In this episode of Analyst Talk, Abigail shares her unique journey from journalism and marketing into law enforcement analysis. She discusses how storytelling became one of her greatest analytical strengths, why qualitative data can be just as powerful as statistics, and what it was like building an analysis program from the ground up in an agency that had never had an analyst before. Abigail also discusses her work supporting child exploitation and human trafficking investigations, the growing threat of online extremist groups targeting children, peer support for first responders, and the importance of networking across the profession. Along the way, she offers practical advice on writing, communication, training, and finding opportunities to demonstrate value within an agency. The episode also features another entertaining installment of "Shit You Hear in the Office," including stories involving ceiling crawl spaces, office tomato farms, and analysts watching movies on their second monitor. In this final episode of the miniseries, Tristan and Rashid step back to reflect on what seven episodes of storytelling from Cape Town have revealed. They revisit the arc of the series, from grounding ourselves in our bodies with Bongeka and Aphiwe, to the critical hope of Ashley and Helene, the courage of Ncedisa, the radical imagination of Leila, and the belonging found at Charlie and Barry's dinner table. They explore the power and danger of stories, drawing on Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's “the danger of a single story” and James Cone's call for a global analysis of liberation. They ask what it means to tell stories from the Global South without claiming to speak for it, and challenge the ways resources and power are still gate-kept by those claiming to want change. The episode opens and closes with collectively written poems on the role of stories in making a new world.THEMESReflection. The danger of a single story. Global South and Global North. What if the most radical thing you could do is invite someone to sit at a table with no queue, no power dynamic, and a really good meal? In this episode, Tristan and Rashid introduce two unlikely friends: Charlton Alexander, a tour guide and facilitator who invites people to connect with the city and its stories, and Barry Lewis, an architect from the UK who has spent decades building sandbag homes alongside communities in Cape Town's townships.Through a clip from the original Liminal Space episode, Charlie and Barry speak about a community dinner in Muizenberg where there is no queue, where people keep coming back not for the food but for the contact time, and where the questions being asked go far beyond “how do we feed hungry people?” Barry challenges us to throw out the lazy questions that aren't generating anything new, and Charlie reframes homelessness by pointing out that people living on the streets do have a home, they just don't have a house. Tristan and Rashid then reflect on what it means to create spaces of belonging and how that might change a neighborhood, a city, and eventually a world.THEMESCommunity dinners. In this episode, Tristan and Rashid take us to Khayelitsha, one of South Africa's largest townships, about 20 miles southeast of central Cape Town. Built during apartheid-era forced removals, Khayelitsha continues to bear the scars of spatial inequality. But in the heart of its informal settlements, two young founders, Bongeka and Aphiwe (Qhama), have created something remarkable: Thembisa Ratanga, a community space they describe as “a safe space in a not-so-safe place.”Through a clip from the original Liminal Space episode, we hear Bongeka and Aphiwe reflect on the deep connection between nature, spirituality, and the body. Yoga poses that imitate trees and birds. Sunsets you don't plan but can't avoid. The quiet gift of a wetland on the edge of a township. Tristan and Rashid then unpack what it means to “just be” in a world that demands we constantly produce or consume, and ask whether rest itself might be a revolutionary act.THEMESComing home to our bodies. Being vs doing. Nature as teacher. Rest as resistance. Spatial apartheid and its legacy. Yoga in the township. Eliminating economic isolation.LISTEN TO THE FULL EPISODEThis episode features a clip from The Liminal Space Season 2, Episode 11: What happens when we reclaim our stories and find home in our bodies? In this episode, Christopher Cruz returns to Analyst Talk with Jason Elder to discuss AI's real impact on law enforcement analysis, the concept of the analyst as a technologist, and why AI should be viewed as a tool for efficiency rather than replacement. The conversation explores data cleaning automation, report generation, custom large language models, trust and verification, and how agencies are cautiously piloting AI solutions. Chris also shares insights on staffing gaps, vendor-driven AI deployments, and why analysts who learn to leverage AI will free up time for deeper analytical work instead of clerical tasks.

Hello Brave Friends! In this special collaboration episode, Jessica Patay and Susanna Peace Lovell are joined by Tash Dillmon and Brittney Crabtree, two of the hosts of Moms Talk Autism for a heartfelt and reflective conversation about podcasting, parenting, and the power of community.Together, they reflect on how podcasting has transformed their lives as mothers raising children with autism and how building connection—especially during the isolation of the pandemic—became essential. Brittney shares, “Grief is an ocean for me,” capturing the cyclical and layered nature of caregiving. The group discusses how joy and heartache coexist, how community stories offer perspective and hope, and why vulnerability fosters deeper connection. Host Ricky Sacks is joined by Broadcaster Russ Williams, Marlon and Luke as Ben Davies netted his first Spurs goal for over two years but it wasn't enough to earn us the win as Sunderland hit a late equaliser on Sunday afternoon. The Welsh defender was on hand in the first half to give us the lead on what was his first start of the season – his first goal since scoring in the 4-2 defeat at Brighton on 28 December, 2023. However, the Black Cats levelled with 10 minutes remaining through Brian Brobbey as we had to settle for a point in an entertaining encounter at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The draw in our opening home match of 2026 took our unbeaten Premier League run against Sunderland to 15 matches and leaves us 13th in the table. We also discuss the latest developments of Spurs during this summer transfer window, as Tottenham Hotspur have had an £8million ($10.7m) bid for Santos left-back Souza rejected. The Brazilian side have turned down Spurs' offer for the 19-year-old. Santos are hesitant to accept a bid for the teenager whom they have high hopes for and believe his value may increase in the future.
