Hosted on Acast. "Behind the ostensible government sits enthroned an invisible government owing no allegiance and acknowledging no responsibility to the people. To destroy this invisible government, to befoul the unholy alliance between corrupt business and corrupt politics is the first task of the statesmanship of today." - Theodore Roosevelt Don't look at us... good old Teddy Roosevelt said it first in 1913. For clarification, we don't often agree with conspiracy theories here at the Wolf and Bull. Too many of them are difficult, if not impossible, to prove. The quote above, inferring an "invisible" government (which goes by a different name today - rhymes with "steep date") is one that makes us scratch our heads though. Was Teddy appealing to popular opinion at the time? Was he letting normies in on the game? Who knows? We know that conspiracy theories hinge on the idea of "what is most probable." The problem with this is that "probable" is subjective to many people. In 2021, The Conspiracy Chart was published by Abbie Richards. It's a wonderful little upside-down triangle that acts as a guard dog against misinformation, by using news articles & pseudo interest groups to categorize the various "levels" of conspiracy theories. In episode 79 of the Wolf and Bull podcast, the team discusses The Conspiracy Chart and appeals to authority arguments that coincide with it. Additionally, we touch briefly on the recent documents released concerning the John F. Kennedy assassination. Tune in every week for new episodes! Apologies for the late release! I would blame it on the holiday but that would be a lie. Is humanity doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past? This week, Julian traces a timeline from the bright-eyed early days of the internet to the dark message boards where QAnon emerged—and that still foment white supremacist mass shootings. to the dizzying infinite scroll on TikTok. One surefire way to garner some extreme MAGA-cred nowadays is to get COVID-19, lie about it and say you just have pneumonia, and remain unrepentant as an avowed anti-vaxxer. But there's at least one MAGA diehard—an associate of Steve Bannon—who has taken things a step farther. This guy has recently been vlogging (yes, vlogging) from his hospital bed—after being admitted for contracting the coronavirus. Of course, he's talked about how thrilled he is that he never got the COVID vaccine… even though he's been vlogging lately from a COVID ward about how much trouble he's had breathing. Join Fever Dreams hosts Will Sommer and Asawin Suebsaeng, as they offer this latest glimpse into a most lethal American culture war. Elsewhere on the episode, Suebsaeng and Fever Dreams producer Jesse Cannon interview Abbie Richards, a TikTok “power user” who's also a leading expert on how conspiracy theories wildly proliferate on TikTok. And activist Abbie Richards understands those worries, and says it's time to change the conversation of doom and gloom, to one of hope and action.
