personal anecdotes sparked by questions from our Delve Deck conversation card sets! First up: Usha & JD Vance's embarrassing imperialist envoy to Greenland! Secondly: Inflation is up, and consumer confidence is down. So much for "fixing" the "broken" economy on "Day One!" (Note: this was recorded prior to the "Liberation Day" press conference that resulted in a historic stock market meltdown that, as of this writing, is still ongoing.) Finally: Unemployment is up, courtesy of hundreds of thousands of federal workers being abruptly laid off, just in time for tariff-induced inflation! Are we great yet or what?! Our co-hosts then discuss the cultural discourse bubbling up about U.S. citizens emigrating to less embarrassing countries and the practicalities and impracticalities associated with such a major life decision. What snowflakes! Tess also touches on the role that mockery and satire plays in fighting authoritarianism, Gabe dissects the extrajudicial grotesqueries that ICE and the DOJ are engaged in to keep us safe from autism activists & gay makeup artists, and Ansley dives into the distressing difficulties that both full U.S. citizens and legal green card & work visa holders are having coming and going between the U.S. and other countries. No wonder France wants the Statue of Liberty back! It's a full house — or recording studio, anyway — as Gabe has escaped from New York and returned to join Ansley & Tess on the latest episode of the Boredwalk Podcast! Keeping up with the pace of the unrelenting torrent of horrifyingly inhumane, bewilderingly incompetent, and breathtakingly stupid news items emanating from the stygian sludge of the broken commode where sound policy goes to die formerly known as the Oval Office can be tougher than containing a fast break in a lopsided March Madness matchup, but the Boredwalk content team always rises to the occasion! They discuss recent attempts to get a tired MAGA insult legally classified as a mental disorder, the uptick in moderates and liberals arming and learning to defend themselves, embarrassing diplomatic gaffes that further isolate the United States from its historical (and likely to soon be former) geopolitical allies, and the growing list of ways in which the Trump 2.0 administration is failing to follow through on its campaign promises to his own supporters, including stopping inflation, reducing food prices and the cost of living more broadly, jumpstarting the U.S.'s long-dormant manufacturing sector, negotiating peace between Ukraine and Russia, etc. It's all exhausting enough to make you want to cheer the apocalypse on instead of forestalling its arrival, tbh. Our co-hosts then check in on Boredwalk's social comment trolls and enjoy a good eye roll and chuckle at the ignorance and insanity on display in that icky little cesspool before wiping the slate clean with a nice review for one of our cozy hoodies! The team wraps things up with personal stories sparked by questions from our Delve Deck conversation card sets! Gabe is gallivanting around NYC, so Ansley & Tess are holding down the fort this week on the Boredwalk Podcast! The topic du jour is the slightly satisfying schadenfreude Kamala Harris supporters have been enjoying over the last several weeks as Donnie Smoothbrain voters (and their morally bankrupt non-voting brethren) have realized that many of his policies are hurting them directly via higher prices on food, layoffs related to Elon's DOGE cuts, slow and insufficient responses to natural disasters triggered by cuts to FEMA funding and staffing, and tanking stock prices caused by chaotic and untargeted tariffs. It's been a predictable deluge of "but I thought he'd hurt OTHER people, not ME" whining. Amazingly, many of these members of the Leopards Ate My Face party continue to support Trump even as they list all the ways his policies have negatively impacted them. Delusion is a helluva drug! The lack of self-awareness on display is *chef's kiss* delicious. Tess then reads the first customer review of our just-released Delve Deck beach balls, and it is GLOWING. To add insult to economic injury, they react to a recent foul-mouthed email our customer service team received from a person who purchased a counterfeit Boredwalk t-shirt from some obviously shady scam website yet somehow was able to figure out what our email address is. Bruh, our website is literally in the email address. So close, yet still so far! Meredith & Tess revel in Taylor Swift's ruination of the Super Bowl for fragile men! Tess then plots what she is going to do with the preposterous amount of grapefruit her partner Trevor was scammed into purchasing by his ex-coworker's child. Meredith is dealing with the same issue, but with lemons, and instead of an annoying child it is Mother Nature herself doing the scamming by virtue of the lemon tree in her yard. Moving on, Tess reads a nice review from a customer raving about her Lurk Laugh Loathe hoodie. Yay! However, then we get a visit from the land of trolls — always an interesting peek into the psyches of idiots. Tess then reads fan responses to the recent Question of the Day "What do people often wrongly assume about you?" before providing her own answers. That's right, answers plural! Tess contains multitudes! Meredith chimes in with her own. Interestingly, both of their answers deal with their respective heights and the assumptions people make based on their size! They wrap up by trading answers to the Delve Deck questions "where is the most annoying place to go?" and "if you could wave a magic wand and make something more popular, what would you choose?" Meredith & Tess pay tribute to the weekly insect mass grave that keeps appearing in the same spot of our recording studio. This sparks debate on whether the cause is scientific or supernatural in origin. Opinions are split! Tess shares a review of Boredwalk's Good Company guest book, which sparks a discussion about marketing fails. This leads into a fun dissection of recent troll comments — delightful! They then react to fan response to the recent Question of the Day "what is your favorite emotion?" before sharing their own answers. The episode wraps up with a rant from Tess about commercial audition requirements before she and Meredith trade answers to questions from the Delve Deck Venting and Joy Editions: "What ruined an enjoyable hobby for you?" and "what is your favorite memory?" Meredith talks about the conundrum of being a feminist horror fan, and Tess reveals her best concert-going experience ever — and it shockingly was NOT opening night of Taylor Swift's Eras tour! This week Boredwalk co-founder Meredith sat down with Gabe Sanchez from Boredwalk's content team to discuss muddling along in our dystopian hellscape, freshly baked bad behavior in her personal life, and recent positive and negative feedback from customers and internet trolls, respectively.   They then read and react to fan responses to the Question of the Day "what's your 'no good deed goes unpunished' story?" As you can imagine, it led to some truly bonkers stories. Our takeaway? Don't do good deeds!   The episode wraps up with Meredith & Gabe trading answers to the questions "what social stigma do we need to get rid of?" and "what's your favorite thing that someone you love does?" from the Delve Deck Venting and Joy Editions. Meredith and Tess discuss unhinged people who steal other artists' work only to claim THEY are the aggrieved party. It happens way more often than you might think! Next up is a dispatch from the land of trolls, which is never a dull moment! A special twist this week is their professed concern for our souls, which seems both well-meaning but also invasive. This week's Question of the Day was "which song immediately transports you back to a happy time of your life?" Lots of fun answers that run the gamut! They wrap up the episode by trading answers to the questions "what are you too hard on yourself about?" from the Delve Deck: Venting Edition, and "what are you most thankful you learned as a kid?" from the Delve Deck: Joy Edition. Meredith regales Tess with her recounting of the brawl that broke out in her driveway between two grown-ass men over a fender bender last week!  Tess then laments the battery of social obligations she is slogging through following the holidays, Meredith anticipates the arrival of her in-laws, and both of them express exasperation at everyone's generally terrible behavior. They then move on to check in with the social media trolls, who never fail to amaze. In this week's installment of The Week In Trolls, two chaotic and inconsiderate sociopaths try to justify their awful impulses in reaction to some comedy sketches our content team published recently. They are unsuccessful in this endeavor. Next up Meredith & Tess react to fan responses to the Question of the Day "what food do you hate that everyone seems to love?" The episode wraps up with our two hosts trading questions from the Venting and Joy editions of the Delve Deck! First up from the Venting edition: "what seems like it should make you happy but doesn't?"  Not satisfied with one venting question, they also discuss "what problem can you not believe technology hasn't solved yet?" As a palate cleanser they attempt to indulge in some joyful rumination, answering "if you could create a magic pill, what would it do?" Give a listen to hear their answers! Tess and Meredith celebrate the 200th episode of the podcast! They discuss the recent break-in and burglary at our offices and the motivations of male criminals compared to those of female criminals, but Meredith reserved the bulk of her ire for AT&T. They are the worst! They move on to this week's Troll Comment Champion, who, like many internet trolls, assumes everything on the internet is both a sincere documentary (and not a secret second thing like a tongue-in-cheek comedy sketch) and should also cater to their specific interests. Imagine going through life in the 21st century being disappointed and angry every time you open an app! In contrast, Boredwalk customer Sylvia is a big fan of her recent Delve Deck purchase, which is nice! Speaking of the Delve Deck, this week's Question of the Day spotlight was sparked by a card from the new Joy Edition expansion pack and asked "what is the best thing to happen to you in the last 12 months?" Fan answers ranged from paying off debts, getting sober and reuniting with kids, and international travel. Fun! They then wrap up exchanging their own answers to the Delve Deck: Venting Edition question "what habit do other people have that annoys you the most?" (Meredith dislikes flakiness, and Tess really doesn't appreciate self-centeredness in conversations) and the Joy Edition question "what is your favorite thing about your personality?" Tess says she appreciates her ability to be flexible and intuitive in social situations, and Meredith admires her sense of humor. Boredwalk co-founder Meredith was joined this week by Gabe, the newest member of Boredwalk's content team! Gabe shared a nice review from a customer regarding their recent Delve Deck purchase before discussing their respective holiday festivities. They then checked in on the week in troll comments — always a treat! Next up, they react to fan responses to the recent Question of the Day "what is the worst thing about 21st century living?" Unsurprisingly, the internet and social media feature heavily in the discussion. This led into a conversation about Meredith's current deep dive into documentaries about modern hippie communes. General consensus: fine for a weekend with close friends, but not appealing for extended periods with randos. They wrap up the episode trading answers to questions from the Delve Deck Venting and Joy expansion packs. First up: "what food do you hate to buy because you know it will go bad before you can finish it?" Gabe says Costco-sized bags of broccoli, Meredith says milk. Next, on the joyful side of things: "what do you find calming?" Gabe says staying in with his dogs and his partner, and Meredith agrees — she just wants to read books and sip tea in her egg chair. Boredwalk co-founder Meredith and Boredwalk content creator Tess discuss Tess's ailing kitty Jasper's recent tummy troubles and Meredith's foster cat menagerie. So many cats to help, so little time! Meredith also talks a bit about the new products Boredwalk has in store for 2024, holiday plans (or lack thereof), and the great job Boredwalk's operations staff did getting stuff shipped out quickly this season. Huzzah! Tess then shares a review from customer Danielle regarding her new copy of Whatever!, our activity book for 90s kids. How nice! On the flip side of that, there's a troll fail that is unintentionally funny because his misogynistic comment was not the burn he thought it would be given the context. Better luck next time, troll! However, it does spark an interesting discussion on aging, ageism, and sexist double-standards about aging propped up by tired patriarchal narratives. They then react to fan responses to the Question of the Day "what's a topic you can't seem to understand no matter how much anyone tries to explain it?" Answers ranged from arguments against veganism to pro sports salaries to cryptocurrency to fax machines to contribution margins in business to the stock market. We contain multitudes! Dream big if you're going to dream at all! They then discuss the cognitive dissonance of people who get upset that creators usually have jobs making content for multiple brands in order to make ends meet, internet trolls who don't understand how satire & parody work, and read a nice review from Cindy W. about how much she loves her Grievance Journal (available now at Boredwalk.com!) Josh & Matt then react to fan responses to the recent Question of the Day "What job doesn't exist now, but will probably exist in the future?" They also discuss the pathetic misogynists hiding behind Instagram handles — how tough and alpha of them! — who hate Boredwalk's feminist content and women in general. Imagine having such a angry, joyless life that actively seeking out content you dislike and ranting about it in the comments is what passes for a hobby. Tess & Meredith then react to fan responses to the QOTD "If you were an ancient god in a pantheon, what would be your sphere of influence?" as well as provide their own!
