The big things you need to know:First, earnings sentiment has stabilized a bit, helping stock prices find some footing for the moment.Second, we run through our thoughts on what we learned from last week's earnings calls. We think there are two different perspectives at play on the consumer, which may be adding to investor confusion. We exited the week seeing managing tariff impacts as a work in progress, but with a greater appreciation of the work that has been done.

Guitarist Mike Baggetta calls his band MSSV a post-genre power trio—and this band does pack a punch. Baggetta is joined in the band by Mike Watt of the Minutemen and Firehose, and Stephen Hodges who played with Tom Waits on several albums, as well as with Mavis Staples, Wanda Jackson, and Jonathan Richman.Baggetta spoke with WRFI's Felix Teitelbaum from the road about their new album "On and On," the meaninglessness of genre, and more!
On And On is the 3rd studio album from the post-genre power trio mssv featuring the legendary rhythm team of drummer Stephen Hodges (Tom Waits, Mavis Staples, David Lynch) and bassist mike watt (MINUTEMEN, fIREHOSE, Stooges) alongside the unique and iconoclastic guitar of its genre-bending bandleader, Mike Baggetta. On And On features brand new songs that were written by Baggetta before their 58-show 2023 US tour and performed every night, recorded and produced by Chris Schlarb at BIG EGO Studio in Long Beach, CA immediately after. The album comes out on BIG EGO Records on 12” LP vinyl, digital download and streaming services on Friday, March 7, 2025 and features artwork by John Herndon (Tortoise). Featured in the works on this album is a band-improvised song and, on the vinyl issue only, six more band-improvised interludes. These improvised, then recomposed, instrumentals had their parts recorded separately by each member, then edited down, recombined and recomposed by Baggetta'. They serve as an important connective tissue between the songs on each side, turning On And On into an exciting and trippy psychedelic fever dream of a concept album. This serves to really bring out the story of On And On: at its heart it is an album where all the works combine to create an endless episodic journey through the temporal and seemingly fleeting nature of society, personality, music, and life and death on Earth, only to realize that all of these are also endlessly repeating. Seven of the eight new songs feature vocals from Baggetta, now much more comfortable in his vocal role from the previous mssv album Human Reaction. The wordcraft heard here in On And On goes a lot deeper than his previous lyric writing, while still remaining wholly individual in its exploratory playfulness. The subject matter here, while being universally relatable, is rife with personal references, stories of his and the band's friends and relationships, and one song “Despair & Hilarity” including lyrics written by one of Baggetta's most important musical collaborators Steve Gigante (7 Year Rabbit Cycle, W-S Burn, THETEETHE). Continuing to explore the seemingly endless depths of Hodges' and watt's musicianship and skill over the many tours and albums in mssv has grown an instantly identifiable sound from Baggetta's songwriting for this band. But the trust that has formed between them, that comes from long-running musical partnerships, has also made it possible for mssv to explore more interesting ways to incorporate improvised music into the lives of their songs, innovating their music in new ways while still keeping the fearless nature of each musician and this band fully intact. On And On skillfully combines all of these elements into a newly evolved lens for the music of mssv, deftly displayed in this album as a high concept love letter to everyday life. In this episode we were lucky enough to catch up with two Kscope artists who both have new music to share with us. Firstly, we hear from Iamthemorning's virtuoso pianist Gleb Kolyadin who is celebrating the release of his solo album Mobula which takes listeners on a journey through cosmic landscapes, where imagination transforms the ordinary. Then our host Billy Reeves chats with Colin Edwin (ex Porcupine Tree) about the upcoming album from his band O.R.k, who have been teasing this release with singles for the last 6 months so it really is a long awaited release! The new album Firehose of Falsehoods marks another chapter in the band's ever-evolving exploration of progressive, alternative, and art rock and captures O.R.k.'s signature mix of spontaneity, intricacy, and supreme musicianship.
"House Of Steam" Putting it simply the L.A.-born Nels Cline's resume' is so deep, to quote Mark Eitzel, it "would make the ocean proud." The guitarist and composer is one of the most respected names in the business and though he's perhaps best known these days for being the guitarist of Wilco, let's not single story Mr. Cline, because his body of work is varied and extensive. Aside from his early jazz work with his twin brother Alex, he's played with everyone from the Geraldine Fibbers to Mike Watt to Thurston Moore. But that doesn't even scratch the surface. Cline has played on close to 200 albums in jazz, pop, rock, country, and experimental music. Let me give you a few of those 200 to play with: Yoko Ono, Henry Kaiser, Firehose, Wayne Kramer, Rickie Lee Jones, John Zorn, Ramblin' Jack Elliot, Neil Finn, Lee Ranaldo and Chris Stamey. And belive me when I tell you that's a heavily expurgated list. Over the years Cline has been in bands with his pal Mike Watt Floored By Four, band with his wife Yuka Honda of Cibo Matto and he's had the Nels Cline Singers, the Nels Cline Trio, and the Nels Cline 4. Now comes The Consentrik Quartet, which is Cline along with saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock, bassist Chirs Lightcap and drummer Tom Rainey. Improvisational, experimental and downright wonderful, the band's debut album is a profound blend of rich cycle grooves, unexpected rhythmic excursions, and subtle meter innovations. It's marvelous work. Filled with delicate percussive brushes, virtuoso sax fills, prowling bass lines idiosyncratic sax melodies and Cline's nimble guitar lines moving through each composition with dextrous finesse, it's hard to think of a richer listening experience in recent memory. It's hard to think of a nicer guy as well--Nels is a lovely fellow and now you get to meet him. www.nelscline.com (http://www.nelscline.com) www.bombshellradio.com (http://www.bombshellradio.com) www.stereoembersmagazine.com (http://www.stereoembersmagazine.com) www.alexgreenbooks.com (http://www.alexgreenbooks.com) Stereo Embers The Podcast IG & Bluesky: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com
Join us as Boredwalk's content team — Tess Menzies, Ansley Hutchinson, and Gabe Sanchez — discuss the goings on at Boredwalk HQ over the last week! First up, our co-hosts read and react to a sampling of the more grotesque, offensive, and nonsensical troll comments on Boredwalk's recent social posts. Ansley then reads a recent review from a Boredwalk customer (ICYMI, we don't just tell jokes, we sell products too)! All three co-hosts then dive into fascinating discussions courtesy of our Delve Deck conversation card sets! Tess gets philosophical about her career path & desire for approval and validation from strangers, Gabe reflects on the power of saying "no" & his sweet tooth, and Ansley gets vulnerable about her neurodivergence & love of greasy fast food. While US presidents throughout history seem to elicit strong reactions, President Trump inspires a degree of hysteria from those that oppose him and a do-no-wrong deference from his supporters. What we find is that whatever the issue is—it could be domestic spending, sanctions, or tariffs—when someone has an obviously dripping disdain for Trump, it weakens the efficacy of their argument, even if partly accurate. The opposite is also true. We find both extremes to be pretty unhelpful in sorting through what matters. By the time this video podcast is published, President Trump will have only been in office for 4 weeks: there are still 3 years and 48 weeks to go—permanent freak out mode is not sustainable or healthy! In this week's video, which we recorded a little earlier than usual due to some travel this past week, we address a number of questions that have arisen. We are going to do our best to use our equity research analyst's mindset to assess policy actions taken or proposed. This means our only goal is to make the right call and provide the best insight we can for the companies we advise. We will keep our answers focused on how it all might impact the long-term energy macro and corporate strategy.
OA1125 - (NOTE: Acting US Attorney for SDNY Danielle Sassoon's resignation letter and DOJ acting deputy Emil Bove's acceptance of that letter were published while we were recording this episode, and hours before the Trump administration was enjoined by a DC federal judge from suspending international aid. The news hose never stops!) For this Rapid Response Friday, we do our best to answer some of your questions about waves hands in the general direction of DC. Why is the media reporting the illegal attempts to fire (among others) the head of the Office of Special Counsel and 17 investigators general like a normal federal HR issue? Did FEMA really just straight-up steal $80 million from New York City's bank account? Is it now legal to bribe foreign companies abroad and act as an unregistered foreign agent at home? Why are we sending Venezuelan asylum seekers with no criminal records or gang affiliations to Guantanamo Bay just weeks after DHS Secretary Kristi Noem promised that it would only be housing the “worst of the worst”? And just where exactly is the “Gulf of America” anyway? These and other questions from the week's news are answered within. Send us a textOn nearly every previous episode of You, Me and An Album, Al has invited a guest to introduce him to one album he doesn't know well (or at all), but this week's guest talks about seven of his favorite albums. Mike Montgomery, who owns Candyland Recording Studio in Dayton, Kentucky, and is a member of R.Ring and Ampline, suggested 11 possible albums to discuss on this episode, but he and Al weren't able to narrow the list down. So Mike talks about seven of those albums (noted in the rundown below). Not only were they unable to settle on one album from Mike's list, but Mike also suggested that Al introduce him to some of his favorite albums. From Al's short list of eight albums, he decided to discuss three of them on this episode, bringing the total albums featured up to an even 10.Mike explains how his love of skateboarding led him down a musical rabbit hole that ultimately brought him to several of the albums on his list. Al talks about his tendency to immerse himself in a single artist's discography, and how that led him to discover several of the albums that made his short list.Mike also discusses his Nervous Verbs solo project and the debut Nervous Verbs album Pony Coughing, which will be out on February 28. He explains why he decided to not record his Nervous Verbs songs with his other bands and talks about some of the musicians he collaborated with for this project. There are several places to keep up with Mike and his bands on Instagram, and they're all worth a follow!@candyland_recording_studio@nervousverbs@r.ringsings@amplinegramAl is on Bluesky at @almelchior.bsky.social. Donald Trump ramps up his dangerous lies about immigrants and hurricanes while even some Republican officials start to push back. Plus, former CIA Director John Brennan on the damning new revelations about Trump and Vladimir Putin's cozy relationship in Bob Woodward's new book “War.”
Antoine Arvizu is the studio owner and manager, recording and producing most of the artists that come to us for that “Compound Sound”. Some artists and producers of note include: Chicano Batman, Ryan Bingham (Grammy and Oscar winner for Crazy Heart), Marc Ford (The Black Crowes, Ben Harper, Booker T. Jones), Ikey Owens (Free Moral Agents, Jack White, The Mars Volta), Jay Buchanan (Rival Sons)… Arvizu began his music career as a drummer in the late 70s/early 80s as punk rock morphed into an alternative art rock. A founding member of Dr. Dream Records recording artists National Peoples Gang, he toured internationally before disbanding in the mid-90s; sharing the stage with such iconic bands as The Flaming Lips, Nirvana, Soundgarden, fIREHOSE and many more during those early days of "indie rock". A recording career began in 1991 at the now defunct The Toledo studio in Long Beach engineering for Sublime, Rocket From The Crypt, Big Drill Car and many more. Later in the nineties he was a founding member of the Delta Blues group Bourbon Jones, earning the moniker Two Drum Tony, famous for simply playing the 26″ Radio King bass drum and cowhide snare, digging deep into the second line style of New Orleans blues and swing. It was in 1998 that Antoine had the opportunity to engineer at Capitol Studios in Hollywood. The list of fine artists that come through those studios is staggering, to name a few: Paul McCartney, The JB's, Richard Carpenter, Elliot Smith, Faith Hill… and the list of world class engineers and producers is outrageous; education through osmosis. In 2003, happy to finally have a studio to truly call home, Antoine joined The Compound Studio to help create “An Organic Recording Experience". In the latest episode of the House of Wealth Podcast, I'm getting candid about my spiritual evolution from new age practices to exploring Christianity. This journey has been profound, eye-opening, and at times, overwhelming with the wealth of information I'm taking in. However, I've found a deep sense of peace and contentment in my connection with God that I hadn't experienced before. I openly discuss the doubts and questions that inevitably arise, but emphasize the importance of faith and trusting my personal experience to guide me. I also express immense gratitude for the unanswered prayers that, in hindsight, redirected me toward a happier, more fulfilling path aligned with God's plan for my life. Key Insights: The comfort in knowing I'm not alone in this spiritual seeking How my connection to God has brought me a deeper peace than new age spirituality My focus is on learning and understanding, not filling a void Acknowledging doubts while relying on personal experience Gratitude for unanswered prayers that led to positive redirection This is a raw, honest look at my spiritual evolution and the transformative impact of surrendering to a higher power. You'll gain insights into my journey and the profound changes I've experienced.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Drinking from a Firehose: Puppy Enrichment Weeks 5 to 8 Dr. Marty Greer joins host Laura Reeves for a continuation of their conversation about puppies and neonates. Puppies raised properly are given the best possible start to their future. Today's topic is enrichment, all of the things that we can do in the five to eight week period between “their eyes are open, they're eating solid food, they're probably weaned or close to it” and go-home day. Laura asks, “What's happening in those little tiny puppy brains in that five to eight week period?” Marty's response is, “They're taking in the world so fast, it's like drinking from a fire hose. “There's a lot of people who talk about this and a lot of people who pontificate about it. I think Sophia Yin talked about a hundred experiences in a hundred days. That gives you basically three months to get all kinds of information into their little brains. “Even when you don't think you're teaching your puppy something, you're teaching your puppy something. And so I think we have to be ultra aware of even the things that we do when we have our back turned that if we're making dinner or there's a puppy jumping on the other puppy or there's puppy going potty on the floor because they didn't get our attention to take them outside. We just taught them something. “You have to be ultra aware of everything you do. Not paying attention to them doesn't mean that they're not learning something. I think we really have to pay attention to that and there's lots of really fun things we can do to teach them cool stuff, but be careful, because they're learning every second. “If they learn that they put their feet on the breadboard and pull something off (the counter), even if you weren't looking, they just learned they can put their feet on the breadboard. And if it takes them 100 tries to get one thing the next time, it's like winning the lottery. “We think about our little tiny puppies and there's all this stuff going on. They've got littermates, they've got other dogs in the house, they've got smells, they've got sounds, they've got all this stuff. You don't want them to hear the ketchup bottle make that funny, squirty noise when it's almost empty when they're in their new home for the first time and it freaks them out. “So you have to really think about all the input that we want to have for our dogs. How do we set them up for success? How do we provide them those things? So I do smell, I do touch, so I give different surfaces, we do different visual things, we do different toys, there's different tastes, so there's so much we can do.”
Some parents don't talk about sex with their children. Others hope one conversation will do the trick. Jim Daly suggests a more effective way to have “the talk” with your children: Be a drip line, not a fire hose.
