Friend of the show Jay Bookman penned a piece chonicling how unpopular taxpayer funded private school vouchers are with conservatives and liberals - red and blue states. He also deftly explained what's happening in Georgia as a program set to aid maybe 6% of the state's student population attend a private school - with 1% of its education budget - suddenly appears to be available to nearly 20% of the state's students - at a much higher taxpayer cost - due to an interpretation by an unelected board tasked with managing the voucher program. Also, the disparate storytelling from Fox-owned WAGA-TV and Cox Media's WSB-TV. My goodness. Leigh McGowan, aka "Politics Girl" called for a Democratic Party "reboot" in one of her latest social media "rants" (her word; not mine) and I'm in near-total agreement with everything she said. Also, is Senator Chris Murphy prepping for a Presidential run? Sure seems like it. He ripped Georgia Rep. Barry Loudermilk's interim January 6th report recommending a criminal investigation into former Rep. Liz Cheney and has honed his anti-Trump/Musk messaging effectively, too. Just putting a pin in this for 2028.

Happy Monday! Sam and Emma speak with Dave Weigel, politics writer at Semafor, author of the "Americana" newsletter just one day out from the 2024 election. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on final-day swing state polling, the lingering impact of Trump's fascist rally at MSG, the electoral drag of Harris' support for genocide, RFK's fluoride attack, Israel's banning of UNRWA and enforced starvation in Gaza, and the NYT Tech Guild strike, before touching on Trump's ongoing deterioration and Mike Johnson's wild slip-up over the CHIPs Act. Dave Weigel then joins, diving right into the major Selzer poll out of Iowa, what it shows us regarding Harris' overwhelming support from women, and what this poll (and others) can tell us about the success of Harris' voter outreach across swing states. Weigel, Sam, and Emma also parse through the numbers behind early voting, why Democrats aren't particularly pressed about them, and the evolving constituency of independent voters, before touching on the GOP's GOTV fiasco – led by Elon Musk and Charlie Kirk. After briefly reflecting on the lingering impact of Trump's Bund rally at MSG, they get into a preview of the Senate fight, what the best/worst case scenarios are for Dems and Republicans across the Presidency, House, and Senate, and what particular races might act as bellwethers for the greater election. Sam also highlights a John Oliver segment on Georgia Rep. Ruwa Romman's comments on voting for Harris. And in the Fun Half: Emma talks with Greg from Massachusetts about down-ballot voting and the secret men for Harris vote, dives deep into the context for and meaning behind Selzer's Iowa poll (with some added commentary from Trump and, later on, Jeff from Iowa), and Tim from Chicago asks about the election night timeline. Tucker reflects on wrestling with his demons (and losing), RFK Jr. sets his sights on fluoride, and Steve Doocy can't quite put his finger on why women don't like Trump, plus, your calls and IMs! Rick Scott have been swatted recently.Jack Smith, the special counsel who's prosecuting former President Trump in two cases, was swatted on Christmas Day.A 911 caller pretended to have broken into the home of Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows the day after she disqualified Trump from being on the state's primary ballot...The fake calls often claim a bomb threat, murder, or burglary, creating a dangerous situation as law enforcement arrives prepared to deal with potentially armed criminals... What's being done about it: Multiple politicians have called for legislation that would make it easier to identify those responsible for swatting and levy stronger penalties. For now, no arrests have been made in connection with these crimes as the callers almost always use fake caller ID or phone spoofing software to remain untraceable. For perspective on what can be done to stop this, turn to a 29-year law enforcement veteran who now trains officers around the world. Sgt. Betsy Brantner Smith (Ret.) is spokesperson for National Police Association, a non profit that supports law enforcement officers across the U.S. She began her career as a police dispatcher at age 17 and has held positions in patrol, investigations, narcotics, juvenile, hostage negotiation, crime prevention, K-9 and field training. She has been a law enforcement trainer for over 20 years.  Tune in 10 AM - 12 PM EST weekdays on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT; or on the Audacy app!

Hunter Biden abruptly leaves his contempt hearing as Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene prepares to address him directly. Regardless of what the left may tell you, for most of the world, the U.S.A. is the land of milk and honey. In a 2021 opinion post, Jim Clifton, the chairman of the polling company Gallup, wrote that when asked, 27 percent of people in Latin America said they would like to move to a different country. And of that percentage, around 35 percent, or roughly 42 million people, chose America as their preferred country. Plus more on today's episode.

On today's epsiode of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Politically Georgia podcast, AJC Washington reporter Tia Mitchell describes why Georgia Rep. Nikema Williams became one of only two Democrats in the U.S. House to vote against expelling Rep. George Santos. And discusses the reasons five members of the GOP Georgia delegation voted to keep Santos in office.    We'll also explain how the new Georgia congressional map drawn by Republican legislators seems to defy federal Judge Steve Jones' order that they create an additional Black majority congressional district. The map threatens the tenure of Democrat Lucy McBath and could force other Democratic incumbents to run in different districts than those in which they now serve.    Plus, The lawyer representing Donald Trump in the Fulton County election conspiracy criminal case makes his first appearance in court. Steve Sadow argues that the proposed August start date for trial is “election interference,” since Trump is likely to be running for the White House at that point in time. He also asserts that Trump had a Constitutionally-protected right of free speech to claim the 2020 election was fraudulent.    Links to today's topics: How Georgia Reps voted on George Santos expulsion...and why  New congressional map maintains GOP power and may defy court order  Trump. lawyer argues Fulton County trial dates would be "election interference"    Have a question for the show? In a statement posted to Twitter, Abbott explained that by treating the flow of illegal migration as an "invasion," Texas would be able to tackle the problem with unprecedented vigor. "I invoked the Invasion Clauses of the US & Texas Constitutions to fully authorize Texas to take unprecedented measures to defend our state against an invasion," Abbott stated, adding that he's "using that constitutional authority, & other authorization & Executive Orders to keep our state & country safe." Abbott revealed that his government will deploy both the National Guard and Texas Department of Public Safety to "repel," turn back and arrest those trying to enter the country illegally. In addition, he expressed intentions of constructing a border wall in multiple counties, deploying gun boats, and designating Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations. Abbott noted that Texas does not intend to act alone in this endeavor, and will enter into agreements with other states and foreign nations to secure the border. Over 2 million migrant encounters were recorded in Fiscal Year 2022. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/mccarthy-wins-gop-nomination-for-house-speaker McCarthy wins GOP nomination for House speaker Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy won the Republicans' designation for House speaker on Tuesday, but questions remain over his ability to lock up the spot on the floor in January. McCarthy, R-Calif., beat back a challenge by more conservative elements in the House Republican Conference represented by Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona. The final vote tally was 188-31. Most of Biggs’ support came from members of the hard line House Freedom Caucus. Biggs had previously chaired the group, which counts more than two dozen House Republicans among its membership, between 2019 and 2022. McCarthy, meanwhile, was able to assemble a large cross-section of the House GOP conference behind his candidacy. That included conservative hardliners like Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and centrists like Rep. Brian FitzPatrick of Pennsylvania. But the number of people who opposed him could cause trouble. "Losing 31 means he is in serious danger of not having the votes in January which would mean he’d need to drop out either that day or he could decide to before," said a senior aide to GOP leadership. "At that point, others would pounce." To become speaker in January, McCarthy will need at least 218 votes if the entire 435-member House is seated and voting. Currently, the potential Republican majority looks to be anywhere between 218 seats, the bare minimum needed to control the House, and 228 seats. The latter would constitute a sweep of all outstanding races, including some in which Democrats are favored, but still falls far short of the 60 seats McCarthy predicted could be possible under a GOP wave that never materialized. https://townhall.com/tipsheet/spencerbrown/2022/11/15/key-inflation-metrics-surges-again-n2615978 Key Inflation Metric Makes Biggest Jump Since June The October read on producer inflation showed some of the highest numbers in months on key indicators of price increases that have come as a result of the Biden administration and congressional Democrats' tax-and-spend agenda. Month-over-month, headline PPI inflation advanced 0.2 percent in October — the same as in September — and prices upstream from consumers increased a full eight percent in the 12 months ending in October. The core PPI number that excludes more volatile foods, energy, and trade services also saw prices increase 0.2 percent for an annual advance of 5.4 percent. Some of the more alarming data points in the latest Producer Price Index report include the index for final demand goods, which advanced 0.6 percent in October — the largest advance since June when that metric increased 2.2 percent. The Biden administration's war on safe, cheap, and reliable energy has also taken a toll on inflation, as seen again in October's PPI report in which most of the month-over-month increases "can be traced to a 2.7-percent jump in prices for final demand energy," the Bureau of Labor Statistics noted in its latest report. What's more, 60 percent of October's price increases for final demand goods are attributable to the index for gasoline which jumped 5.7 percent. At the same time, prices also increased for diesel fuel, fresh and dry vegetables, residential electric power, chicken eggs, and oil and gas field machinery. The only potential bright spot in October's PPI report is the 0.1 percent decrease seen in final demand services, its first downward movement since November of 2020. However, final demand services excluding trade, transportation, and warehousing increased by 0.2 percent. https://thepostmillennial.com/bus-carrying-illegal-aliens-to-arrive-in-philadelphia-this-week?utm_campaign=64487 Bus carrying illegal aliens to arrive in Philadelphia this week Philadelphia is preparing for the potential arrival of a busload of migrants coming from Del Rio, Texas, later this week. A spokesperson for the city told Fox News that information regarding the bus and its arrival are still not clear. Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney told NBC Philadelphia that the city would welcome the migrants "with open arms," though he also remained unclear of the timeline. The city is confident that they have enough of a plan in place, including shelter, food, and clothing. There are also plans to try and expedite work permits for the migrants so that they may become self-sufficient sooner. Other self-proclaimed sanctuary cities that have received migrant buses in the last few months have reported being overwhelmed by the influx of illegal immigrants, so much so that a public emergency was declared. Texas Governor Greg Abbott first announced that he would be transporting busloads of migrants out of Texas back in April. He has since then sent out hundreds of migrant buses to sanctuary cities across the country. The 300th bus filled with migrants from Texas left for Chicago last week. The migrant buses have been dismissed by Democrats as simply a publicity stunt, but Abbott insists that the move is to relieve pressure from the overwhelmed border towns that take the brunt of Biden's failing immigration policies. Georgia Rep. Park Cannon was arrested last week as Georgia became the latest state to implement laws that restrict Black voters' rights. In response to alleged voter fraud, dozens of new voting laws have been introduced in states across the country, even though GOP officials and former President Trump's own attorney have acknowledged they have no evidence to support said allegations. While the Democrats have majority control of Congress, they won't be able to pass legislation to protect voting rights unless they abolish the filibuster, a Jim Crow-era relic that was previously used to block civil rights legislation.Help us continue producing radically independent news and in-depth analysis by following us and making a small donation: Donate: https://therealnews.com/donate-ytSign up for our newsletter: https://therealnews.com/nl-ytLike us on Facebook: https://facebook.com/therealnewsFollow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/therealnews
