Wests Tigers Perform Magic Against Dragons

Wests Tigers made it two straight wins with a victory over the Dragons in Magic Round. Travelling to Brisbane after last Sunday's dramatic win over the Sharks, the Wests Tigers held on against the Red V 34-28. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Eddie Otto, Garry Watson, and Nick Hayes try to make sense of the Tigers' most recent performance. Some bits looked great, other aspects of our performance were less impressive, despite our boys coming away with two valuable points. The boys put the game under the microscope and looked at areas we can still improve, and the areas that have some of us confident we're going to go at least darn close to the finals. Another discussion point is the difference in the team now, after eight rounds, compared to the Tigers' team that started the year. Some of the individual performances from the Saturday night fixture also get a mention, including Jerome Luai, Jahream Bula, Charlie Staines, and our Terminator, Terrell May. Saints and Sinners, Eddie turns to God? Yes, the man upstairs gets a mention on this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast with Eddie thanking the all-mighty for his help in recent games! There are, of course, some great 'One Word' submissions from the many loyal and dedicated Wests Tigers fans on the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum. Stefano Utoikamanu also gets a mention this edition, that's ahead of our big clash with the Stoem this weekend (three in a row??). And Steve Stretton, who did have a leave pass for this edition of the podcast, has turned up in the newspapers after taking a well-known (maybe not overly respected) rugby league columnist to task. Get all the details on that by clicking download and play on this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast. Thanks for listening!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Wests Tigers are out to make it two wins in a row when they meet the Dragons in Magic Round. Coming off that memorable win against the Sharks on Sunday afternoon, we meet the fellow top-eight aspirants in Brisbane on Saturday night. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Eddie Otto is joined by Steve Stretton and Declan McCutcheon. The trio gives their thoughts on the "Leichhardt Oval miracle" and how the home fans helped get the boys across the line. Speaking of Leichhardt, Eddie raises the club's future stadium strategy and asks whether the advantage we seem to get at the ground is worth diminishing. There's also some debate among the boys on where to now with the Lachlan Galvin situation? Attention turns to the Dragons. The boys give a preview of the St.George-Illawarra clash with a particular eye on the importance of beating our joint-venture rivals. With the Storm next week, then the bye, there are mixed opinions on the pod about what a win or a loss could mean for the Wests Tigers' season. There are more changes at the Holman Barnes Group (will this ever end?). Steve gives an update on what's happening. Just remember, though, these are not changes or dramas (at this stage at least) at Wests Tigers! After an autumn break, 'Buy, Sell, or Hold' has made a triumphant return with Eddie coming up with some great conversation starters, including: Is Sunia Turuva the best Wests Tigers winger of all time? Did Sione Fainu milk that game-winning penalty against Cronulla? Penrith will miss the top eight this year? And that sneaky Steve has managed to find his way out of competing in Yioti's Quiz - he's taken over asking the questions! We hope you enjoy this mid-week edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast. Don't forget to join the discussion on the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum, and we'll see you for hopefully another post-win edition of the pod early next week!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Wests Tigers have scored a memorable win over the Sharks in Round 8 of the 2025 NRL season. Coming into the game as outsiders, the Wests Tigers managed to hold the Sharks to 18-all at the end of regular time. But in Golden Point, the boys found a way to win it, with Adam Doueihi kicking a penalty goal for the points! After eight rounds, the Wests Tigers have eight points, a 50% win ratio, and are just outside the top eight. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes is joined by Nick Hayes and Garry Watson to look at the remarkable events that unfolded at Leichhardt. Some big issues to discuss. The two-point win raises questions around the rest of the season for the Tigers. For example, are there still more improvements to come? What could be tweaked to make us an even more potent football side, not just this year but into next season too? The individual performances on the day from guys like Sunia Turuva, Adam Doueihi, Starford To'a, Jarome Luai, Sione Fainu, Sam Fainu, and Terrell May. While 150-game warrior, Alex Twal, also gets a special mention, not just for his efforts yesterday, but for what he's brought to the Wests Tigers during his career. Naturally, the boys give their one-word submissions from the roller-coaster experience that was Tigers V Sharks, and there are plenty of submissions from members of the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum too. And we give our take on 'Richo's Meter" too, determining just where the Tigers are currently sitting on that Poor to Great scale. While there's also a little bit of player transfer news around that comes up for discussion, including the departure of Tim Johanssen from the club. But really, it's all about a dogged and determined Wests Tigers team that did us all proud at Leichhardt Oval yesterday.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The name of this Wests Tigers Podcast edition is simply two questions, and we have plenty more! Joel Helmes, Eddie Otto, Steve Stretton, and Garry Watson are on deck for this later-than-usual post-game edition of the pod. As we know, Wests Tigers succumbed to the Eels on Monday afternoon. That result leads us to some big questions that we try to answer, including: When it comes to big events like this, why don't we often turn up as a team? Should we play home games against the Eels at CommBank Stadium? Did the club make some mistakes last week in regards to Lachlan Galvin? There are plenty of other things that get discussed as well, including the lies and manipulation in the rugby league media. What is stopping Jarome Luai from being more dominant in attack with the Wests Tigers? And we run through all the 'One Word' submissions from our valued Wests Tigers Podcast Forum members. Steve and Garry also let us know how the big Ambush event at Commbank stadium went, including info that came from guests Latu Fainu and Jeral Skelton. The Lachlan Galvin saga has continued this week, leading to this bonus edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast. After a strong debate after the story broke on Monday night, followed by more analysis by Eddie and the boys on Wednesday, we now have this third pod for the week. We take a look at the press conferences held by Benji Marshall, then Wests Tigers' captains, Api Koroisau and Jarome Luai. Joel, Garry, and Nick give their thoughts on what was said and why we're starting to see the potential positives of testing out the coach and players' responses to a situation like this. Most importantly, comparing that response to what we have seen in the past from our club and playing group. Is this going to be the issue that finally helps turn Wests Tigers into a more focused and battle-hardened team? Let's make a statement against the Eels! We then turn our attention to the big Monday afternoon clash with the Parramatta Eels at CommBank Stadium. The Easter Monday fixture looks set to be a memorable encounter with the Wests Tigers no doubt out to tell the world they're bigger and better this year, with or without Galvin. The stats show Wests Tigers should be firm favourites, and the Eels have also lost a few players in recent days, but they do welcome back Mitch Moses for the game. We also look at the reshuffle of the Tiger's team, including the move to the halves for Adam Doueihi, and hopefully the remergence of Luai in Batman mode. The return of experienced centre Brent Naden also draws our attention. Big guests at the Ambush. Don't forget to get along to the free Ambush event before the game at CommBank, with two special guests ensuring it should be a memorable experience. Jeral Skelton will be a guest, as will Latu Fainu, and Garry will get the chance to interview both injured Wests Tigers stars. What we hear from Latu should be of particular interest! The Wests Tigers Podcast has had a bit of a reshuffle with regular programming put on hold this week. That change is because of two different reasons: the boys don't play until Easter Monday, and then there's Lachlan Galvin. After a debate on Monday night on the future of the 19-year-old half, where quite polar opposite opinions were aired, have things changed in the ensuing 48 hours? In other words, is someone going to say on this podcast that, in fact, "Joel was right"? You'll have to listen to this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast to find out. Who's on the show? Eddie Otto is hosting and is joined by Steve Stretton, while Declan McCutcheon and Nick Hayes get a chance to have their first say on the Galvin saga. Some of the questions the boys look at include the obvious one - where does this go from here? If Galvin does get off at the next bus stop, who do we need to target as a replacement? Does that need to be someone to play in the halves? And how will this affect our season? Could it even be a positive in regards to camaraderie among the playing group and a more settled offense on the field? Don't forget to join everyone over on the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum to have your say! A bit get for the Ambush! How's this for a get? This Monday's Ambush fan event at CommBank Stadium will see man in waiting, Latu Fainu, join the boys for an interview. Joined by fellow injured Wests Tigers star, Jeral Skelton, get along to that event to hear firsthand from Latu and find out his thoughts on his future alongside Jarome Luai in the Tigers' halves. Attendance to the event is free and will take place at the CommBank Stadium Bar inside Gate B from 2:30 pm. The mid-week edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast has warmed up and had last words from the coach! Eddie Otto, Nick Hayes, and Garry Watson are ready to run out onto the podcast field...but there isn't much Wests Tigers news to discuss. That means we've had to call in Artificial Intelligence (AI) to see what topics this 21st-century marvel produces for us. What we do know is that the Tigers are sitting at two wins and two losses so far in season 2025, and Nick and Eddie share their thoughts on Sunday night's Warriors match. Roster Changes at Wests Tigers. Also on the agenda (though not an AI suggestion) is the announcement by Wests Tigers of three roster changes. The changes see Solomona Faataape upgraded to the NRL Top 30 squad, and one Wests Tigers Podcast member believes this move might have been strategic to make way for a young star. While Izaac Tu’itupou and Krystian Mapapalangi are also joining the club on training contracts, both have limited NRL experience. The boys give their thoughts on all that. There's also a look at how the NRL's crackdown on accidental head-high tackles might affect the Tigers (as if it hasn't already!). Under the microscope is a look at reports of a five-year, five-million-dollar contract offer on the table for Lachlan Galvin from our club. We take a deep dive into the 26-24 loss and look at the areas that cost us, the things that leave us worried, and the issues that continue to plague the team (someone say 'physicality'?). But it isn't all doom and gloom as there were some signs that despite the loss, the Wests Tigers are trending in the right direction. Recruitment discussion also features. Yes, we take a look at where things are at recruitment wise for the club, with the discussion centering around trying to strengthen the squad for the short and medium terms. Wests Tigers will welcome seven new players tomorrow evening at Campbelltown Stadium. After months and months of waiting, Premiership winners Jarome Luai and Sunia Turuva will finally run out in our colours for the first time. Joining new buys Jack Bird, Terrell May, Jeral Skelton, Royce Hunt, and Tristan Hope, the premiership winning pair are a further welcome addition. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel, Declan and Steve preview this big round one clash with the Knights. Where do the Tigers look to have an advantage, and what worries us about the Knights' lineup? What do the Tigers need to do to end the six-match winning streak the Knights hold over us? And we give our predictions on how the match will play out. Well done Wests Tigers media team. This podcast also features a response to the new 'Thrive or Survive' video posted by the club on YouTube yesterday. While certain members of the Wests Tigers Podcast have been a bit critical of the efforts of the media team at the club over the off-season, this is redemption. The video gives you an intimate, behind the scenes look at the players and coaches and would have to be one of the best productions we've seen from Wests Tigers. Congratulations to all involved, and we look forward to seeing future episodes. The return of the quiz! Yioti's Quiz is also back for this first in-season edition of the podcast with the quizmaster reminding us of some early moments in Benji Marshall's playing career, and names from the Wests Tigers past. And win, lose or draw, please don't forget to leave your one-word submissions on the Wests Tigers V Knights game on the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum. The Wests Tigers proved too strong for Parramatta on Friday night at Leichhardt Oval. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes is joined by Steve Stretton and Nick Hayes to break down the trial win over the Eels. The boys look at some of the main talking points out of the game, including the form and contribution of recruits Terrell May, Jack Bird, Jeral Skelton, and Royce Hunt. There's discussion around the possible backline for round one, including whether Adam Doueihi will take one of the centre spots, and Heath Mason's prospects at fullback (if chosen). And, naturally, there's a discussion around the Wests Tigers halves with one Wests Tigers Podcast Forum member calling for a radical rethink before the season starts. Wests Tigers forwards impressed The Wests Tigers made more metres than the Eels, more post-contact metres, and made more tackle breaks, but despite this, there were a couple of forwards that had relatively quiet games on Friday. Joel, Steve and Nick take a look at the forward stocks and discuss what might be the best combo for the game against the Knights next weekend. Hooker discussion also comes up with Tristan Hope impressing in his time on the field, but has he done enough to take the nine jersey from Tallyn Da Silva for that game? Do we stick with Alex Twal at lock? And, is it just us, or have this Tiger's team bonded better over the off-season than going into previous seasons? Referee Ashley Klein also gets a mention, though not in a particularly positive manner! Lots of listener contributions Thank you to all the members of the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum who contributed their 'One Word' responses, naturally, we will stick with this tradition through the season. Check out some further tweaks made on the forum, including changes to advertising settings which should make for a better user experience through season 2025. Eddie, Declan, and Steve have popped up for a mid-week Wests Tigers Podcast! The 2025 NRL season must be close because a mid-week edition of the Wests Tiger Podcast is warmed up and ready to go. Prodigal son Eddie returns after a long summer break and is joined by two recent pod part-timers, Steve and Declan. The boys give their quick summary and thoughts on the Wests Tigers' first trial of the year last Sunday at Kogarah. Then they launch into discussion around the future of Wests Tigers prop-forward, David Klemmer. What to do with big Klem? There is talk that the veteran front-rower might have played his last game for the club. Is it a good move by Wests Tigers to let him go and join the Dragons this close to the kick-off of the season? The boys also discuss what we should do with his roster spot and salary if he does depart for St.George-Illawarra, should we be looking for a second rower instead? Also, does the move leave us light-on upfront, and should we consider Francis Molo as a replacement? Next up, Parramatta. Then the discussion turns to this Friday night's second NRL trial with the Wests Tigers taking on the Eels at Leichhardt Oval. Up for discussion is the selection of Alex Twal at lock, Adam Doueihi at halfback, and the captaincy for Alex Seyfarth, among other topics surrounding this game. Lastly, it's the return of Eddie's version of Buy, Sell, or Hold with topics ranging from trial ticket prices to the fortunes of Wests Tigers Coach Benji Marshall if the team has another poor season. It was great to see the Wests Tigers in action on Sunday, though most of our star players were absent. This edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast is a look back at the 20-14 (four tries to three) loss to the Bulldogs at Kogarah. As per tradition, we start with a healthy list of 'One Word' submissions about the trial from members of the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum. Then we look at some of the positives to come out of the game, including the impressive performances of guys such as Kit Laulilii, Solomon Saukuru, and new buy, Jeral Skelton. These good showings might make for some rethinking of the round one Wests Tigers team, along with this Friday night's trial against the Eels at Leichhardt Oval. Other positives? It is fair to say that the Wests Tigers look fitter than last year, while there seems to be some real class coming through in the next generation of playmakers. While the strong performances from Royce Hunt and Brent Naden in the Indigenous All-Stars game also give us reason to be optimistic. More questions than answers Joel Helmes, Garry Watson, and Nick Hayes, also look at some of the head scratches that still exist, including: Sione Fainu, is he a chance of playing on an edge in the NRL? What will Tim Johannssen's future bring? Who will play fullback in Round One if Bula isn't available? What is going on with Justin Olam and his knees? If he is out, who will play centre for Round One? Is Luke Laulilii out for an extended period? Some things to be concerned about too. On the other side of the coin, the boys raise some concerns out of the trial match, including the performance of a couple of guys who we thought might be genuine NRL prospects this year. We hope you enjoy this first post-match edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast for 2025 and don't forget to join the conversation right now at the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum! After a long off-season Wests Tigers are back in action in the first trial of the 2025 NRL season. The Wests Tigers will meet the Canterbury Bulldogs at Netstrata Stadium (Kogarah Oval) for the trial match at 5pm this Sunday. Ahead of that match, the Wests Tigers Podcast team take a look at the side selected by Benji Marshall, and what our expectations are of the team. Mix of youth and experience Benji has named familiar faces including Lachlan Galvin and David Klemmer for the match, while new recruit Jeral Skelton will also feature on the wing. On this edition of the pod, Joel Helmes, Nick Hayes and Garry Watson put under the microscope the naming of those three likely first round NRL players. Is there anything more to read into their selections? While a whole group of rising stars will also represent the Wests Tigers, including Heath Mason, Latu Fainu, and Tallyn Da Silva. All eyes will also be on round one hopefuls, including Tim Johannssen, Tony Sukkar, Sione Fainu, and Justin Matamua. Sione Fainu was named as an edge forward, does that mean he's a chance of grabbing that seemingly vacant second row spot in the NRL team? A few names missing Also up for discussion is the whereabouts of a few guys that we thought might feature in this first trial, including Adam Doueihi, Starford To'a and Charlie Staines. Does their exclusion mean they're being considered for the NRL team? Brent Naden may have also featured in this game, however he, along with Royce Hunt and Reuben Porter, are on 2025 All Stars duties. While this edition of the podcast wraps up with a quick game of Buy, Sell or Hold with some serious questions around fan expectations and recently departed Wests Tigers players, and a not so serious question about a missing podcast host! The issue we've all been fighting for under the 'Wests Tigers Unite' banner is a review into what we all believe is the archaic and undemocratic debenture group utilized by Wests Tigers majority owners, Holman Barnes Group (HBG). After launching the joint public campaign, including commencing a petition calling for the review, the Sydney Morning Herald confirmed a probe into the HBG's governance had been launched by Liquor & Gaming NSW. This is a huge result and means that hopefully, Wests Tigers can benefit from the implementation of review recommendations, including the appointment of highly skilled independent board members. Working together under the Wests Tigers Unite banner are groups and individuals including: Rob Bechara (Wests Tigers Life Podcast) Tiger Town Podcast The Ambush support group Wests Tigers Forum Save Leichhardt Oval group And, us here at the Wests Tigers Podcast & Forum. Today we are taking the first step into launching action to change the governance of the majority shareholder of the Wests Tigers, the Holman Barnes Group (HBG). This action commenced after the HBG board (controlled by Magpies die-hards Julie Romero and Dennis Burgess) dragged its feet over introducing and adopting the full recommendations from the external review into the governance of the Wests Tigers. We fought so hard for that review in 2023 and it only came about because you supported our petition. This time, we intend to make our action much bigger and louder than the Wests Tigers Podcast and we will be calling on all Wests Tigers social and media outlets to support this action, potentially under the banner of 'Wests Tigers Unite'. Make sure you catch this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast to get a better idea of what is happening at the HBG. We also discuss the importance of making our campaign bigger and bolder than our 2023 action. We intend to launch the petition in the coming days, it will be available on the home page of the Wests Tigers Podcast website and will also be shared on our Facebook group and the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum. It's been a bit of a roller-coaster ride for fans of the Wests Tigers in recent weeks and this latest edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast represents that. As the heat of Summer starts to hit, the Wests Tigers continue to be in the headlines, and this time around it's all about the contracts of some of the club's most valuable players. How these details came to be in the media remains a whole other thing! Joel is joined by Steve, Nick, and Garry to look at a rumour that broke last night - Lachlan Galvin having apparently re-signed a new deal with the club (still yet to be anything other than a rumour). But then there is a look at the revelation Jarome Luai could start to negotiate with other clubs in just 11 months! The four-time Premiership winner is coming to the Tigers on a five-year deal, but with player options for the final three years of that contract, and that news has hit a lot of us for six! Should the club have disclosed these terms when he signed? Does it make him any less committed to the cause? And how will the media target this when/if things get tough next year and beyond? We discuss all that. There are similar terms and conditions built into Jahream Bula's contract too (also leaked to the media by unknown sources last week), we put this situation under the microscope too. On a brighter note, we talk about the signing of the club's biggest-ever sponsorship with a new major sponsor, Pepper Money. We take a close look at the encouraging comments made by our new recruit Terrell May on the James Graham podcast, have another quick look at back row options for 2025 and this brings up some Brandon Smith discussion too. The Wests Tigers Podcast is back with the latest off-season edition of the pod. And, with very little Wests Tigers news to discuss in recent times, we decided to make our own - launching the 2024-25 Wests Tigers Fan Survey. This edition is all about that survey, and because we have so much data to share, we've had to split the results into two podcast editions. There will be another edition of the podcast next week where we wrap up the survey results. Some of the questions and results that we look at on this show include: Are you planning on being a Wests Tigers Member in 2025? The Wests Tigers are heading in the right direction? CEO Shane Richardson is a doing a good job at our club? Holman Barnes Group should sell their stake in Wests Tigers? Have you considered NOT being a Wests Tigers fan in recent years? John Bateman should be paid out/released by Wests Tigers ASAP? We really appreciate all the survey responses that you guys provided to us and it's a very interesting exercise looking at your opinions around our club.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Wests Tigers managed to make a meal of 'Spoonbowl' 2024, but we think most of our fellow fans weren't overly surprised. With a chance to discard the Wooden Spoon, Wests Tigers put in one of their worst performances of the year to go down 60-26 against the Eels. But does it matter if you finish 16th or 17th? Wests Tigers 2025 recruit Jack Bird (though still not confirmed as a signing by the club at the time of writing) has said missing the finals is a failure and worrying about positions from there is pointless. We start this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast with a debate about Jack's position on table positions for non-semi-final teams, and look at whether it really matters if we have the spoon three-peat. Also on the agenda, how do we fix our defense in 2025? After conceding a massive 750 points this year, is John Morris the man to turn this around? Speaking of recruits, we also discuss the probable recruitment of Warrior's winger, Marcelo Montoya, and look at who else might be heading our way for a new-look side next year. There's a whole stack of 'One Word' submissions from the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum, including submissions looking to sum up the 2024 season with just a single word. We're slowly packing up and moving on from season 2024 with an increasing view towards a hopefully much more enjoyable 2025!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Finally it is time for Spoonbowl and the guys take a look at the upcoming game against the Eels with the loser taking home the dreaded wooden spoon for season 2024. How good is it!? A post-victory edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast! The Wests Tigers registered their fifth win of the 2024 season on Saturday night at Campbelltown with a two-point triumph over the Rabbitohs. Aside from beating Souths, a great thing at any time, the win lifts the team one win ahead of the totals recorded in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. It also keeps some hope alive that we might be able to hand that dreaded Wooden Spoon to another arch-rival, Parramatta. In this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes is joined by Nick Hayes and Garry Watson to review the game, particularly the performances of some of the individual Wests Tigers players. This includes a look at the quite raw, but still quite promising fullback, Heath Mason. A stack of one-word submissions from the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum also features, and these range from 'Confused' to 'Relief' and everything in between! We take a look at two things that might affect the 2025 Wests Tigers team, firstly, the importance of beating Souths and thus ending a losing streak that we didn't want to take into the new season. Secondly, our new recruit Jerome Luai has a big challenge ahead at Penrith over the next six weeks, how will what happens to the Panthers in the finals affect our side when he lands at Concord in November? It's so good to be talking about a Wests Tigers win and we hope that means you really enjoy this much lighter and brighter edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

There is a preview of the upcoming game against South at Campbelltown on Saturday as the boys give their thoughts on what the Tigers need to do to get their 5th victory for the season. The Wests Tigers have continued their latest run of losses to seven with another disappointing showing, this time against the Knights. Playing in front of the Newcastle home crowd, the Tigers again conceded more than 28 points (that is now seven straight weeks), going down 34-18. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes is joined by Eddie Otto for a look at the performance. There's also a big array of 'One Word' submissions courtesy of the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum. And, although we hate to be having the conversation, Joel and Eddie address the rising concerns around the coaching of Benji Marshall. Can the rookie coach turn this around? Or is it inevitable that a more experienced coach has to come in if we have any chance of getting back to at least respectability?    It's a tough chat around the future of a club legend, don't forget you can add your opinion on the Forum at any time. We know it's a tough time to be a Wests Tigers fan, we're all feeling it too. Hopefully, things improve soon for all of our sakes!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
