In the second episode of the Bridging the Age Gap series, Julia is joined by Jackie and Emma, two Indigenous women who share the same heritage but stand in different life stages, weaving together ancestral wisdom and contemporary voice. What unfolds is a deeply grounded conversation on reclaiming identity, resisting colonial definitions of mentorship and leadership, and learning to lead in a way that honours both elders and future generations. Jackie shares what it means to carry her Indigenous identity and ancestral knowledge into powerful political and institutional spaces; she calls this a journey “from the outhouse to the White House.” Emma shares how, over time, elders in her community saw leadership potential in her, much before she saw it in herself. Together, they model an intergenerational exchange that is neither hierarchical nor linear, it's circular and rooted in reciprocity, presence, and a reverence for the natural world. “A Birch tree doesn't say to a Cottonwood, ‘you're bigger than me.' They just exist. They coexist. And they each have their own medicine.” – Jackie Tune in to hear how leading, for them, is less about roles and titles and more about holding space, honouring lineage, and being of service to the land and people. About the Guests: Jackie Qatalina Schaeffer, as the Director of Climate Initiatives, she brings over 20 years of experience in communications and business management. She facilitates stakeholder engagement and supports various projects focused on environmental health, climate, and sanitation across Alaska. Jackie served as the Lead Facilitator for the Holistic Approach to Northern Sustainable Communities project and co-authored several regional energy plans in collaboration with the Alaska Energy Authority and local leaders. Her current work includes addressing water security and sanitation for unserved homes in rural Alaska, climate adaptation, community engagement, and integrating Indigenous perspectives to bridge service gaps. Jackie's commitment to serving Indigenous populations allows her to merge culture and Indigenous knowledge with her professional endeavours, creating a powerful blend of Western and Indigenous perspectives. Emma Johnson, a Cowlitz Tribal member, received her BA in Cultural Anthropology from Washington State University Vancouver and her MS in Sociocultural Anthropology at Portland State University (PSU). Emma is currently the Indigenous Traditional Ecological and Cultural Knowledge (ITECK) Coordinator in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Dean's Office at PSU. In this role, she focuses on community engagement, partnership development, and cultivating a sense of belonging for students. Emma is extremely passionate about place-based education and connecting people to the landscape by introducing them to plant and animal relatives. She feels at home in the world of tribal food sovereignty and strives to support the reclamation and restoration of traditional foodways in Indian Country.

How do good people create systems of oppression?  What is Health? What is unHealth? And how do we move from the latter to the former in ways that mean good people create systems of co-creation, inter-being and connection?  This week, we explore all these questions with Sophy Banks, Founder and Lead Facilitator of Healthy Human Culture. This week's guest is a remarkable woman who was one of the shining lights amongst those who came to teach us at Schumacher college, before the pandemicSophy Banks has been an engineer, a footballer, and a therapist. She was deeply involved in the Transition movement from its inception, finding ways to balance inner and outer work, to keep heart-focused in a world where a lot of outward-focused action can so easily lead to burnout. I met Sophy as she was moving away from that role, moving into Inner Transition as a new movement and also working deeply with Grief Tending workshops inspired by her time with Sobonfu and Patrice Malidoma Some from Burkino Faso. That was back in 2017 and clearly the world has moved on since then and Sophy has moved with it. She is now Founder and Lead Facilitator of the Healthy Human Culture movement where she brings together the deep learning and experience of the past decades in a system of online learning journeys and other workshops which offers a vision for a world in which societies, communities, workplaces, families and individuals can thrive. It's a journey of healing and understanding and exploration and it feels absolutely core to where we are going, could go, need to go as people and as a culture. It is always an honour, a delight, and a deeply thought-provoking, moving experience to talk with and learn from Sophy. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did. Healthy Human Culture https://healthyhumanculture.com/Grief Tending  https://grieftending.org/Sophy on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/sophy-banks-uk/

Kyle Anthony Trautmann is the co-founder and Lead Facilitator at High Vibe Healing. His work within the health industry has spanned across a myriad of topics over the last ten years. All of those subjects revolving around regenerative principles with one goal in mind: to maximize vitality through all aspects of energy production. Kyle started his career in 2013 as a nutritionist and slowly built his practice around how regenerative agriculture benefits the mitochondrial matrix. Kyle co-founded High Vibe Healing in 2016 with an emphasis of Nutritional Bioenergetics.   Since 2016, Kyle has added varied dynamics to High Vibe Healing in order to address and alleviate the main causes of CDR (cell danger response), which is the conserved metabolic response that shuts off the production of the "energy molecule" ATP (adenosine triphosphate) from the mitochondria. Kyle's focus over the last four years has been studying the mass influx of chronic disease and how the 7 Types of Traumas have a direct impact on the functioning of our mitochondria and how we utilize energy as a whole for health and well-being. His work as of late has been focused on alleviating these traumas through a process known as Holonomic Energy Harmonization, which focuses on how to consistently produce an ample amount of energy to have a robust and rich human experience.   For more on Kyle: https://www.highvibehealing.info/    For all of our links, visit: https://www.flowcode.com/page/thewayfwrd
