JimratTake a walk with me down Fascination Street, as I get to know the Boston Shoegaze band Jimrat. This group of musicians got together in the Boston area after meeting in college, and various music scenes. Jimrat consists of: Sam Dvorin, Josie Arthur, Emma DeLaRosa, Elicia Benavides, and Tim Ro. In this episode, I get them to tell the story of how each of them came to be in the band. Since they each came along in a fascinating way, they tell the story 'popcorn' style. All of them have recently graduated or are still in college. They basically went to different schools. We got musicians from Boston University, Suffolk, Berkley, and Emerson. Throughout the episode, each of them explains how they came to Boston, and why most of them equate the city to living in Albuquerque! From Covid, to the cartoon Tom & Jerry, these young guns talk about everything. Finally, we discuss their new album. It's called 'Instant' and is 'an audio-visual album'. Each of the 11 tracks on the record have a corresponding video component, that all culminate in a 35-minute-long sensory experience like no other. They even let me play one of their favorite tracks from the record! Check out their audio / visual experience on YouTube by searching "Jimrat Instant", or checking out their website: WhoIsJimrat.github.io

Send us a Text Message.Don't catch dysentery on the Oregon Trail. What spelled doom for McDonaldland? Some of the most accomplished musicians nominated for a Golden Raspberry Award.Episode 153 brings all the nostalgia you could possibly want. The show kicks off with a favorite memory of many school-aged kids of the 1980s and 1990s. Oregon Trail was more than just a fun game that taught kids to avoid dysentery and to watch out for broken wagon wheels on the prairie. It was an educational game that helped teach critical thinking and encourage social interaction. We will take a deeper look at this classic game. Years ago fast food restaurants catered toward the younger generation with colorful characters and bright cheery facades of their buildings. No establishment epitomized this as much as McDonald's. In the 1970s they revolutionized the way fast food was sold with their unique, and a bit trippy, McDonaldland. Then slowly it faded away. We go way Back In the Day to look at the events that led to the demise of McDonaldland.Even the greatest of the great can have off days or perceived off days. In the new Top 5 we will look at some of the most beloved and accomplished musical acts ever, who also just happened to have been nominated for a Razzie Award for Worst Song. There is also a new This Week In History and Time Capsule centered around the first official Tom and Jerry cartoon. For more great content become a subscriber on Patreon!Helpful Links from this EpisodeThe Lady of the Dunes.comPurchase My New Book Cape Cod Beyond the Beach! In My Footsteps: A Cape Cod Travel Guide(2nd Edition)Hooked By Kiwi - Etsy.comWear Your Wish.com - Clothing, Accessories, and moreDJ Williams MusicKeeKee's Cape Cod KitchenChristopher Setterlund.comCape Cod Living - Zazzle StoreSubscribe on YouTube!Initial Impressions 2.0 BlogShelter of the Monument Book - Yvonne DeSousa.comThe Oregon Trail GameListen to Episode 152 here Support the Show.

Hanna-Barbera's classic cat-and-mouse cartoon series Tom and Jerry kicked off when their debut short, ‘Puss Gets The Boot', was released by MGM on 10th February, 1940. But, at that time, the stars of the film were known as ‘Jasper and Jinx'. And studio bosses very nearly canned the whole concept - until the audience feedback, and awards nominations, started rolling in… In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly explain why the chase-based slapstick of this hilariously violent double act empowered MGM to rival the might of Disney and Warner Bros; reveal how Tom and Jerry got their names; and explain how the racist depiction of ‘Mammy Two Shoes' evolved from an African-American caricature into an Irish one… Further Reading: • ‘The 50 MGM Films that Transformed Hollywood - Triumphs, Blockbusters, and Fiascos, By Steven Bingen' (Lyons Press, 2022): https://www.google.co.uk/books/edition/The_50_MGM_Films_that_Transformed_Hollyw/bYh0EAAAQBAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=Puss+Gets+the+Boot&pg=PA87&printsec=frontcover • ‘The Untold Truth Of Tom And Jerry' (Looper, 2020): https://www.looper.com/196800/the-untold-truth-of-tom-and-jerry/ • ‘Puss Gets the Boot' (MGM, 1940): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oiHulAQmdqI #40s #Hollywood #Animation #racism Love the show? Okay, so here's the story. A cat and a mouse don't get along and taunt each other for decades. While the mouse usually wins, the cat is sometimes thrown a bone. Along the way, their adventures were handled by animation legends, some of which botched the characters. Here now is the story of how this show came to be. Who put their fingerprints on the characters? What do the various producers of the incarnations have in common? Who are Jasper and Jinx? All these questions and more will be answered in this look at THE TOM & JERRY COMEDY SHOW! Thanks for ‘tooning in. The holidays are times of cocktail parties and social obligations. It's not uncommon to have a tipple or two when you're out with friends to help you warm up from the cold weather. This drink may remind people of a certain cat and mouse couple, but its origins go back even further. This frothy, warm cocktail is a near cousin to the titular holiday drink eggnog and even comes in its own serving container. We're exploring the history and origins of this American classic: the Tom and Jerry. With the upcoming Netflix film Wedding Season coming out this summer, a romantic comedy that highlights the Indian fascination for arranged marriages starring Pallavi Sharda and Suraj Sharma, I thought we should play our interview with Pallavi from last year. This interview was the first one I did live after the pandemic. We sat in our friends apartment on the LES, had a few liquid companions, and had a blast....It's our first live interview almost 2 years!! I sit down with my friend, Pallavi Sharda, in our friends apartment in NYC and chat about it all. Pallavi knows what chasing your dreams is all about. Growing up in Melbourne, Australia, she knew from a very young age she wanted to become a Bollywood actress. We talk about making the decision to move to India to fulfill her dreams of working in Bollywood, her biggest takeaways from her time there and what she learned about herself, what she would tell other young women who want to make their mark on the world's largest film industry, and her relationship to Bollywood now. She discusses why there is still a lack of diversity and representation for South Asian women in the film industry, how being an Indian-Australian forced her to redefine herself time and time again, and the reason coming back home to Melbourne helped reclaim her voice and identity. An honors graduate from the University of Melbourne Law, Arts and Languages schools, Pallavi is an advocate for India-Australia relations and the strengthening of intercultural links between the two countries. She was named on the list of forty most influential Asian-Australians at the inaugural Asian-Australian Leadership Summit. Her film credits include Oscar nominated film Lion (2016), Bollywood films Begum Jaan (2017) and My Name Is Khan, Dus Tola, and Besharam. (2015), and comedy Australian film Save Your Legs! (2012). She has worked in Hindi films like My Name Is Khan, Dus Tola, and Besharam. This year, she starred in Tom Jerry and The One, now streaming on Netflix. She also has two feature films coming out in 2022- Black Site and Wedding Season.
